Cool little store in the shopping plaza with a wide array of fermented products: kimchi, sauerkraut, pickled eggs, sourdough starter...you name it, they probably have it. They have a whole wall of kombuchas available for sampling or you can get a slushie for a modest $6. I found the kombucha to be tasty and I appreciated how many flavors they had on tap. They were also sampling a "raw" cake when I was there in two different flavors - I loved the cookies and cream. I opted for a gut booster shot (they have a few options for health shots each at $2.50) in the Curtido flavor and found it to be slightly gross but tasted exactly as you would expect. Prices across the board were pretty reasonable. They do have a full menu as well although we didn't try anything, nor do they really have any seating inside so it's not particularly an appetizing environment. There is some bench-type seating outside. Overall worth a stop in if you're into fermented or pickled products, otherwise it's skippable. read more

Our first time and wow was really impressed. Our breakfast was hot fresh and super tasty. Everybody was so friendly and helpful. We had our dogs and sat outside so they brought our food to us. The building itself is beautiful. Very open and tall ceilings. A huge variety of products for everyone in your family. I highly recommend visiting the fermentation farm. It left us wanting more. Don't forget to try the slushy sample. It was lots of fun. I had a vanilla kombucha on top and it was fabulous. Very family friendly. Very dog friendly. The GOAT of all things fermented. This center is a scene, I cannot imagine getting in and out of here quickly. With that said this should be the #1 reason to come here, Ferm Farm baby!!! Most people were ordering grassfed chili and sourdough and eggs. The store section is about half of what the Costa Mesa Location has but still very cool. I had to get some Tumeric Kimchi, Master Tonic for the immune system, some raw farms Kefir, pickled eggs (sleeper hot always) and so my wife would be happy some sourdough sprouted grain pumpkin muffins. Amazing! I mean for $19 they better be amazing lol. I am obsessed with Fermentation Farm. I with this location was the full store scene but i get the takeout food vibe for this type of location. Really good kombucha! I tried the Guava, Elderberry, Raspberry, and Dragon Apple Ice flavors. The Guava was excellent.it tasted like real, fresh guava. The Raspberry was also great, and I loved that it wasn't dyed pink. It had a natural flavor and was a soft beige with a hint of pink, which made it feel more authentic. The Dragon Apple Ice was really good too.It had very little sugar, unlike other places that overload their drinks with sweetness. The Elderberry was decent, though a bit bland for my taste. We visited Fermentation Farm on a Monday for lunch. It was a nice setup with minimal indoor seating and little shop area of goods and drinks. We ordered lunch that included the taco special and the Tuna Melt along with a sourdough chocolate chip cookie. We also ordered a beat salad to go and ate that later that evening at home. Great flavors for everything we ate. We would come back here again to try other things which is a good sign it was a place we enjoyed. Love the heart behind this restaurant; all ingredients are locally sourced and organic. I ordered the 'award winning' tuna melt with a bowl of chili on the side. The tuna melt was ehh, I would say it's pretty average. I felt like it was thrown together really fast and didn't have a lot of fixings inside. The chili was good though. I was still hungry afterwards. I thought that the tuna melt would be really good because they had marketed it as an award winning. My friend ordered a french dip and it looked like they added a lot of meat in there so maybe it was just what I ordered. We also ordered potatoes on the side and they weren't crispy at all they were more on the moist side and lacked seasonings. Not really my fave but overall I still had a good experience and would try other things on the menu because they're health conscious. They also sell grass fed meat at the store. Stopped by here while I was strolling the market. I picked up the turmeric kimchi, sambar oelek and passionfruit kombucha. The young woman working the front was friendly and helpful. The samba oelek was not good at all. I love SO usually and this just missed. It had a little too much of a vinegary taste and was lacking the asian flavors (ginger/garlic) and wasn't that spicy either. Def not worth $10 a jar. 2/5 I also love passionfruit and kombucha so picked up the passionfruit kombucha. I thought that was very good. Priced at $6 a bottle but was quality - good flavor, fizzy, not too sweet. I'd give it a 4/5 Lastly, I got the turmeric kimchi. That was pretty good but not amazing. I've had grocery store kimchi that's as good. 3.5/5 Generally, too overpriced for the flavor/quality. I'd skip next time. read more

I got the farm breakfast and the orange creamsicle kombucha. All food was delicious and the quality was incredible. Jacob served us and took our order. We loved his friendly demeanor and attention to detail. This location gets knocked off a star due to the very limited seating and to-go only situation. It's not their fault due to nature of the market itself. It's a very busy shopping center and it's necessary for everything to be to-go as there's only about 5 seating options in the restaurant. I just love LOVE this place. What a dream come true for nutritious food conscious people!! I ordered the line caught tuna melt on their gluten-free bread... And my mom had the brisket taco. We also had the mango and guava kombucha- everything was delicious and fresh. We finished our meals with the flourless chocolate cake, and fresh whipped cream with strawberries. It definitely tastes more like a brownie to me... Great flavor, but more like a dense cakey texture. Very rich... Even though we split it, we still couldn't finish the whole thing. I love fermentation farm but usually go to their original location. This place is nice in terms of the location, though it gets pretty crazy here with families and children. You can't beat the food quality here. Their kombucha and jun are excellent and the food is so savory and delicious, you truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My favorites are the farm breakfast, brekkie sando, tuna melt, and bacon chicken ranch pizza. The grass fed beef chili is also super flavorful as well as the chicken taco, though the tacos are too expensive in my opinion. I will forever be a loyal Ferm Farm customer! Thank you! read more

Came here for dinner with my family. It was not what we were expecting. Mom ordered tacos that overly salty, and I ordered beef chili that was more like runny soup with ground beef. Also, I was wondering where the cheese and sour cream was only to find out those are charged extras and I wasn't offered any. The fermented kombucha was not very good and super strong. I've been a loyal customer of Fermentation Farms in Costa Mesa for years, back when it was primarily about bone broth and kombucha. I was thrilled to hear they were opening a San Juan location, especially since I recently moved from Costa Mesa. Unfortunately, the San Juan spot just doesn't live up to the same standards. The staff often seem indifferent, and the kitchen quality has really disappointed me. My go-to dish, eggs, bacon, and potatoes, has been consistently overcooked the last four times I've visited. Burnt eggs, burnt bacon, and potatoes every time. Cooking eggs over easy shouldn't be that difficult. On top of that, getting everything in takeout containers and bags when dining in feels unnecessarily wasteful. I really want to love this location the way I did the original, but it needs some serious attention to quality and care. read more

We went in to peruse their wares like pastured eggs from La Bahn Ranch, house made kombucha, house made sauerkraut, fermented vegetables, fermented condiments, and frozen beef bone broth. They also serve food like their grass-fed beef chili, sourdough, and house made sandwiches. The staff is new and super nice. They have samples of kombucha so you can try before you buy. This location is a welcome addition to the South County scene and I'm so glad we have a location closer to home. read more

Maybe it is me (and my son) but I just was not a fan of Fermentation Farms food the time I went. The location inside the new River Street MarketPlace in SJC is a very nice location as the developer of the center did a great job with the common area, style of the building and the variety of shops and restaurants. Right off the bat I confess that I am not a kombucha fan so I did not try any from the Kombucha bar. My son and I split an order of the beef dip and chili. Both were just ok. There is limited seating inside the restaurant but plenty of public tables outside to enjoy your meal. The staff were very friendly especially the lady who took our order. I guess overall that the food and items at Fermentation Farms are not to my liking but seemed that most of the people there when was eating enjoyed their selections. read more

I love River street! So happy to have this place nearby. At first, I didn't realize Fermentation Farms served food. Love that they don't use seed oils. My faves have been the Chicken Bahn Mi sandwich, the chili, and the tacos. I've picked up some sourdough starter and the sour dough loaf is so good. Staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. I've been waiting for months for this to open. I was excited when I discovered the original Costa Mesa location and would make my half hour commutes to get my foodie fix. I love the special kombucha flavors, health foods, and delicious beef chili. This new marketplace was insanely packed on Saturday. I naively assumed it wouldn't be that busy for the second day of soft opening. Boy, was I wrong! The parking situation was a hot mess and driving in this area should be avoided at all costs in the future. I parked blocks away since there were no spots anywhere near the park or this market. I recommend that you only come here during the weekdays. I will be getting more of my Fermentation fix on now that this is close by and ordering my chili and grilled sauerkraut cheese sandos. read more

I was ecstatic to hear about Fermentation Farm's opening at River Street Marketplace. I have patroned their first and original location in Costa Mesa for many years now, back when there was a member fee to shop there. As the name implies, they are known for gut-healing probiotic rich products; an assortment of fermented veggies, bone broth, raw kefir/dairy products, elderberry syrup and kombucha to name a few. Additionally they have grocery items such as sourdough bread, Le Banh Ranch eggs (the best eggs in the region with golden yolks), and frozen grassfed/clean meat such as chicken, bison, beef, bacon, liver, bones, etc. I could go on... They also function as a counter style ordering restaurant with almost all of their ingredients house made and NO SEED OILS, only avocado oil or ghee is used (maybe EVOO, not sure). This place is a haven for a crunchy granola like me and for those that aren't yet familiar with the health food lifestyle I know they'll have something on their menu to please almost anyone. read more

A few things need fixing and I would rerate it!! But overall good. I'm really excited for the farm opening up! 1. The kombucha on tap is super flat. I've gone twice and both times it was really flat and bland. BUT the bottled ones aren't. Which is a tad frustrating for consistency. Especially when that's their specialty. 2. The service is great everyone is super nice but not the most educated when it comes to their products. I know it's new but they should be top of their game right now after just opening. 3. Love the atmosphere & location. It's super clean and spacious even when it's packed full of people. 4. For your kits like the Scoby kombucha kit, it should come with instructions or a bar code scan for people to learn how to kit at home once purchased. I know how but it's just a scoby, not a kit. - it felt a little misleading when my friend wanted to buy one with me and she felt intimidated and ended up not getting one :( just a suggestion to not loose sales. 5.
