    Mozzarella shooter
    Katy C.

As a big Top Chef fan, I have a running list of some of the restaurants owned by the "cheftestants" and judges that I want to check out, so I decided to make a reservation at Monteverde for a belated anniversary dinner while in town recently. Executive chef Bailey Sullivan was on Season 22 of Top Chef and the co-owner also competed in one of the earlier seasons. Nate and I arrived a bit before our 9 pm reservation but were seated by our scheduled time. The restaurant was super busy and very loud! We were quite close to the tables next to us, so if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dining experience, this probably isn't it. We ordered the heirloom tomato salad, sweet corn chitarra pasta, a side of wilted escarole, and the chocolate tart for dessert. We also got a complimentary mozzarella shooter as an anniversary treat, which was incredible. The food was delicious, but my favorite dish was definitely the heirloom tomato salad, with seasonally fresh tomatoes, peaches, mint pistachio pesto, and stracciatella. It was so flavorful and bright and I could eat this every day. It was a good portion to split between the two of us, but I'd probably order this just for myself if I came back and it was on the menu (it was that good). The pasta was a nice balance of savory and sweet from the fresh corn, and I loved the texture of the bronze die extruded pasta. Service was great, with waters being refilled promptly and empty plates removed quickly. I loved this meal, and would recommend to anyone who likes delicious pasta in a lively, bustling environment.

Hands down our best meal while on vacation in Chicago. Was the 7:15pm dinner reservation a little stressful to get? Sure, but it was totally worth it. The restaurant was loud and busy but in a fun way and we had no problem carrying on a conversation. For our dinner we shared the Cacio Whey Pepe, Spaghetti al Pomodoro, Grilled Italian Sausage and the Soppressata Meatball. The pastas were perfectly al dente and everything was absolutely delicious. If I had to choose a favorite it would be the spaghetti al pomodoro. It was so simple but perfectly executed. For dessert my husband had the affogato while I had the chocolate dipped forgotten cookie. I don't love a dessert but sometimes I want *a little something*, and this was the perfect bite. Service, food and ambiance were all an 11/10. This will be at the top of my list when we make it back to Chicago!

Came here during lunch and got the arancini, pomodoro spaghetti and the agnolotti. Arancini was well balanced, the sauce was lemony and paired well with the rest of the dish. The sauce of the agnolotti stood out and was delicious. I would skip the pomodoro as the sauce was incredibly acidic. While the pasta itself was good, the dish was hard to eat given how sour the sauce was. Service was attentive and the overall atmosphere was lively.

Monteverde continues to be recognized locally and nationally which made it an easy choice to visit for a special occasion. We were able to get an early evening reservation but this place was busy! The inside feels homey and casual with some beautiful architectural features like the main bar displays, wine shelving, and more. The menu is intended to be shared amongst guests to try a little bit more. For drinks, we started with Bay of Naples & Lancia Scorpione. The Bay of Naples was a bit tart for me and could have used a larger rye punch. I did love the Lancia Scorpione as it was smokey, smooth, and sweet. We later also tried the Espresso Old Fashioned & Cortina Rosa. The Espresso Old Fashioned was strong but balanced with a subtle espresso taste. The Cortina Rosa was a great gin cocktail choice! For a starter, we started with the full order of Burrata E Ham. I love that staff wear shirts showing how to make the perfect sandwich with all components. The full order was the perfect portion to really enjoy all the flavors this dish has to offer and may have been one of my favorites in the night. For mains, we shared the Cacio Whey Pepe, Gnocchetti Con Pesto, and Sweet Corn Chitarra pastas. Each dish was a good portion for two people to share and was served as the dosh was ready. All of these were a great summer pasta option as well. Everything tasted very fresh, made with quality ingredients, and intentionally put together. Staff did a great job presenting dishes and saying how to best serve/eat the pasta. End the end of the night, they gave my husband a piece of funfetti cake with marshmallow frosting. The cake was certainly taken out of the freezer but was complimentary for our celebration which was kind. Overall, this was a great italian spot in west loop. Prices were a bit high for not having protein included in most dishes but the flavors and quality are there.

Food: great! Tasty! Nothing to say, fresh pasta, awesome drinks. Changing menu according to season. Maybe not the best desserts (too overpowering) Service: very attentive staff. Ambiance is dark inside great for date nights, has a bar sitting perfect for summer and people watching outside. Value: a bit overpriced like most westloop spots.

We had a lovely dinner at Monteverde. We started with the burrata e ham wish was pretty tasty. We then ordered the cacio whey pepe and the chicken parm. The cacio whey pepe was good but the pepper taste was a little too overpowering for my liking. The chicken parm was delicious. Lastly, the tiramisu came in a generous portion and tasted great. Our waiter and bussers were all very kind. Would recommend to anyone who hasn't visited.

If you get anything at all from here, make sure it's the wagyu skewer and tiramisu. It is the best tiramisu in Chicago!!! This was my fourth time at Monteverde and out of those visits, two were just for the tiramisu lol. Although this time I came mostly because I wanted their wagyu skewer and pesto pasta again because they were so delicious the last time. We came on a Thursday evening around 5:45 and we sat at the available bar seats. The only downside is it was the bar seats at the end which had no space to put my legs so I had to eat facing side ways. But I guess we got lucky because everyone who arrived after us had to be put on a waiting list for the bar. We've never had an issue getting a seat at the bar or waiting for a table. It gets crowded but service is incredibly quick so I wouldn't worry about the wait times. To start, we ordered the wagyu beef skewer and mozzarella shooters. The skewer is so tender and the flavors are perfect. We also were curious about the mozzarella shooters and ordered two because we thought they'd be small (we were wrong--they are much bigger than you'd expect lol). Personally, I didn't like it because I couldn't get past the thick texture of the liquid, but my boyfriend liked it and ate both. For pasta (which you can watch being handmade in the mirror if you sit at the bar!), I ordered the gnocchetti con pesto. I love how refreshing and light it is. It's the perfect dish to eat on a hot summer day. For a side, we chose the crispy yukon cold potatoes and they were definitely crispy!! And of course the tiramisu for dessert. You just can't leave without getting the tiramisu.

Big space inside with dog friendley patio. Reservation is needed for weekend. But you can walk in at 11am you may get bar table. Service was good. Outstanding and very different Italian restaurant in the West Loop section of Chicago! We had a great pre dinner drink at the bar with a wonderful and very informative bar tender. We also had the chance to chat with a few folks eating at the bar who shared some good recommendations (lamb chop is a must). We sat outside on a beautiful July summer night and enjoyed several shareables along with some great libations! Notable dishes were the Mozzarella shooters (think gazpacho with a nice ball of fresh mozz on top), prosciutto with burrata, meatball ravioli, lamb chops, cacio Pepe, gnocchi and the escarole (had to have something green right?). All delish and served with such wonderful care and attention! Wrapped it up with a surprise birthday cake slice and the chocolate orange sundae! Well earned 5 star dinner!!

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and I loved it! The food was incredible. Hands down the best chicken parm I've ever had. The drinks were delicious, our waitress was great, and the birthday ice cream cake at the end of the meal was perfect!

My boyfriend and I came by for a weekday lunch and, wow, it was packed. We were not used to this coming from SF, but we loved the vibes and energy. The servers were all really great as well. We ordered the burrata e ham, gnocchetti con pesto and lobster mezzaluna. We're both big eaters and we were both very full. I can't even pick a favorite dish because everything was so good. I usually find Italian food a bit too heavy and cheesy, but I feel like each dish we had was really balanced and refreshing. This place was definitely too expensive for me back in college, but now that I am working, I will definitely be back when I visit Chicago LOL.

Haven't been back in four year but wow has it only gotten better. Our jaws were to the floor. You can't find this quality of food many places outside of Italy. The seasonal burrata was incredible. Every part from the strawberry and mustard jam to the most tender flavorful prosciutto I've ever had. Then the speciality sweet pea and sausage pasta was perfectly al dente. The peas were crunchy and the sausage was tender. Not pictured was a salad and some steak skewers that melted in your mouth. We were so happy we asked to buy an apron so I can wear it to cook at home haha.

    Wagyu Beef Skewer
    Alanna M.

In short, food was fantastic and so was the service--but we did get seated at a high top on the back near the kitchen which tampered the vibe (nitpicking). We gladly accepted the guidance of our wonderful server and ordered several small bites, a medium sized bite, and then our pastas. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, the manager comped our mozzarella shooters, which were delicious and unique (we did mozzarella and liquid in the same bite, like an oyster shooter). We followed that with the shrimp scampi which was incredible and my bf got the crostini which he gave high marks for its flavor and texture. The beef skewer was tender and flavorful but SUCH a skimpy serving. We agreed that the cacio e pepe was THE best we had ever had (and we've had a lot). The duck rage was very flavorful, interesting texture overall, but the texture of the noodles was super weird it had these tiny bumps all over the noodle itself, however, it was a seasonal dish so it likely won't be seen again (thankfully lol). We ended the meal with a mind blowing (in portion and flavor) tiramisu. Overall, a little overpriced for what you get but what you get is f**king good.

Any tips for someone who is going to dine solo - is it easy to walk in and eat alone at the bar as a solo diner?

Yes. They are more than accommodating there.

Do you offer half portions for people that have had bariatric surgery?

Hello thank you for your question. We typically do not make half orders of our pasta dishes, however our menu is meant for sharing. So if you come with any others you definitely can eat only half (or less). We are happy to ask the kitchen for…

Are you kid friendly for early reservations?

Hi Kaitlin, absolutely yes! We are always kid-friendly and our kid's menu includes some coloring at the table should it be of interest. Thanks, Meg

How far do you book out reservations/when do you post new open dates?

Hi Chelsea, thanks for your question. We open reservations online 30 days out, though if you have a specific future date in mind you can always call our host team as well. Hope to see you soon!

Are you guys accepting walk-ins right now? I know indoor-dining just opened back up, so I was wondering if it was reservation only.

Hi Colin, yes we are accepting walk-ins! We are currently open Thursday-Sunday beginning at 4:30pm. Thank you.

Are you guys open for indoor dining with the latest COVID-19 restriction lift? If so, I'd love to make a reservation!

Hi Sam, thanks for your interest! We are not yet open for indoor dining, though we are open for to-go/delivery Thursday-Sunday evenings. Keep your eye on our website/social media for announcements on when we will be re-opening indoors! Thanks again.

    Does the restaurant accept walk-ins?

Hi Peter, yes we do always! We often build a waitlist so coming early does help, but we also have open seating at our bar top and people often eat there. In nice weather, we also have a patio that is walk-in based only.…

    What is the dress code?

    Casual clothing!

Does this place offer any vegan options? I really would like to try it.

Yes they do! There is a lot of fish on the menu but there are certainly options for vegans and they are very helpful with allergies as well. We got one dish that was avocado based and it was amazing. One of my hosts has a ton of dietary…

Being from the Chicago area previously, I regularly advocate for the Chicago food scene, and this unfortunately did not meet those standards. I wanted nothing more than to ring in year 45 with a great glass of natural wine... and I walked out having had a 7-glass flight and one of the most memorable evenings of the trip. The bartenders deserve their own star. They weren't just knowledgeable--they were genuinely fun to talk to, the kind of people who make you feel like you've been coming there for years. We went from discussing funky wine profiles to diving deep into '80s horror films, which is absolutely my idea of a perfect tangent. Their enthusiasm and curiosity made the whole experience feel personal and spontaneous. As for the wine: unique, surprising, and delicious, even the pours I didn't expect to enjoy. Good Funk leans into exploration in the best way--nothing feels generic or predictable. Every glass had its own personality, and the flight felt like a curated adventure rather than a lineup. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, stylish without being pretentious, and perfect for either a solo wind-down or a lively night out. It's the kind of place that encourages you to linger, taste one more thing, have one more conversation. Good Funk turned what could've been a quiet, forgettable evening into an unforgettable birthday-eve celebration. The atmosphere was fantastic, our server struck the perfect balance between attentive and giving us space, and both cocktails I tried were creative and delicious. The truffle fries were pretty mediocre, but even that wouldn't have stopped me from giving Arbella five stars. What did? Discovering afterward that a 5% "service charge" had been added to the bill. I really dislike this growing practice of restaurants and bars adding percentage-based fees rather than simply pricing their menu accordingly, and it was enough to cost an otherwise excellent experience two stars. Ambiance: 5/5 Arbella absolutely nails the atmosphere. I came here on a date, and it was a great choice for that. The music was good, the lighting and decor created a really intimate vibe, and our booth was comfortable enough that we could settle in and actually enjoy the evening. There was energy in the room without it being so loud or overwhelming that we couldn't have a conversation. Even the menu design and presentation fit the experience. If you're looking for somewhere that feels elevated, interesting, and still comfortable for a date, Arbella definitely checks those boxes. Service: 5/5 Our server was fantastic. This was one of those rare occasions where someone found exactly the right balance between being attentive and not constantly interrupting our date. We never felt forgotten about, but we also had plenty of space to enjoy ourselves and talk. I especially appreciated the recommendations. Whenever we had a question or wanted guidance on what to order, our server was knowledgeable and genuinely helpful rather than simply pushing something on the menu. Excellent service from beginning to end. Drinks & Food: 4/5 The cocktails were easily the highlight. I tried the First You Take The Graham and the Trankilo Melon, and both were really good while also being different enough from what I would normally order to make the experience more memorable. This is exactly what I want from a cocktail bar: drinks that make me curious enough to try something new and then actually deliver. The truffle fries, however, were mid at best. They weren't terrible, but compared with how impressive everything else felt, they were forgettable. I'd absolutely come back for the cocktails, but I'd choose something different to eat next time. About That 5% Service Charge... This is unfortunately where Arbella lost me, and ultimately why I cannot give the experience five stars. I didn't notice until reviewing my bill afterward that a 5% service charge had been added. I strongly dislike this increasingly common practice of restaurants and bars adding percentage-based fees to the bill. If operating costs have increased, I would much rather an establishment incorporate those costs transparently into its menu prices so I know what I'm agreeing to pay when I order. Calling it a "service charge" also creates unnecessary confusion, particularly when customers are still expected to decide what to tip their server. At a cocktail-focused establishment, where you may be ordering multiple drinks throughout an evening rather than paying attention to every line of the check, I think fees like this need to be extremely clear and prominent before ordering, not something a customer discovers afterward. For me, it feels like an extra charge for simply using the establishment in exactly the way it was intended to be used. Overall: 4/5 The frustrating part is that without the service charge, this probably would have been a five-star review. Arbella gave us a genuinely great date night: beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, creative cocktails, and a space I otherwise would have happily recommended and returned to. Instead, that 5% fee left a sour final impression on what had been an excellent evening. It may seem small, but transparency around pricing matters to me. Arbella did so much right that I want to come back, but the service charge is significant enough that I would think twice before doing so.

We had the date package and ate at the restaurant after. I recommend the pork schnitzel and pierogis. We ordered four shareables but weren't blown away by the butternut squash fondue and gougeres. Loved our hostess for the wine tasting, but wish there was more guidance on tasting notes and wine terminology. I'd recommend though to any wine lovers, I still learned a lot!

Chicago Winery prioritizes upscale and intimacy but their service is personable and friendly allowing you to feel right at home. On Wednesday they offer a Happy Hour special, $5 off a tasting and $10 wine by the glass. The server as extremely kind, and was able to offer me some suggestions based on my personal palate and wine interests. I landed on the Winemaker's Tasting, which included 4, one ounce pours, including Blancs de Blancs, Albarino, Barbera and Merlot. I paired the tasting with the a BYOB board. From their menu I picked the olives, Afterglow, and the Tempesta Guanciale. The server was educated on the wines was able to walk me through the tasting and pairings but gave me independence and autonomy to enjoy at my own leisure and pace. I highly enjoyed my visit and absolutely will be returning to dine in, as well as to get a winery tour!

I only tried the French onion soup and shrimp cocktail, but would definitely come back for dinner. The shrimp cocktail was generous, and they were accommodating to add extra horseradish to the sauce for me. The French onion soup is very rich and beefy... it's definitely one of the better ones I've tried in Chicago so far, but I would've loved to have a little less bread and more soup and onion although I'm sure I'm the minority. The cheese was perfect. But beyond how good the food was, the amazing wait staff and how they treated me was even better. I walked in with two service dogs (one still in training) and sometimes I get turned away at the door because of my disabilities at restaurants or businesses. Not only was everyone very welcoming, they didn't treat me any differently and were very nice to my dogs. They also gave me a booth with plenty of room to sit, even though I didn't ask for one and made sure it wasn't in the way of other servers walking around so my dogs wouldn't get tripped over. Service was timely and attentive, but not overbearing or too talkative. 5/5 would recommend to anyone who likes French bistro style cuisine.

This would've been a 5 star for me, however, I couldn't help like we were being rushed. I would've understood if it was busy, but there were a lot of empty seats around us. Ignoring that, we had a great time. We were seated at hightops with lovely views of the city. Since it is a rooftop, you are greeted by a host downstairs that calls an elevator for you and then by a host upstairs. It's mainly outdoor seating. They offer some food, but if you want something more substantial, Avec downstairs is your best best. Our server was fun and guessed what drinks we would like most based on our vibes. I was happy when he said mine because I was already between two drinks and he picked one of those! I loved the Side to Side cocktail. My bestie wanted more from her Golden Oldie. It's a pretty spot.
