I have been in town long enough to remember the old diner which was great. When it reopened it wasn't as good but it was an average diner. Went about a month ago and the final straw was they don't even make home fries anymore with breakfast - they serve those frozen potato strings like you would get in a school cafeteria. At $15 a person for breakfast you can do better - I was embarrassed for them. They said that they switched to the frozen crap because the potatoes they ordered from their supplier were often moldy. Get a new supplier then - don't serve garbage to your customers. Super nice people and the eggs and coffee were fine. Service was slow and it wasn't full. I guess they can get away with this now that Kings is gone and there is no competition. read more

This place is gone way downhill. The prices are completely out of control ever since they redid their menu a couple years ago. They cut so much from their menu. Their food is below average (sometimes returned) for anything but soup and breakfast. For two people to eat breakfast... 3 pancake special for one person and scrambled eggs with bacon for the other... It came to $35!!! The eggs don't come with anything. The omelets don't come with anything - not even cheese. That's absolutely absurd. There is an upcharge for every little thing. This didn't used to be the way with them. Scrambled eggs with bacon cost us more than the pancake special. The hash browns are soggy, and clearly have been sitting for days in the fridge and then reheated in a pan or microwave. They looked so unappetizing that I wouldn't even try them. Toast is cold and soggy with butter. Eggs aren't seasoned at all. The service is beyond slow. They are friendly, which I will give them as a positive. However, everything else at this place has become an epic failure. We used to frequent here very often. I don't anticipate us being back. Try Galaxy Diner in Bridgeport or Chip's in Fairfield. Chip's is especially good and much more affordable. read more

Lot of bad Yelp reviews for the Monroe Diner, but it didn't stop us from having breakfast there yesterday. We went with our "standard diner order" for breakfast -- me, pancakes w/ a side of sausage, her, a bacon, cheese & tomato omelet. Honestly, everything was decent and fresh tasting, couldn't complain about anything on our plates. Service was excellent, Mary B was our waitress, she was friendly and attentive. I was traveling through this area in Connecticut for work. It was 7pm and I was starving. Not many choices in the area. Saw this diner and stopped. Well very happy I did. Very impressed. One of the best turkey clubs I have ever had. I know I know. A turkey club. How can you screw it up. Well trust me places do. This one was real sliced turkey. NOT lunch meat turkey. Fresh lettuce. Fresh cooked bacon. Toasted just right. Perfect amount of mayo. And a side of good thick fries. Came with cole slaw to but I don't eat cole slaw. Waitress was very nice and friendly. Observed hostess standing at the bar with out a mask as well as wait staff going in and out of the kitchen with out a mask. Staff just chatting at the counter with out masks. Service can be slow at times but I have never had a bad meal! The burgers are actually really good for a diner, I think the burgers there are some of the best burgers in town! Pros: This is a nice space. I'd say it's above average for a dinner in terms of atmosphere. They also have cute little lunchbox tins for the kid's crayons and a nice variety of surprisingly high quality pictures to color. That's where my pros end, unfortunately. I ordered the veggie and cheese wrap and asked for a side salad. The wrap came out smelling like burn and that's because the grill marks were totally burned though the rest of the wrap was cool. They seemed to have put it on a too hot grill and instead of turning it down and trying again, they just decided it was good. Well, the wrap was inedible because it just tasted like char. So I tried pulling the veggies out. Eggplant, roasted red pepper, zuchinni and squash. They didn't cut them up enough. Huge chunks. And the taste just wasn't very pleasing. Not well enough seasoned to be alone in a burned wrap with some mozzarella. As for the side salad? They just tossed a clump of spring mix on my plate. Nothing in it. So unappetizing. No thanks. The kid's meals were ridiculously priced for what they got. They weren't your standard diner tenders and that's a bad thing in this case. They were uncommonly thin, small, and hard. The service wasn't too great either. Our waitress was attentive enough for a diner but she never asked if something was wrong with my meal given how I'd pulled it apart and hardly ate it, and the woman at the desk didn't say a word to me while she quickly charged my card. This is a typical New England diner with decent food offered at good prices. I've been here at least six times, with the last time being yesterday for brunch. I ordered the eggs bene and subbed the bacon for avocado. My meal was tasty, and the home fries were outstanding. It was one of the better eggs bene in the area from a diner. The Monroe Diner is my favorite place to stop for lunch and dinner when I'm back home in CT! Awesome service and awesome food! A+ for the interior - classic diner look but with a modern twist. This is the perfect place to catch up with friends. My favorite for lunch is definitely their salads- especially the Greek Salad. I usually find myself choosing between the salads or their specials (they change daily). I could seriously come eat here every single day. I can't wait to be back in the area to stop by! The Place looks great. Food how ever is another story.Ordered their 5 star pastrami. Sandwich consisted of 4 pieces of pastrami,two slices of tomato and two slices of onion for $7.95. Entire sandwich including bread was less then 1/4 inch thick..Go to katz deli. for the same price you get a sandwich that is 3 inches thick. i told the owner and he insisted on me taking another sandwich.Second one was same size but pastrami was so dry i could not chew it.... Great to be back at the 'new' Diner after 12 years or so! The old one had more energy and always seemed to be crowded and full, and Sundays there were super full. Had a cheeseburger and gyros and French onion soup, but the ones at the old place were greasier and more tasty and came wrapped in foil. Still good, tho. I stopped there for breakfast two weeks ago. I ordered two eggs over hard with ham. The ham came on a separate plate. It was white with brown spots on it. I am not exactly sure what it was. The eggs were over easy. They took back the ham and when I told them that my eggs weren't done properly she rolled her eyes and said that they can't please everyone. I had a few problems with this place. There wasnt enough seating for only 5 people, so they needed to push tables together in the middle of the room; get bigger booths. Secondly, no lemons with the water's. Lastly, I ordered a CHICKEN and cheese quesadilla, and got a cheese quesadilla, which is fine, except when I bought it up to the waitress she insisted several times, "no no, you said cheese." No. I didn't. I know what I ordered. My whole table just heard me say chicken. I've waitressed, just apologize. Just say you misheard me and switch it out, it's not that hard. I can't stand the typical worn-down, battered-looking diner, reeking of the depressing stench of shattered dreams. This place is modern and cheerful, so I thought I'd give them a try. I've had a thing for a few years now for real maple syrup, to the point where I won't eat that nasty maple-flavored corn sweetener that most places serve you, so as a result, I generally only eat my fave breakfast food (pancakes) at home. But when I saw a big sign, "Genuine Vermont Maple Syrup", I eagerly ordered up the 2x2x2 breakfast ($7.95). Surprise! When it came, I got a pot of suspiciously viscous, flavorless goo with a layer of decidedly non-maple "pond scum" clinging to the top. I asked the server about the "Genuine Vermont Maple Syrup". She told me that it was an "upgrade", at $2.00 per ounce. Pass. I'm here to buy breakfast, not a new car...I'm not interested in the ups and extras. The pancakes weren't bad at all, nice consistency and flavor. Probably would have been a treat with real maple syrup. Eggs were fresh and cooked to order. Sausages were skinless and dry as dust. A side order of home fries ($3.25) were insipid and dull...just not worth the work of eating them. They were an orange color, but there was no detectable flavor at all except potato. Service was so-so. Tellingly, no one ever asked how the meal was, including the owner or manager who didn't even look up when he rang us out at the register. I won't be back, but if you don't mind dull-as-dishwater food at high prices, the decor is pleasant and the location is great. read more

The c.b.hash was obviously homemade, with bits of onion and sweet pepper, small chunks of potatoes. ...and wonderful corned beef. SATURDAY MID-MORNING BREAKFAST REVIEW I would have given 4 stars but they fell extremely short on service. We were seated and forgotten. I had to go up and remind them that we were waiting for awhile. To their credit, everything kicked into overdrive for our initial order. The downside was that we waited an extremely long time to get our food and we also had to get someone's attention to get a coffee refill. The place was busy but there's no excuse when your delivering food to the table next to us and you never even look our way. It's just too easy to ask how we're doing. No complaints on the food. Had a guys night out with my sons and we stopped in for dinner. Both sons loved what they ordered. One had a Pastrami sandwich that said it was one of the best he's ever had and my other son had a stack of pancakes with a couple of eggs over easy. I went with a classic club sandwich and it was very good as well. The staff was all friendly and attentive. The one small thing that I could say was the waitress specifically asked if we wanted lemon with our drinks and never brought any. Bleh. I've been to this diner quite a few times, sadly only because it's convenient to where I live. All of the food is pretty forgettable. Just had the French toast tonight and was extremely disappointed with it. Barely any flavor, and the texture and overall preparation was just wrong. I had the matzoh ball soup as well, which is probably the best thing I've had so far. Good, but nothing to write home about. The interior is, in my opinion, very unattractive and does not help with the atmosphere at all. It always seems quite crowded here (probably because there is NOTHING else to do in this town!!) but there never seems to be enough servers. I will say that my servers have always been very pleasant, which is a plus! Overall this diner is very mediocre. Like I said, I usually just come here out of convenience to meet with friends, but I would never go out of my way for this place. I wish I could say better things about this diner. Me and my kids went there for dinner tonight and had a pretty bad experience. First off, we waited 20 minutes for a waitress to come over to our table. And the only reason that she came over is because I had to flag down the girl who sets up the tables to get us a waitress. The waitress came over reeking of cigarette smoke. Yuck. My son ordered scrambled eggs which came out completely runny and raw. My salad had no dressing and I waited another 10 minutes for a cup of salad dressing. And then to top it all off, as we were eating dinner, the girl at the front desk was screaming at another worker right in front of everyone in the restaurant. So awkward and uncomfortable! The three stars are for the food but the two I didn't give are for the service. Honesty is the best policy when you make a mistake. Not lying and telling the customer they're wrong. I called an order in and when I went to pick it up 10 minutes later they said they had no record of it. (I used the menu to order and my order was repeated back to me.) They said I must have called the wrong diner. The "other diner" in Monroe. Please enlighten me if there is another diner in Monroe. Then blamed it on "the other guy" who was no where to be found. Stopped in for quick bite. Stephani waited on me and she was very friendly and welcoming. Started with Caesar salad. Lettuce was nice and fresh. Only part I did not like hit some pieces which tasted as if on edge of freazing and had icy taste. For main course went with open Steak sandwich. Nice big piece of steak with little fat.
