Came here on a Friday night around 7:30ish. When I entered, the place was fully booked with reservations but was able to get seats at the bar upstairs after a few minutes. I've been to this location when it was a Korean restaurant and had similar rustic vibes. Ended up getting the Donkatsu which comes with salad, rice and sauce. It was a solid meal, not out of this world but really good. My friend got an assorted hand rolls which looked esthetically nice. They have an extensive menu and I want to their noodles next time. Overall had a good experience. * Good service * Recommend making reservations * Meter parking
I'm not entirely sure why I schlepped all the way here for Hallmark's biggest holiday. Or why I had sushi in a town famous for.....Korean food. But there are a lot of things in this world that don't make sense, and I'm no Vulcan. Anywho, the food was just okay. We started with Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice that had way, wayyyy too much mayo. It was more like sriracha aioli with a side of fried rice. Somewhere in all that creamy coral was fish, but my senses couldn't really detect it. The Crab Cream Croquettes were better, but--being totally on brand, it seems--there was much more cream than seafood. The Mentaiko Basil Pasta was pretty to behold, but I learned that I don't like my pasta cold. And spinach really can't make up for a lack of basil, no matter how much chlorophyll you get. Next came my entree: the Moru Don. Pretty to behold. Fresh to the taste. But unfortunately, my don came with a thick layer of negitoro--and there was way more negi than toro. Anyone who knows me knows I loathe scallions. I think they're the devil's herb. They're the plant equivalent of your worst Hinge date dunked into a sea of your biggest childhood traumas and then glazed with your deepest fears. They taste like rotten onions crying at their own funeral. I hate them. And I normally never have to encounter them in a chirashi bowl. But Moru decided to be different and mash their maguro with a billion slices of this unholy herb. So I was cursed to encounter it in every bite of my dinner, no matter how hard I tried. I tried praying. I touched garlic. I burned sage. But I couldn't escape the negi. The only respite I got was to try a bit of the Spicy Blue Crab Crispy Rice and Shiso Yellowtail Premium Handroll. The former didn't have enough crab, and the latter lacked adequate shiso. So no winning there either. Anyway, many hard lessons were learned from this meal, but the hardest lesson of all was not to go all the way to Fort Lee for chirashi. Even if is a *little* more affordable than Manhattan.
Best Kaisendon in the area! The Moru Don is a must get - it comes with toro, sweet shrimp, salmon, scallop, tuna, salmon roe, tobiko cucumber, etc on a bed of rice. It also comes with a side of pickled chayote, miso soup, salad, as well as some nori. The fish is so fresh and the portion is very generous at $32. I also recommend the hand roll set - it's 4 rolls and miso soup for $28. The salmon avocado is surprisingly really unique and creamy. The spicy tuna comes with chunks with tuna which creates really nice texture. The creamy scallop just melts in your mouth. The soft shell crab has a nice crunch and a nice way to end the set. Staff are always friendly and food comes out fast. It is also easy to find street parking nearby.
service- 5/5 attentive and super friendly staff Food- 5/5 both dishes, lunch Maru don set and hand roll set were phenomenal! The portion was great and the side dishes complimented the main dish so well. All the ingredients tasted super fresh, and they highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients so well. There was a nice variety of flavors and textures that really made this place stand out. ambiance- 5/5 sooo lovely and calm interior! The location of the restaurant maximizes the natural sunlight which makes the interior feel warm and inviting. This has been my favorite meal of the year so far. I'd definitely recommend this place!
I've been dying to try MORU for a while now, as all the food I've tried in Fort Lee NEVER misses. My group all tried one of their Gozen set lunches - I had the hand roll gozen which came with a huge portion and assortment of dishes, including 2 classic hand rolls, a portion of udon, hamachi, fried shrimp, and various vegetables/salads. This was the perfect introduction to their menu and I was delighted by the generous portion of food. I really loved how all the gozen came with a mini bowl of udon even if it wasn't part of the main dish as well! We were seated promptly and with a striking view. Their main dining area sits on the corner of an intersection and has windows all around, so there was a wonderful amount of sunlight streaming through which provided the most cozy and inviting atmosphere. Although the view is just of the street, it was my favorite part and great for people watching. Service was perfect - they answered any questions and were happy to give recommendations/explain the menu. Kept our complimentary hot waters full throughout the meal as well. MORU 100% lived up to the hype and I was glad to take my out-of-town friend here to show them North Jersey has some of the best eats. Perfectly located nearby my work and usual stomping grounds as well - I can't wait to return!
Impressive menu and comparable to manhattan levels with creativity, freshness, and presentation. I ordered the nine mini plates tasting box in February under their specials. Service was attentive. Each tasting was quite an adventure to the palate. I look forward to the special seasonal menu.
One of the best meals that I have had in a while! Went here to celebrate my birthday and it was the perfect place to treat myself to high-quality food without breaking the bank too much. The food here is SO GOOD and made with quality and creativity in mind. To start, we got a variety of starters and hand rolls, which really set the tone for our meal because of how delicious everything was. Till this day, I am still dream about the hand rolls. We tried the salmon avocado, spicy tuna, creamy scallop and soft shell crab and I love how they were all so good in their own ways. For our main dishes, we ordered the bulgogi cream udon, korean fried chicken, and the sukiyaki nabe and have nothing but positive things to say about each of them. The bulgogi cream udon is so unique with the udon, and the creaminess of the sauce paired so well with the bulgogi. I also really enjoyed the broth of the sukiyaki, which was so flavorful and comforting. Dining here is really so special and it was one of those meals where you leave feeling so satisfied and happy to eating such good food!! I cannot wait to be back :)
Came across this relatively new restaurant in fort lee with good reviews so had to come try, and it did not disappoint. Plenty of street parking or parking lots around this area. You do have to make a reservation for the restaurant it gets pretty busy especially on the weekends. We made a reservation a few days prior. It is a spacious restaurant and the service is pretty good, nothing special but pretty efficient overall. The sushi is what stood out to me, the fish is very fresh and quality of fish was great. The wagyu tartare was amazing as well, and it really came down to the quality of meat. I think this is one of the best quality sushi in the area despite fort lee having so many asian restaurants. Loved their karaage as well, very well fried and their katsu tasted great too. Their strawberry match was medium and dessert was medium as well. Would definitely be coming here for more sushi in the future!
I got the regular lunch sushi set on a Saturday, I think they serve it everyday. Their sushi is incredibly flavorful and fresh. The toppings are extremely flavorful even tho there's only a little dollop on each, you can really taste the perilla or whatever is on top for each fish and it balances very nicely. I think every part of the sets here match to make a very balanced meal making good food become great. The udon is nice and chewy and the soup savory without being salty. I would say these sets are similar to the NYC affordable omakase but with a better price point. The place is also very pretty and nice with big open windows. The waiters are very conscious of everything to make sure the experience is nice like in the Korean fusion restaurants in NYC. Overall very good!
2nd time trying Moru, it doesn't quite meet my satisfaction. I was craving an uni dish, more specifically uni bibimbap, and their Mentaiko Avocado Bibimbap ($21, with uni added; comes with miso soup) just didn't sell it. My husband got the Donkatsu (pork cutlet; $19) and that was also watered down/soggy; you're better off getting donkatsu from Yum Sem in Closter. The Salmon Avocado Tartar ($18) was decent -- probably what we enjoyed the most that visit. Sparkling drinks aren't homemade (and expensive @ $6.50). Service was great; the waiter & waitress were attentive and accommodating. Ambiance is sweet and homie; being upstairs on a rainy night with the large, slanted windows bearing the city made me feel like I joined a set in Ratatouille or a Miyazaki film.
I really enjoyed our meal at MORU. We had a few apps, which were all delicious. The portions were very generous. The service was SO fast, and we were done with our lunch in 45 minutes. The restaurant is cute and sunny, but be prepared to loop around for parking. I do wish there were more beverage options on the menu but overall we had a very nice experience.
We come here every week and always enjoy it. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food is excellent. service was great
Much better menu selection this time. Hand roll set of course ~ And then more from the noodle section. Definitely better than any sashimi or sushi. We have made up our mind about not ordering sashimi or sushi from Moru, so - noodles it was. Quite good. Everyone was satisfied with all three : soft tofu brisket spicy ramen, kimchi donkatsu noodle (too spicy and salty), and the cold buckwheat noodles. The soft tofu spicy ramen was the best among the three. Will come back to try this again.
Umami flavors galore! Moru has amazing Japanese- and Korean-fusion dishes. I have no idea how they come up with the combination of flavors. Here are some recent favorites: * Potato salad with cucumber, corn, and bacon: I already like Japanese potato salad, but the bacon on top was extra special. * Agedashi tofu with seaweed pesto: The seaweed pesto was like a delicious unami paste on top of a mild soft tofu. * Blue crab crispy rice roll: I'm not sure if the crispy rice was necessary in the roll, but it was still good. * NY strip steak don with caramelized onions and soy sauce rice: This may be one of my ultimate comfort foods. Not only was there nicely grilled teriyaki steak, the caramelized onions, soy sauce rice, and chopped green onions added even more flavor that all went very well together. Forget chicken noodle soup...I want this when I am sick. read more

Cozy and modern Japanese place in NJ. The food is good but nothing that blows your mind. Food was more of a 3 but the service was a 4 that bumped up the review. What we liked: My friends and I like the Moru Don and Eel Don. The rice cake and sausage in the stick were good (crispy with good sauce) but pricy for what it is. The average items: The Kimchi Nabe and Sukiyaki Nabe are average. The Kimchi Nabe turned out to be more spicy than the staff described it and the friend that couldn't eat spicy food had a hard time finishing it. The fried squid appetizer was crispy and good texture; without being over fried. What to avoid: Definitely skip the bulgogi udon and the creamy one, both were very disappointed. The sweet bulgogi with sweet broth which isn't something my group was used to. The seaweed in the hand rolls were a little soggy, likely due to the moisture from the rice. read more
Moru may just be one of my favorite restaurants in Fort Lee. A Korean-Japanese fusion restaurant, Moru serves a wide range of dishes from curry to jjampong to don and sushi. I ordered the Moru Don and my friend ordered their Bulgogi Cream Udon with handrolls set. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The fish was plentiful and fresh. Overall, service was attentive and ambiance was great with lots of natural lighting. A great restaurant to eat and yap. read more

I'm a little torn about Moru. I liked everything I had here....except for the sushi. It was not very good and carries a premium price tag. I got the salmon sashimi and sushi set which comes with a few pieces of salmon sashimi, 8 pieces of nigiri, and 8 pieces of maki. I found the quality to be just ok. The other items I've tried were all excellent. I highly recommend the K.F.C. and crab cream croquette. All in all I think Moru is pretty good. I'll probably skip the sushi next time, but I do want to check out some of their other menu items. read more

Visited on Saturday at 2 PM. Although the restaurant was full, the service was surprisingly fast, and the food came out quickly. The sushi set was delicious, and all the side dishes were well-balanced and flavorful. The only thing we found a bit off was the unagi don sauce--it was a little too salty. Even after mixing it with all the white rice in the bowl, it was still a bit much. On the other hand, the gyu-katsu was perfectly cooked! Overall, both the food and the ambiance were excellent. Definitely planning to come back! read more
Was on my way home but decided to take a detour to satisfy our sushi cravings. Didn't have a reservation but was able to get a seat right as we entered on a weekday evening. Service was very friendly and professional. Well explained and polite. We got an appetizer and each the sushi set. It was good overall. Guess I should've read the menu better or have let them know first given my allergy but didn't realize there was shellfish (but thankfully the wife let me switch a few with her so worked out). Nice intimate atmosphere, great for groups or dates. It is BYOB which I wished I knew ahead too so just keep that in mind. All in all, cute local place if you're in the mood for sushi. read more

It's my 2500th review!! I'm happy to say that it goes to MORU in Fort Lee. I think I have found my new real sushi spot. Real sushi restaurants are hard to come by in Jersey. Most are fushi (aka rolls smothered in various sauces). But MORU is the real deal. Hubby and I stopped in for lunch on a Thursday at around 1:30. I already knew I wanted to get some oysters, so I was really happy to find out that they happened to be on a happy hour special. It's $2/oyster Mon-Fri from 11:30 AM to 6 PM, so we ordered a dozen of those. The oysters are a nice size and came with this nice chili garlic oil. I probably could have eaten two dozen of these on my own. We ended up ordering another half a dozen but some of those were not shucked properly. For the main, they have lunch sets so we each did the premium sushi set, which is 9 pcs of premium sushi, cabbage salad, and a mini udon. The cabbage salad came with a sesame dressing I did not care for so see if you can ask for this on the side. The udon was a nice addition to the meal, especially on a cool day. We opted for the three additional pieces for $9, which wasn't worth it. It was tuna, salmon, and shrimp. The tuna and salmon were good but the shrimp was one of those cooked shrimp pieces that are usually used as filler pieces. I can't remember what all of the premium pieces were, but I can honestly say there was not one piece I did not like. Usually, there's one or two that are super fishy, but that wasn't the case here - even the piece with the silver skin on it! My favorite was definitely the scallop, uni, and toro. We also ordered a set of handrolls to share. We picked uni, negi toro, scallop, and salmon/ikura. All of them were great. It seemed that a lot of people were ordering the seiro-mushi set, so I'll have to try that next time I dine in. I've also ordered takeout a few times (the premium sushi set again) and it holds up, even after eating it an hour or two later. My only complaint is that you can only order appetizers or sets for takeout. So if you wanted to order anything a la carte, like handrolls or sushi pieces, that's not available. Hopefully they change that policy soon. read more

Moru is what 2025 Asian eats should feel like. Korean-Japanese fusion that hits with flavor, precision, and respect for both roots. The spicy tuna over crispy rice? Had it before -- but not like this. The bulgogi cream udon felt like a tribute to both cultures, blended into something new and fire. Staff is friendly, vibe is trendy but welcoming, music's on point -- everything flows. It's authentic, but elevated for a new era. Hats off to whoever built this spot. I'll be back, no doubt. read more
It is a nice place for lunch. Parking is a little tricky since there is no parking by the restaurant, only street parking, but there is a strip mall next door, so I parked there and walked across the street. The restaurant is clean and simply decorated. I had Chirashi rice and a rice bowl with seafood on top, and my friend had a curry with a pork cutlet. Chirashi rice was a little pricy but excellent; it was almost like a Poke bowl. The service was terrific, and the food was delicious. I would return. I recommend it to anyone looking for good Japanese food. read more

Excellent food all around! We got the sushi premium set which was fresh and varied. The sukiyaki was warm and filling and the soba was nice and refreshing. I really wanted to love this place. Food was ok. Nothing to rave about. Service was ok. No one ever came to check on us throughout our entire meal but we didn't need anything so it worked out. Pricing is pretty high. I am indifferent about this place. Nothing crazy. Nothing bad. Would I come back?, prob not. Would I recommend?. Prob not.. it's byob. And seats are a little strange. It's slanted like a sports car. My back isnt so great so I didn't love the chairs. Had the mentaiko basil pasta, it is served cold. Had no idea it'd be cold. But taste was it was prob the best thing we had. Handrolls had the a5wagyu. Toro negi. & truffle scallops. Their sushi rice was a little funky for me. U ended up not eating the sushi rice. Miso soup was more like a korean soybean soup than traditional miso. Not bad. No complaints just unexpected. Had their toro don added ikura, uni & caviar it was pretty decent but the handrolls kind have set their bar low. Perhaps we ordered the wrong food. But their place is called Mori Maki. I thought the Makis would be the star. read more
Food was pretty good and I'd go back there to try other stuff on their menu! Went during Vday and it was fairly packed. Our server was friendly and food came pretty quickly. There were minor things like the fried crab hand roll (will try customizing the hand rolls next time) and the rice on the spicy crispy tuna appetizer that I wasn't a big fan of..but nonetheless the food was good read more

Bad news first: THEY ALLOW PET DOGS ON TOP OF TABLES. DO YOU KNOW HOW GROSS AND UNSANITARY THAT IS?? DISGUSTING. I LOST MY APPETITE MID-MEAL. Good news: The restaurant looks clean considering they allow pet dogs to roam on top of the tables. Surrounded by wood and it has a natural aesthetic. The servers were attentive but still allowed someone's untrained rodent looking dog on top of tables. The food was fresh and good. Really enjoyed their spicy salmon hand roll. Surprised I didn't find a dog hair in it. read more
We made a same day reservation for dinner on a whim and we are glad we called ahead of time. For starters we had: * Creamy udon bulgogi- exactly what it says, creamy, slightly cheesy and rich, topped with shredded bulgogi and the udon was al dente. A good start and easy to have this as a meal as well. To be shared. * spicy tuna crunchy rice app- good but could be better. The yuzu sauce added more depth but the spicy tuna itself can lend more flavor. * Crab cream croquets- same breading as the tonkatsu, very very creamy filling, maybe too creamy as the crab meat wasn't really there it was more mush.. or to be optimistic, like creamy mashed potato. The wasabi sauce on the side was really good. And the presentation is pretty. * For maki: spicy tuna with crunchy rice ( additional $ for the crunchy rice), topped with tempura flakes, creamy scallops, and salmon with yuzu ikura. The best out of the trio was the salmon and yuzu ikura. The creamy scallops I feel were too chopped up that there wasn't any real texture to it. Spicy tuna was good. We tried the pork tonkatsu kimchi katsunabe, served atop a lit pedestal to keep it piping hot. The broth was not overpowering with the kimchi and was flavored just right. A good balance of heat and savory. Served with veggies and udon noodles. This can definitely be a shared dish. The pork cutlet to katsu curry with rice was rich and flavorful, the pork although fried was still light and crunchy. Service: our server I felt was harried, but he did get our orders and our food came in without any issues. We got our requests throughout the meal from the servers aiding the waiter. They were friendlier and smiled throughout. I feel like we could've had that extra oomph with service if our server was just a teeny bit friendlier and didn't make us feel that he was in a rush. Ambience was okay, we were seated at the area where the bar is so the lighting wasn't too cozy as the main dining room is. More like an afterthought to have more tables in. The main dining room looks gorgeous and fancier than the bar area. Restroom was clean. street parking, walkable streets with small shops to window shop. It was a nice evening out for dinner. read more
Hand rolls here are pretty good! Portions are small but I definitely recommend giving it a try here! My favorite handrolls were the spicy tuna and the avocado salmon. The seared prime beef and the A5 Wagyu were also to die for! Every bite melts in your mouth! The spicy tuna crispy rice was ok. The rice was not crispy enough. There was 4 pieces for $12. The salmon carpaccio was really good! Love the citrus sauce that came with this dish. There was 5 slices of salmon for $16. So it was a bit overpriced. Veggie udon was really good and flavorful! Really hit the spot on a cold rainy day! Parking is a bit difficult but that's the norm in Fort Lee. Overall, fish was pretty fresh but overpriced for the portions. read more
This is such a cute place that you could easily miss while driving around the area! All the dishes were really good and it was just a cute, warm ambiance here. Very good to come with parents, girls lunch, or even for a date! The hand rolls were a bit different from what I've tried at other restaurants and some of them threw me off with the overall flavors. Make sure to eat them first/early b/c the nori could get soggy if you wait. The crab kani cream croquette was so good with the sauce that it came with, and I would suggest just sharing bunch of dishes here! Would definitely come back if I am in the area :D read more

I visited here with a friend on Friday evening and didn't make a reservation ahead of time. It was pretty busy but we were able to get seated right away since it was only the two of us. However, I would recommend making a reservation beforehand if you have a larger group. I ordered the veggie udon and it was very refreshing! It came with a lot of different vegetables such as tofu, mushrooms, spinach, and more. I also ordered a 4PC handroll set and split it with my friend. I got the Spicy Salmon and Spicy Blue Crab. Both were delicious but I think I like the Spicy Blue Crab the most. Overall I would come back again and reorder both items that I got. The service was great and I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area looking for good Asian eats! read more
North Jersey date spot found! MORU is BYOB and has a ton of options for hand rolls, udons, rice, and more. I really liked the hand rolls here. The bulgogi udon was OK. The curry rice with katsu was good, nothing crazy special. The service was pretty good - but we were in the upstairs area and I think you get better service downstairs. I wanted to love MORU but I think I would give this meal a 3.5/5. Would love to try this place another time with friends as well. read more

A cozy vibe with lots of parties dining in! I also noticed a decent amount of takeouts/pickup orders. We got three dishes to share amongst three people - the server recommended ordering more but this was pretty filling! 1) Spicy tuna crispy rice - was definitely more rice than tuna, so this fell a little below my expectations 2) Hand roll set - soft shell crab, spicy scallop, spicy tuna, salmon; I really enjoyed the scallop hand roll! 3) Sukiyaki nabe - actually had more ingredients than expected: beef, various fish cakes, radish, carrot, rice cakes, bean sprouts I'd like to come again to try their other hand rolls, as that's their specialty! read more

For a nicer cozier restaurant in Jersey, this met our expectations. We enjoyed the miso soup, unagi don, and creamy scallop & salmon avocado handrolls the most. Of the sushi set, I think some were standouts but not all. Food was absolutely delicious. My cousin and I got the Moru Handroll set, Seafood Seiro Mushi, and Crab Kani Croquette. But because the hand rolls were so dang good, we ordered another roll each. The croquette was crunchy and it surprised us both that there were bits and pieces of crab with the kani. The taste was so flavorful. Rating the hand roll set in order, I enjoyed the soft shell crab, then the creamy scallop, then the spicy tuna, and then the salmon avocado (which was a surprise cause I love me my salmon). The Seafood Seiro Mushi was good but not as I expected. It was yummy and very authentic but it was pretty much just steamed food with no flavor. The pork belly and beef brisket was good without flavor and you can taste the deliciousness of the natural flavor. They gave sauce on the side (ponzu, red chili, and sesame) which helped. Waiters were exceptional. Always attentive and great with their recommendations. They were quick to put in our order and quick to notice we needed something. Ambiance is really nice. Very soft vibes and outside looking in was pretty. Would definitely come back. read more
