For context, I rate products and businesses on a simple scale: 5 stars means I love it, 4 stars means I like it, 3 stars is okay, 2 stars means I didn't like it, and 1 star means I hated it or think it's unsafe. This is my third time at Monro Muffler in Rotterdam in the past two months. The first two visits were for tires on two different vehicles. They were able to accommodate me on consecutive days, which really helped me out. They gave me a great price on tires, better than other places I checked, and they offered recommendations at different price points without any pressure to go with the most expensive option. I appreciated that. Ed at the front desk was personable, helpful, and professional. I was very pleased with both appointments. Fast forward to this week when I needed my car inspected ASAP. I knew it was coming due, but I had a vacation planned and was going to handle it when I returned. A snowstorm messed up my plans, I could not get back when expected, and I had to cancel my dealership appointment. When I tried to reschedule, they were booked out a few weeks. A couple quick oil change places could not get me in until midweek either. I remembered my previous experiences at Monro on Chrisler Ave and called on my way to work. I told Ed I needed it done as soon as possible. He said he could take care of it that day and told me what time to bring it in. He got me in right away just like he said he would. It was done quickly and effortlessly. No attempt to sell me anything, just exactly what I asked for. Friendly interaction, great service, and consistency all three times. If I need tires, brakes, or mufflers in the future, this is where I am going. read more

6/2/25 The service was fine but I won't be going back. The front man was condescending, rude and worthless for simple answers. He couldn't answer any questions, just rolled his eyes and murmured at best. My ask was simple, for future reference, with one of my personals and/or my work vehicles how can I be the first one on the lift? His answers varied from its hit or miss to appointments don't work or you have to leave your car over the weekend. Really? My patience amazed me as not once did I loose my cool, although I had every right to. You can try an appointment but its not a guarantee. Okay then tell me how the guy that came in after me that you were high fiving and laughing with got in before me? Oh he had an appointment. Hmm? So appointments do work. Which lie are you going with? Okay, so approximately how long will it take, maybe I'll get a ride and come back. Oh, an inspection could take a half day more or less. Another non-answer. The narcissism was stark and he somehow tried to intimate that the reason he can't answer any simple question is because its Monday, inspections are complicated, we take appointments but they don't work and there's no point in getting here at opening time because any one of his cronies can stroll in and trump you. So I'm thinking Monro doesn't like people who just come in for inspections, so I asked if he would like to do an oil change while on the lift, thinking maybe this will jar his intelligence. He said sure, then I made the grave mistake of asking APROXIMATELY, how long that will take (because I have responsibilities to customers that I respect and need to base my decision on such factors). Again I wasn't looking for a hand out, only a simple answer. His answer was c'mon its Monday. My voice was steady and calm through the whole humorous episode, but then I had to match his rudeness and volume. That was it for him. Then I was denied oil change service, which of course I was fine with because I didn't want it anyway. I've been on the planet for sixty years plus and have seen a lot of unprofessionalism, but this guy was absolutely horrible. I'm from out of town and looking for trustworthy support services. Monro at Altamont and Chysler is definitely not it. This is the first time I've ever expended myself to post a review and kudos to him for that. That wasn't the first time I experienced his moronic disposition and a colleague shared the same experience with him. Hey Monro, do the right thing by your customers and train that lacky in common respect and customer service. Maybe give him a raise to aid in helping him enjoy his career more or at least not take it out on paying customers. Im sure being a Muffler repair Clerk your entire adult career isn't the most rewarding, but he should try to have some pride for community sake. I won't hold my breath. All I needed was my moms car inspected, $280.00 later. They are good in preying on women. They said filters needed to be changed, oil change, alignment needed, wiper. Ok wiper missing, new tires put on car last July, my mom put on maybe 1200 miles. What a scam. then 4 days later car was acting up, took it back, this time it needed spark plugs, a coil and tun-up all for $485.00. Called my brother he ordered the parts all donefor $125.00. I went there for a coolant flush because my coolant light was blinking red. they told I wouldn't recommend a coolant flush because my radiator was leaking And my fan need to be replaced as well as I needed a new timing belt. All that came up to 2070. I asked him twice. Is this gonna fox the problem because 2070 is a lot of money to waste and he guaranteed me that woukd fix the problem and I should be great. So I paid them. Fast forward now I pick the car moms you they had the car for almost a month cause I wanted to give them enough time to fix it. Got the car everything was okay all the parts they used looked old like they ain't get new parts but he said they were new parts and I left the car shop and the coolant light wasn't on. Later that day I drive to work and the light comes on and my car got smoke coming out and it's leaking coolant like you could see a line trailing behind my car. Took it back the next morning he told it had a air bubble so he refilled it with coolant let it run for a little and I left. He told me that they drive the car for twice for 30 and one for 45 min shows they drove it once for 30 minute. I let them know that they were lying but he skipped pass what I said and said they car should be good now. 45 minutes later the light comes on AGAIN and took it back the same day than he tell me the new thermostat they put in was faulty and he put a new new on in. at this point I'm frustrated and I'm like if it comes in again I just want a refund and the manger is like we will discuss it and they keep the for a good 3 hours than I came to pick it up l notice they took my snapshot out so I wouldn't show If they drive the car or not which was very suspicions but he said he took it out to check the coolant level which the coolant thing wasn't nowhere near that but he said the car was good for sure now IT HAPPENED AGAIN now I'm mad and I tell them I want a refund it's no way I'm just losing out on 2070 and he like we did a lot of work on the car so we can't give you a refund but Im like I still have the same problem and it just look like y'all took my money. I brought my car in for a routine oil change. They told me the tech said it needed a new oil gasket, wheel alignment, brake pads and rotors, and an exhaust part and charged me over $1000. When they gave the car back to be, all my indicator lights were on so I brought it back for them to fix. The manager told me the tech who worked on my car was incompetent and didn't know what they thought he knew about cars. After a few days at Monro on Chrisler Ave in Schenectady, they informed me that the car was safe to drive but since the lights were still on, I should take it to a dealership and have them fix it. They would cover the expense. I was told by the mechanic at the dealer that it was definitely NOT safe to drive. All in all they only covered the actual cost at the dealer and not any of my other expenses or the cost of the services the incompetent tech insisted I needed. read more

I had a great experience! I called the evening before telling them my car was shaking and the scheduled me for the next morning at 830. they got my car in right away. I needed to be out by a certain time they managed to fix everything and have me out in time. They explained all the work in detail and showed under the car. My inspection was past due but bc of the fixes they went ahead and did it for me for no extra charge. my bill was very high but they have a great program called easy pay which made it possible for me to still get the work done without coming out of pocket. I went to California for a year and come back to find that this is under new management. I figured I had such good service and luck here before that I'd try it again, I just needed an oil change and to get my car inspection renewed. They told me they would fail me if I didn't buy their wipers, which I understand is part of the inspection. I'm a wiper QUEEN, I go through windshield wiper fluid like it's free, I love a clean windshield which is why when they said mine needed replacing I was extremely confused but went along with it (even though the wipers were super over priced and AWFUL!!! they didn't work nearly as well as the ones I just replaced that were less then a year old) ugh. Then I got my oil changed which to my knowledge went fine, they mentioned some things I needed to get done but I declined. I did notice they gave less then 3,000 miles till my next change (what?). So that was experience one, so I'm back for another Oil Change, I'm a little salted about the wipers but let me give them another try. The oil change took 45 minutes, they took my car around the block, why? I have no idea. Did they ask if they could? No. Then stated I need my break pads replaced and they are squeaking (they aren't..), and that I should replaced my power steering fluid cause it's dirty and needs replacing (that would mean there's ANOTHER problem, did they think I was a stupid girl). I thanked them and said I'd come back to address issues next paycheck. Whatever they lied first. Interesting that they are running a promotion on break pads just as mine "wore out". I called three days ahead of time and made an appointment for tire swap. I showed up guy is smoking outside looking at me like I don't belong there. Tell him I'm there to have my tires swapped. He asks if I had an appointment I said yes I was 10 minutes early. He said that I didn't have an appt and that his machine was broken and couldn't help me. I showed him the number I called and he confirmed it was him but still denied making the appt. did not offer to reschedule me or anything at all. Waste of my time will never go back read more

Man Im so frutrated beyond words. I've been at it with these guys, I got my car in for an inspection but had a check engine light on, code read "small evap gas leak" They did the test and everything told ne all of a sudden I needed a brand new gas tank (very shady since I never leaked gasoline) I went ahead replace the tabk spent more than $1,100 for the work and now I cant even fill he whole gas tabk because the gas will leak! He inspected my car and passed my inspection. 2 days later the same light with the same code came on, I ve took my car 4 times now and the last time they told me I need a $600 part replaced. What!? He said he was gonna call me back, a week passed dint call I ended up calling and guy was on "vacation" what is going on in this place?! Total nightmare something needs to happen here? I then said I wanted to keep searching they got mad.  I'm on a budget sorry I want to be sure I'm getting a good product for the best price.  My wife called the same day and was quoted 20% MORE for the same tires.  Shady. Shady.  I ended up going to a shop across the street after Mavis tried scaring me into doing fluid services that could wait until next pay day.  Forget these large Corp chains.  They just care about getting as many customers in the door as possible.  Dream Autos, The place across the street has ASE certified technician and the owners are right there to greet you and work on your car. read more

My daughter's 1998 Volvo suddenly started up with a very loud noise, leaving no doubt the issue was the muffler. A friend suggested I call Monro so I set up an appointment for later in the morning. Mark, the manager put the car on the lift and he and the mechanic saw the problem, pointing out the cause of the noise. The fix could be $2000 or they could cut some pipe, add some pipe, do welding and it would solve the problem for the life of the car. Hey, it's a Volvo....I figure it's got a lot more life in it even at 175k miles. So the repair was done and a couple of hours later we were on our way. Terrible! I went to drop my car off because it had been making a rotating thudding noise while driving (any speed) and because there was a rattling sound, which I suspected was the heat shield over the exhaust. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted with "Last name?". I provided my name to which the guy at the desk said, "I don't see you listed and I have an inspection and an oil change coming in, so there's going to be a wait". I looked at him and said, "I haven't made an appointment and I'm planning on dropping my car off due to some noises". He said, Oh and then asked for my name again. I then explained that I hadn't been there for my car yet but my husband had so I gave him his information and he pulled that up. I explained the noises/situations that were occurring with my car and he said that they would take a look at it first thing in the morning. Next day, I called at 12:40pm because I hadn't heard from them yet and the same guy that I spoke with the day before answered. His name is Roy and he's the manager. He said that they haven't been able to duplicate the sounds but that they were going to take it out for another drive to check. I re-explained that if they drive the car on a newer road, the thudding is more pronounced and would help. By 5pm I hadn't heard anything on the status so I called back. Roy answered and said, "Oh yea, it's all set. We did the inspection". I immediately said "What inspection?!?" He said, "If I can finish, we did the inspection and we took the heat shield off which was making the rattling noise, but we couldn't hear any thudding". After some back and forth, I said that we would be over to pick the car up. When we get there, Roy is at the desk and says again that the inspection was done. I asked him what the heck he's talking about because I NEVER asked for an inspection since mine isn't due until November! He said that's what I scheduled the appointment for along with the noises. I told him I NEVER made an appointment and was a walk-in. I then told him that he was rude and unprofessional by not greeting me the day before, for doing an inspection that was not requested, and upon him admitting that his worker questioned the inspection because of the November date, he NEVER called me to confirm! He sat there and argued with me and kept saying it was a misunderstanding and not until I was getting ready to leave did he apologize. He then also said that the inspection was $21 and he gave me a $10 coupon, but I would have to pay the remaining $11 and talk with corporate if I wanted a refund.
