Gus's Keystone Diner…read morehas two locations, one in Mount Joy and a second in Akron/Ephrata (on Rt. 272 across from the Dutchway and Goods shopping center). The Mount Joy location is easy to find, has plenty of off street parking, and offers lots of tables, which can accommodate a sizable number of customers at once. The atmosphere is classic diner with booths, stand-alone tables, and counter service, and they can easily set up tables for larger groups. At 9:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning, there was no wait and we were offered a selection of seating options, so we had a desirable table. The wait staff was prompt and attentive. Coffee was hot and plentiful. My order of the standard scrambled eggs, home fried potatoes, and toast was served promptly, delivered ample portions, and was as tasty as one could expect. Nothing fancy, just a satisfying breakfast. My spouse ordered 2 eggs over easy with home fries and toast. Just as good. Also ordered a slice of coconut cream pie for desert, and the serving size was so large, we had to ask for a takeout box to take that with us. Overall, Gus's is a good bet when you want a breakfast at a diner.

Tons of seafood options, surprisingly. I usually get their crab cakes, which are crab-packed. Broasted chicken is one of their specialities. The portions are enormous. The service is fast and efficient. I give this four stars for the nostalgia factor. I'll be back on my next visit for sure.

What I didn't foresee was that the ramp didn't lead directly to the restaurant. We went from the ramp into something like a storage closet. The turn from the ramp to the room was so tight that I basically had to do a three point turn to get her through the door. Then we had to get through a glass door, walk down a hall and THEN through to door to the restaurant. I seriously needed a rest after that trek. If my mom had been using her walker, she would not have made it into the restaurant. Once through the door though, we were cheerily greeted and seated. We had our drinks within a few minutes and a few minutes after that, we were ready to order. My mom ordered the fish sandwich and I got the Miss Calee burger. That was two mistakes in a row. The fish was overdone and a little hard. It was supposed to come with tartar sauce but it didn't. I would have asked for some but my mom didn't tell me until later. I don't think she ate half of her sandwich. My burger was definitely not much better. The patty was dried out and a hard. The dressing almost non existing - I did ask for more which helped a little but couldn't save the sandwich. I'm grew up in Pittsburgh and have lived in Alabama for 25 years. I am no stranger to slaw on my sandwiches. This slaw just didn't cut it - not even close. We both upgraded and had fries instead of chips. The fries saved the meal from being a complete disaster. I think the most telling sign about the food is that we left over half our meal and didn't bring the leftovers home for my dad. He will eat ANYTHING but in this case, it wasn't worth wasting a to-go box. Back to the handicapped accessibility - I took my mom to the restroom. It was barely large enough to get in chair in and there was absolutely no way possible to maneuver it in there. I keep calling her chair a "wheel" chair - it is actually a transport chair. It's much smaller than a traditional wheelchair. A regular wheelchair would have had problems getting around. Two positives, the prices were quite reasonable and I don't think there was a single employee without a smile. I wouldn't mind coming back one morning to try breakfast but I definitely won't be bringing mom.

This one is laid out better for a crowd, and it handled a standing-room-only event surprisingly well. Because I was with a big group, the usual service details didn't really apply, but the bar staff kept things moving. I didn't hear anyone complaining about drink waits beyond what you'd expect with a packed mixer where people are constantly circulating and the bar area is full of conversations. The staff stayed friendly and didn't seem bothered by the volume. What stood out most was how consistently the team was cleaning and clearing. Glasses and empties never piled up. Even in spots that weren't obvious from the bar, staff were coming through regularly and picking things up quickly. With that many people in the space, that level of attention was noticeable. The place stayed clean the whole time. It was loud, but that was the group, not the venue. Parking was easy since it's in a shopping center, and getting in and out was straightforward. I didn't try the food, but it's a chain, so I assume it's consistent with other locations. Overall, I wouldn't dissuade anyone from going, and I'd go back if I were in the area and in the mood for a drink or a casual sports-bar type meal.

Joy definitely was not the same as the one on Linglestown. We tried the Thanksgiving egg roll, which was very good and served with a side of gravy. It should also come with a side of cranberry sauce for that holiday "twang". One of us ordered the Cottage Pie, which was served hot. I ordered the build your own burger, which is a favorite of mine at the other location. I was vastly disappointed by this burger, which did not resemble the juicy mouth watering version I was used to. The atmosphere was fine and service friendly, but I don't see us returning to this location.
