However, the last 3 times that I've come and I've tried to order a crepe, the crepe machine is "broken" or "needs to be cleaned." Really disappointing. Food was delicious, ambiance amazing, the service disappointing. I frequent Moulin in Newport Beach and San Clemente. On my most recent visit to San Clemente I ordered my usual, sat down was enjoying the view, the sun, reflecting on the beauty of our beaches, texting my daughters who love Moulin too and then realized I had been waiting on my food for what seemed like awhile. Not a big deal, but I thought maybe I said "to go" and went to check in with the counter. On my way in the server was headed out the other door with my order and I said "oh great I was just going to check." She proceeded to scold and school me on how busy they are and how everything was made from scratch. Even continuing the scolding as she walked back inside. What was a lovely, perfect day having breakfast at one of my favorite places turned into what was nothing more than a dish of rude, distasteful, arrogant lip from a clearly angry woman who may want to consider her line of work and/or an attitude adjustment. She even had the audacity to say it usually takes 15 minutes "okay what's your point" this prompted me to look at my receipt to "check myself" on the timeline which wasn't the issue but now that she had shamed me for inquiring I thought I would validate by checking my receipt on how long I had been sitting there which was about 25 minutes. That all to say how disappointing to treat a customer with such a tone and not that my patronage will make a difference to Moulin but it's how she made me feel for inquiring on a meal that I paid for, tipped on in advance and to be frank I wanted to get up a leave without touching my food. Not a good impression and I know you can do better. Hopefully you felt better after giving me a good dose of unwarranted unkindness. read more

I really like Moulin bakery except for today. This is my first time at the San Clemente one- so if you have ever been to the one in Newport know that that one is much much bigger. I asked for two croissants which the lady had to go into the back for since they didn't have any in the front. She was quick which I appreciated. However, ugh! These croissants are so burnt! I ended up eating them anyways, (I scrapped off the top) since I paid $6 for both of them but I think next time I get I crossiant I will be going to Ellie's Table in SJC. read more

I love this cafe. Great place to stop after a bike ride. We often get pastries and they are usually excellent. Last time we were here we got caneles and they were so good we decided to get them again. Today the caneles were very soft on the outside instead of a beautiful crust. Very disappointed. read more

I have been to 3 of their 4 locations around here and this place never disappoints. Their food is yummy and their pastries are too good to pass up. Their croque Madame and croque Monsieur are really tasty. You can't go wrong with their crepes, quiche or eggs Benedict as they're all delicious. We have tried many of their pastries and all have been amazing. Really worth visiting even if you're just popping in to grab a few pastries. Their croissants and eclairs are the best! I have enjoyed Moulin over the years and been to both locations many times, however the staff at this location has been very rude and abrasive every single time I have been here. The manager Sabrine definitely sets the tone, when I let her know of a mistake with my order, she argued with me and refused to accommodate. The tables around us overheard and expressed how appalled they were when she went back inside. Super unfortunate that the service really doesn't match the food quality. Maybe if Sabrine set a good example as a manager the staff would be more friendly. I have a company with 45 employees and if my managers treated my customers like this they would not have a job. Luckily you have a great product. Good luck, you won't see me back until you clean house. read more

Terrible service, they lost my drink order and simply ignored me because I could not give them a number, it felt like they did not believe I had ordered the drinks. Had a delicious breakfast. This was our first time trying Moulin and I would 100% go again and recommend everyone goes and gives it a try! Drove pretty far from my home just to try this place I have heard so much about and no regrets! Ordered latte and almond tart and let me tell you, suddenly I felt like in Paris I absolutely love the way Europeans serve coffee and pasties/cakes, the whole culture behind... I really love this spot and would like to keep coming here but unfortunately the service today was épouvantable (awful). I requested the Croque Madame without ham. This is a simple grilled cheese sandwich (normally with ham) with a fried egg on top. The manager refused saying, they cannot do this. I said, are these pre made ? She said that they make them fresh each time. I was puzzled. Again, I said, why can you not make the Croque Madame without ham? She said, that's not a Croque Madame, that would be a grilled cheese. I said ok, can I have a grilled cheese with an egg on top? She said no, they don't do that. Long story short, she made an 'exception' for me, but failed to make two of these (one for me and one for my friend.) When the order came, I said, hey, there were supposed to be two. She said, NO, I already did this for you once. I cannot do it again. I'm still scratching my head over this one. Am I missing something here? Mulin is the most authentic French Bakery and Cafe I've been to in OC from the friendly servers speaking French, to their menu. The Cappuccinos & breakfast options make this adorable French cafe our top choice in town! We love their quiche, crepes, omelettes, French toast (Pain Perdu) and don't get me started on their pastries!! I also love grabbing a sandwich and heading to the beach! We love, love, love, Moulin here in San Clemente. The staff are wonderful, helpful and friendly. Sometimes, I'll just grab a coffee and walk along the beach trail, but when I have more time, or when we have friends & family stay, it's our 'go to' breakfast place. I love Moulin, but would like to be able to visit more often and on a regularly basis. And would love to give it 5 star! As Europeans we likes to get an afternoon coffee, drink, or a meal after 3PM. The place is perfect to meet in PM, with the beautiful view of the ocean and sunset. I found myself several times trying to meet up with friends in PM just to fund out it's closed. The name "Moulin" (a mill) in French, long associated with "Rouge" for reasons known---is alone as 'Moulin' on a cozy street, in sight of surf, at the heart of San Clemente. If there were a Paris transported, this is it. The Almond Croissants are as close to those found there---as I have ever found outside Parisian streets. Impeccable. The decor is a perfect (though a common experience in Paris), combination of subtle and stunning as a recreation of---just that feeling: original art, dry goods, gracious service----all true of a bistro in France...but especially Paris. Worst breakfast I've had in a loooong time. Omelette was dry with way too much ham, salad was dressed with oil, and bread was so stale I could not take a bite off of it. One, two, three...you're out. Nonone welcomes you to the shop or knowledges you while waiting in line. Then while waiting in line, behind another party, a woman cut in front of me and then ordered as I was beginning to. I think the owner, was the person about to take my order when the other lady starts talking to the owner and the owner blows me off to help her friend. You could tell that them know each other. No one else come to assist me. Then the owner comes back and asked me what I want and walks away from me before I finish my order. Then the owner calls me from the register to pay. I said, I didn't finish my order and I have some questions. I inform her what my friend wants and tells me "we don't have that". My family and I have been long time customers at Moulin and have visited multiple location. Normally we love coming to Moulin, but today we had a really bad experience. It was around noon and we ordered two of the vegan sandwiches. We were told they were out and that the chef was too busy to make us one (it's literally bread, mayo, and some cut veggies). They weren't busy at all and had ton of workers, so I don't know why someone couldn't have made a sandwich out of their many baguettes. As someone with dietary needs/allergens, it is really hard when a restaurant refuses to make an item on their menu because the chef is too busy. It is the same as any other order the chef has to make. Really disappointed. read more
