Blueberry lemon scone, rhubarb dumpling, banana chocolate chip and raspberry muffins
    Jen F.

I love this place! All vegan, with some gluten-free options as well. I love their muffins and cupcakes, but the raspberry rhubarb "dumplings" (more like tiny rustic tarts) are my fave. They also make great fruit pies They're only open to the pubic on Saturdays (now, as of October, they are in the storefront). During the summer, they have a stand at the farmer's market. I find the prices to be very reasonable, and the people are very sweet. I can't wait to try some of these brownies that people keep raving about!

Everything I've tried so far is delicious. This is real baking and not that processed from poor quality ingredients stuff you usually get.

Customer service is awesome and sweet like their treats . I got 4 cupcakes for my daughter's birthday and they included a birthday pick and candle. That's special care. They are located in Cudahy on a corner. All I had to do was follow my nose because wow- I asked her what smelled soooo good and she said she was baking a strawberry rhubarb pie!!! Just so many yummies. Give them a visit.

The first event that occurred was when I went to Jen's to simply grab a few pieces of candy because I didn't have too much change on me. I grabbed some stuff and a few pieces I got were a bit over the amount I had. Instead of kindly saying that an older woman that's always at the register told me,"If you know you don't have enough money don't bring all of this up here" I found it rude but I assumed she had a bad day. The second interaction happened today. I came in with a few cents in my pocket to pay for some candy and leave like I always do I go to Jen's all the time. I pay , and I'm always nice. She followed me around , hovered over me when I tried getting what I needed , stared me down as soon as I came in , and I am an African American woman. She stared me down and when I went to the register she asked me if I had anything in my pockets when I went to ask her how much money in change I had. I was flabbergasted. She stared me up and down and made me feel unwelcome. I simply put what I already grabbed back and left. I did say,"No offense but if you're gonna think I'm stealing then I won't shop here." And I left. They're always in a rude mood when there and almost never nice. I went back later just for an explanation as that's a local store. They both said it's because they thought I put things in my pocket I told her I didn't and she shrugged her shoulders and rolled her eyes. I asked why she would think that I always pay. I didn't get anything only that she thought I was stealing. I don't know if it's because I'm African American but this environment makes me feel unsafe due to the energy , the glares , and the rude comments.

Date of visit: March 23, 2025…read more How funny that we visited Bakehouse 23 on the 23rd! Totally not intentional but glad that we did stop by as both of the things that I tried were excellent. First up, location and staff. This is truly a neighborhood bakery so expect to pull in, grab some things, and dash off. I believe they have some tables for the summer but in March there's just no place to sit and enjoy your items, so keep that in mind. It's a family affair behind the counter with the young gentleman reminding me of helping my mom bus tables as a waitress many years ago. He was polite and efficient, two great things you don't see in young 'uns these days! Most importantly, the goods! Sundays are cinnamon roll days and that is where it's at, people. They are ready by 9 am and when we grabbed them this morning, they were still warm! We took them to the Starbucks on Drexel because of the aforementioned seating challenge and they were still warm and also delicious. Easily one of the best rolls I've ever had--and I am nothing if not a bread connoisseur. I also snagged a peanut butter cup for later (later being noon...) and it was phenomenal. Don't sleep on this place--honestly, how am I the first one reviewing it!--if you're anywhere in the southern hemisphere of Milwaukee, it's a gem!
