I came here mainly because of the name. It sure sounds like they meant to say something else. Specialty here is sourdough bread. Actually, at least 90 of its items are sourdough based, even sweet pastries and cookies. Grabbed a regular sourdough, jalapeno cheddar sourdough, and a sourdough peanut butter dark chocolate cookie with sea salt. Sourdough breads were substantial and solid. The cookie was excellent. I really didn't get any sourdough taste in the cookie. Service was friendly and helpful. It's a tiny spot, mainly meant for just grab & go items. This little bakery is always out of stuff by the time I get there but I was early this time. However most everything was chocolate which isn't my first pick. They had a lemon blueberry sourdough muffin so I got 1 to try. When I had it the next day for breakfast, I was pleasantly surprised by how many blueberries were in the muffin itself. I'm so mad at myself for waiting years to try this bakery out! Their sourdough loaves are crazy good. Perfect crust but soft and doughy on the inside. I got the classic sourdough and rosemary garlic loaves. Both had a really great sourdough tang. The rosemary garlic had big chunks of garlic and rosemary throughout the loaf which tasted incredible toasted. Also highly recommend the sourdough cinnamon roll. read more

Escaped the Palm Springs heat with our trip to Dana point and San Juan Capistrano, last time we were here they had already sold out of the chocolate sourdough croissants. They make fresh bread every morning and said the flavor that sells out the most was the jalapeño cheddar. That's exactly what I got. The crust was thick, the inside was chewy, and the jalapeño to cheddar ratio was good. The staff here were so friendly. I'll be honest, I was waiting in line for BBQ across the street and my wife got some Baklava Croissant with Pistachio from this spot for us. Stopped by FKN Bakery while my wife was at a doctor's appointment and decided to grab a couple of cookies (I'm a big cookie fan and always down to try a new spot). Glad I did -- these were very good. I went with the salted chocolate chip and the peanut butter dark chocolate. Both were crispy on the edges, soft in the middle, generously sized, and reasonably priced. Easy 4 out of 5 stars for each. Parking was a little tricky...ended up in the back paid lot, didn't feel like paying the two bucks, so I made it a quick in-and-out mission and was relieved to come back to my car still ticket-free am I had two cookies in a brown bag - win win and a grin! They sell out of most pastries before 10am on the weekend, and with good reason! I hear the bagels are so good, so I'm excited to try them next time. A friend of mine stopped by this weekend and picked up a Jalapeño Cheddar Sourdough loaf ($13) for me. I'm happy to report that FKN Bread still makes the best Jalapeño Cheddar Sourdough. They don't skimp on the jalapeño or cheddar. Their sourdough has just the right fermented taste that makes me crave it. I was afraid their prices might have skyrocketed since my last visit years ago, but at $13, it's still reasonable for the size and quality of the loaf. We stopped by this bakery right before heading into The Mission. FKN are initials of their sons. I didn't know what to expect when I walked in. From the outside, I thought it was bigger but it's a cute tiny little grab and go place. Each of the pastries are on display. Then I noticed this bakery specializes in everything sourdough which is my least favorite bread. We got ham and cheese sourdough croissant and chocolate sourdough croissant. Even though I'm not a fan of sourdough, it wasn't tastable in the ham and cheese but very noticeable in the dark chocolate croissant. Had the sour salty flavor. It's a matter of preference and sourdough is just not for me. I also wished they could have offered to heat it up. Instead it was cold and hard. Oh my goodness, that was one of the best chocolate cupcakes I've had. I didn't realize it would have a peanut butter frosting but it was heavenly! It was salty and sweet and worked great with the moist chocolate cupcake. This must be a five star place as I realized I drove 45 minutes to grab some goodies twice in one month. It was a positive day. I snagged parking right up front in busy San Juan, and FKN had their jalapeño cheddar loaf in stock. There is a sweet young woman working up front who greeted me and when asked for suggestions, she gave her favorites and what was popular. Her favorites included the everything bagel croissant for savory items and pumpkin muffin for sweet. They both were absolutely scrumptious. The bagel croissant was all fluffiness and butter w cream cheese as a bonus. Pumpkin muffin was moist and balanced. I haven't eaten the loaf yet but my coworker recommended to toast a slice with butter when I get home. Others that were recommended for its popularity include the baklavah muffin. I personally want to tell you to stay away from this place, it's way too addicting and good. My husband and I can't get enough of their sourdough. I would show pictures but the bread never makes it that long. You honestly can't go wrong with anything you buy here but a must is the sourdough and the jalapeño cheese scones. Drove up to SJC from Oceanside to take a friend to lunch for her birthday. We walked past FKN Bread on our way to the restaurant and decided to stop by after eating. We were warmly greeted as we walked in. There were a few pastries, though we decided to ask about the sour dough bread choices. We opted to take advantage of the 2 for $20 special.
