We enjoyed a Thanksgiving buffet and brunch here today. I am NOT a fan of buffet meals, especially on holidays! This is an exception to my judgment. We were greeted cordially at the entrance to the Loewe's Hotel. The restaurant employees were very cordial too. We started our visit by having a child throw a glass of water on a lobby couch but the staff fixed the problem. We then got seated for our buffet. Here's the gist of it, I didn't sit in the actual restaurant and I didn't try any of the food, just a drink at the bar. The bar has a different (way more limited menu) than the actual sit down restaurant. Keep in mind this is a hotel restaurant located inside the Loews right by Ballpark Village in downtown St Louis. I think my issue may have been that a cardinals game just ended because it was loud and rowdy. Not what I usually search for in a hotel bar that markets itself as quite classy. The service wasn't great either, it took quite long for any staff to notice me and for me to order my cocktail as well as collect my check. But, the drink itself was very good and I still would consider coming back since I'm always looking for new places that are walking distance to where I usually stay in downtown STL. I went with a smoked lemon drop ($18) the smokey touch of the lemon slice was very aromatic and cut through the sweetness of the drink. It was well balanced and easy to sip on, not usually the type of drink I go for but, I wanted to try something new and exciting. I would give a 3.5 stars if I could because even though my service wasn't great it seemed like the female bartenders were all being heckled by a group of very drunk guys who had just left the game so they were overwhelmed. The drink was nothing extraordinary for the price but it was an adequate sweet sipper that reminded me of spring/summer. Mark was our server and he was so friendly and attentive. He made me feel like a VIP! Bread service was delicious. I hadn't had a lot of bread with pepper, but it had just the right amount of kick to it. So warm and poofy. The butter may have been on the harder side but it immediately melted perfectly on the bread. I ordered a burger that was so filling. I didn't even eat half because there was so much! Took a quick trip to St. Louis for work, stopped here for happy hour and it was a good look! Loved the bar area, indoor and outdoor. Started with the Gold Rush cocktail and a couple of appetizers - cheese curds and I believe it was a smoked fish dip. Both very good! A huge thank you to Ashlynne the bartender. At one point, the bar got very busy, she was the only knowledgeable bartender behind the bar. She was over worked and overwhelmed with no help. I believe a member of the front desk staff tried to help her, but it just slowed her down. Some of the bar patrons were extremely rude to her, which killed me to hear and see. She held her own, took time to walk away and take a breather. I commend her for that. Her service to us was great and she thanked us for acknowledging her and just saying "hello" to her when we sat down. Once she came back, some of the bar patrons clapped for her, which was extremely rude, but she kept her calm and stayed professional. No matter if it's for Valentines Day, a solo date, or a girls night out, Clark and Bourbon has got you covered! Between my first week in nursing and my brother having a rough week as well, I decided a sister-brother night out was what we both needed and was long overdue. We started off with lamb empanadas with an aji amarillo aioli (these were James' favorite of the night!), followed closely by the 'oyster lobsterfeller'. This was an appetizer consisting of oysters with lobster, creamed spinach, bacon, beer, and grana padano cheese. This was James and I's first time trying oysters and all we could say was 'wow'! Next up, for the entree we got the Delmonico Ribeye, steakhouse mashed potatoes with bone marrow and mushrooms (my favorite), and the U10 scallops. Scallops were also new for us and James described them as, "if chicken and a sweet cloud had a baby" As soon as we thought we were too full for anything else, a warm fresh gooey butter cake with vanilla bean ice cream, strawberry purée, and pistachio crumbles came out and, to make a long story short, it didn't last long. (We may or may not have ordered a carrot cake for home too) While the food was absolutely divine, the great staff made the whole night one to remember. We went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We had reservations. This appears to be a popular spot for people to hangout post sport games as it is conveniently located in the Ball park village area. They have a nice lounge with large displays to watch the games. They also have a bourbon tasting room for private parties. For drinks, we had the Clark & Bourbon old fashioned and an espresso martini. Both drinks were good. We had the shrimp maque choux & the oysters as appetizers. The choux had eally good flavors. The oysters were fresh as well. For the main course, we had the Delmonico ribeye and the true north salmon. The salmon was well made and charred to perfection. I was here for a large party event. We had reserved The Whiskey room for a more private space. The room is spacious and fits 12 people comfortably. It is very impressive with whiskey and bourbon lining the walls. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about what was in the room. That is the good. Since we were in The Whiskey room other servers came in and out all evening getting bottles for other customer. So if you are looking for a private space just know multiple people come and go. A few people at our table had ordered 3 different pours and they were out of all that were ordered. So they all had to make another selection. I found the menu to be rather small and they were out of several food items as well. The only non meat entree is a salmon dish that was disappointing, it was extremely over cooked and had no flavor. For being a high dollar restaurant all the food lacked the gourmet feel. A lot of items on the menu I could make at home. No creativity with the dishes and nothing I haven't seen at 100 other restaurants. Some people in our party had steak and they said it was good but not great nothing stood out. Sides are meant to be served family style. However the portions are rather small. Mac and cheese was good just small portions. For being there on a slow Tuesday evening, our food took over an hour. Stayed a few nights in Loews hotel. Decided to try the hotel restaurant after being encouraged multiple times to do so from front desk. You have to call front desk to make order. Major hassle. Took 45 minutes to get anyone to answer the phone to make order, then another 45 to get our food. My husband and I shared an order of steak sandwich and bourbon burger. Am I crazy for thinking a restaurant of this price point could use fresh potatoes? I ordered a dirty Martini, was not asked gin or vodka and got basically a glass of Tito's vodka with a hint of olive brine. It was gross. Our server was kind and attentive, food didn't take long, managers were present. It was fine overall. This review may come across as snobby, but there are better places to go for a special occasion dinner, especially if you're local. But in their defense, it's a hotel restaurant in ballpark village. In short, Clark & Bourbon is a great choice if you're in town for a summer game, but you don't want the rowdy, drunken events that often come with it. That being said, you're paying for the location and ambiance; expect inflated prices. Here are a few of the dishes my friends and I have tried: BRUSSELS: Great, charred and lightly seasoned. OYSTERS: Love freshly shucked oysters! Depending on your cook/time of year, they may come adorned with flower pedals, but almost always come with mignonette. SALAD: 1) You're getting half a head of lettuce (see picture) for their Wedge; love the addition of picked red onion. 2) The beet salad comes with four cubes of oven roasted beets next to a small offering of greens and garnish. 3) Simple caesar is exactly as it sounds; lettuce, croutons, Parm., and dressing for $12? WINGS: This is not a wing place. Don't give me a fried fresh feel and the choices between Korean BBQ and traditional buffalo sauce are unexciting. SHRIMP DE JONGHE: My friend from the mountain states had never heard of this regional dish, so we jumped in on an appetizer night only to find it was more of an "interpretation". Three colossal tail-on shrimp with lightly dusted with breadcrumbs, butter, and some seasoning. If you like the traditional Shrimp de Jonghe, this is not for you. Disappointing Dining Experience at Clark & Bourbon I recently dined at Clark & Bourbon with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was far from what I hoped for. The ambiance and service were great, but the food was a major letdown. For some reason everything was dry or either overcooked. We had the "brisket empanadas" as a starter and they were so overcooked we could barely eat them we had to cover them in sauce! My husbands steak, which he ordered medium, came out and just looked very odd it didn't have the taste or the texture you would expect from a steakhouse of this caliber! The burger, which I did order fully cooked, came out dry, and lacking any of the juice or flavor it literally tasted like paper! I was told it was because it was grilled which is why it was so dry. We had the pork steak and that also had to be sent back it didn't even resemble a pork steak It was tough and unappetizing, more akin to rubberthan a well-prepared cut of meat. The vegetables didn't fare much better. The vegetables were so salty to the point you could barely eat the potatoes, and the overall presentation of the dishes lacked the finesse you'd expect given the restaurant's reputation. For the price point, the quality of the meal was severely lacking. It's disappointing to leave a restaurant feeling unsatisfied, especially when you're paying a premium for what's supposed to be a top-tier dining experience. Sadly, I won't be returning anytime soon. I really wanted to have a better experience with this restaurant. We got there half an hour before they closed but I still expected better service and food for the high prices they are charging. The waitress was nice, but the service was really slow even though we were the only ones left in the restaurant. And it's so weird but the food didn't have any flavor. The carrots and mushrooms were overly buttered or oily (not sure) but simply tasted like raw carrots and mushrooms. The fried Cornish hen had no flavor to it, the salmon was overly cooked and dry with the crust too salty. The only things that had any flavor were the chicken wings and greens. Dinner cost us $200 plus tip and we left really disappointed. A very yummy hotel restaurant. I have a really cool gas fireplace in there high top tables, low top tables they got a little couch section because it is part of a hotel. The bartenders are really great. The cocktails are mixed wonderfully, and the food is also very good. We got the tuna tartare, a charcuterie, board, some french fries, and a couple other items to share, and they were all very yummy. This place definitely does give more upscale fives and the price is sort of reflect that but it is a nice hotel and makes you feel kind of fancy! You gotta check this place out for dinner sometime never really cool patio to that's right across the street from Busch Stadium so it might be a good place to pregame a baseball match. read more

The short rib pasta was pretty good, but could've used more salt and flavor. The ribeye was cooked fine, but also lacked flavor. The steakhouse mashed potatoes were by far the best mashed potatoes I've ever eaten out. Creamy, velvety, flavorful, rich. The bone marrow really leveled up this dish. Now, we ended with the ooey gooey butter cake. When I first seen it, I thought it looked dry and bland. OH MY GOODNESS!! It was soft, buttery, and truly lived up to its ooey gooey name. Walp, I'm going to have to dock a star. First off, it's complicated to try to make a reservation for 8 or more people. It was 4-5 days of back and forth phone calls just to get information. They will not reserve this size table (10 people) in the main dining area. There is the private Whiskey Room, which is perfect, but has a minimum $750 required. Note that every time I've been here, that room is empty so it's not like it's a huge demand. My problem is that 8 adults (2 who can't drink) + 2 toddlers will likely not spend $750 minimum. Now granted, some of the higher end options are gonna cost you, but at least you can say you did it. They have patio and inside options available for seating. Wings... get them!! The Buffalo and the Korean are both awesome and they the blue cheese and ranch were great accompaniments for dipping. Saved me a bottle purchase to try it. They had a Weller FP barrel pick out for $65, which is is a lot for a single pour but so hard to find it might be worth it for some. And, the hummus plate with tri-tip steak and roasted vegetables? THIS may be the greatest appetizer for drinking ever conceived!!
