I'd get outrageous quotes from other moving companies but this company was very reasonable. They helped me move all my furniture and belongings from my old apartment to the new one. They were very professional at how they handled the moving process. We were updated pretty regularly so there was no miscommunication whatsoever. Terrible experience with this questionable company. I inquired about a Certificate of Insurance prior to scheduling the move, during the schedule and then after. I was given the run around by a few people who said they were no longer able to provide a COI for the move because it is the day of. They offered a generic form which I had to call 4 times to receive. There is a different company name and coverage has all expired. When I called back the supervisor was suddenly "in a meeting". I explained that their business seems to have shady practices and and in order to avoid a lawsuit I would cancel my services. She asked no questions, provided no explanation, just agreed to cancel my move which was scheduled in 1 hour. I would NOT trust this company. read more

Please read the low reviews here and take them seriously. These are some young, hard-working movers, but they will probably ruin a piece of furniture and their company is extremely shady. I also had to call the cops on them. Movers49 moved some heavy furniture for me and all seemed well, but a friend noticed that they dragged a piece of expensive furniture across cement instead of lifting it. Sure enough, the side of this furniture was all scratched. When I pointed it out to the head mover, he had me talk to his "customer care" team, and told me I could "put in a claim" after I paid. I said I wouldn't pay until after the claim was processed. The head mover proceeds to throw a huge fit, yelling, blaming other people (his "Mexican" worker, my friend, saying the furniture is old anyways, accusing me of being unappreciative, etc.). After a minute of me trying to calm him down, I tell him that I'll deal with his manager and want the movers to leave. He refuses to leave my home until I pay, while still being very aggressive. At that point I called the cops. While waiting for the police to arrive, the head mover tries arguing with me a bit more and makes some calls. The "customer care" calls me again, saying there's been some miscommunication and I could have a discount. They ask how much I want. Honestly, the damage to the furniture is probably in the $100-200 range, but I say $50 just to get these guys out. She instantly agreed and they left. After the movers leave I check the furniture and discover that they scratched up my laminate floor moving the stuff into the living room. I called their company to complain and speak to a manager, but all they did is refer me to that same "customer care" team, and that they'll "put in a claim." Overall the mover's performance was sloppy (albeit difficult), and the behavior of the head mover was inexcusable and borderline dangerous. The company is likewise shady and not worth it for the price. Stay far away from these guys. read more

They arrived early on the day we agreed on (super easy communication with their team), and within a few hours their team had everything packed, wrapped up, loaded, and ready to go to my new apartment! The whole process went really smoothly, and they placed everything where we wanted them to. Everyone was very helpful, thorough, polite, and profesional, which really took all the stress out of moving. The last time I moved, I damaged and dropped a bunch of my furniture and it was a nightmare - they really showed me how moving can be easy! Love how fast and efficient this company was when I needed to move from my third floor apartment at San Jose to my new house in Milpitas! Three floors may not seem like a lot but it definitely is when you have to carry multiple big furnitures. I was scared that I was going to drop a couple of items going up and the down the stairs so I was really glad when I discovered movers 49 because they treated all my belongings as if it was fragile. this is probably one of the best moving companies that i have dealt with!! they were on time to help me move yesterday which was a plus since a lot of moving companies tend not to do!! securing a time and place to help me move was easy and simple! they were great at responding to me and making sure everything was correct. i thought i would need to move all my things to the first floor of my apartment so they could me but they were more than happy to help me move my things from the second floor!! they were so efficient with time that i didn't believe all my things were moved already. that took so much stress off of me since i'm such a small girl. i was moving just an hour away from home which wasn't bad but having them made me feel that if i ever needed to move again, i would be stressed free!! the price was fantastic for what they did for me! i thought i needed to put my back in and help but nope, all the workers were super nice and helpful! all my things were moved perfectly and not a scratch on any of my things! My moving experience with Movers 49 was beyond awful. The one star is for the two men that moved me, because they were hard workers. What I was told would be 4-5 hours, took over 10 hours. When my furniture was unwrapped in my new place, I was shocked by the evident damage they caused to my belongings. They had dragged my mattress across the ground outside, ripping and staining one side of it, and had ripped holes right thru the pillow top with stuffing coming out. Yes it's a heavy mattress, but there are tools for moving heavy items, or maybe a third guy would have been helpful! They ripped the top off of my sentimentally important and irreplaceable antique wood buffet and broke that into multiple pieces and said it was because "it's old wood!" Clearly they don't know the meaning of "antique". They had dumped my full drawers upside down into moving boxes. They dented, chipped, took chunks out of, and rendered useless 5 pieces of furniture. Something else maddening was that the one mover who didn't speak English (and with whom I could not communicate whatsoever), took frequent cigarette breaks (which I was paying for) and never even washed his hands before going back to touching all of my belongings! Yuck. So unprofessional and gross. When I asked them to wear booties (that I see other courteous and professional movers wear) or take off their shoes on the brand new carpet at my new place, they said No! That their shoes are clean- even though they are trekking thru the parking lot and dirty ground outside. The worst part of this nightmare experience with this terrible company was dealing with my damages claim. They offered me $70. My new mattress alone (which they destroyed) cost $2700. The antique piece is priceless because it's irreplaceable, and the rest of the damages add up to a few thousand more dollars to replace. They were ridiculous to deal with- kept telling me they would send my claim to "higher management"- yet I would never hear back from them. I had to keep calling and calling, and whoever I was supposed to be dealing with (?) was never in the office when they said they would be. It took months of frustration and being ignored. They don't even have a phone number for their claims department. They said I could not contact anyone directly! They finally told me they were not insured to replace damages they caused!!! My fault for assuming a moving company would be insured!! Movers 49 was so unbelievably unprofessional, and my whole drawn out experience with them was a huge waste of time and cost me thousands of dollars because of their uncompensated negligence. read more

In particular it was two very special employees, Dimitri and Serge, that were scheduled to assist with moving my mother to a new apartment. They were promptly on time for the move, and couldn't have been anymore professional, careful & quick with the job. As my Mom had been in the home for many years it was no easy feat!! They removed all furniture from her existing apartment with not so much of a single scratch & set it all up in her new place just the way she wanted it :) I was so pleased with the experience I made a special request of their services the next day for both a trip to the Salvation Army & Marin Sanitation Center. They were knowledgeable, professional and helped me through a couple of very stressful days. The move crew I requested was not available. The crew that came were fine. The move was delayed by a few hours so 8am start became 2pm start. As a result the move went to midnight. I did not have power upstairs so the move was done with flashlights. I offered a 15% tip and was told to tip more. They worked hard and late but it wasn't my fault they started so late. I paid the extra tip. I felt a better company would have offered me a small discount for the major inconvenience and was also taken aback by the extra tip request. They did do a great job though so 3 stars seems fair. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Movers 49, starting with the first interaction obtaining a quote via Yelp. I realized the confirmation date was wrong a few days before the move, so I sent a message via Yelp, and quickly received a call correcting the date - PHEW! The movers were a tad late, however, they called in advance to let me know they were on their way and dealing with some traffic - which was appreciated. They were efficient, careful, professional, and friendly.
