I've been going to this hardware store for over 30 years and I will never return. I purchased a replacement lock for my back door. It was in the sealed plastic stuff from hell that there's no easy clean way of opening. So I cut the top off. Discovered a lock washer was broken so I unscrewed the screw to replace it, then something clicked in the mechanism. Replaced the washer only to find the entire thing wasn't working correctly. I'm no locksmith. I went to return it for a refund and was told it wasn't returnable because of the way I cut the packaging open. ? There is no easy way to cut in to those things so what the heck? They said they had signs indicating such a thing but there were signs for everything EVERYWHERE. As a customer I'm supposed to reach each and every sign in your store? The supervisor went to the manager to ask about a refund and she said no. I guess this place is under new ownership or something? You'll never stay open if this is how you're dealing with customers. VERY disappointed and I seriously will never set foot in that store again. read more

If I could honestly give this place 0 stars I would . Everytime I have gotten a key cut here it was wrong . Everytime I tried to get service here somebody came 30 mins later . The management is rude and treats their employees like garbage . They trapped them in there with concrete smoke during construction and make them work with no ac in 90 degree weather . As a customer I'm both concerned and infuriated with this location and I definitely expected better when I seen this location. They don't value your time or your efforts. read more

I like to support local but this ACE makes it difficult. "Ace, the helpful place" just doesn't hold water. Despite plenty of staff, they are relatively young and seem more interested in scrolling on phones, eating snacks or chatting amongst themselves rather than helping customers. The knowledge base just isn't there. If you need to grab a few picture hangers or something simple, sure it works but don't expect actual assistance with product or application. Also, I find the pricing a bit whacky. I ran in the other day to get extra quart size plastic containers for paint mixing, they were just under $3 AND the flimsy tops were an additional $2.79! I held it up and asked the girl, Is this for real? Imagine the flimsy plastic TOP of a yogurt container costing $2.79? No way that's justified. If they hired a few retired contractors (or even experienced DIYers), it would go a long way. I remember more experienced help when I first started going there 10 years ago. read more

On the south wall of the Central Ace Hardware building, local artist Carl Leck has created a giant mural (2012) that ties directly to the hardware store. The wall features a giant screw and screwdriver that are painted with 3D shading to make them look real. Behind them, the background has vertical shades of gray with white silhouettes of other hardware items routinely found inside the store. This is one of Leck's earliest public art murals. Staff is friendly and helpful. There always seems to be plenty of staff in the store to help their customers. We are new to the East Side and renovating our first home and visit this place weekly haha. Only downside- not a huge selection compared to other major stores. read more

Not what it used to be. Didn't even water their spring plant shipment! Garden aisle has few soil amendments of the Espoma Tone or similar organic types, but across the aisle the entire aisle is what seems hundreds of plant and weed killers. Obviously the Store garden Supplier has never grown so much as one tomato.I used to spend a lot of money their in the spring buying seed starting supplies and top name organic garden soil amendments. So sad. I gave a two because you might find hardware like nuts and bolts, but the gardener will need to go elsewhere, like the wonderful Backyard Blessings at 30th and Franklin. read more

This hardware store is such a cool idea! It's in historic Irvington and is in an old theater that's been renovated. The entrance is around the back, but they have everything. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The place is huge. Definitely our go to when needing parts or fixtures when fixing up the house!! read more

There's alot of history in the this Ace Hardware an I can attest to that.. ...this use to be the Arlington theater.....my father use to run this theatre in the 70s......if you look on the West Wall an see a window about 3x3 ft I use to sit there's watch Winnie the Pooh to John Wayne.....beside the first Rambo movie....my mom use to bring my dad dinner....I would bring my hot wheels or GI Joe if I wasn't interested in a movie.....so today it's a Ace hardware.. candy store for me as I bought some plants an the aisles piled high with all your needs.....staff is friendly an helpful.....an at checkout I always like a old candy treat of a maple bun.....so I give Ace two thumbs up for good service read more

Now that I live down here, this store has replaced Hedlund's as my go-to hardware place. In addition to hardware and tools they sell seasonal items like flowers, Christmas lights, decorations, etc. The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff here is awesome. They actually bring you to the items you're looking for and will make sure you get the right thing for the job you're trying to do. When we were building our rain barrel several guys even made suggestions. THEN when we came back to exchange stuff we didn't need there was no hassle. I also had to return a defective product and they were willing to just refund my money. The building used to be a movie theater. It still has the original tile in the bathrooms and signage, the ceiling is kinda funky, and you can see the short curtain on the ceiling where the screen was at the east end of the building. The entrance is around the back/side of the building but the sign is out front where the marquee is. I greatly prefer this store to Lowe's, Home Depot, or Menard's for hardware and tool purchases. read more

Before buying our first home two years ago I never had much reason to frequent hardware stores. Initially I was a little sad we weren't closer to Home Depot or Lowes which I assumed would be better options. I thought bigger was automatically better. I was completely wrong about that. So far Ace has had most everything I've needed short of lumber. They also have great customer service and are always happy to give you tips on your projects (which is something I've rarely experienced at Home Depot and never at Lowes). The projects they've advised me on so far (I came into this house with no home maintenance experience): Plumbing (completely disassembling, unclogging and reassembling a kitchen sink, and disassembling/reassembling a toilet to replace the flapper) Dry walling Fence construction Roof repair Door replacement Floor refinishing Everyone who works here is very approachable. You can go in with no idea what you're doing except what you'd like the end result and they're able to guide you through it. They'll even walk around with you explaining the project while collecting everything you need (and they default to Ace brand instead of trying to sell you the most expensive option). The staff at this store has made my job fixing up our house a lot easier than it would have been if I'd opted for a big box store. read more

Nice store with really helpful employees. Their selection may seem slightly limited because their based out of an old movie theater, but they'll most likely have what you need. I came here looking for nuts and washers to a chair leg and didn't know the sizes, but an employee took ten minutes to help me fit and find the exact sizes for what I needed. That is quality service! They also sells plants and flowers during the warmer months which is great. Lastly I had to return an item which didn't suit my needs and they made it so easy! A+ customer service here, if you need any hardware you should definitely stop in. read more

I bought a house key at Central Ace Hardware 14 months ago and yesterday it broke off in my hand as I tried to open my front door. The key has not been abused in any way, and never in my life have I had a key snap off like that right in my hand. Also, it wasn't even stuck, it broke mid turn as I was turning the bolt. I brought in the key that I paid $5 for last summer and the manager told me that it was my fault, that I broke the key, and that I would have to pay full price for a new one. Needless to say, I am never returning to this location and will stick to Home Depot and Lowe's for my future Hardware needs. I have never had a key purchased from either of those locations break on me. Only the key from Ace. Very poor quality materials and service. read more

The employees, the manager need replaced in all my years of shopping there have I ever been made so pissed off that I left before even reaching the entrance. I will never give this store my money ever again. I did how ever contact corporate and will be filling a complaint with them, But @Lowes took care of my needs perfectly, with great communication, respect,and politeness. I always dreamed that there would be a restaurant where I would be a regular. Who knew that the restaurant would actually be a hardware store, and my order would be randomly sized drill bits and bug killer as opposed to some kind of delicious sandwich? Not a joke, we visited this store three separate times on the day we moved into our house, and it hasn't changed much since. It feels like we've bought everything in the store at this point. We love coming here for several reasons: proximity to IRV, not a big box store, good variety, very decent prices, great rewards program, and above all else....excellent customer service. There's a manager here named Jon who now recognizes us and has been so helpful for our many 80-year old home needs, and we've really felt that the employees have gone above and beyond to help us problem solve solutions.
