Our first time here. Note that the coffee was absolutely fantastic! We went with a simple L'Omelette Nature. Menu states "just eggs and fresh herbs". We did add the Emmenal cheese for $1, and fruit for another $1 instead of salad. The omelets were overdone. The "herbs" consisted only of parsley. Pretty flavorless. This place is as authentically French as you can get outside of Paris! Have gone to the Laguna Beach location for years, but this new addition we felt was by far the best. Loved it. The service was awesome, the food was incredible (I had the salad Moulin and the nutty bar), and I adore the bright atmosphere inside. This will absolutely be a regular place for me and I am so happy that they are here! For more specifics: - the salad was a pesto based greenery mix with croutons and chicken with parmesan cheese. It was not heavy but definitely satisfying. - the nutty bar is cake like and has a layer of nutella and toasted nuts. This was my first visit and it was great. I had the vegetarian omelet and both the Nutella and Apricot crepes! They were all great but I wish I could customize the vegetables in the omelet. On my most recent visit to San Clemente I ordered my usual, sat down was enjoying the view, the sun, reflecting on the beauty of our beaches, texting my daughters who love Moulin too and then realized I had been waiting on my food for what seemed like awhile. Not a big deal, but I thought maybe I said "to go" and went to check in with the counter. On my way in the server was headed out the other door with my order and I said "oh great I was just going to check." She proceeded to scold and school me on how busy they are and how everything was made from scratch. Even continuing the scolding as she walked back inside. What was a lovely, perfect day having breakfast at one of my favorite places turned into what was nothing more than a dish of rude, distasteful, arrogant lip from a clearly angry woman who may want to consider her line of work and/or an attitude adjustment. She even had the audacity to say it usually takes 15 minutes "okay what's your point" this prompted me to look at my receipt to "check myself" on the timeline which wasn't the issue but now that she had shamed me for inquiring I thought I would validate by checking my receipt on how long I had been sitting there which was about 25 minutes. That all to say how disappointing to treat a customer with such a tone and not that my patronage will make a difference to Moulin but it's how she made me feel for inquiring on a meal that I paid for, tipped on in advance and to be frank I wanted to get up a leave without touching my food. Not a good impression and I know you can do better. Hopefully you felt better after giving me a good dose of unwarranted unkindness. read more

I loved the Newport location and was thrilled when they opened one in my little San Clemente. I haven't had a chance to try much of the breads like croissants, baguette, etc. However, I enjoy all the food they make there. I haven't had a bad experience like some of the other reviews. The owner is always really friendly. My favorite thing to order is one of the pastries, croque madame, crepes, salad, rotisserie chicken or coffee. I just got back from France and the prices are obviously not comparable because here it may be costly in America to get better products. Butter is one of the main ingredients, which is more costly here if you want European style butter. I come here regularly and it does get crowded like the previous place did. I feel like the staff and management are handling it well. read more

I'm so happy we finally got a chance to try Moulin! They had just moved in to the space where Ellie's Table used to be right after we moved away from Orange County. On our trip back home for the holidays, we decided to try it and we are so glad we did. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you are transported to a little cafe bistro in France (Never been, but I can only imagine :) ). From the colors, to the decorations, French products for sale, and the huge variety of pastries, omelets, crepes, Benedict's and more, Moulin is such a great little breakfast place. I love this cafe. Great place to stop after a bike ride. We often get pastries and they are usually excellent. Last time we were here we got caneles and they were so good we decided to get them again. Today the caneles were very soft on the outside instead of a beautiful crust. Very disappointed. read more

I have been to 3 of their 4 locations around here and this place never disappoints. Their food is yummy and their pastries are too good to pass up. Their croque Madame and croque Monsieur are really tasty. You can't go wrong with their crepes, quiche or eggs Benedict as they're all delicious. We have tried many of their pastries and all have been amazing. Really worth visiting even if you're just popping in to grab a few pastries. Their croissants and eclairs are the best! I have enjoyed Moulin over the years and been to both locations many times, however the staff at this location has been very rude and abrasive every single time I have been here. The manager Sabrine definitely sets the tone, when I let her know of a mistake with my order, she argued with me and refused to accommodate. The tables around us overheard and expressed how appalled they were when she went back inside. Super unfortunate that the service really doesn't match the food quality. Maybe if Sabrine set a good example as a manager the staff would be more friendly. I have a company with 45 employees and if my managers treated my customers like this they would not have a job. Luckily you have a great product. Good luck, you won't see me back until you clean house. read more
