Mint tea
Cheyenne T.

A very small (3 tables) eatery with delicious Moroccan food. We came because of the "where do Moroccan people go when they're homesick and hungry vid". There were limited options and the couscous items are only available on certain days so we couldn't try. The items we did try were delicious! The chicken pastilla was like a chicken baklava lol. The top was sweet like a dessert so if you don't like salty sweet food this may not be for you. The lamb was fall off the bone. Not gaimy and very flavorful. The mint tea was great to balance everything out. I'd def come back to try the other items! Want to note that it's not quite a sit down restaurant and more like a bakery or deli with seats.

Moroccan Bites is one of the most exciting North African eateries in the city and also one of the most pleasant locales for an afternoon cup of tea near Steinway. I came here primarily to try the msemen, similar to other North African flatbreads like Tunisian mlewi, but served sweet with butter and honey. It paired excellently with a cup of the mint tea, which the owner was kind enough to serve for us in the typical "pulled" fashion to aerate the tea. We ordered the vegetarian kosksi (couscous) to go, which was served with a spice-infused brown butter sauce and was absolutely excellent. For good measure, we added the seffa, a subtle and delicate sweet vermicelli-based dish with cinnamon, not dissimilar to couscous-based masfouf.

The food and the service here were amazing. The family who ran this mom and pop shop were so friendly and nice. I got the chicken pastilla and the lamb tajine. I definitely want to come back and try the couscous, I heard great things about it!

We had a company lunch catering by Moroccan Bites by Siham. We ordered lamb shanks, chicken, rice and couscous with veggie/beef. Everything was so delicious. I wish I had a bigger stomach. The food was visually and physically satisfying. Lamb was very tender. It pulled apart when you picked it up. It was marinated and cooked with apricots and prunes. I never knew they go so well together. Couscous was light as clouds. Vegetables and beef were soft and flavorful. Chickens were roasted with skin. Brown glazed skin on top and juicy in the meat. I had a thigh piece. Wonderful cut. Meat was very fresh. The rice was also cooked with many different ingredients with chopped green/red peppers, moist yet light. It is a family owned restaurant. They are nice and friendly. Very helpful. Definitely authentic Moroccan food. The restaurant has great cultural decorations. They also have many desserts options.

Great food, great surroundings, friendly and pleasant staff. Authentic, yet modern. Great relatively limited menu that is clear and helpful.

Absolutely loved coming to Moroccan Bites! Shoukran bzzf your restaurant is Authentic Moroccan dishes that bring me home to Maghreb! What a beautiful new space as well I love the simple yet exquisite Moroccan designs! It was such a beautiful Iftar with my cousin and I cannot wait to come back for Rfissa Insha'Allah If you visit here, you will love it all Bess7a!

I had an exceptional experience at Moroccan Bite by Siham. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm, elegant, and authentically Moroccan. The décor, the music, and the welcoming energy make you feel like you've stepped into a beautiful home in Morocco rather than just a restaurant. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every dish was full of rich, authentic flavors and clearly made with care and high-quality ingredients. You can taste the tradition in every bite -- perfectly balanced spices, beautifully presented plates, and portions that are both generous and satisfying. It's rare to find Moroccan cuisine done this well. What truly made the experience special was the hospitality. The service was attentive, kind, and genuinely welcoming, making the entire evening feel personal and memorable. Moroccan Bite by Siham is truly a gem. If you want authentic Moroccan food, a beautiful atmosphere, and a dining experience that feels special from beginning to end, this is the place. I will absolutely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for one of the best Moroccan dining experiences around. Fatima

The chicken was all gone so I went with lamb and the beef tagines. Ordered a variety of things and it was great. It was a quite the wait to get to ordering and also serving, maybe 45 minutes? But the food was delicious and will definitely be on the radar for next time we're back ! Got a $100 parking ticket so that wasn't fun ending to the meal

With the owner, Ms.Ms. Siham

I went to this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday afternoon and I had a really delicious lunch. Portions were generous and everything was authentic and tasty. I had the Harira soup followed by beef couscous. I met the owners when they came out to check on the customers. I highly recommend this restaurant. The decor was pleasant and very Moroccan.

If you're looking for traditional Moroccan dishes, this the place to go! Great food, clean and nice atmosphere. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Mint tea

We came here for the gazelle horns cookies, and ordered dinner as well. The lamb tangia was flavorful, and the fish is tender. The fish is good for anyone to enjoy, even those whose teeth cannot manage chewing too much meat. The lamb is served on the bone. The gazelle horns are as authentic as they could be. I'm very glad I found these in NY. The mint tea smells better than it tastes, but the presentation is impressive. The service is a little slow, but they try to do their best on a weekend evening. If they can turn down their music a bit, it would have been perfect.

Came here today for Iftar. Everything was good the service, food and Siham is such a great women welcoming people very sweet and successful, I used to go to her old location she always been very friendly. I highly recommend Moroccan bites by Siham. Also the decoration of her restaurant is just an example of Moroccan culture.

Lamb tagia and chicken tagine

Dar Lbahja - Lamb Tajine/Tagine With Prunes. $22. Very tasty

I'd get it again. The lamb tagine was even better though - slightly more sweet but still not really. Such tender lamb that my friend who hates lamb couldn't resist taking bites. I'd get this again too. We also got the beef tagine, which is also very tender and has tons of green peas. The sauce is very savory and comforting, so somewhat boring to me. You get a side of rice (yellow seasoned rice) or bread (comes hot), and I recommend the bread. I was tempted by dessert, so really the food was not too sweet if that's any indicator. I do want to come back next time.

Recommendations- Bastilla/Pastilla, Tagines, Zaalouk. Grilled platters are alright. On a side note, some dishes, similar to other Moroccan places, such as couscous, are only available on weekends. As per many of my recent reviews, I was at this Moroccan spot a good while ago, with our host having heard about it prior to the place being featured in the NYT Top 100 as well as on TasteBuds, a highly recommended Instagram/TikTok account. The woman who helped us, whom I believe was one of the owners, was very friendly, and the place inside was casual and decently busy, especially for how far away it is from the subway. The food was overall very tasty, with a particularly good bastilla/pastilla, among everything else, and I can see why this restaurant has gotten so much publicity. My preference of the two appetizers was the $7.99 Zaalouk, or eggplant cooked in tomato sauce and marinated with charmoula. The dish reminded me a bit of Egyptian-style moussaka due to the mix, though less tomato-focused and more about the sweet eggplant. The chermoula was very light, with a hint of sourness and spice. Overall, this was delicious, especially with the bread. The other appetizer was the Moroccan Carrot for $6, which was a mix of sliced carrots with a spicy chermoula. Of everything we ordered, this was the least favorite dish of the night, as the cold carrots lacked much flavor, as there was a lack of chermoula flavor, just like with the eggplant. Best of the dishes was the $12.99 Chicken Bastilla, or Pastilla, listed as a traditional Moroccan pie stuffed with chicken strips, crushed almonds, and dusted with icing sugar and cinnamon. A lot of people might find this sweet and savory combination odd, but I have gotten used to it, and this was a very good version. The chicken was well-spiced, the pie was flaky, and it wasn't overly sweet. The previous place, which had the best version, was the long-closed La Shuk in Harlem, and this is better, though I do want to compare it to the other popular Moroccan spot in Astoria, Siham. Second favorite was the Lamb Tajine, or Tagine, With Prunes for $22, consisting of slow cooked meat with prunes, dried apricots, roasted almonds, and sesame, and served with rice. The lamb inside was very tender and fell off the bone. I liked the roasted almonds and sesame as the bit of nuttiness helped with the overall sweetness of the dish. We also liked this dish, and it paired particularly well with the rice. My preference from the grilled section was the $16.99 Merguez, listed as Moroccan merguez grilled over charcoal, and served with rice. The dish came with many pieces of sausage, which had a slight spicy kick and a bit of a snap. For the same price, there was also the Grilled Lamb, or tender lamb with a choice of rice or fries. The lamb was pretty flavorful, but some pieces were a bit overcooked. It was good, though, but not as notable. The fries on the side were a mixed bag, with some being crispy and some a bit soft, so between the two, I would recommend the rice more. While I didn't love the grilled platters, the rest of the dishes were delicious. Combine that with the friendly service, and we had a very good time. I wouldn't mind going back and trying again, though this might also be because I want to have more of their bastilla.

This is a unique restaurant where the owner verbally tells you the menu and then asks you what you want. We got the Hummus, Cauliflower, and Koshary between 2 people, which gave us enough for leftovers the next day. The owner tells you what is available, and you choose, and then he cooks and serves you. The process is not quick, but we were a family group of five and enjoyed examining the dense decorations of our surroundings while we waited for the delicious food. Our meal included an outstanding beet salad, cauliflower in pomegranate sauce, foul (mashed fava beans with vegetables), lamb shank, lamb tagine, fish in a clay pot, and koshary (a mixture of chickpeas, macaroni, rice, and tomato). Everything was so good, and portions were generous so that there was a good deal left to take home. We would absolutely return and recommend.

The weather was pretty nice, and we had to wait a bit for an outdoor table since we were walk ins. We started with the seasonal mule with passion fruit. It was balanced and refreshing, though pretty similar to most mules. I also had the Vogue, which was so good. The guava was subtle and paired surprisingly well with the pistachio. For an app, we had the halloumi fries. They were really good, especially if you're a halloumi fan, but the portion was on the smaller side. If you're sharing with a group, I'd order more than one. I had the Turkish eggs and loved how well seasoned they were. The staff was kind enough to let me swap the bread for their biscuits, which I had heard great things about. Definitely worth trying! My partner had the Chicken Not Waffles, and I stole some of his cinnamon butter for my biscuit. So good! I also tried his pancake and really liked that too. The staff was incredibly nice to our pup, which I really appreciated, especially since she can be a little overly friendly. They brought her a big bowl of water and seemed genuinely happy to have her there. We really enjoyed our brunch. Between the food and how welcoming the staff was to our pup, I'd definitely come back!

We started with the basket of biscuits with blueberry compote, which seemed to be one of the most popular items featured in all the viral videos. I really wanted to love them, but I was honestly disappointed. The biscuits didn't taste fresh and were kind of tough, while the blueberry compote was bland and not sweet at all. Overall, there just wasn't much flavor. The coffee was just okay, and after the biscuits, we decided to leave and try another spot down the street rather than risk being disappointed with the rest of the menu. That said, the service was great. We were able to get a table right away without a reservation, and our waitress was super nice and welcoming. Our food also came out quickly. Maybe we just caught them on an off day, but based on our experience, I personally wouldn't come back for the food. Unfortunately, the TikTok hype didn't match our experience.
