We were looking forward to a relaxed meal and ordered a pizza and a caesar salad, asking if they could be served together. The pizza, which we typically love from brick oven-style places, took unusually long--long enough that it felt like more of a system or staffing issue than a kitchen delay. Our order was taken by the bartender, who was also managing a busy bar, so we didn't get any table check-ins from him. Eventually, we flagged down another waiter and asked if the salad could come out while we waited for the pizza. About three minutes later, both the pizza and the salad were brought to the table. Unfortunately, the salad was missing its dressing--likely because it had been sitting partially prepped and just never finished. It seemed like a small detail that was overlooked, possibly because the waiter wasn't assigned to our table and didn't notice or take the time to check. When the bartender finally returned, probably after noticing we are not eating anymore, we mentioned the salad issue as constructive feedback. He was very apologetic and kindly removed the salad from the bill, which we appreciated. It was a thoughtful gesture. Overall, it felt like the restaurant may have been short-staffed--we even noticed someone who appeared to be the manager stepping in to help serve tables. The food was also average considering the prices, and the experience suffered from a lack of coordination and attentiveness. We hope things improve, as the place has promise. read more

The server was great. And we've been there the last few years and the Valentine's Day meal was exceptional. But this year it was ice, cold puff pastry with a teaspoon of Brey and apricot undressed greens underneath. Followed by a very under seasoned steak, crunchy polenta, and congealed demi-glace. My friend and I have both been having a lot of struggles in our personal lives and needed a day off, so we decided to take a vacation day on a random Thursday and go to the Sundial Bridge so I could see what all the hype was about. Once we were there we decided that we absolutely deserve a nice lunch and a drink so decided to go to Mosaic and it was *so* incredibly worth it. We sat at the bar, and I'll be fully transparent here, it was a bad day for them. It seemed like they were short staffed, with all their FOH people looking like they were running around covering for at least one person who wasn't there, and their system kept going offline to boot. When I tell you that we had the best lunch, the most amazing drinks, and such a good time, I will go back on any day, including the days when it should have been miserable. Every single staff member was kind, but the bartender who was serving us was the best. He was apologetic when he felt he was behind, even though we never felt like we were being ignored or that anything was moving slowly. We were able to enjoy our food (we split the ceaser salad, and a french dip) when we asked him to make us a drink, based off color, liquor type and "sweet" he not only did so but made us probably the best drink I've ever tasted. The food was top tier, but beyond that we were able to sit there and talk about death and tear up, then switch to laughing over something ridiculous and still felt welcome to be there taking up space at their bar. I wish I lived closer I would go back regularly because the staff that was was so great. I cannot for the life of me remember our bartenders name, but it was Thursday July 24 so if management sees this please give that guy a raise, or at the very least some praise. He handled two frazzled women with grace, and when other customers were being unkind he never faltered and stayed professional across the board. 13/10 on all fronts, we will absolutely be coming back and hopefully soon. read more

We went during brunch time. We were seated in a more dimly lit area which gave for a cool ambiance toward the back side of the restaurant. Our waiter Ryan was an interesting fellow but was nice. We didn't get any water refills though which my friend needed so she had to drink my water. The food was delicious. The salad was very light with the vinaigrette. The salmon cakes were super moist and paired nicely with the jalapeño aioli. I liked the capers inside the salmon cakes giving it a little pop of flavor balance. The prime rib au jus sandwich was delicious and super filling. I couldn't even finish it. My friend also ordered the French onion soup which was a lot bigger than it looked. We ordered mimosas as well. We got to go boxes for our sandwiches and poured our au jus in to go cups where the waiter was intrigued if we could get it in the cup which was kind of amusing. Mosiac is most likely the finest restaurant in Redding, let me explain. If you've read my reviews, I am always rooting for local businesses. A great Restaurant is in a great location, has great ambiance, with great staff and great food. Mosaic definitely checks all of those boxes. First, the location is great, located in the brand new Sheraton Hotel property adjacent to Turtle Bay and the Sundial Bridge, both huge Redding Attractions. Ambiance is fantastic, with a clean modern decor inside the Bar and Restaurant. The building and architecture fit in nicely with the surrounding area and the Sheraton Hotel property. The property is immaculate with fresh clean winding walkways with several outdoor fire pits. The staff are knowledgable and welcoming, and actually take a minute to get to know their guests. The service was prompt and professional. Most of all, Redding is so lucky to have such a talented Chef with an impressive resume to back it up. Chef Joshua is amazing, bringing his worldly experience back to the Northern California. He has experience at Michelin rated restaurants like the French Laundry in Yountville. His resume is impressive, but more impressive is his food and passion. On our visit we had the pleasure of meeting the Chef, and his friendly, outgoing, humble demeanor matches the quality of his food. On our visit we ordered the Duck and the Carbonara Pasta. Both dishes were a solid 10 out of 10. The Duck was perfectly cooked with a nice crunchy fat in each bite. The accompaniments were spot on. The pasta Carbonara was made with a delicious prosciutto, fresh local mushrooms, and the pasta noodle itself was cooked perfectly al dente'. These entree's were better than food we have ordered in Italy and Europe. My hope is that Mosaic will be able to attract both local and travelers alike to keep this hidden gem and talented chef busy enough to make it in Redding. read more

During our visit to Turtle Bay Exploration Park yesterday, my best friend's blood sugar dropped quite low, and he went above and beyond to make sure she got some juice right away. Recommended by a waiter in Ashland as a great lunch dinner stopover, I took his advice and stopped. Mosiac is attached to the Sheraton, a Bonvoy Marriott property. It is also adjacent to Turtle Adventure Park and the Sundial Bridge. This is a great place to lunch a land stretch your legs! Perfect if you need a break from driving. In need of some greens, I opted for their miso steak salad. Just full of savory flavors and awakened my taste buds and renewed my senses for the 2 1/2 drive to Sac Town. The restaurant itself is very open but cozy. Lots of big screens for any sports minded diner to catch a game. They are not overwhelming however so one can still enjoy a quiet dinner as well. We said we have our dog, so we thought we had to sit outside. She said nothing to this, but added us to the waitlist and then when she called us, sat us outside. We ordered dinner for take-out. What we got was okay but way over priced for what it was. My husband ordered the duck, which was okay but not as good as other places we tried on our trip. It was meant to come with a salad and didn't. I ordered the Caesar salad with prawns and dressing on the side. No dressing was included: a heap of green and 5 prawns with 3 large croutons. The person who took our order wasn't paying attention. She asked me to repeat things several times and when she read the order back it wasn't right. The person who handed it to us was very friendly and, when she realized we were staying T the hotel, offered real silverware and napkins. That's a plus. Food was mediocre at best, Food came out sporadically like 5 mins per meal, my wife's friend Mahi Mahi was luke warm at best other friends salad came with Salmon and not chicken in which she ordered. We were a party of 8 and not one of us thought it even was up to McDonald's standards. Fancy names for Diced Tomatoes and mozzarella cheese doesn't cut it.. I can't for the life of me figure out why it is even sitting at 4.0 stars .. There are Sooooooo many other restaurants that are better in the area and I hope that out of town people do not think that this place represents Redding in any way shape or form. I would usually just let this kind of thing go but the fact that I'm still thinking about it tells me I need to say something. Especially since it constitutes a cross contamination health code violation. 4 stars for a great food, attentive service and atmosphere, just a little issue with a server with an ego. I'm a nurse now but previously spent 15years in food service and have done every job in a restaurant you could do, and loved it. I know how demanding it is physically, mentally and emotionally to be in food service. I was sitting at the bar tonight, having dinner with a girlfriend, being wonderfully taken care of by the bartender when I see him pass off a parm shaker (small glass jar with perforated metal lid holding Parmesan cheese) to another employee. Unfortunately, the recipient missed the handoff and dropped it on the ground. Absolutely no big deal, happens every day. What was a big deal was that he just picked it up and put it right back in the reach-in (little fridges underneath the back bar where they keep condiments and bottles of wine, etc.) As he walked by me, I said "that parm shaker fell on the floor, are you gonna wipe it off"? He looked at me, thought for a second, and said "well, I could", so I said " it fell on the floor and you put it right back in the reach-in. ARE you going to wipe it off?" "NO" he said, and walked away. I know this might sound trivial, but I just kept thinking about all the things that accumulate on the floor behind the bar that I would not want in my food, and how I would feel if I didn't say something and somebody got sick or, I don't know, just the thought of it grosses me out. So after we were done with our meal, I caught the bartenders attention and told him. He was nice enough about it and took the shaker out of the fridge and set it on the side of the back bar. I got the feeling he was humoring me, but it wasn't worth taking any further. Later I saw the person that had dropped it tell the bartender "sorry about that" and the bartender said "don't worry about it", and glance at me. I apologize for not getting names, I usually do so I can call people by their name. I really just wanted a quiet low key dinner with a friend, so wasn't being too gregarious with everyone else. What happened with the shaker was a minor deal, and easily fixable once pointed out. The annoying thing was how I was treated. When somebody points out a simple issue to you (a health code violation no less) and your responses to be rude to them instead of just fixing it, that's the problem. Anyways, take it as you will. Maybe bring a wet wipe when you get a parmesan shaker here. read more

Small town fine dining restaurant that was quite impressive! Fine dining restaurants in San Francisco are small plates / sharing portions so we definitely ordered too much but it gave us plenty of leftovers to enjoy the next day and more dishes to review. Elote Tagliatte: 4/5 so creamy and delicious. The fried cotija really added to the experience. It didn't have enough acid tho so the creaminess became overwhelming after a bit. Shroom Shroom Pizza: 2/5 the flavor was lacking but the pizza dough is very good! Would probably get something else Crispy Brussels: 5/5 I just love crispy Brussel sprouts in general! The lemon marmalade with the pecans just elevated the sprouts Pickled French fry: 3/5 a little dry and tasted almost like a spiced sweet potato. Ran out of secret sauce but it was good with ranch. Probably would skip next time. Beet salad: 4/5 beets + oranges + fennel + feta is the perfect combo!!! But it felt like it was missing something Rosemary pavlova: 4/5 it was the most random combination ever but it somehow worked? Rosemary pavlova topped with corn pudding, black rice and stone fruit. The corn pudding really surprised me but it balanced so well with the Rosemary pavlova! Our server (Zane, I believe was his name): amazing! He was very sweet and attentive. A little uncomfortable seating, but sufficient. Service was excellent on our busy night. They have a lot of room for family groups. OK, I've posted about our first visit here six years ago. This place never, I say, never disappoints. They have recently changed out their happy hour menu...and it's rocking. We've been here for lunch, dinner and brunch but this happy hour thing on a Friday was just plain delightful. The pizzas are large and priced right, along with the salads. The small bites are so perfectly cooked and plated. A smart tip is the breaded pickle chips and the pork belly sliders...figure it out:) Vegetarian wife loved the lettuce wraps...and the night wore on. P. S. We were excited to try. Unfortunately that didn't work out. We ordered the 59.00 rib steak. It was hi-lighted in a box and was the most expensive item on the menu. The presentation was lovely, sauce was delicious, the steak however tough and chewy. Couldn't eat it, my jaw got tired. Waiter finally checked in and we told him it was inedible. He offered 20.00 off of 120.00, which was not acceptable. Then manager offered taking off one meal. We didn't press it, but they should have taken both off. They had the opportunity to save a paying customer, but we paid 60.00 for something we couldn't eat. This is all a plus, however the menu seemed ever so slightly pretentious which probably matched the atmosphere since we heard many customers complaining about minor inconveniences. The Brussels sprouts, drinks and pork were all amazing. The mahi mahi which was stated to be one of their top selling items, was bursting with flavor- none of which seemed to be cohesive. I wanted something from the regular appetizers but the waiter let me know the chefs won't make it during happy hour. We stayed the extra hour for dinner and finally ordered the appetizer we wanted, It was worth the wait but would've been better if it was already on the happy hour menu, or if you could just order from the regular dinner menu. Service was fine, nothing extraordinary but the food was good. There wasn't many people inside, but it still took 40 minutes to receive our pizza. Once it arrived it had a hole in the dough, they asked if we wanted this pizza or to wait 3 minutes for a new one, we just said it's fine and took it since it had been so long and we were starving.
