Decided to make a stop after brunch across the street. My old friend Fred wasn't there so was sad. I ended up buying these two beauties. I have to say, Todd was really nice and went above and beyond. I'm truly grateful for his help. We had to park down the street since brunch was busy and we wanted to get our steps in so we were just going to carry them or I would have had my daughter go get my car but Todd was kind enough to put them on a cart and walk with us. I also want to add the prices were really too good to pass up and my purchase would have been well over $100.00 elsewhere. Glad we stopped in. We had such a lovely visit here last week, picking up some items for spring garden. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. We purchased several vegetables, like kale, cabbage, Brussel, sprouts, and more. We also purchased some soil and a few other household items we were running low on. Our experience was great from start to finish, and I was very impressed with their selection of gardening vegetables. There were multiple varieties of greens, a dozen plus a Herbs, and pretty much everything you could need to start an expansive vegetable garden. I had a hiccup in an attempt to use my rewards points during a purchase and the cashier asked the manager for help (I think his name was Mark?). He told me he had never seen or heard of anything being online as I was offering to show him the info on my phone. I was confused about this reaction because it was this store that prompted me to sign up for the awards program online in the first place. He seemed agitated and cut me off mid-sentence and walked away from the register. He also said he would 'check with someone.' The cashier and I were both confused by this. She asked him to confirm whether or not he was talking to someone else about it while he was standing 10 feet away noticeably not busy. He scoffed and replied 'I'm not doing that today' while rolling his eyes. The cashier looked uncomfortable and apologized to me. The manager didn't care if I made a purchase or not. I'm not sure if he was in a bad mood before I came in, but he was unnecessarily rude and unprofessional in a situation that could have easily been treated with more grace. The other Sullivan locations nearby have been amazing with their customer service. I recommend shopping with any one of them instead. read more

This is a nice family run hardware store. The staff there is very friendly and helpful. Every employe that I passed asked me if I needed help and guided me to what I was looking for. The store is similar to like an Ace Hardware. So it obviously do not have no where near the inventory of one of the bib boys like Lowes or Home Depot. The store is neat and well organized. They make keys, have a garden center, tools and mix paint. I only had to get a few things and I was in and out. They have a relatively small private parking lot. There is no wonder why this place has been around for since the 1950s. I highly recommend checking this place out for your basic hardware or gardening needs. read more

I came here for the Ladies Night event that they had with a group of friends. We were not expecting it to be as busy as it was! The parking lot was full and there was even an employee directing traffic. The store itself is huge! Even though there were a lot of people, I still felt like there was a good amount of space for everyone. Ladies Night is a once a year event. They had free beer, wine, seltzer, and apps! They also handed out a 20% off coupon for everyone. There was a raffle that you could enter as well. I was so impressed by the turnout of the event. It was super fun and I enjoyed walking around the store looking at plants and flowers. My friends and I each ended up getting a plant! read more

As the flagship store they have more of a hometown feel then the superstore on Keystone (even though I like that one too). The store on Pennsylvania is located smack dab in the middle of the South Broadripple neighborhood and every time I go in there, even if it's for a five dollar item, one of the associates walks me to where it is on the shelf! It is a great place to go when you have lots of questions about small repair projects and fixer upper details. The employees will answer all your questions and make great recommendations for the things you might not have thought of. Highly appreciate all the help. Went to get something for our shower (which they had!). Was blown away by their gardening selection! I definitely would recommend them for gardening supplies, grilling products (we are eyeing one of the grills they sell), and hardware/tools. The only thing to be aware of is that there can be a significant amount of congestion on that part of Keystone. So be prepared to fight traffic. read more

The Sullivan at 49th and Pennsylvania has all kinds of hardware--paint, nails, glue, pots--plus young, friendly kids ready to help out with your questions. Outside, a nursery center with plenty of plants, lawn furniture, and more is available for beautifying your garden. The great thing about this Sullivan is that it's located inside a neighborhood. I guess they're trying to capture that neighborly essence with the popcorn maker at the back of the store--a small, dirty-lookin' popper that promises "free popcorn on Wednesdays and weekends." I have hesitated to write this review however decided that it is important to make known. I have been a 30+ year customer of Sullivan's and have always been pleased with the service and selection. Unfortunately my opinion totally changed due to the lack of action on the part of management resulting from the unbelievable abuse I was subjected to by an employee. Without going into detail, the Manager who heard and saw the entire episode apologized profusely and said the employee had "major" issues". I received a follow-up phone call from a member of the Sullivan Family apologizing again, also stating that the employee had issues. When I asked if the employee would be fired, I was told that this person had specific talents which were hard to replace. To hear that was most disappointing since the employee's action were so egregious. I went back to the store a few days later and was startled to see the employee still employed. I briefly spoke with the Manager who said the decision to keep this person was made by senior management. At that point I felt it was important to voice my concern to Pat Sullivan in an email where I stated that I was astounded that the employee was not released. Mr. Sullivan has never responded. So my takeaway is that an employee at Sullivan's can act anyway they choose if they have specific talents and additionally that Mr. Sullivan does not think it is important to respond to the customer even if the answer may not be what they want to hear. I love this place! It's close to my house and the staff is so kind! It's a smaller hardware store but as of now, they have had everything we have needed for our home improvements :) I also love that they randomly sell Poo-poporri and tons of awesome dog products! We recently got paint for our TV stand and it was well priced, high quality, and I got help from the staff on the finish - and it looks AMAZING! Great choice :) read more

I'm a sucker for a good, local, hardware store. Better yet, a hardware store that's only a matter of blocks up the street from my home. Sullivan's meets both criteria! In addition to location, and the fact that this is a family owned business, I love their staff's friendliness. Every time I walk in I'm immediately greeted with a smile and a "can we help you find something today?". I'm also a big fan of their "dog's are welcome" policy. That's right, even your four-legged friends can go shopping with you for flowers, light bulbs, or anything else you may need! Ditto others in regards to prices. You'll probably spend an extra $.05 cents to the dollar compared to a "big box" like Lowes and The Home Depot. For me, since I'm not buying a toilet, truck full of wood, or any other big ticket items, I'm OK spending an extra $.25 cents for batteries in order to support a local business. Even with my flattering review, I regretfully can only rate Sullivan's with 4-stars because of the parking situation. Their lot is small, and can be a pain to navigate, especially in the Spring/Summer as some spots are covered with racks of flowers and bags of mulch. Fortunately there's street parking, but that too can be a challenge when Patachou (across the way) is packed. read more

This is my favorite Hardware store in Indy! Exact opposite of the typical "big box" big "hardware" stores. It's the best of an "old school" hardware store, but much more neat and clean than one finds in most of those older stores. Staff is always very helpful, they have pretty much anything you'd possibly be looking for. It's also an easy one hour walk from my condo at 40th & Meridian. Skip the big box stores! I'd give them 5 stars if they weren't a chain, but I think they originated here in Indiana, so that's okay. This Sullivans is literally 2 blocks from my house, and have been a lifesaver countless times when I've started a project only to find I'm missing something. The only time I've been disappointed by their selection was when I went the other day to get Eco-friendly de-icer. They only had one bag left. Can't really blame them for everyone else buying the same thing I was. I've found their selection of flowers, Christmas trees, etc very nice. And now they carry Porter paint! read more

We absolutely love our local Sullivan's hardware store! The garden center is small, but inviting and well stocked. It's a great place to browse among the different plants. In addition, the plant varieties are constantly being restocked and changing with the seasons. The employees are always friendly and helpful. We moved to the area last year and Sullivan's has helped make our yard beautiful, we shop there for our household needs as much as possible. read more

I go to this hardware store for a few reasons: it's close to my rental so I can pick up limited supplies here instead of driving much further to Lowe's; it harrows back to the days of neighborhood hardware stores; and I like the smell in there (also adds to reason #2). Their stock is limited but covers most basics. But I'm reminded why I hate this place every time I enter and am NOT greeted by the high schoolers who apparently hold every position at this store. It's been that way as long as I can remember. The cashiers are the worst. Sour, unfriendly, clueless high school girls. Two high school boys who work there were standing near the front register when I walked in this time; one literally had his hand in his pants, inside his visible boxers since his pants were sagging, just seemingly bored and not into his job today (hint for you, dude: when facing the front door next to a line of customers, don't play with your dingle). His buddy was wolfing popcorn, talking about how much his mom sucked, and was apparently avoiding some lady out looking at Xmas trees. The kid making keys was friendly-ish, but not trained well in customer service. The lady in front of me who was paying was attempting to make small talk with the cashier who made a grunt that was supposed to sound like a patronizing laugh but was accompanied by no smile or eye contact. She also acted put out when the lady asked for her receipt by telling her she wouldn't have really needed it. Ugh. I would overlook their prices because I'm fine paying more to support "local" businesses (they're a franchised chain, so someone local had a stake in its success). But that's the problem. They don't act local here. The Sullivan's on Keystone is like a different world from this place. Must be better pedigree high schoolers up there. Whatever the reason, it pains me to go to this place. But convenience and nostalgia will keep me reluctantly coming back. read more

Although this location is less than 20 years old, it truly embodies what 49th and Pennsylvania used to be: an old-fashioned community experience. This hardware store, on the surface, is very typical. They have all of the usual things in all of the usual places. The selection is better at Lowe's and Home Depot. However, the service is not. When you walk into Sullivan's, you're warmly greeted. The staff is more than happy to help you to your car if you've purchased a heavy load, and the neighborhood kids still work the cash register. It's nice to walk into a family owned business and be treated respectfully by well-raised teenagers (who actually have a work ethic). Trips to Sullivan's are quick, the prices are fair, and if I can help it, I won't go anywhere else to purchase my hardware. read more

Their flowers are gorgeous, but along with many of the items in this shop, pretty pricey. Local Hardware/Garden Store. It's a conundrum; you can venture just blocks down the street to get what you need, but you'll be paying small-shop prices. Listen people, Sullivan's is a great hardware store, the kind of place that is disappearing by the season in America. Yeah, their selection isn't the best, yeah their prices are a bit higher, yeah they don't have a staff member to come to you for every wincing need, but hey: it's a hardware store people! If you have a problem - they WILL help you fix it. Go in knowing what you need or go in knowing the right questions and Sullivan's staff will get rolling quick. I like this shop, it's that "oh crap! that was my last weed-whacker spool and it just got wrapped up in the wire fence, I need more!" type of hardware shop. And they have Green Egg and Weber grills! The staff couldn't be more helpful or more friendly. My family has also had some issues with the larger chain stores in town; namely at a different store we've bought stuff that had been returned with pieces missing. That hasn't happened to us with Sullivan's. I'm curious about the leadership ethic and how the employees are consistently engaged, pleasant and knowledgeable. What they may not have in stock they will track down for you. Prices are competitive. read more
