Wonderful service, great food and a reasonable price. We had a chicken taco salad and a green chile burger. Both delicious. Burger came with a generous portion of fries and was cooked perfectly. The chicken in the taco salad was so flavorful. Not only did it have a generous portion of chicken, it also had a delicious dollop of guacamole and sour cream. Really enjoyed it!!

Fabulous food and fabulous service. Came here for lunch after the downtown growers market and thoroughly enjoyed it. Parking right outside, and spot on service. Restaurant had great New Mexican atmosphere, We had the breakfast burrito (classic!) and I took our server Casey's recommendation for green chile on the Carne Adovada Indian taco. Delicious! Would definitely go back!

2025 Albuquerque. New Mexican. (Highlight) Sopaipilla A fluffy, hot sopa served with real honey. (Highlight - Best) Taco Fingers Beef or chicken, BEST hand rolled tacos anywhere! Indian Taco Beef, chicken, or carne adovada + everything else piled on a piece of fry bread. Overall, Monroe's is awesome and taco fingers are always the best and hit the spot. "As good as it gets."

Service was excellent! Staff greeted us immediately and made us feel welcomed. The table we sat at had a slight wobble and they quickly fixed it. We ordered a chimichanga and a green chili burger with onion ring and a chile relleno. I liked the flavor of the refried beans and my adobado chimichanga was tasty. The green chili burger and onion rings disappeared quickly so I assume my hubby enjoyed his meal as well.

Visiting family here in Albuquerque. Picked up are last aunt to come eat. Not a lot of stars here but the food is good New Mexican chili stew is excellent if you are New Mexican you know when the chili is good and the Sopaipillas just like home cooking. Everything we had was authentic pork tamales, green chili stew, place is very clean staff is exceptional great attitudes super nice and accommodating staff is very good for crowds as I sit here we are a group of 7. And others came in with big groups The vibe here is very energetic crowd brings all types of people. locals, business the regulars.. I would definitely come back..

Great prices, quick service, good food and a large variety of options! I had the breakfast burrito and really enjoyed it! A lot of food for the price!

Been going here for wonderful food for over 20 years! Super tasty authentic Mexican food served by attentive staff. Nice dining room areas and outdoor patio seating, along with off street parking lot. The carne adovada and chicken stuffed Chile rellenos are superb and part of a wide menu, including breakfast items all day. Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Albuquerque!!

We didn't get to sit here for a full meal but got a sopapilla to eat here + take out spinach-chile tamales, beans, calabacitas, and red and green chiles that we put in our thermoses to eat on the road. The sopapilla was not crispy at all and not very hot even though we ate it right there but had a good flavor. The other food items were better. I often prefer green chile but the red chile here was really good too-- more creamy and less bitter than some red can be. The beans were good. Overall a good meal. I appreciated that they were happy to pack things for us separately in away that was convenient for me to pack our thermoses. I only got a photo of the meal in the thermos. A 2 tamale and 2 side plate + one additional tamale and chile sauces filled up 2 thermoses perfectly and was enough food for me and my husband for lunch (we did have a big New Mexican breakfast with several sopapillas elsewhere before!)

As soon as we pull in the parking lot full. That's always a good sign. We go check in to get a table with a party of five and we're told it's about hour wait. We stay and we waited maybe 20 minutes or so. The server took our drink order immediately along with delivering fresh chips and salsa to the table. I ordered the Mexican pizza with grilled fajita chicken. It was very good! The ambience is casual and relaxing. It's worth the trip!

After being away from NM for many years I am back and having one New Mexican meal a day. Today I came here and had my usual stuffed sopapilla with ground beef Christmas style. The chile was mid. Not much flavor wasn't hot or spicy the beans were ok and so was the rice. Service was good. I prob would not go back.

Carne Adovada, pork in red chili sauce with rice, pinto beans and cheese.

I wanted to experience true New Mexican cuisine while in Albuquerque. A local recommended Monroe's. So on a rainy evening i went and tried two local dishes that are popular and very traditional to New Mexico. I started with Posole, a kind of stew/soup made with pork, hominy, and red chilis. WOW! It was chunky, slightly spicy and hearty. A cup was only $5. The chilis give the stew a real earthy flavor. This was very good. My main entree was the Carne Adovada platter. See the picture. It was huge, fresh, aromatic and colorful. Again, it was chunks of tender pork in a red chili sauce. It came with rice and pinto beans, cheese, and lettuce and tomato. It was filling. It was delicious! It reminded me of a cross between Mexican food and Cuban cuisine. That's my impression. I really liked the New Mexican cuisine, much better than Mexican food. Monroe's is in a new modern building. The space is large and very casual. It was an 8/10 on cleanliness. Lots of staff constantly checking in. It has a cafeteria feel in a way. I ordered the stew as a starter but both dishes arrived together in about 5 minutes. I think they could slow things down a bit to keep a nice "non rushed" atmosphere. The food is definitely worth coming for. Lots of good stuff for a modest price in a new building.

Great food, located in rustic Martinez/Old Town area. We enjoyed awesome service, the food speaks for itself. Ambiance is filled with employees cleaning floors. Our waiter never returned bug we were picked up by a nice person.

This is probably my 10th review for Monroe's! Like previous reviews, nothing has changed and I am obsessed with this restaurant. First, I love the architecture! The huge glass windows are beautiful! It makes for a great view of the Sandias and the landscape surrounding the building. It also displayed the Christmas tree wonderfully in December. Secondly, I admire the staff. The management must be superb, because I have seen loyal employees there for years. I love how they work together to accommodate everyone's needs. Lastly, the food is great! Serving traditional New Mexican food, that won't disappoint :) Give it a try :)

We had the guacamole and salsa, I recommend mixing them together, they pair surprisingly well. A little pricey at $9.60 for the plate. For entrees, we had the green chile chicken enchiladas and carne adovada Christmas style. The latter is one of the most distinct and delicious regional dishes I've had. All entrees had really nice pairings with pinto beans, potato hash, and freshly cooked sopapillas. We chose to have the sopapillas with honey as a dessert, but there's the option to stuff them with the entree.

We stuck a few quarters into the meter that couldn't be read, and we walked into the restaurant. We were greeted at the door and given several options for seating including outdoor seating. We took a table in the entry way, not in the main restaurant. It was a quaint spot overlooking the patio section out front of the restaurant. A server met us, took our drink order, and we placed a few appetizer orders. We got some chile con queso, and the chicharron. They initially brought out the queso in two small plastic to-go containers. I was not very thrilled with that. Then, when we polished them off, they brought out some more in a small serving dish. Why we didn't get the dish in the first place is beyond me. The queso was good, but I didn't think much of the chicharron. My husband like it though. The server did an excellent job keeping our drinks filled. We placed our order, and it wasn't too long that our orders came out. I got the combination plate, red sauce, ground beef taco. My husband thought he ordered the enchilada plate, but the chile relleno plate came out instead. He told them that was fine. The ground beef taco was so delicious. The chile relleno was pretty good, and the cheese enchiladas were okay, even though it was like they were barely there. The pinto beans, not refried beans, were also enjoyed. What really set them apart was their papas - those potatoes were soft and super flavorful. Their red sauce was spicy and flavorful. The server brought out two fresh and hot sopapillas. We poured honey on those things bite by bite. I honestly think those were the best sopapillas I've had. I also used the restroom before we left. It might need a little updating, but it was certainly clean.

As for the dining experience, you order your food at the counter, find a table, and wait for your number to pop up on the little overhead screen (shown in my photos). There are about three different dining areas, each with its own unique decor and character. Once your order is ready, you pick it up at the end of the counter where you ordered, grab your utensils from the utensil station, and dig in! They even have bussers walking around to collect your plates when you're finished, making the whole experience easy and convenient. The salsa is fantastic. We ordered our meals and the food came out in a timely manner. Unfortunately, our server brought the sopapillas at the same time as the meal ... by the time we ate them they were cold. Oh well. My husband ordered the carne adovada. He thought that unlike the description on the menu, the meat was not at all lean but rather a bit fatty. He did enjoy the flavor of the pork. I had a chicken taco salad. It was very good. My daughter ordered something vegetarian and she also enjoyed hers. When we were finished with our huge entrees, we sat through the remainder of the time with piles of dirty dishes while we tried to find room on the table to eat our sopapillas. "Tasty Mexican treats in North Valley area"…read more Came here at 12:35pm on a Saturday afternoon with a group of 5. There are cameras outside around much of the building that repeatedly audibly warn you that you are being recorded, which was a bit funny but fine. As others have written, you need to enter from the side door. The people working clearly did not love that we arrived with a larger group, but they nonetheless accommodated us after about a 15 minute wait. The restaurant was HOPPING, with others also waiting for tables. They apparently are a bit famous for their Mexican wedding cake, which they told us is nearly always gone by noon. The overall place was down-home, spanning two large rooms, and relatively brightly lit due to the big windows. I ordered the large combo plate, which came with a beef taco, a cheese & onion enchilada, and a chile relleno with Christmas (red and green) chile sauce. There were also refried beans and rice on the side. Food came in maybe 10-15 minutes. The beef taco was good--nicely ground meat, good fresh veggies on top. No unusual toppings and no salsa or the like, but good. The cheese & onion enchilada was fine--not my favorite, but it was alright. However, for me, the delight was the chile relleno with the chile sauce: absolutely scrumptious. If I came back, I'd just order that, or maybe 2, or maybe 3. So good, so flavorful. The chile sauce was a bit spicy for me, but I absolutely loved its flavor. Service was good especially given how crowded it was. They still checked on us and brought us drink refills. The biggest delight was the price. With tip and tax, I think we paid around $74. Not bad at all for a big dinner for 5 people! I'd recommend, especially if you go for the chile rellenos!

The waitress was friendly but clearly stretched given the number of people in the restaurant. Food came out in about 10 minutes.
