Goes threw staff very consistently, not kept clean to standards the last few weeks baked good have really gone down (taste tin / rust on muffins) the coffee is very bitter and espresso is never done properly or consistantly, staff isn't trained well to no fault if there own. Staying downtown and this was a short walk from our hotel near the art museum. Fresh whole grain bread and other baked treats. The chickpea toast was outstanding. The bagel and lox has sumac onions on it. If I lived in Hamilton, I would go out of my way to have breakfast here on a regular basis. The coffee was good but I'm a bit of a coffee snob so I didn't feel it was great. Certainly though, far above the typical weak excuse for coffee typically found at most restaurants. I think I would go for an espresso or cappuccino rather than a drip brewed coffee the next time. My fault for ordering the drip brewed. read more

If the weather is nice and you like to people watch, you may enjoy their patio, as long as you don't mind sitting very close to the street where vehicles come and go. From the same owners as My Dog Joe in Westdale, Mulberry Street Coffeehouse is a chill place to hang out, study, and socialize. The creative atmosphere and laid-back vibe fit in well with the changing face of James St. N. (an increasing number of galleries and independent shops). It's in an old hotel and the space is beautiful -- high white ceilings with ornate detailing, a large hanging lamp with Hamilton landmarks printed on the lampshade, and local art adorning the walls. The patio on Mulberry St. is a great spot. The drink menu is similar to My Dog Joe -- your usual coffees, espresso drinks, plus some tea lattes and iced drinks. I had the peach iced green tea, which was refreshing and not too sweet. I also tried the strawberry smoothie, which was super-sweet because they use a fruit syrup in it (I wouldn't order that again). They have a small selection of beers including Mill St. organic. They also have a good selection of food - sweet and savory, but I haven't had the chance to try any yet. Had a brief visit here in Hamilton during my last visit. I really loved the vibe here - everything from the look and feel, the staff, the menu of freshly baked/made treats and of course because it was mid afternoon.... the coffee! They have many vegan/gluten free baked goodie options for those feeling that you're deprived due to your dietary restrictions. In fact, during my visit, I paired my home made cold brew coffee with one of their vegan doughnuts. It was denser than a standard doughnut but baked rather than fried with a cinnamon sugar taste that made it hard to savour it for long. They are open during COVID-19. Very nice little cafe in downtown Hamilton, the cold brew and cappuccino were excellent! But the vegan chickpea smash (served warm) was the highlight! I really enjoyed it. Chicken bruschetta was a bit above average. My child enjoyed the sauce. The service was excellent, everyone wears a mask and keep the physical distance. read more

This place is actually so adorable. The atmosphere is great, there's places to charge your laptop, the food options are very standard cafe. The staff is super friendly, they are always super willing to help you. I do wish they would fix the broken seats & add more seating area, there are not enough couches. Also there's a whole section at the back of the restaurant which I'm not entire sure what it's for... it just takes up a lot of space, although it's pretty aesthetically pleasing haha. Came in here tonight for a late night coffee at 10:00pm. The place was busy, we were fortunate to get a booth at the back. They did not have any decaf regular coffee, but had a decaf americano, and boy was it good. Although the cup was super small for being a medium. The place has lots of brickwork and character to it. The turkey panini was great w red pepper sauce, the avocado panini were a bit flavorless. The flat bread was ok, but the main problem is the dishes came cold. I really liked this place! Contrary to many coffee places in Toronto, Mulberry was very quiet on a Saturday around dinnertime. I dropped by here while waiting for a table at a restaurant nearby. The set-up is like many large, indie cafés: counter with baked goods (everything is made on-site no less!) and cash as soon as you walk in, different types of seating with mismatched chairs, a huge patio running along the side of the place, and apparently there's an art gallery at the back AND free wifi, of course! That was a mouthful. (Barista told me about the art gallery, but I didn't have a chance to check it out myself.) Barista was non-pretentious and it felt like a new experience to me, but alas I was in Hamilton, not T.O. ;) (I almost expect ALL baristas to be sorta judgey/apathetic like they hate everyone OR the complete opposite, overly hyper/in-your-face friendly.) I had the medium roast coffee (roast in-house) & a double chocolate cookie, both were pretty outstanding! Cookie was quite moist and I *think* it was also gluten-free. They do have gluten-free options, baked on-site, for all those who have dietary concerns. Would not hesitate to go back the next time I'm in town! read more

I like this place. Cool neighbourhood. It was very comfortable and warming. Good space for business meetings as there is a lot of privacy in the boothes. I liked the authentic decor especially an old green door that is in the middle of the cafe. The floor had a very interesting old mosaic and concrete. It was cracking and gave it a very witty and decadent feel. Services were very clean. Nice light coming through the big windows. Can't speak that much about the food or beverages offered, but the bold black coffee we had was fine. All in all, great experience. read more

I love this place to work. It feels like a real community space and has a patio on the outside. I ordered a flat white and was pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of the taste. They have a lot of vegan/gluten free options for food and they have a good menu for a quick snack throughout your work sesh. The space is pretty chill for getting some work done and you'll often see families with their kids on the weekend. They also decorate the space with local artists' work so you can even buy some art while you sip on your latte! The only downside is that it can be challenging to get an outlet so come fully charged! read more

I can't believe that I haven't reviewed Mulberry yet! This place is actually one of my favourites on James Street. I love the look of Mulberry first of all, really eclectic furniture and decor - ample seating for a tiny place with some seating outside on the patio as well. There is also local art hanging inside that you can buy - a great way to support local artists! I have tried a ton of the tasty treats, including doughnuts, hello dolly/sailor bars, muffins, scones, cookies and much more. They make different flavours of all of these everyday. There are sandwiches and soups for lunch, as well as a variety of tea and coffee related drinks. Beer as well if you feel like grabbing a cold one! I have always had great service, as well as quick service of drinks and food. Their coffee brand is delicious and I like that they have milk alternatives and are accommodating on how I like my coffee made. Nice that they have gluten-free options for pastries as well. They are happy to explain ingredients to you if you have dietary concerns. This is a great place to work of study during the day with their free wifi. I usually suggest Mulberry as my go-to place to meet anyone, whether it's for work or for grabbing a quick coffee and a snack! I'll definitely continue to visit Mulberry (actually considering taking some of our wedding pics here cuz it's just to darn cute and my fiance and I love it!) read more

The rudest customer service I have experienced in awhile. Ordered some food & a latte to go and asked if they could please add a Splenda to it. Without even looking up, she flatly said "no". I said "excuse me?" as I thought I had misheard her. She rudely said "no we can't cuz they're over there" and pointed to the sugar station 10 feet away from the register. I have never had a barista flat out refuse to just add a frickin' Splenda to my latte since I'm taking it to go. Like... really, lady? I can just grab it for whoever is making it, it would take all of 4 seconds to grab & even less time for them to add. Update: got the latte & asked where the Splenda was. With a particularly snippy attitude, she says "we don't have Splenda, we have Stevia and ALL OF OUR SWEETENERS ARE RIGHT OVER THERE". I said, well, when I asked for Splenda, I wish you would have told me you don't carry Splenda. To that she responded, "Well I think Stevia and Splenda are interchangeable". Welp, they are not. But it's cool cuz I won't ever be back. Also, the quiche I got was garbage and a complete waste of money. Buyers beware. read more

I like the fact that they serve alcohol as well as coffee and desserts. It's convenient if you want to visit the café after seven. It was open till 11 PM. They have various craft beers which I thought were quite good. We sat on the patio because it was a nice night everything was fine except for the seating, chairs were exceptionally uncomfortable. I LOVE places like these: airy, friendly staff, great food and great atmosphere. This cafe stands right on James Street and in the middle of Hamilton's artistic community. They have a great patio which is very popular on sunny days. But you can sit inside where you can people watch or admire the artwork displayed on the walls.
