I came here on their networking nights. Been interested in coming to the place since I moved to the area. Tried the The Peoples Republic of Montclair draft, the taste was pleasant with notes of coriander. Didn't knock me off my boots. On the other hand, the owner Denise, which got the opportunity to exchange a small conversation with that night proved to be a great host that night. She talked with all the attendees and made sure you felt welcome to the place. The staff, provided me another recommendation which will try on my next visit the Tuxedo Strong Belgian Golden Ale. The. Mango. Fire. Ale. I'm a pale ale fan. Talking pale ale category of IPAs. Was introduced to this place by yelpnorthjersey on IG. It didn't disappoint. I'm not into very spicy things but found myself intrigued by the mango habanero mixture of (currently) #19. Good atmosphere. Not from the area but can see it's a neighborhood go to. Thumbs up to the bartenders. Will return. I want people to experience the mango fire ale. read more

Montclair Brewery is unlike any of other brewery in New Jersey. I have visited 73 of them now, so I can say that. Almost all breweries in NJ are either located on main street in a downtown area, or they are in an industrial park. Montclair Brewery sits on a walkable street and has a pub-like atmosphere, but it also has an industrial feel with a garage in the back. The building is actually old, charming, and cool. It's also nice to see a part of town get revived with more foot traffic. The owner, Leo, greeted me with open arms. Upon request, he gave me a tour. I could just listen to him talk all day. He's the only West African brewery owner I know about anywhere. You can tell that he has years of experience with brewing. The beers actually have a beautiful color to them. I haven't seen beers from other breweries quite like that. The beers tend to have deep, bold flavors. Each one tastes distinct from the next. Although they haven't released a huge variety of IPA's yet, that's also not the focus of the brewery. I look forward to cans and crowlers coming in the future, too. Visited for Stoutfest '21 and it was great. With 8 different stouts on offer, there was a dark beer for every taste. The vibe is laid back and welcoming, starting with a friendly hello from the moment we walked in the door. We grabbed a table and settled in to try the stouts and were not disappointed. From the exotic coconut to the simpler Irish stout, all were good beers. This independent local brewery is great. read more

Great brewery. Perfect for a quick stop before seeing a show at The Wellmont. They have indoor and outdoor seating (with heaters outside) and the staff could not be nicer. Now to the beer. With so many great breweries in NJ, this one does it's best to keep up but they seem to have a large amount of regular beers but no limited or collab beers (at least the few times I have been there). This isn't to say that the beer was bad, it's actually pretty good but since I like trying new beer regularly, I usually tend to head over to other breweries that change up their line up regularly. Perfect brewery to pick up something to bring to a dinner and the staff makes this place special. read more

Popped in here with some friends after lunch yesterday. Not really sure what's going on in there, but the place looks like part warehouse, part brewery, part mess. The whole side was being used as storage and was just in total disarray. It wasn't really an inviting atmosphere. I'm not a big beer drinker but my friends and boyfriend are and everyone was disappointed with their beverage. I had the raspberry shandy which was alright. Montclair Brewery is a unique gem in the neighborhood. Sure you can get a beer at any bar but there is something about enjoying a beer at its birthplace. The beers are perfectly crafted and taste great, not to mention with great prices. There is a large variety to choose from. Given the post quarantine environment, you choose and order your beer on the website. There is not much staff interaction however will they check on you to make sure you are okay. The outdoor set up of the brewery doesn't have much decor but it's still a chill atmosphere. There was a live jazz band the night I visited and there was a $3 cover charge to support the artist. There was also an intermission with a Caribbean music playlist creating even more vibeezzzz. I would recommend making reservations on the evenings there is an event. If you are a cocktail - sweet drinker I would highly recommend the raspberry shandy. It is delicious. Diverse crowd of young, older than the young, ethnicities, some playing cards, some eating delivered takeout and some just enjoying a beer solo. A brewery that welcomes all. read more

Saw one of the owners on an episode of Moonshiners and decided to come. The place is industrial looking, but at the same time down to earth and welcoming. My friend and I ordered multiple flights to sample theie delicious and uniquely flavored homebrews. We were not disappointed!!! I will definitely be returning in the Spring & summer to take part in the warm-weather festivities. They will have a band and outdoor seating. Love this place! read more

Solid brewery. They have an outdoor area, which i'm not the most fond of, but it gets the job done when they have different events going on. the inside isn't well spaced out as far as seating goes. It feels more catered to outdoor, so i wish they would focus more on indoor seating especially when there's a larger crowd. the beer selection is decent. I know they switch it up time to time and i have no real complaints. just an average local brewery read more

I gave it a 2 just because of the atmosphere but when I got there they charged a cover charge to see their band. I didn't come to see the band. I go to breweries to taste the beers. And I try them wherever I go. The band is not what brought me there. Oh well. I won't be recommending them and won't be back. read more

The service was awful. We sat at the bar and bartender kept walking past us without even asking if we were ready to order. The bar was half empty so it wasn't even that she was busy. So we stared at her to see how long it would just take to get her attention and it took a good 15 minutes just to order a beer. Beer was ok nothing amazing. read more

Enjoyed this place, very wide beer selection. I had the lager and golden ale which were very good. The music was a little loud but we moved to the outdoor area which was comfortable but they made us out our beer in plastic cups and that was a shame. I do t like drinking well crafted beers out of plastic. In fact, I don't like drinking any beer out of a plastic cup but I respect their rules. Beer itself was ok but stayed here until 8:24 on a Sunday night and the staff (a young lady serving drinks and another guy in a beanie with a tie dye shirt and another guy who came to pick up our empty glasses in the back) working here started blasting music to obnoxious levels because they wanted us to leave even though they close at 9 pm. Strangely, the barista and the other staff me never didn't do this when the owner was here. As soon as the owner left, the staff pretty much let us know that we were unwanted because they wanted to goof off alone during the last hour of service. read more

I would put zero if I could. Do NOT book events here unless you plan to clean up after their customers before your event begins. No one was there for setup time and the place was TRASHED. Event was booked from 2-6. Took One hour an half for my fmaily to clean their mess, had to delay event by 2 hours. the Woman in charge shows up after 2:30pm and just yells at my family making passive aggressive comments, she lied multiple times and grabbed personal belonging of guests.....she didn't clean a damn thing either. read more

We came here this weekend for the first time. It was my birthday. There were 18 beers on tap which is nice. We tried 4 of them. Three were really good although I thought the flight was pricey compared to the 6 other local breweries we've been to. They had free live music that night and a taco truck out back! Great spot for a brewery. I think they just need some time to get everything right. They dont seem to be very knowledgeable with the whole process of beer making which is the #1 requirement for a brewery. You can bring in or order outside food which is cool and they have a nice vibe on the inside. They are nice people so I hope they can bring some more experienced brew masters in and get this place running at its full potential. read more

What a great brewery! The owner and staff are the friendliest people I've ever met- they love talking to their customers and are always upbeat. And the beer is amazing! Their selection is always changing, with new seasonal brews added. I love getting their flights and trying new styles of beer each time I visit. The place is great to hang out, too, especially in the warm weather when they have their patio open. Just be aware- they don't serve food, but have no problem with you bringing your own. read more

I really want to like this place, and I'm rooting for it, but i was pretty disappointed in my first visit a few weeks ago. It's nice inside, with a good vibe and a fun, friendly clientele. The first thing I noticed was that they had the menu on a flat screen above the bar, but the bar is L-shaped and we were sitting around the corner, so we had to get up every time we wanted to see the menu. A mild inconvenience, but an appropriate introduction to a place that just seemed off in so many ways. First, the service. There were two bartenders who were nice and decently attentive, but they seemed... I don't know, uncomfortable? Distracted? Not the type of enthusiastic, knowledge-dropping service I'm used to getting at other breweries. And like I said, just sort of... off. Second, the beer. I could forgive everything if the beer was top notch, but it missed on a lot of fronts. First of all, the carbonation of the beer was just wrong on so many levels. The Poor Richards IPA (which is a semi-juicy IPA i thought tasted great, and was by far their best beer) was coming out all foamy every time, and the bartenders kept having to pour the foam out over and over until I had a full beer. Most of the other beers (even ones that had a nice flavor) just tasted completely flat. Something just wasn't right; here's to hoping they figure it out. read more

Beer was ok, but nothing special. My boyfriend and I both started with flights and found some beers to be decent, and others to be quite underwhelming. Beyond the beer - the atmosphere wasn't very inviting, which surprised me. Each time we ordered something it was difficult to get acknowledged (despite the fact that crowds were minimal), and moreover the service was less than friendly. It felt like we were burdening the bartenders for some reason. When closing out, I also noticed that we got charged the fee for live music, which I thought was ridiculous. The music was supposedly from 7-9:30, and we arrived at 9:10 and did not even sit in the back outdoors section (i.e. we could not hear the live music from where we sat - we sat near a speaker playing generic recorded music). read more

Went here on a Friday evening for a couple beers with friends. I really liked the raspberry fruit beer, I really like sours and it was the closest thing to that. The vibe inside is really fun, and there was live music around 7:30 PM. We sat really close to the live performers, but it wasn't too loud so you could still talk without having to scream. While we went here after dinner, some folks brought their own food inside, which is great if you're hungry and looking for a place to drink. In addition to beer, they have a selection of ciders and seltzers as well. Fun place! The one thing I didn't like was that every time the back door opened a loud but short alarm went off. read more

If you really enjoy Kooaid, then you will be happy with the beers here. Insipid comes to mind. Great tour of the vats, easy parking. They just need a real brewmaster. This is a terrific addition to town. There's no place like it. NJ and township brewery licenses prohibit serving food or offering televisions for entertainment. So this is a B.Y.O.F. place (bring your own food) with no televisions (a HUGE bonus to me!). There were a dozen or so beers on the menu when I visited. The obligatory IPAs are very tasty, Toney's Brook is a light English Ale that was my favorite. This is a bargain night out, and fun. read more

Local brewery - the decor is vintage and 3rd hand - but it's a local place and you want to support it. Varied and interesting beer choices. However, we visited on a Friday night at 6:30 and close to 8 pm they charged us an extra $5 per person for a singer who they did not announce and we were not staying for. Great spot to hang out. Their beers range from alright to very solid. This is judged against all beers - amazing that a local place is this good, and I credit them with taking chances on a wide variety of styles. Variety of beers is fantastic and very happy to see some styles that are not especially in vogue right now (it was not just IPA, NEIPA, WCIPA, ***IPA but some darker and fruitier varieties). Also great how many lower ABV options there were for a weeknight session. Craft beer in the US has gotten too strong for work the next day / more than one. Ambiance was lovely - their back yard on a warm night transports me to a more relaxed place. read more
