If I could give NEGATIVE STARS I would. Do not use this company! They scammed us the second they showed, insisting we pay for another mover because of a treadmill. A treadmill with stated dimensions and weight, no surprises, and we needed it moved so we paid for the useless additional mover. EVEN WORSE, they damaged the hell out of our apartment. Offered us $60 (yeah, no) or for their handyman to make repairs. We chose to have the handyman come. Guess what? HE NEVER CAME, OUR CALLS AND E-MAILS LEFT UNANSWERED. House still damaged, no response. They cost us a full day of work on top of the damage. DO NOT SPEND A DIME WITH THIS ABSURD COMPANY!!!!! read more

We recently moved and used Movaholics to help us move. 4 guys showed up and we knew we were going to be ok when one of them looked like a body builder (and we confirmed he was). We were skeptical at first because we were worried our things would get ruined but they wrapped everything with plastic or a blanket. My only regret was not offering them some food after 3 hours to keep them strong and moving. Something I'll remember next time. After 7 hours of moving I can only imagine how hungry they were. The only casualty was a minor surface scratch on our fridge which buffed out and is now gone. This was worth every penny. read more

These guys are great bang for your buck. Jim is a little brusque on the phone and his guys showed up a little late, but consider this: 1) I didn't know when exactly my stuff was going to arrive because the moving company gave me a three hour window. Jim was willing to have his guys on standby for me. 2) Jim threw out his back the day before and still rounded up three men to come over and help me unload my 'relocube'. Also, let's get right down to it. I got three guys who were able to carefully unload and carry in ALL the boxes and furniture in one hour for $90 bucks flat. They were extremely efficient, polite, and took great pains to treat my stuff well. They did not charge me any hidden fees, gas charges, or a prorated amount for the short amount of time they went over an hour. They simply rounded down. My husband and I called them in April '10 (you gotta call soon b/c they fill up quick) to help us move from our apt on the 4th floor to the apartment on the 1st floor. Jim and his guys moved SO quick, we were amazed how fast they moved our stuff. They even brought wardrobe boxes to take our clothes in the closet, which I wasn't prepared for and pleasantly surprised to see. They completed the move in 2 1/2 hours, as opposed to my sister's movers which took 5-6 hours. I love this moving company b/c not only are they punctual and fast, they also know how to properly wrap up your furniture and make sure it's moved safely. Jim and his 4 movers were rock stars. All of the glowing reviews below are pretty much in-sync with our experience. The team arrived on time, took special care with our belongings, and worked quickly and efficiently to get us out of our old place and into our new place. The day we moved, the rain was POURING like crazy... like, they could've used an ark to transport our belongings. The movers worked feverishly to get us into our new place, and they were soooo careful not to track water or dirt into our house. They wrapped and unwrapped everything so that nothing got wet. Jim takes pride in his work, and he definitely has his guys in-check. They respect your belongings and did not charge us a fortune. I moved from Los Feliz to downtown Los Angeles and needed movers. I have never used movers, but I have too much to move on my own so I needed to hire some for this move. I got on Yelp and read a few reviews and decided to go with Jim and Sons movers. I called and he said it would probably take 3 movers and he would meet me sat at 8am. Sat 8am came and he and the movers were all set to go. They emptied my entire one bedroom bungalow in less then an hour and were super careful with everything. They even provided boxes and wrap for the things I didnt know how to pack, like my framed pictures and computer and tv. They followed me downtown and continued to move me into my new place. I have a huge sofa that didnt fit into the elevator and the movers carried it up five huge flights of stairs to my apt, and didnt charge me any extra. The entire move was done in less than 4 hours and nothing was damaged or broken. They did a great job and made it almost too easy to move! I WILL USE THEM AGAIN DEFINITELY! *its been almost a year since i moved but I believe it was Jim and 2 or 3 movers that came with him and the total was $360 and I tipped them $50 for carrying the couch up the stairs. read more

Ahhhhh moving. Everyone hates doing it, but this time around I was fairly excited about it... I couldn't wait to get to my new place. Somehow I still procrastinated on the packing, but at least I called Jim & Son in the nick of time!! I had a window of days in which I could move in, so I called and essentially begged a time slot out of Jim. He had moved me before, a couple years back, and it went really smoothly, so he was (and always will be) my first choice. The day came, and the crew arrived a little ahead of schedule. They quickly emptied the contents of the old place, and as they did that, I started loading up my car with fragile stuff that I'd hadn't packed very carefully. Then, the stupid latch on the trunk of my car, which hasn't worked well for years, somehow stopped working completely!!!!!!!!!! I was frustrated and a little embarrassed, thinking I should have paid someone to figure out what the blast is wrong with the things years ago... but, surprise!! I'd procrastinated on it. And forgotten about it every time I went to a body shop or dealership or even to get an oil change. Anyways, the guys noticed me and my trunk troubles, and Jim set to work on it. And guess what? it's completely fixed!! Yay!!! Now THAT's service! Also kinda cool, they showed up with five guys and charged me for four, and one of the guys actually remembered me from moving me two years before! They showed my things a lot of respect and care, and they worked fast, arrived to the second location on time and were flexible when the job there was a little more demanding than expected. I used these guys last weekend to pack up my moving truck and they absolutely exceeded my expectations. We had our apartment prepped for the move sooner than we expected, and they were able to show up a little before our appointment time. I was a little concerned about the size of the truck relative to my ridiculous amount of crap. Wasn't an issue... I thought I had mad Tetris skills, but these guys put mine to shame. I moved from my 1 bedroom apartment in Palms to my new home in Inglewood on October 27, 2011. I read all the wonderful reviews for Jim & Sons here on Yelp and decided to give him a call. Jim reminds me of the old-school professional. Told him my date, he told me he had a morning move but would give me a call around 9 am to confirm his arrival at my apartment. He did just that...called before 9 am and said he would arrive around 1 pm. Jim and his team of 4 men arrived on time. I packed everything beforehand except hanging clothes and furniture. Jim provided wardrobe boxes and his team moved fast. My furniture was handled with kid gloves. They took the time to wrap my furniture in blankets and then plastic wrap (for moving). NONE, I repeat NONE of my furniture was scratched or damaged! Jim also brings extra boxes if you need them. Jim had to make 2 trips so I was comfortable giving him the keys to my old apartment to pick up the remaining furniture. The gentlemen even packed 3 remaining wardrobe boxes! Jim and his team placed my furniture where I asked and put the boxes where I asked. Jim charged me $120 hour for 4 men, not including himself. My total cost was $570. I recommend Jim & friends to all. You cannot ask for better service. read more

I have never used movers before and didn't know what to expect and was pretty frazzled at one point. Jim came right in with his team and put my mind at ease....they literally took care of everything! So neatly, so efficiently, and SO promptly! I made a move from Orange County to LA and they not only showed up an hour early, but they literally did ALL of the packing and had the car loaded up with my bedroom and living room furniture within a couple of hours. They also managed to unpack and help set up my furniture within an hour!! Added bonus? I was quoted about $200 cheaper than what I actually ended up paying! This is a 5-star review for Jim and also a 5-star review for Yelp. I moved to LA from NYC last week. About a week in advance, I needed to find a mover to take our stuff from a tractor trailer in a warehouse to Pico Rivera to our new place in Hwood. I needed to find someone I felt I could really trust, since I wasn't going to be at the warehouse in person to meet them. I needed to find good advice fast, and turned to Yelp. Delancey Movers were booked weeks in advance, I emailed Real Rock and Roll for a quote, but it seemed weird I couldn't talk to anyone, and then I called Jim. He answered the phone, said he could fit me in on Friday one week from the day I called, and was straight-forward, personable, and put me at ease. He explained the rates. No minimums, no deposit. He gave me his cell number in case I needed anything. I ended up calling him a couple of times after that (see below), and he always answered the phone. Himself. Even if he was driving or in the middle of a job and couldn't talk, he would say so, and promise to call me back, which he always did. On Friday morning, I had to call him apologetically. My stuff had not yet arrived at the warehouse, so I had nothing for him to move until the following week. "No problem, kid," he answered. And rescheduled me for first thing the following Tuesday. It was frustrating and trying for plenty of other reasons to have my stuff delayed, but Jim was nothing but incredibly easy. Tuesday morning came, I called early to make sure everything was OK. He said they were on their way to the warehouse and everything was on time. He called me at 9 to say he was at the warehouse and they were getting started, but he was confused because it looked like I only had 6 linear feet (correct), but that the truckers said the load was over 3000 lbs, which seemed heavy to him. I confirmed that we have LOTS of books, which was what made the load so heavy, but that 6 ft was correct. He named a few other items in my load to confirm that the had the right load. He called a little while later to tell me that one of my crappy Ikea bookcases had been damaged in transit, apparently because of the way it had been packed. (Totally expected -- my friends and I had done the packing, and not in the most professional way.) Then he called to tell me when he was on the road on the way to my house. I REALLY appreciated all the communication -- put my mind at ease. Once Jim and his two guys arrived at our house, they were lightning fast, and fastidiously careful. Didn't put anything down without confirming it was in the right place. Slow and gentle with our nicer things. Friendly. Very efficient. Final cost for three guys and three hours = $315. I gave a $70 tip, and wished I could have given more, considering the fact that I had canceled on him previously at the last minute. Long story short = Moving across country was a nerve-racking, anxiety-inducing experience for me overall. But Jim Robles was the easiest, smoothest, least frustrating, most reassuring part of the whole thing. And I would never have found him without Yelp. read more

Jim and his crew of 4 showed up right on time, 8 AM, and took extreme care moving my 2 BR 1 BA + garage/storage items. They were very well coordinated and didn't waste any time taking breaks. They provided wardrobe boxes, tape, pads, and even double wrapped some of my more precious items - without charging me extra. My move lasted 4 hours, or $480 (they charge a flat rate of $120/hour). Jim and Son Movers are phenomenal!! Not only were they punctual but, they completed our extensive move in under three hours. It included packing up our house (done in under 45 mins.), removing all items from our old storage unit, dropping off some items at our offices, and then unloading and safely stowing the remainder of the items at our new storage facility across town. This job could have possibly taken another service all day (I've heard numerous horror stories), but instead I was able to enjoy rest of the day hassle free. I just used them today to move 2 rooms of furniture from Irvine to Redondo Beach. Jim was STUPENDOUS, AWESOME, AMAZING. You know how we are all conditioned to expect movers to be these huge, mean, guys that are just out to rip you off and ruin your stuff? Well...these guys are amazing. They were fast, packed everything super carefully, and didn't waste time or charge anything extra or hidden. It actually came out hundreds of dollars LESS than i expected. How often does that happen??? It's 90$/hour for 3 guys and $120/hour for 4 guys. I needed the 4 guys cuz my crap is apparently big. The total move which included breakdown and set up of bedroom set, plus driving from irvine to Redondo beach was $380. WHEW HOO! Jim is a no-nonsense guy and i would use him again in a heartbeat for my next big move, small move, or any move. This is why i love YELP so much. I used this service and it has been completely problematic. I had my initial call where I told them the specifications of what needed to be moved and the locations. I added an additional person on to the total number hired, as they requested. When they arrived, I was immediately told that I needed to pay an extra fee because not enough people were booked, even though I had paid to add someone extra before. They wouldn't go through with the move unless I agree to pay the extra fee. I agreed to pay to move things along, despite feeling like I had already been scammed. As they moved into the new location, they scratched, marked, and dented several of the walls. When I told them of this, they made me speak to their manager about it. The manager offered $60 for the damage even though this damage would cost hundreds of dollars out of my deposit to fix, so I said it was unacceptable. The manager then offered to send their handyman out to fix the damage and I accepted the offer. I moved over a month ago and I still have not been able to reach the company to schedule a handyman. They have ignored multiple emails and phone calls and never sent anyone. We're still trying to reach them to get this handled. read more

There are so many glowing reviews for Jim and his team, I probably don't need to add mine. But here goes anyways. I called 4 different movers to get quotes, and Jim was by far the most straightforward and easy to deal with. I had a slightly complicated situation in that we were moving both an apartment and storage unit. He said it was no problem, but he would have to get an extra truck to make sure there was room, and that there would be a $50 charge. I was happy that he was so straight forward about the price. It was easy to schedule, he asked a few questions and said he would be there on the designated Sat at 8am. Day of the move he was right on time. I mean at exactly 8am he pulled up. Really nice guy, and all his crew were so friendly. They treated even our crappy furniture with the greatest care. So fast and speedy getting everything done. At our new condo, we had just polished our wood floors and the paint on the walls was still wet. No problem, they were very careful and considerate. Overall, Jim and the guys were a pleasure to work with. Moving is so stressful and can turn into a disaster, but they made it so easy. Tip these guys well! read more

Okay i have to admit when i first called Jim & Son I figured that Jim had recruited his wife to write the stellar reviews. - They were just too good. I also thought that this would be the ultimate test of using Yelp to find someone for a critical service that i needed FAST (called less than 72 hours prior to the move). Well, now 48 hours post-move I'm happy to report that this was a totally successful experiment and Jim (never met the "son") is an AWESOME guy. Can't recommend strongly enough. Here's why: First, I called him and there was NO BULLSHIT. i was shocked that he was able to say, "Well, i'm super busy but i'll squeeze you in. . . " Really??? Then, Jim showed up 20 minutes EARLY and with two additional guys ready to get down to business without any of the usual foreplay. Jim was also unflappable. A funny, truly a nice guy who simply bent over backwards to be unbelievably helpful. Don't know how to say this, but, just a great "can do" attitude. Showed total respect for my belongings despite my neurotic fear that everything i personally believed to be valuable was about to be destroyed (-nothing was actually broken or destroyed). At the end of the day, Jim and i sat down and he went over the charges and i couldn't have been happier with the result. Price was a DEAL and while Jim & Son Movers are not the guys you'd want to use if moving across the country, -- Jim is the most awesome, good natured and highly recommended guy you could ever use to move across town. The movers were very friendly and put up with my fiancee's endless waffling about furniture placement. I've moved a lot over the years. I've had both good and bad experiences with movers. I've had both the morning & afternoon appointments. I've ALWAYS had bad experiences with afternoon appointments. You end up waiting all day...can't get a hold of the movers...move well into the night because the movers are slow...etc. So, I had the afternoon appointment with Jim & Sons. I was skeptical. BUT, Jim actually called & texted several times throughout the day to give me status updates. When he showed up (30mins early), he and his team quickly and carefully moved everything out of my place in record time (4hrs) for a VERY full 2 bdr apartment. There were no hidden fees, no damages to my belongings or home, and the team was really effecient. I've already recommended Jim & Sons to a few friends. They were great! read more

Jim & Son were the best movers we've had. When I called Jim to schedule my move two weeks ahead of time, he indicated they'd be there at noon that Saturday. He showed up with 4 guys at 11:57. His initial quote was for 7 hours and it only took 5. Total cost for my move from Hancock Park to MDR was $610. My previous move cost $1150 for half the distance. In addition to being prompt, the crew helped us unpack a few things, move furniture around ,etc. The guys on his crew have all been there 3+ years, and at least 2 had been there 7+. Overall, I don't have enough good things to say about my experience with these guys! read more

Got a hold of him through Yelp, actually, and he booked an appointment with me, showed up a few minutes early with his guys, and moved me in about 3 hours door to door - loaded and unloaded. They were extraordinarily careful with my furniture - wrapping and padding everything. They even brought extra boxes, which they did not charge me for, to make sure delicate and hard to pack items were protected. And they stayed around to make sure I like where they had positioned some of the heavier furniture. Great team! I would recommend them to anyone who is stressed about moving. My wife and I were just about to have S******* S******* movers take our stuff from Burbank to Fullerton when we read the fine print on their contract and realized that the hourly charge for when their truck would actually be moving would come to a staggering $200 an hour. Um... No thank you. Enter Jim & Sons. Jim quoted us a rate of $120 an hour with NO HIDDEN SURCHARGES, which got us 4 guys and 2 trucks (one 16' and one 14'). The other guys "said" their rate was only $79 an hour - For two movers - until you read the fine print. Jim and his boys showed up early and worked their asses off for 7 1/2 hours, in which time they moved out all the stuff from our 2-bedroom second floor apartment, our garage, plus a storage unit, and brought it all down to Fullerton. They took extraordinary care to handle the large items like a huge oak desk, a couch, a recliner, tables, chairs, you name it, and they lugged it all up the stairs when we got to our new place. And even though there was a minor accident, Jim handled it with generosity and class. All in all, it was the best $900 we've ever spent (I shudder to think what it would have cost with only the two guys from the other movers), and would highly recommend Jim and Sons for anyone who doesn't have 8 buddies they can bribe with pizza and beer. read more

We moved from Boston to LA and had our stuff shipped in a pod. We needed movers to unload our pod to our new 2nd floor apartment. We called Jim last minute and he was kind enough to squeeze us in. His guys were wonderful!! Polite, worked fast and worked hard! Definitely use these guys!! We used Jim again to move and everything went great. This time we had twice as much stuff as last time. The crew worked briskly and were helpful. Under scrutiny we did find some blemishes to our refrigerator door and some of our furniture (some small scratches on the really heavy dresser and couple of very very shallow dings on the stainless steel ref door), but that's not from a lack of care ... they wrapped everything well, loaded properly and moved things as carefully as possible. I accept it as something that happens when you move heavy objects across town ... and that Stainless steel will practically ding if you look at it wrong. Remember, I found these after scrutinizing, they are not apparent unless you are looking for blemishes. As close to a perfect move as you can get. Jim is an affable man who charged me $120 per hour for his team of 4 expert movers; that's 5 total people. Jim mostly directs traffic, helps pack the truck, and, if necessary, he'll run off to get an additional truck while the other guys keep packing the first one. A very efficient system. The movers are FAST and very careful. Every piece of furniture was wrapped in blankets and then shrink wrapped. He had extra boxes for any loose stuff I brought out to the truck (or for my large, flat panel tv), and the only "extra" he charged me for was $20 for all the plastic wrap he used (other companies told me they would charge $5 PER WRAPPED ITEM!). This is exactly as he told me it would be, so there were no surprises. My wife and I were endlessly impressed. Jim's five star rating is absolutely deserved, and I will be using him again next time I move. read more

On a word of mouth recommendation from our neighbor we chose to use Jim and Son movers. They arrived a little after 8am and the moment the engine was off they got started and didn't stop until four and a half hours later. They worked fast but with a surprising level of care. I cannot understate how meticulous they were. Tarps, blankets, Saran wrap, everything was treated with respect. They were all upbeat despite it being 8 on a Tuesday, and just all-round classy guys.
