Recently they were a part of the #myatlon small business revolution. They were ready to close their doors which would have been a lose to downtown Alton. The food makes you feel as if you are in Ireland. I had the corned beef cabbage and mashed potatoes. Some how they have the potion sizes figured out where you get just even to fill your belly. Ordered a cheese burger, took an hour to receive it and it was almost inedible. The waiter was really sweet and worked hard for us but the food quality wasn't there. Good drinks tho. Wouldn't recommend the cheeseburger that's for sure read more

Such a cute and cozy pub with great decor and friendly staff. Their drink menu offered a good variety of creative cocktails, while their food menu offers authentic dishes featuring corned beef, cottage (Shepard's) pie, and cabbage. I highly recommend getting the Irish Soda Bread while you wait for your meal (I was pleasantly surprised by its sweetness). I tried the Bubble and Squeak to start and really enjoyed the creamy broth loaded with cabbage and ground beef. I also had the Bangers and Mash. While I thought the bangers were yummy, I was disappointed by the mash, which seemed almost watery and needed some salt. As for their Cottage Pie, I was expecting a more dense dish, like a customary Shepherd's Pie. There's was more of a stew almost, however, maybe that's how it is traditionally made. I'm excited that the owners chose to open up shop in Alton and add to the city's offerings. I hope that they find success and prosperity :) read more

Our first time. They have both gluten free and some vegetarian items. The waitress was sweet, but had to leave and came back later. She turned us over to another person. The service was pretty good even with the changes. So I had the cheese sandwich and it came with chips. I liked both. A really good sandwich. We shared the leek soup and it was ok, but I just was not crazy about some spice, so we left about half the bowl. The Guinness on tap was great! My wife had the potato pancake and she loved it. We also shared the buttery leeks and potatoes, both great. It was a fun place with people singing Irish songs. Check it out and see what you think. read more

Stopped into establishment with no expectations but just a different type of venue. Pleasantly surprised at the comfy cozy home feel. Staff was very outgoing and friendly. From the outside, this pub is unassuming, on a sleepy Main Street of a small town in Southern Illinois. Once you enter however, you're immediately greeted by some of the sweetest people you will ever meet. I stumbled upon this pub while in Alton on business. I'm very glad I did. The staff was amazing, and quite sociable, and the food was absolutely delicious. When I went, I had some of the most amazing beef stew I've ever tasted, complete with mash potatoes in the bottom of the cup and a corned beef sandwich that was to die for. Upon entering it was apparent that this was a charming place. We were greeting by a smiling bartender who told us to take a seat. Great beer selection, limited but fantastic Irish-inspired good menu. The dishes we ordered were hot and tastey. This is a smaller place, however, so when a ten-top walked in and sat behind us, it was a little tight. Was only in Alton for a short stay and had a lot of dining options, both chain and local. I found Morrison's on Yelp and decided to give it a try. WOW! Great atmosphere and even better food! Their beef stew was some of the best I ever had and their soda bread was to die for. I was only in town for three days, but I ate there every day. Really great and authentic. We've been to Ireland a couple of times and this place is a very close second. The things I felt were really on point - snug and cozy warm friendly atmosphere, piping hot quickly served delicious real (obviously some Irish imported ingredients) Irish comfort food, live music. Not anything bad I can say. The only non-authentic (besides no Irish accents) was the lack of numerous types of potatoes on one plate -- but no one wants that in the US anyway. Got to be my favorite bar in the Alton area. Family owned and run. They take care to know your name (even if they won't spell it right). They'll start your drink without asking when you walk in the door (I love that!). The food is excellent, served hot, quickly, and as you order it. Nice variety of imported Irish beers and a variety of local and regional small breweries on tap. Occasionally, they'll tap a keg of Killion's (Moulson-Coors) but only to help satisfy the big crowds around St. Paddy's and half-way there. Large variety of Irish whiskeys. read more

Our experience with the staff was very good-very friendly. The food....NOT good-at all. Boxty, a northern Irish potato pancake, is fried crisply with a tender inside. Our order of Boxty was served, and appeared to have barely glanced the fry pan and was cold and raw. The fish and chips, (bagged potato chips), were a disappointment as well. The batter was burnt and rock hard to flavorlessness. Irish stew-canned would have been an upgrade. Please note that most Irish do not cook with Guinness in the stew....Guinness is to be enjoyed alone as a compliment to the dish served. read more

I work right across the road and have been dying to try this place out. I'm happy to say it did not disappoint. Craving mashed potatoes, I went in determined on the cottage pie ( which was rich and phenomenal). Once there, Mary let me know about their specials including an Irishman burger which had corned beef on a massive burger with a mouthwatering dark pumpernickel bun. I've had a lot of corned beef in my life coming from an Irish family, this is one of the best! I had the two entrees to go and split with a coworker- we could have easily gotten by with only one. I'll be frequenting Morrison's in the future as well as bringing family and friends. The food was great, the atmosphere was authentic pub style, the staff was warm and inviting. I'm a big fan of Irish Pubs and I was very excited that one opened up in my town of Alton. Everything here is on a par with Tigin or John McGurks on the other side of the river. I greatly enjoyed the bangers and mash, great blend of sweet and savory and not too oniony like that dish can often be. My wife also enjoyed her beef stew and the whiskey and chocolate bread pudding was delicious. Their house red ale was nice but I'll probably go back to my standard Guiness on a repeat visit. All in all I think Morissons is an excellent addition to Altons downtown food and bar scene. I will absolutely return! read more

I will give it 1 star that's about it. This place doesn't make you feel at home, hell it doesn't even make you feel wanted. If you ain't a regular at this establishment forget about it! Lisa Morrison gives you the stink eye the whole time you are there, and if she's singled you out of the crowd for the evening, you ain't getting a drink. I was alone waiting for my friends to come in, who are regulars, I sat there for a full 10 mins and the bar was not crowded. Lisa kept giving me the stink eye, so clearly she knew I was there. A party of 5 came in, and she walked right passed me and then right over to them. After she served the party of 5, she came over and didn't speak a word, just glared at me. Maybe she needs a lesson in Customer service if they want to keep their doors open, but anyone willing to spend money at your establishment deserves at the very least acknowledgment of the staff let alone the OWNER OF THE FRIGGIN PLACE.
