Wow! One of the best and most filling breakfasts I have ever had! Went with my Moms on a Wednesday morning. We were greeting warmly immediately upon entering, and asked for our seating preference (booth or table). We chose a booth and were seated right away. The decor is country and welcoming, but not as touristy as Cracker Barrel. As soon as we sat down we were served coffee and two huge biscuits with their famous homemade apple butter- wow those were a meal in themselves! They do offer an all you can eat breakfast for $7.49 which is very popular. However, my mom had the breakfast special which came with ANOTHER biscuit and myself the Angus Skillet- I wish I had taken a picture, but I dug in right away! Delicious- the potatoes were great- not over cooked or over seasoned. They advertise local ingredients and everything indeed tasted fresh. When I travel to various places, I often try to find local places for breakfast that give me the impression they are small businesses working hard for their customers. The result is often finding gems that I go back to time and again. Moose Cafe will be one of those places. It's a bit hard to find since the mapping app took me to the entrance of a farmer's market and I wasn't sure what to do next but I'm glad I drove around the parking lot to find it. Now I've been coming here for many years and this was my worst Visit here. We were greeted nicely and seated very quickly. Our server was nice and it really wasn't that busy when we got there at 9am on a Friday. Our waitress took a long time to bring back milk for my sisters coffee that she needed a fresh hot cup of coffee. We waited 45 minutes for our food which for breakfast food that's a pretty long time . We were worried our food was going to be cold. I ordered the fried chicken breakfast and the chicken was crispy but it was more breading than chicken. A little disappointed with that . I was not a huge fan. It is a great location if you are visiting the farmers market and want to grab a bite to eat. I liked the apple butter but wasn't a huge fan of the biscuit. But after all it was free so I do think that is a neat touch. I wasn't a fan of my sausage patties they seemed like they weren't heated up all the way. My eggs were cooked perfectly over medium! Do they call it Moose Cafe because of all the Mooseabilia or is it because you'd have to be as big as a moose to finish your meal? Here's how it works : The Host seats you and before you even get situated, they plunk down cathead biscuits and homemade, chunky apple butter and take your drink order. Naturally, you eat while reading the menu. The menu is varied but everything that went by looked delicious. They have lunch specials but we ordered off the menu. Here's what $9.99 bought me: Country Fried Steak with white pepper gravy, mashed potatoes with more white gravy (ask for white because brown gravy is the standard), a side of chicken and dumplings and corn bread. You pick a main and 2 sides. The cornbread is free. They have real vegetables but why order veggies when you can carb load? The chicken and dumplings were more yellow than I'm used to but they were delicious. The CFS was huge, thick and crispy. I would have liked more gravy but good grief, that's my personal problem. The mashed potatoes are real and very flavorful. The cornbread is slightly sweet. I tasted everything but didn't come close to finishing. My to go box weighed 3 lbs. I attached a picture but as you can see, I dug in before taking it. You get the idea though. Definitely worth the price and a return trip. My mom and I visited this restaurant today. There was coffee in her seat and she sat on it with white pants on. We told a waitress she pretty much ignored us and told it was just water. She got the manager, Alex. What a joke. He should not be the manager of anything. When he got to us after the waitress had to hunt him down we explained what happened. Showed him her pants. He asked us, "What do you want me to do?" very sarcastically. We were leaving. Then Lisa stopped us and asked what was wrong. I explained. She helped us and was the friendliest person there. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is due to the service we received not becasue of the quality of food or cleanliness of the place. We were looking for a place to grab a late breakfast and/or early lunch and we were nearby so we stopped in. Half of our group ordered lunch, the rest of ordered breakfast. We were seated quickly and had good service throughout our visit. I ordered chicken and dumplings, green beans and salad. My daughter ordered a sweet potato and my boyfriend ordered a breakfast platter. Once the food arrived, we were like ugh. Nothing was really good. It was just fine. The sweet potato was burned on the top and tasted funky. She ate some of it but luckily was not overly hungry. My chicken dumplings were just bland and I had to keep working around bones. I finally gave up and just ate my salad and green beans which were both okay. The breakfast platter was alright. The hashbrown casserole looked like baked mac and cheese. Additionally, the whole area around our booth was nasty. Stuff smeared on the walls. The menus were in really bad shape and the salt and pepper shakers were greasy. This place had hands down amazing southern cooking. I ordered the crab cakes with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. My husband got the fried chicken, greens and potato salad. All of the above mentioned were delicious! You could tell everything was fresh and locally grown. I'm not a complainer and rarely post negative reviews but I simply don't understand what anyone sees in this place. Arrived for breakfast this morning, the host left us standing at the counter for an eternity before showing us to a table by the restrooms in a relatively empty dining room. We asked if we could move to a booth by the window and he said, "yeah," and walked away, as in "I don't give a damn where you sit." The food is mess hall slop, plop a ladle of grits in a dish-done, a ladle of potato casserole-done (so over-salted it couldn't be eaten), flies buzzing, dirty silverware, crap caked on a basket of creamers that looked it had made the rounds. Little effort is made to prevent the spread of COVID. Servers wear their masks under the nose. A rag had probably passed over the vinyl tablecloth but there was still dried food stuck to it. Everytime we come here it's so cold everyone is wear jackets and sweaters. When we complain we are told the mgrs say they can't turn it down. Everyone that comes in complains. Your food is cold before you can finish it. I guess they don't mind taking your money but don't care if you are comfortable while you are there. Okay I was looking for some country cooking type of breakfast. We needed some Christmas wreaths and headed over to the Farmers Market for some. While there we headed over to the moose cafe. They were still fairly busy at 9:30. We got seated fairly quickly though. They offered large biscuits and apple butter while waiting for our food. I'm not a fan of apple butter but this was pretty good. You can get jars of this to go along with some chow chow or relish. The breakfast was good and the service was fairly quick. Couldn't go wrong with fried eggs and bacon. Restaurant itself is a little dated but goes along with the country feel. Recommend it but get there early if your going on the weekend for breakfast. My friend and I were there this morning for the first time ever. Food was mediocre. Hostess made no eye contact or smile, looked as if someone just woke her up to go to work. Very unprofessional. I am a server and I'll make sure to give benefit of doubt. But I was immediately feeling like not staying. Zero customer service skill. We got biscuits and butter, but no drinks. There were not at all busy. I had to go find my server, standing in the server station chatting to get more water! She wasn't nearly as lifeless as the host so she did try to recover asking how our Mother's Day was? Anywho. They need some sort of dress code, unless it was pajama day. Condiments on the table did not look like they had been wiped clean recently. We should have followed our instinct and left before we ordered. Eggs were cold. Moose cafe used to be a hidden treasure in GSO, but they're being run down by lack of service/maintenance. I used to love this place for group breakfasts, until it became impossible time/service wise. The food is mostly good, though Prices are pretty topped out, for a simple breakfast menu. The biscuits are inedible- they're SO dry, even the delicious apple butter can't save them. The place desperately needs a deep clean, and the service is consistently sub par, which is what ultimately keeps me from going back. I don't want to spend $30 on breakfast, and never be able to flag a waitress down for a refill on my $3 cup of coffee. Lastly, the last two times i went, i had foreign objects in my food. One of those objects? A large hunk of a broken plate, nestled right into my French toast. I waited 20 mins for a manager to come out, to no avail. Eventually the waitress(who let out a huff and walked away when i showed it to her) told me the manager was busy, and she'd just have her comp my meal(that i never got to eat, or have replaced.) Gave it another shot last weekend, and there was a human hair cooked into my sons pancake. We had a flight to catch, and our waitress was MIA, so we just paid the bill and left. read more

Every once in a while, my family will go out on a weekend breakfast to Moose Cafe, with a stop by the Farmer's Market a 5 minute walk away. It's an average (heavy) country breakfast with a communal camp-like atmosphere inside. We got one Moose Cake (their giant version of a pancake), French Toast, Country Fried Steak with casserole (cheesy hashbrown ball), and the Farmer's Omelet. A big tray of biscuits comes complementary. One thing I can't stand is a sticky booth with crumbs, and that's exactly where we were seated today :(. The biscuits came out hot and fluffy, but were altogether too salty for me. It's meant to be eaten with their signature Apple Butter (chilled, cooked apples with cinnamon), so maybe that's why it's salty. I'm not a fan of cold apples on a hot biscuit, but my family likes it. The moose cake is a huge pancake (the soft variety, not chewy) and the French toast was fine too. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to phone home about. I do like the Country Fried Steak. The ends were nice and crispy, and it's also huge. Asked for extra gravy because that's really what makes the dish for me. The Casserole was a bit too salty. Farmer's omelette was heavy handed with green peppers. I would never pick this place to go myself, but it's good with family as a shared breakfast. read more

Gravy was hot, chicken was cold, eggs were cold and potatoes were semi-warm. She returned the plate, again you could see the gravy was hot, the chicken was still cold, the eggs were now semi-warm and the potatoes were now cold. I ordered the ham and veg omelet with potatoes. The omelet portion was cooked but the veggies and the ham were cold and uncooked, the raw cold onion was hard to get pass. The potatoes were cold, and the saddest part for me was the sweet tea (that's served in a mason jar) was not sweet at all. Hubby ordered the all-you-can-eat breakfast, he only ate his 1 plate and chose not to reorder as, you guessed it, the food was cold. The server was very apologetic, took off my friends order and advised the kitchen was having a very hectic day.
