White's offers extraordinary customer service. We were greeted when we entered and asked if we needed help finding anything. Several other clerks also asked if we needed assistance. Russell was very helpful. I was looking at gardening boots, but they didn't have my size. Russell called their other store and was able to offer some options. He was engaging and friendly. The store offers an array of grills, power tools, paints and general hardware supplies. The shelves are remarkably well organized and neat. Many shelves were empty as I assume they are preparing for spring inventory. Many items were on clearance including Yetis so there are some great deals. In the entry alcove is a fascinating history of the hardware store's evolution. The history dates back to at least 1889 when the store was located at 110 West Main Street in Carmel. The store has been owned by four families start with O. W. Nutt prior to 1889. Steve White bought the store in 1984 and built the current location on Rangeline Road in 1989. I love that someone took the time to capture the history. There's plenty of parking in their private lot. You can only enter or exit going north in Rangeline, but the roundabouts make going in the right direction easy. read more

We went there to look at a higher in Yoder pellet grill, which they had three. the lady there was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I would highly recommend this place. I was in the area on business yesterday and popped into this location to purchase some ice melt for today's snow. I'd visited a few other places in search of this coveted item to no avail. I was greeted warmly and promptly and when I asked about the sidewalk salt (or ice melt) I was immediately guided to two locations within the store where I could find it. Conveniently located on Range Line Road, I've driven past this location a zillion times before finally making the stop this weekend on a hunt for hooks to hang a rug as artwork. It's a hardware store. Not one of the places where I frequent, far less feel at home. That said, I'm pretty happy when I'm doing a project and need something to finish (or start) it. The staff is helpful and seem to know their product lines well, and I can rely on their advice if I need it. It falls a bit short of a 5 star review for one reason---it's cramped, in my opinion. The staff treat people of color marginally. My experience 30 minutes ago was condescending after the staff person waited on three customers before me who arrived into the store after I arrived. When I asked why I had to request service while others were treated with courtesy, the staff member replied, "because I was waiting on other people." This is my go-to place for anything I need around the house - paint, flowers, random stuff the hubs sends me to get, etc. They have everything (including an awesome selection of bbq sauces & rubs) and are SO helpful. Nice store! Was returning something and their service was spectacular! The customer service guy, was super nice and patient. Everything seems to be nice and organized for the most part. Parking is convenient as well. I feel as I shop here for the little things, such as soap or hangers. This store has a lot, from paint, air conditioners, grills, and even snowboards! Wow. I guess I should have looked at the reviews before I went there, but my son needed a key made and I figured keys are pretty standard, so we went. We got 2 typical wacky keys cut and I looked at the envelope she put them in and it said $3.98. Which sounds about right for 2 keys. At checkout the girl rang in it at 3.98x2 so the total was over $8. I told her there was no way that two keys could be $8, but she said that was right. I've never on my life seen a key priced above $2. Usually about $1.50. I think they got it wrong, but what can I do about it now? I have half a mind to bring both keys back and get my money back even though they will be garbage and go get them cut at Lowe's. Needless to say, I will NEVER be back. read more

Good location with lots of parking. Very little Christmas stuff. I remember when Ace was the place to go for all things Christmas. Do be careful and watch the prices for your items. I was over charged 5$ for one item and 1$ for another. Barcode on the peg matched the item with a lower priced sticker. I'm guessing they haven't gotten to some price increases on the sales floor that have been put in the computer. I was able to take a picture with my phone and show them and get my $ back. This happens in all retail not just this instance. Store was clean and more than enough employees on the sales floor. read more

I'm always willing to pay a little more for someone who can give me good advice. I've often asked a question at a big box store only to be given an answer that I know isn't right. That's never been the case here. If you ask the person helping you a question that makes them scratch their head, they'll go find someone else who can answer the question instead of just making up something like I've had happen at other places. There's nothing wrong with saying "I don't know, but let me ask someone who can tell us". The garden center is fantastic and they'll fill my propane tank instead of making me trade in my tank for one that could have been someone else's problem. read more

Ace is great when you need help with a project. The employees really know what they are talking about and can help you figure out what you need to buy. The store is always clean and laid out well. Sign up for their rewards card and you get points for shopping. They send out coupons and offers to your email. You can earn $5 off your next trip. Ace is close and a great place to run for small things. They have nice veggies and herb plants in the summer and just put their mums out! Yes, this place costs a little more than Lowes and Home Depot. Shocking. But if you are working on a specific project, want to get it done fast, and need some immediate guidance, Ace is the place for you. Yes, I still go to the megastores and buy more stuff from the megastores than from here, but I find myself going to this place more now because: 1) It's closer to my house. 2) My time is valuable. I can get there, park in front of the store, get in, get some help, get the item, pay for it, and get out. I go to the megastores and I have to park in the next county, get in, wave someone down or get in line to get help, be told that what I'm looking for is 5 aisles down, and just spend more time getting out. Although it was their swatch they could not formulate the color. Then on Sun I went back to get another can of a color they made for me and again they could not formulate it even though I bought it at Whites Ace. They told me to go to another store to get it. I drive there. They were out of the base. No I'm sorry no I will try to get it for you just unfortunately I can do it and I don't have it. I went into White's on Saturday afternoon looking for fuses for my stove. Not knowing much about this subject at all, I was hoping to speak with someone who could tell me what I needed to know. The first gentleman to check on me was as good as it gets as far as customer service goes. He told me what he knew, but he knew that the information he provided did not answer my question, so he went to ask someone else. I was anticipating the same kind of customer service when the second gentleman approached. What I experienced was a cocky, condescending person who answered my question, yes - but kept on talking and ended up talking down to me and degrading me. I had the fuses in my hand, ready to walk up to the cash register, and I ended up hanging them back on the peg and walking away. When he began to protest and get huffy about me leaving, I let him know that I was going to buy my hardware somewhere else because I didn't appreciate the way I was being treated.
