Ham and cheese on pretzel bun
    Beth S.

This popular little destination serves up some tasty grub. We started with Bavarian pretzels and buffalo wings. Both were excellent. Then I got the ham and cheese sandwich on the pretzel bun. It was very good. I got the sweet potato fries with it. Also very good. It's a fun interior and gets both locals and tourists traveling Route 66. My one complaint - the quarter pound burger was quite tiny. It seemed way smaller than a quarter pound. It was like a toddler sized burger. But service was fantastic and it was a fun meal.

Stopped here for lunch on our Route 66 journey. We were not disappointed!! Awesome service. Really good burger and good beer. Cool vibe, old school neighborhood bar/restaurant vibe.

We are so glad we found weezys on route 66. It's a classic restaurant that serves burgers, blts, fried chicken well at least we tried those :) The fries are thin and crispy. Try a pretzel bun on any sandwich you order. My niece ordered one for her blt and it looked awesome! :) waitress was awesome but the wait was long.

On our way to Peoria my son asked if we could get something to eat. I pulled out my help app to see what was up the road. Ironically when I first seen it I thought it was Wendy's. We took the exit and parked behind the building. An old building with some character. We walked in and set at the bar. These are the old school mounted round seats with a red top that spin. Anytime I see those I expect some a great breakfast, just like grandma used to make. I order some standard bacon and eggs with a pancake that didn't disappoint. Great service while we were there. I rate it a five star because anytime I'm heading down 55 in the morning, you can bet I will seek this out to eat at again if time permits. Great little find off the interstate.

I'd really love to give this place a higher rating, but they just lack in a couple things. I will say Weezy's does highly recognize itself and its place on Old Route 66. Metal signs everywhere and they even have tourist information available (brochures, travel guides). It's an old place with not much parking, but luckily there's lots of it across the road. There is also a Route 66 marker (sponsored by an Illinois Route 66 group) located by that lot for enthusiasts. The service was great both times I've been here, and the bartenders/servers were very welcoming at the bar. The men's bathroom was very crappy, like it was old and not updated. Weezy's is more like a small-town gathering place, with locals as their regulars (who, by the way, I'll admit it were very loud). TVs everywhere, and they even have a big room for crowds and groups. Food was okay. On my most recent visit I had the fish sandwich and fries, and last summer I had the horseshoe. I wasn't blown away either time. The cheese on the horseshoe sandwich wasn't great. Fries are thin. Weezy's does have a decent menu, so maybe I just chose the wrong items? But if I do make it back here, I'll try something else. They have a selection of both domestic and craft beers. No, this place isn't run by Lil' Wayne (hope you get the joke here...).

Update: when I reviewed Weezy's a couple of years ago I gave them five stars. Nothing has changed. It's a great, fun, place to eat. The food is very good, the prices are good, the atmosphere is good, the staff and service was great. Although she did ask my companion if he was a serial killer. I'll admit he looks a little shady and I'm sure he made some smart remark that prompted it. If I lived close it would be a regular place for me. It's less than a mile off I-55. Check it out.

I dined on Route 66! This diner has been "Weezy's" for 8 years and was called something else prior to that, and it looks like it. Don't don't be distracted by the appearance. The staff are nice, polite and vey helpful and the food is very good, stick to your ribs Midwest favorites. I had the chicken tender with Ranch dressing along with sweet potato fries that were to die for. I am told by other Yelpers that the biscuits and gravy are amazing. I may need to return to "check their rating".

"Lunch special" An experience, complete with overdone, crispy hamburger patty slid between two smashed halves of a bun and brat on bread.

Visits in JUL-AUG-OCT 2025…read more We moved into town this summer. Our realtor provided gift certificate as a closing congratulations. After we came the first visit I wanted to take my time, have a few more visits before I wrote. My rating of 3 (okay) in this case think of it as an academic C, a passing grade but certainly room for improvement. Rooster's Pub is okay, the food is okay, the service is okay, it is clean. If you are looking for a bar food meal this is an okay place to choose. You can stop here, disregard the rest and make your choice. I suspect that Rooster's is popular locally (and has some high ratings) is familiarity, and a customer base that hasn't widely traveled, there is nothing wrong with that. I am comfortable saying that this place is also likely a good bar, for those interested in that environment. It is not quite for me (us) as a restaurant. We have only been during the lunch hours. I have never owned a bar or restaurant. I worked in them at various levels earlier in life. I acknowledge how tough it is to be a bar that also has standout food. In my experience that is rather rare. I know that when a bar does get that balance right, they have a limited menu. They make a few things and make them well. A full menu is always going to have to carry some amount of frozen "Sysco" things dropped into hot oil. Our meals, I have had two okay tenderloins and one burger, my wife two fish (slightly overdone) meals, and one burger. My wish is for continued success for Rooster's, it is a fine place for others. As currently functioning it is not a place for me. This is also okay if the oil is always fresh, and the cook is attentive and pulls things soon enough to guard color/texture and the cooking finishes during delivery to table. On another note it seems that in our 3 visits, things are cooked hard and fast but then sit in the window, cooling until delivered lukewarm and past that "golden moment". A few lines about the fries. People do like them, I however do not prefer house cut fries. I think the basic restaurant frozen fry, well executed, is an easy win. Our's have been dark and soggy on arrival. I did get the tots on the middle visit (better), had forgotten the fry defeciency and got them this last time. My wife, a Midwestern lover of all things potato, left nearly half of her order. Overall plating has been a bit haphazard, not expecting a cooking show, but I do appreciate something that arrives looking intentional. There just doesn't seem to be a level of care applied to the meals that have come to our table (a note on that at the end). We have only had the same two front of house workers. They are polite (maybe stiffly and overly so), they get the order right and they accomplish the mission. However is feels a bit like a "transaction", which I understand it is, the customers aren't your friend. I don't think it's just us, there doesn't seem to be any warmth with anyone that comes in (even what I presume are regulars). If there is a scale with annoyed that I exist on one end, and a warm hug on the other, the service here is much closer to the left hashmark. A final note about my meals here. If the gaps in execution are some message that I am not worthy of a best effort, or simply not welcome- message received.

We were headed to the airport and I searched for a 'diner like' place just off the interstate around an hour away. I came across Powhatan, and while the outside didn't look like much in the photos, the food looked great and the reviews were excellent. I bookmarked it, and sure enough it didn't disappoint. The outside is a basic restaurant attached to a hotel/motel. Think side of the road bare bones motel. Honestly, if I hadn't read the reviews I would have just kept on driving. Inside was very nice - not fancy but very bright, clean and welcoming. There was also a small slot machine area off to the side if that's your thing. I ordered the Pocahontas Pride, which was chicken friend steak, two eggs, hash brown casserole (I opted for plain hash browns) buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy. I think it was $15. And it was enough food for two people easily. Very good, and very filling. My daughter ordered boneless wings (I tried a couple since there was too much food for her) and she and I both loved them. I'm normally hesitant to order wings outside of my normal places, but she will order them anywhere and she gave them great praise. She also added 1/2 order of onion rings which were both great and ample - I thought they actually got the order wrong there were so many. Wife wasn't feeling well, so she ordered a simple order of hash browns and liked them. All in all, a great experience for a quick stop during a long drive. Again, without reading the reviews in advance, I doubt I would have ended up at Powhatan. But I'm glad I did!
