What can I say that hasn't yet been said? Well let me begin by saying that this is very, very (did I say 'very'), very good ice cream. The flavors and the right amount of sweetness is a telling sign of what a quality dessert is all about. I am an ice cream fanatic and let me just say... that YES this is superb ice cream. My hubby I had the Tres Leches and Butter Pecan. He for one is not too big on eating ice cream because he always has to follow it with a bottle of water because they tend to be too sweet for him BUT not Moo Moo's. He loved it and even agreed with its "world's best ice cream" among locals. The ice cream was delicious and had a wonderful consistency. The staff are friendly and keep the line moving. Very long line but well WORTH it... Trust me! Another thing that makes this spot a great place was the view across the street! Wow!! The location is in a picturesque area overlooking the Hudson river and beautiful mountains back drop and in a beyond lovely town --- Cold Spring, New York of all places. It has an old town feel and a few to die for. So imagine eating one of the best ice cream that you've ever had but overlooking a storybook view?! I like their ice cream. But some of the people behind the counter were rude. First the ice cream: great ice cream, interesting flavors. Can't beat a good ice cream after a long hot day of hiking. Also great frappes. Now, the scoopers. I've been here in previous years and the scoopers were great. But this time around, the scoopers were rude. (Maybe they have turnover of scoopers each season) I tried to inquire information about flavors, and one of the scoopers just gave me a cold look. On top of that, I dropped my ice cream on the floor and I asked for another ice cream; they said I had to pay for another one. I was a little shocked and upset. If I had a child with me (which I didn't this time around), I would have been more upset and outraged. I don't know; as one of the town's premier ice cream shop, I would have assumed better customer service. I understand it can get busy here on the weekends and things can get hectic but really, you can be a little bit nicer. Best ice cream in town! Monstrous scoops! I came here with my family late in the summer. I usually go hiking at 7 Lake Drive/Harriman State Park. We sometimes come to Cold Spring to check out some antique shops but this time we decided to walk around the area more and discovered this awesome ice cream joint. 1 scoop will do you justice, 2 scoops, you'll find yourself feeling like 5 year old tasting sugar for the first time. My wife and my parents all ordered 2 scoops each, we were all loving it except for my father. The girl who scooped his ice cream must of been new. She gave him baby scoops and keep in mind, my pop is a 250 lb + man. This is a guy who can't have this stuff but can't resist. His inner child says yes, but his arteries are saying hell no! My dad wolfed down his first 2 scoop baby cone and ordered a 2nd one from a different employee. After that, he was in a good mood all day. Verdict - The portions here are simply ridiculous, 1 scoop is more than enough for 1 person but if you really like your ice cream on a hot summer day, go for 2. It will melt all over your hands but who cares. When you're enjoying your ice cream this much, nothing else matters. There is a great view right outside of Moo Moo's Creamery. Oh Cold Spring, how I love thee. Moo Moo's Creamery truly completes the experience in the charming river town. I ventured up here on a Friday afternoon with scattered thunderstorms. I had read reviews on Yelp and was determined to find Moo Moo's, but was disheartened when I couldn't find it. It took a good two hours before I realized there's an underground tunnel that takes you under the train tracks to the riverfront, where Moo Moo's is. And this happened because of a torrential downpour that sent me diving for cover like I was in the middle of trench warfare. Once the rain stopped, I made it a mission to visit the quaint ice cream shop. I was pleased when I realized the ice cream was actually home-made and not some gross supermarket brand. I couldn't choose a flavor for the life of me, so I got Oreo cookie and Snickers. When the lady at the counter stuffed the cup, I couldn't believe my eyes: ONE scoop was insanely HUGE. I'm talkin' grapefruit huge. I'm talkin' cat's head huge... HUGE... The ice cream was creamy and super-filling, which is just fine as it kept me from spending money on snacks elsewhere in town (which are kind of pricey). I'm in love...the first time I had their ice cream was at Cathryn's this past fall and we finally went yesterday 4/7 to their store front. They have no problem giving you samples and even though the staff is young, they're friendly and polite. They have a few chairs on the deck that give a nice view of the water, or you can wander back down to sit on a bench. The scoops are GENEROUS and I couldn't even finish the "single" scoop, which is really like 3 or 4. Next time I'll ask for a 1/2 scoop. The hazelnut gelato was amazing and gave my husband ice cream envy, even though his choco chip cookie dough was delish too. OMG SO GOOD. I got the tiramisu and the caramel cashew in the one scoop cup. The tiramisu may be sweet for some, but I liked it. The caramel cashew was lovely.. since I love cashews. You can ask to sample as many as you want, so you be the judge. The ice cream flavors look the same... which I guess means they aren't artificially colored haha. They don't make the best instagram-worthy ice cream, but that didn't matter to me because you could taste the homemade creamy quality of the ice cream. I was so impressed.... The staff witnessed this, I asked for a new kids cup, charged me full price and complained about the card purchase under 10 dollars. I'm a relatively frequent customer as I live close. FAAAANTASTIC! My friends and I discovered Moo Moo's while looking for ice cream after a fantastic hike at Break Neck ridge, and we were not disappointed. The town of Cold Spring itself is incredibly idyllic and picturesque, and the ice cream parlor occupies a prime spot right on the river. The store itself is rather sparse and could do with a bit more atmosphere, but as they only opened in June, I'm sure they'll get there eventually. Now, I suppose that the most important thing about it is the product. Which is cheap, voluminous, and incredibly delicious. $4.50 with tax gets you an enormous two scoops, but $3.00 will buy you two scoops in the inaccurately named "one scoop size." The pumpkin ice cream was the best I've ever had (and I've had many) and the maple walnut was just as good. Beyond the taste, it had a creamy, rich texture and smoothness that really made it all come together. My only feedback would be that more flavors with "chunks" would be appreciated. I signed on to write a review thinking there were probably already hundreds on this ice cream spot. NOT ONE! HOW ON EARTH IS THAT POSSIBLE?? This place has homemade, rich and creamy, made fresh daily, ice-cream and it ROCKS. On any given day, Moo Moo's creamery offers about ten flavors or so. As you can see from the website, they make hundreds, so I don't know how they decide what they will make each day, but I am confident that whatever you get, will be delicious. The line was out the door--probably a ten minute wait for a small cone. WORTH IT. They have a nice outdoor porch where the husband and dog can sit and wait till you emerge with the goods. Or there is a beautiful pier across the way with scenic views of the hudson. If you are up in Cold Spring, forget the diet, remember the wallet, and bring time to sit and enjoy this decadent treat. read more
