    Gluten free errrrything!
    Jessica J.

After MANY recommendations to check out this new spot, I was finally in the neighborhood so I just could not pass it up! For someone who has a few dietary restrictions, and tries to avoid gluten, Mor is the place to be. Their tagline is literally "redefining gluten free," and dang does that ring true. I love the location; the old (but updated) warehouse on 1st street. The atmosphere is rustic and offers great vibes for a bakery/cafe. Right away I was greeted by the kindest of employees who talked me through the many menu options. From teas, baked goods and chili, they have an array of yummy options, all gluten free and many also free of other common avoidances (i.e. egg and dairy). I ordered myself a coconut milk latte and certainly couldn't pass up a bakery item, so I went for the vegan nutty bar. It didn't take long for me to finish because it was as delicious as it sounds. The cafe itself is a good size, offering plenty of spaces to sit and hang out. I enjoyed my treats while posting up on my laptop to get some work done. Now, I just need to plan my return so I can try some of the other goodies on display. Lemon Lavender Bars!? I think yes.

Detour I read about this bakery opening and decided to check it out. First off, I was hesitant because I hate the whole 1st Street bridge construction detour. Let me tell you, it's not a big deal and well worth the extra 15 seconds. I sampled a few of the offerings - banana bread and one of the bars. Both had excellent flavor. You can tell that a lot of effort was put into coming up with product that's GF yet still yummy. I ended up purchasing a few brownies and grandma bars. Service was quick and friendly. I'm not a coffee drinker but they have a nice selection of drinks and Anodyne coffee. If you've tried one of the other GF bakeries in town and were as disappointed as I was by their offerings you will be so delighted with MOR. I will definitely be back.

Yes! Please! My first experience with the gf life was a packaged bagel from a grocery store. It made me wonder if my life would be eating gruel like Matrix food. Started googling GF Mke and was pleasantly surprised to discover Mor- I must admit my first and only order (a week ago) I got crazy and blew up my budget...but no regrets The shortbread cookies are delicious, the brownie was fudge delight (although I prefer more of a cakey) but hey it's still delicious Haven't tried the coffee cake yet but I'm sure it's going to be delicious

This is the best gluten free cafe in Milwaukee and hence the baked goods don't taste very good. However, the coffee is great, it's a sunny friendly location with free WiFi so if you need to have a cup of coffee with a friend with Celiac Disease, then this is your one and only choice. They also have vegan baked...I'm not sure I like the word, goods, after these adjectives, but again, if you want to have a cup of coffee with a vegan friend, this is a very good choice. If you're a fat guy and need a place to have some coffee and not be tempted by tasty fattening wheat flour pastries, this is also a very good choice. These baked goods are absolutely not tempting.

The employees were so willing to answer my questions and share suggestions. Such a nice, sunny space that would be great to read, play cribbage, or work on a laptop. I've only had the egg bake (which was super delicious)... but am definitely looking forward to trying their other bakery items too. Everything is super reasonably priced!!

All kind of delectable items, even Almost Elvis cake with peanut banana frosting

Wow stellar place for those seeking specialty bakery due to food allergies. Items are cleverly identifiable with their components. Delicious breakfast entrees, along with great soups, shareable sweets makes this our weekly go to for coffee and conversation. My daughter in law has a gluten allergy so she anxiously awaited their opening. We have become regulars to try to work our way through the sweet ever changing items. This week featured Almost Elvis banana cake with peanut butter icing and chocolate. Cookies, scones, cinnamon rolls, and special seasonal items are still waiting for us to savor. Staff is excellent, attentive and customer service oriented. Coffee is delicious and a variety of teas are also available along with specialty coffee drinks.

    Any gluten free cream puffs?

Not currently. There may be some special items such as cream puffs, closer to New Years.

Is this new business handicapped accessible? I see a flight of stairs in the pictures.

There is an ADA/handicap ramp (south of our space) being built for the building, it hasn’t been completed yet. The ETA for the ramp and doorway is later this fall barring any complications.

The waitstaff will walk you through how that works your first time. We started with some of the taste & share plates - showing off WI cheese to the out of towners - and then a few people shared some gnocchi and beef tartare while a couple people got burgers. We had maybe 4 bites leftover, and no room for dessert, it was a personal victory. I'm sad I didn't get photos because I love the feel of each unique area that's here. The restaurant is bigger than you think because it's subdivided into smaller rooms. We had a group of 7 for a work event (which meant I kept my phone put away) and were in a cozy little nook in the back by ourselves, I'd never even noticed this little spot. What a fantastic time we had!

At that time we were easily seated in the main dining area, but there were quite a few full tables already seated. Our service was excellent and friendly, thanks to Elly. The main dining room is not large. It remains fairly cozy and seating spills over to high top tables in the liquor store area, but no one was seated there during our visit. We started with the twin mushroom handpies - Local Mushroom Duxelles, Shredded Saxony and Montamoré, Sherry Syrup, Thyme Almond Gremolata. They took a long time to come out from the kitchen, which was understandable since they were baked in house, but they were still a little raw on top. Nonetheless, they were the best bite I had all evening. I had the Root Vegetable Agnolotti - Black Garlic Pasta, Sweet Potato And Ricotta, Celery Root Soubise, Toasted pine Nuts, Crispy Parsnip and Sage, Basil Oil. It was interesting and I enjoyed trying it, but I wasn't blown away. The sauce was thick and the filling was similar in texture and the overall effect was kind of muddy and smushy. It was helped by all the toppings, but this wasn't a home run. BF had the Tuesday burger special, in this case a Bacon Barbecue - Prime beef, coffee BBQ, crispy onion strings. He enjoyed it quite a bit and said the barbecue sauce was not too overwhelming. It was a big burger and quite filling. I had a Manhattan and a glass of wine - both of which were very good. They offer up a celebration dessert - an unbaked cheesecake slice with chocolate sauce and cherries. It was a nice light bite to end the dinner and we enjoyed it. I will say that I find their pricing to be somewhat aggressive. Several of their appetizers, sharables and sides are priced like main dishes and their main dishes are priced as if this were a high-end steak house instead of a more casual eatery. My pasta was fairly good, but more than a steak at comparable restaurants at $33. It was not THAT good.

Their website has a popup on the home page saying it comes with fried haddock, potato pancakes, applesauce, and rye bread, but the popup doesn't list the price and it isn't available through the online ordering function. I ended up calling in an order to go, substituting wheat bread for the rye, and also added a piece of lemon ginger coffee cake. The lemon ginger coffee cake tasted fine, but man was it dry. Like Sahara Desert dry. Maybe this was an anomaly and their other baked goods are better, but I'd be hesitant to try them based on this coffee cake. Even though the website says the side is potato pancakes with applesauce, my fish fry came with fries. They ended up being the best part of the meal, which I certainly wasn't expecting. Still, I was disappointed cause I prefer potato pancakes and was given their inclusion as an expectation. The wheat bread itself was ok, but the butter was oddly unsalted. The fish, of which there was three pieces, was battered with a hint of beer, but like the butter for the bread there was no salt to speak of in the batter. As much as I didn't enjoy the unsalted butter for the bread, not having salt in the batter for the fish managed to be more unpleasant. Maybe Blue's Egg should just stick with serving breakfast items instead of adding something temporary that they clearly aren't pros at.

I was hoping to have it served in an actual ceramic mug, but those are only offered to customers who order drip coffee. That said, they made a very good London Fog, with a little extra lavender and plenty of foam. For my taste, it could have been a bit hotter. Service: Everyone who helped us was kind and helpful and gave us plenty of time to choose the perfect pastries. When ordering the London Fog, they explained how they make theirs and how they would add the extra lavender, which I appreciated. As mentioned above, they do not provide mugs for specialty drinks, using mugs instead to keep track of customers who have paid for bottomless drip coffee. I could bring my own mug from home, but I am not a fan of carrying around coffee shop essentials. Atmosphere: The building is nicely designed on the outside and sits on a corner with plenty of large windows that bring in natural light. It faces north, so you avoid the glaring morning sun. Upon entering, there is a short walk to the counter, where you can view all of the bakery and pastry items. A menu board above clearly displays the breakfast and lunch offerings, making it easy for first time visitors.
