    My 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser (SUV) is one of my most prized possessions. I love the way it looks (no rust) and the engine itself is in wonderful condition, serving me well as a performing/traveling musician in the Northeast. Recently (February 2020) my clutch started to go as no surprise at 160,000 miles and I began searching for a shop to have a new clutch installed. The first place I brought it to was highly recommended, but unfortunately, the work that was done left me unsatisfied, as my newly installed transmission/clutch system began to make strange chirping/whistling sounds, which was progressively getting worse. I took it back to the shop to be looked at on two different occasions and I was told the first time that a few areas needed to be tightened and no other problems were found. The second time I took it back, the shop confirmed an issue with the throw out bearing but they wouldn't be able to work on it for weeks down the road. Enter Gil's Garage in Clifton Park: Since I needed to have some other critical repairs made such as replacing front struts, CV Joints, alignment etc., and the first shop I took it to only does transmissions - I checked the reviews and decided that I might take it up to Gil's Garage Of Halfmoon for an overall assessment/diagnosis of my vehicles situation and also get a second opinion on the recent clutch installation that was done. I have to say, I was totally blown away by how meticulous and caring the entire team is at Gil's Garage of Halfmoon. After dropping off my vehicle overnight - I received a call from Paul the next day to update me on their findings. He communicated to me every detail and even offered to send me a series of photos of what they saw with regards to the clutch. There was some very bad news with regards to a worn throw out bearing support shaft which happens to be a part of the transmission case/bell housing. I appreciated the directness and commitment to find a solution. Paul told me he would be seeking out a number of options to run past me. As a musician I am on a tight budget and this repair had the potential of being upwards of $2500.00 and that's just the clutch repair using dealer parts resulting in the repair being far outside my price range, forcing me to purchase a new car and begin making hefty monthly payments. After Paul made numerous calls/detective work to find a work around solution - he found a kit that would solve the transmission issue and have the pricing come in at a fraction of the original cost. I am convinced that I would have been extremely hard pressed to find a company such as Gil's Garage of Halfmoon that would truly go above and beyond in such a manner. It's obvious to me how passionate the Gil's Team is about their work and the safety of their customers. Gil's Garage gave my Toyota FJ and I a new lease on life. I found out later that Paul is the owner and he was simply helping out his staff due to vacation schedules. Most other garages would have told me it was time to purchase a new vehicle or overcharge me for a lesser repair, but what I am driving now is a new vehicle indeed! It just happens to be my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser! :-) I just can't say enough how happy I am with the entire experience. In such a crazy/apathetic world we are living in, Gil's Garage of Halfmoon and its employees have brought me some new found faith and I will surely be a loyal customer right to the end! I have had a problem finding a tire center that mounts tires, without scratching and marring the surface of the wheels. I have expensive alloy wheels on cars. When I went into the shop, I met Kyle, who came out to the car and actually helped me bring wheels into the shop. He took the time to address my concerns, and to explain why the damage was happening at other shops. It was the type of mounting equipment that they were using, and that what they use would prevent this from happening. I dropped them off and had a call that they were done within a half hour. I went to pick them up and as promised, no issues with damage to the wheels. I finally found a place that I look forward to returning to. The shop is brand new, clean and inviting. Kyle was personable, knowledgeable and professional. He helped me load everything in my car (kept the old tires). Great experience all around. I will be back. Thank you.

I expected a proper diagnostic to confirm the issue before any work was done. Shortly thereafter, The mechanic confirmed that it was the starter, but it would cost nearly $900. That is half a months salary for a young person like me, but I felt I had little choice. After the repair, the same problems starting my car persisted. When I returned, the mechanic checked my car again and admitted that the real problem was actually a corroded battery, and acknowledged that the original diagnostic was not done properly. I asked for a refund since they had misdiagnosed the issue and charged me for a repair that didn't address the actual problem. At first, the mechanic who made the error was willing to take responsibility and refund me, but later the shop backtracked and offered a free battery instead, which nowhere near offset the cost of the starter. Monro's side of the story started out apologetic and offering to work with me (everyone makes mistakes and those that own up should be given a second chance was my thinking). However, with each altering version of Monro's side, it sounded more more defensive and "it is your fault", adding salt to the wound. They even tried to place the blame on me for "suggesting" that it could be the starter--despite it being their responsibility as professionals to diagnose the problem properly. This experience was incredibly frustrating. I paid nearly $900 for a repair I didn't need and was left with the original issue unresolved. At the end of the day, it is a mechanic's job to diagnose the problem, not the customer's. I can't recommend this shop and would strongly suggest an alternative shop particularly if you not knowledgeable in automotives and rely on the accurate diagnostics / professionals service of the mechanics.

Had to run and do some errands and that's when I had the issue with my tire. What happens if it caused an accident?? How do you leave a big piece like that in a tire??? Place is a joke. Five Stars for the manager and tall young man. ---------------- I came in today to replace my almost-dead car battery. A friendly employee informed me that it would take one to one and a half hours. After waiting about two hours, I checked with the front desk, where a man with black-framed glasses told me the battery hadn't arrived yet and was still on the way. I asked if he could check the battery's status and estimate when my car would be ready, but he said he didn't know. I explained that I needed to go home soon and asked if someone could give me a ride, but he just said no. Yes, he simply said no and didn't provide any helpful information, instead trying to brush me off. About 30 minutes later, I asked the same man again about the battery. He said it still hadn't arrived and mentioned he wasn't responsible for delivering the battery (or something to that effect -- I don't remember his exact words). I told him that I needed to go home soon and wanted my car back. He insisted that I couldn't drive my car because the battery was dead. When I asked for a jump-start, he refused, even though I had driven my car there using a jump-starter. Since I was able to drive my car to the shop, I believed it should have been possible to jump-start it again. Despite my repeated requests to get my car back if they couldn't replace the battery soon, he ignored me, walked to the work area, and dismissively said, "Whatever." ------------ ( FIVE STARS for the manager and the tall young man ) Later, I spoke with the manager. The manager promptly checked the battery status and ensured I got home in time for my meeting. Thanks to the manager's help, I made it home on time. I also want to thank the tall young man who assisted me with checking the battery, the driver status, and the check-in and check-out process. ------------ However, I am very disappointed by the man with the glasses and beard. His behavior was rude and irresponsible. I chose not to argue with him because I am pregnant, but his actions made me feel genuinely upset.
