My family loves out of state so though they can provide guidance I'm always stumped as to where to go for certain items. Now I have found it and better yet they give great advice! My war with squirrels brought me here. I needed chicken wire to deter those pests from eating my freshly planted tulips bulbs. I called and they had 3 varieties to choose from. When I showed up, it felt like I was stepping back in time and I loved every moment. I was greeting and given guidance to what I needed. The gentleman even considered price when making a suggestion to me. Not trying to up sell or give me more than what I needed to get the job done! I'm hoping today's war against the squirrels efforts did the trick but if they didn't, I know where I can go to get some new supplies!

In the back of the store they still have a scale to sell nails by the pound. At the front counter they can make a duplicate key for you and it will probably work the first time, unlike the key machine at the chain hardware store. Furnaces and parts for them are available here. Sinks, faucets, drain parts are all here as well. Only 2 employees, so if you live in the neighborhood, you can get to know them and make this your one stop shop for hardware. You can look around in here, but you should really ask to find what you need because some of the stuff they carry is in the back. I really enjoyed my short time here because it reminded me of the hardware store I grew up visiting with my Dad when I was little.

I think Fusek's True Value is the only other hardware store in the downtown area, so for those who reside near here (especially those who own homes with lawns downtown), there is now another option. It is located across the parking lot from the new Bodhi Cocktail Bar & Thai Bistro in the site formerly home to Indy Reads (which moved to Fountain Square.) Before you read any further, know that because I don't live downtown, I didn't engage in any transactions while here, so I hope others will soon add more detailed shopping information than I can. The shop is especially prepared for home owners in the area. Lots of items for outdoor work as well a the standard aisles of small items do it yourselfers need and can't find elsewhere. Note that when we visited, a "house" dog was lounging near the counter. So, I would advise not bringing your pets with you to shop since I don't know how they might interact. The dog did not move during our entire visit. Seemed well mannered. One of the benefits of shopping here is that they are open 24 hours a day. My wife asked and yes, they do get shoppers throughout the night! I am glad I'm too old for those all night projects now, but realize that when you get started on something, you sometimes just want to get it done and having a place to get the supplies you need is a huge benefit! The one negative that keeps this from an even higher rating is that the parking is very limited and if you wanted to bring a big truck for hauling larger or multiple purchases, you may have some difficulty in the small parking/loading area compared to most hardware stores I have frequented. But, the store did have a lot of needs covered. I think they are supposed to be a paint supply specialty shop as well. But I didn't realize that until I got home and read some info on their website. I have to say, Todd was really nice and went above and beyond. I'm truly grateful for his help. We had to park down the street since brunch was busy and we wanted to get our steps in so we were just going to carry them or I would have had my daughter go get my car but Todd was kind enough to put them on a cart and walk with us. I also want to add the prices were really too good to pass up and my purchase would have been well over $100.00 elsewhere. Glad we stopped in. We purchased several vegetables, like kale, cabbage, Brussel, sprouts, and more. We also purchased some soil and a few other household items we were running low on. Our experience was great from start to finish, and I was very impressed with their selection of gardening vegetables. There were multiple varieties of greens, a dozen plus a Herbs, and pretty much everything you could need to start an expansive vegetable garden. Looking forward to future visits at this neighborhood, hardware store.

I love a family-run, local business and Hedlund's has been family operated since 1929. That's…read morealmost 100 years! They were selling hardware back when Keystone Avenue was still corn fields. Today, the store looks like it has for the last 50 years. Vintage signs still hang out front of the store, always advertising something interesting. Inside, I found the store packed, with shelves filled up to the ceiling. The store is a bit disorganized and cluttered, but they seem to have everything a do-it-yourselfer might need. Prices are reasonable. The clerk asked us if we needed help and later talked a bit about the store's history. Old photos hang on the wall with Victorian photos of the original Hedlunds. We bought chainsaw oil. We've got to trim some trees. Parking is easy and close to the building. Exiting north requires patience as there is a lot of traffic.

Arlington Ave. in Indianapolis, Indiana and never got asked if I needed help. Typical. It was that way when the former owner had the store.Nothing has changed. If you are of the female gender, you will be asked if you need help and get help. I know this because I personally took note of it in the store and who got help and who did not. This store is about 2 miles from me. I now spend the money in gas and drive by it and go 3 miles further to a box store and I get help. I filed a complaint with Ace corporate and was told many things by corporate Customer Care. I was told the regional manager and the district manager would get involved. That never happened. I have received no communication from this particular store.

Then they sold me a fingered oven glove which was just what I needed for my small hand. I have literally been looking for months for this thing. So then I asked them if they also had cotton candy and a pony and that's when I finally struck out. A real true-blue old hardware place like I like them. It's basically the Tardis inside. Looks like a standard Ace - but don't be fooled. Also, everyone is helpful and nice. A huge bonus. This is a bit of a drive for me but so worth it.
