This sushi spot deserves to be in the rafters of epic Seattle sushi restaurants. The sushi chef, Richard, and his wife were nice as could be. Richard is second to the sushi. Sushi was a 12/10, while Richard was just a 10/10. Richard is elite. Moriyama is elite. S&F

Nigiri Omakase ($62)

Firstly, let me state for the record that I'm obsessed with this place. I came here on a whim and never left. It's a cute little restaurant that serves sushi at a very fair price. At this price point, it won't blow your socks off, but it also won't cost you an arm and a leg. I've taken many people to this place now and everyone leaves happy. I've come here over a dozen times and always get the same thing. Nigiri omakase, sake, and beer. At ~$62 the omakase value is absurdly good. The sake bottles are very fairly priced compared to other restaurants, and the beer is crisp & cold. This is the place you go to when you are suddenly in the mood for sushi and don't want to deal with reservations or breaking the bank. The service is attentive and the vibe is chill.

The sushi was well made and packaged and very tasty. The ingredients were of strong quality and everything was prepared fresh. We got take out but would definitely come back to eat in. The service was great and it has some really lovely traditional decor. Very warm and relaxing space.

My friend and I were craving sushi on a Thursday. Glad we found a newish sushi place to explore. We arrived around 11:40am, and the restaurant was fairly empty without any wait. There are bento box choices, but we wanted to have some rolls. We had Salmon lemon roll, East lake roll, snow crab California futo maki, and mixed veggie roll. My favorite was salmon lemon roll. The subtle citrus flavor really complemented the salmon well. That being said, the sushi were good but not the best I had. The ambiance is pleasant with clean interior. It was about $70 for the 2 of us. I would return to try out the bento boxes.

Fantastic find in Eastlake! This small but cozy Japanese eatery boats a large selection of maki rolls, as well as unique appetizer bites such as the candied sushi, which were nigiri pieces topped with scallop and salmon that are torched to perfection with a sweet tinge. I also really enjoy oysters so I tried the oyster shooter, a delicious mixture of a tarte spicy shot with a quail egg yolk that isn't too dense that is offset by the neutralizing brine of the oyster once you bite into it, such a unique experience! I also had to try the Matcha Kyoto IPA, which was such a unique experience that starts off with a mild kick of an IPA that is quickly followed by the sweet bitter aftertaste of matcha. Of course the IPA is densely green and so cool! Lastly their lava rolls is so delicately torched that the spicy mayo on top almost looks like burnt cheese but tastes so so good! Highly recommend checking out this spot, if not for the unique dishes, homey atmosphere, then also for the very friendly staff who remembered my table when I had to call in after forgetting something at the restaurant.

Nigiri Moriawase for two

We were craving sushi and happened to walk past this restaurant. It was peak hours (~7:30 on a friday night) but we still managed to get seated right away. The waitress was very friendly and helpful! We ordered the Moriawase for two which was a big plate of nigiri. The fish was not bad but also not exceptional. I'm not sure it's worth the pricing, but I was starving and it really hit the spot! It came with miso soup as well which is a nice plus. The matcha beer was a super cool experience! The bitter matcha pairs with the IPA very well, I would definitely recommend this to beer and matcha enjoyers. The sushi candy was really yummy -- seared salmon and scallop with a yummy sauce on top -- but I'm not sure it's worth $13 for two pieces. Overall I had a good time at this cozy sushi restaurant, I'd love to come again to try their happy hour!

Cute little sushi place in Seattle. The restaurant is small but very well decorated and very cozy. The sushi rolls were very fresh and unique, but I just wasn't a huge fan of the rolls we got, as the citrus overpowered the flavors.

A hidden gem in Eastlake! I've been going to Moriyama for happy hour since I moved to the neighborhood two years ago. The staff is friendly and offers excellent service. The restaurant itself is very clean with a minimalistic design. The sushi is reasonably priced and high quality. I always get the sushi candy (torched salmon and scallop) along with a few happy hour plates. They offer more traditional rolls and some creative rolls too. Moriyama is one of my favorite sushi spots in the city and stepping in here reminds me of Japan.

I really appreciated the variety and uniqueness of their menu here, especially the starters and signature sashimi. Our highlights were scallop-uni with yuzu sesame and seared salmon with truffle ponzu but other dishes we ordered were also good and there were so many more on the menu I'd like to try so definitely will be returning! Efficient service and attentive staff. Clean & minimalistic ambiance. Highly recommended!

Came by Moriyama for happy hour and got the nigiri happy hour platter and the torolicious roll. We enjoyed the freshness of the sashimi in all of our dishes, and the torolicious packed a good yuzu punch that went really well with Wasabi. That being said, we thought both the nigiri and roll pieces were pretty small... which might explain its affordability compared to other places. There were enough seats on a Friday and the ambiance was cozy, modern Japanese. We were even treated by the chef to an appetizer of cucumber and roe! All in all, 5 stars for good, well-priced sushi in Seattle.

Regular chirashi mix and match bento box

We stopped by Moriyama Sushi while visiting Seattle and it was definitely a great quick sushi spot for lunch! We came about an hour before closing their lunch service, but they were very accommodating and kind! They're located in East Lake so they're mostly surrounded by apartments and some medical affiliated businesses. It was primarily street parking, but parking was pretty easy to find! When you walk in, you'll notice it's not too big but also not a small restaurant. It had a mix of a modern but cozy Japanese influenced interior with both tables and bar seating. The server who helped us was so sweet and always checked in on us! I came with my boyfriend and we both got the Mix and Match Bento Box and Japanese Ceviche to share. The mix and match bento was definitely a great value meal. We got the chirashi regular and it also came with your choice of a California roll or spicy tuna and seaweed salad or squid salad. The chirashi was super fresh and they gave you a good portion for a bento box! The Japanese Ceviche was definitely the most unique of everything we ordered! It was super fresh and I liked how they had this wasabi, lime, jalapeno sauce drizzled over it that added an additional zesty element to it! Don't expect this to taste like traditional ceviche, but this is still a great dish in my opinion! Overall, I highly recommend checking out Moriyama Sushi! Great spot to go to for a casual lunch in a lovely area.

I was on the lookout for a new sushi spot to try since the last one I went to yesterday missed the mark for me and Moriyama didn't disappoint. Parking wasn't hard either considering it is located in East Lake. Coming in, it felt really new just because of how clean the restaurant looked. It also was a cozier vibe than other places because it's not too big. I really liked interior overall. We sat at the sushi bar and the server and sushi chefs were pretty nice. I chose to sit at the sushi bar to see them make our sashimi. We came during happy hour which is 5-6pm! I believe we ordered the special sashimi set A & B. All the fish tasted fresh and all of them came in it's own sauce or other things on top that compliment the fish really nicely. Personally, I think the fish was good and flavorful but the sushi rice we got, some of the pieces were hard so I was surprised about that but otherwise I really enjoyed my first visit here!

My local friends recommended we come here for some authentic Japanese food while we were visiting…read more We texted ahead to reserve a table for 5 since it is a popular place. They don't take phone calls or reservations online - very old school. Which I think makes it more desirable. We ended up getting a special room with a "chabudai" style table! I was super excited because I've never experienced it before. What I did find pleasant was that although it was a lower table, there was an opening beneath the table that allowed your legs to hang rather than having to sit Indian style. Tyson was an amazing server. Was attentive, accommodated our allergies and was thoughtful with us having a young child. He was so pleasant and polite! We enjoyed the following: Baked miso glazed eggplant - YUM and melts in your mouth. Black Miso Cod Collar - this was pleasantly surprising and so delicious. Eat bite was tender and flavorful. Simple yet so appetizing. Sushi rolls were both fresh and well prepared. The nigiri was also great and fresh- not fishy. We additionally ordered takoyaki - which I normally don't love but this one was very tasty and I enjoyed the texture. Lastly karage chicken which came with a creamy slaw. Overall it was such a pleasant experience and we look forward to coming back!

Great portions of omelette and protein! Rice is very fluffy and beds the curry perfectly. I tried this to go for the very first time, and it worked really well as well. I would recommend getting the Hamburg for to go, as katsu don't hit the same as eating freshly deep fried. But the Hamburg is also what I order when I eat in. Portions are rather large, so with kids, I split one large size and I add extra protein. We do katsu and hamburg. Very very very delicious! Always recommend. Decent portions of rice lathered in sweet curry with the protein of your choice - not too shabby. A bit pricey in my opinion, but it does scratch that itch. My wife and I ordered both the pork and chicken cutlets with the curry and rice. Presentation of the food was on point, and there's enough for both the rice partnership and the cutlets for dipping purposes. The sweet and warm Japanese curry felt like a welcomed hug on a cold and brisk May afternoon. The biggest complaint was actually the cutlets - despite a nice crunch to it, something felt a little off. Like the cutlets were a bit old or were previously reheated or something. I had to drench each slice with curry to fully enjoy the meal. At the end of the day, two regular-sized curry dishes actually made us quite full and content. We left feeling stuffed and warm - the perfect combination for a chilly spring day. I would say this was a bit pricey for my liking, but what isn't pricey these days in this economy? Solid 4 stars!

I want to clarify that I rate places based on how they compare to other similarly priced places,…read morenot necessarily compared to all other restaurants. For what this place is, I think it's great! The prices are really good considering all that you get and the quality of sushi is pretty good considering the price as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see their combos come with additional appetizers like the agadashi tofu, the salad with dressing choices, and miso soup. The chicken katsu definitely had more meat and a thinner layer of breading as an FYI. I ordered the sushi combo for 38 dollars and got great tasting sushi for that price. Overall, I'd recommend this place if you want somewhere casual with good options and little extra items mixed in with your meals. It's definitely not like Umi, or Shirros but you're also paying like 1/3 to 1/2 the price. I definitely see myself returning when I want a quick or convenient bite to eat (it's one block from my home).
