We tried this place for a custom cake about 6 years ago. While the look was amazing, I didn't think the flavor was great. This time for my birthday, I thought we'd try a standard flavor cake since they should be making it on the regular. We got the lemon delight. It was super sweet. I couldn't eat any of the frosting and the frosting filling next to the lemon was very sweet. They also messed up my name. I remember my husband spelling out my name like the military nato style too but what was written on the order form was wrong. And then on the cake was wrong and didn't even match the order form. I know my name is difficult but I guess the decorator wasn't there so it was a difficult fix. They apologized and gave us candles. On a side note and not affecting this rating: We ate at the cafe side once and it was good. But we sat outside and had a bad experience unrelated to the cafe. Someone with their huge hairy dog was just outside the cafe and rubbing their long hair dog getting it into the air and the wind was blowing it all over our food and drinks and also in the nearby tables. Definitely killed the appetite. This is not affecting the rating. Rating is based solely on the cakes. read more

So we decided to just buy one raspberry cupcake. I had it for breakfast in the morning. It was super delicious. It was a very satisfying chocolate cupcake with a raspberry cream on top covered in fine chocolate. I regretted that we discovered it the night just before we departed. Also, our hotel was just crossing the street from this shop. We stayed at the hotel for four days and three nights. All in all, the pastries and the service quality were truly exceptional. We ordered 12 cupcakes for my kids little birthday celebration. I did it via email and it somehow got lost and luckily I am an annoying double check person and called and was able to get the order located and they were able to make it. The cake is pretty dense and very moist, pretty darn good! The buttercream frosting just wasn't very sweet, a mild flavor that was just subpar. They told me they were going to make "ocean themed" sprinkles but they had multi colored ones instead, which were fine... I had originally asked for those or no sprinkles, but when talking to the lady I think Jennifer on the phone she said they could do ocean theme. Ordered from them because 15 years ago they made our wedding cake and it was the best cake not only myself and husband have ever had but we got so many compliments and questions on who we ordered from. My husband and I came in to celebrate our 10-year anniversary by getting cake from the same place that made our wedding cake. We were really excited to come back for something meaningful. Unfortunately, the customer service was disappointing. When we walked in, we were barely acknowledged, and the staff seemed annoyed when we placed our order. It was especially surprising because the shop wasn't busy at all and all the tables inside were empty. As we were leaving, I noticed broken glass on the floor. I went back to let the person who took our order know, and his response felt very flippant, which was frustrating since I was simply trying to make sure my two-year-old son (and other customers) didn't accidentally step on it. We've loved the cake from here in the past, which is why this experience was such a letdown. I hope the customer service improves. read more

The owner of a local Laguna restaurant recommended this bakery, and helped facilitate our request, by placing the order for us. The cake was perfectly made with pastel Easter colors. Dark chocolate and light yellow cake layers were separated by a fruit layer and creamy frosting layers. The frosting was very nice... Not overly sweet. A long over due review. At our wedding in June 2022, everyone was raving about our cake! It was a 3 layer vanilla with champange filling. We went back this year for our one year anniversary cake and had lunch there also. Both the cupcakes and the cake are perfectly moist and taste so good! The location is cute and offers ample about of seating. They had a decent sized menu and was a perfect compliment to try some other sweets. We were looking for a breakfast place to eat down the street and stopped by What a Dish, which is the same location that serves a mean breakfast (see their page for my review!) The mini did not seem so mini; it was actually the perfect portioning, especially with the BOGO50% offer here. Although they have rotating flavors, we tried the lemon and the snickerdoodle. Mini Lemon Cupcake $4.50: This was definitely my favorite of the 2. The lemon flavor was strong and the cupcake itself was moist, especially with the filling inside. Whipped cream paired perfectly to balance the tartness of the cake itself. Mini Snickerdoodle Cupcake $4.50: We could not resist when we saw this flavor! However, I felt like it lacked the true cinnamon flavor of a snickerdoodle. It tasted a bit bland and dry to me, but the frosting made it slightly better. I can't forget to mention that they have quite a bit of gluten-free options that seem worth a return. My husband and I walked by this place on Mother's Day and decided to check the place out. It was busy but not overly crowded. The first thing I noticed was that it's part bakery (It's All About The Cake) and part cafe/bistro (What A Dish) which also offers catering.
