    Review Highlights - Ayers Automotive

Steve said they closed more than three years ago, which left me with a leaking radiator down the block, and no trusted mechanic.

He met with the owner and his son- John Aidala and Steven Aidala, the day before, Being the Matriarch of the family, I felt he should be buying from a larger know company. The neighborhood has deteriorated over the last 30 years and to be honest, I was reluctant to even drive there. Talk about a step back in time-the 79 yr old owner was sitting right there in a 1970's desk, personally greeting anyone that came through the door. All the paperwork was really to be reviewed and more than satisfactory. The inspection had been done at the closest dealers. The son advised me he would pick up my Brother at his home, later that day. "They" would complete everything at the DMV and my Brother could drive his new car home that day. John was reminiscing about "our" school days-we all attended Vincentian Institute. This was written in November when we purchased the car, yet Yelp somehow buried it. It says…read moresomething that I went looking for it months later to make sure our great experience was shared! We just purchased a used car from Quail Auto Sales and could not have had a better buying experience! We had been looking for a car for our son for a long time at numerous dealerships. Although there had been cars at other dealerships that we were interested in enough to purchase, we never found sales staff that made us feel comfortable that the information we were given was reliable. For us the car was important; but equally as important was feeling that we had gotten a fair deal and trusting that what we were buying was without hidden issues. This is why we purchased from John and Steve Aidala. Their dealership is locally owned and has been for many years. The Aidala's have been part of the Albany community and pride themselves in maintaining a superior standard of service and fair business practice. We saw the car online on a rainy Saturday 30 minutes prior to Quail Auto Sales closing for that day. My husband called to make sure that they were still open and that the car was on their lot. Their website said they were not open on Sundays and we knew that this Prius was a great find. John answered the phone and my husband asked if he could make it there 10 minutes before closing, could he still look at the car? John told him that the rain would make it difficult to really look at the car and he would be happy to meet him there the next day to show him the car, even though they aren't open on Sunday. Every single interaction after that was the same good customer service, fair dealings and just an over all good feeling purchasing a car from them. I will return again to buy from Quail Auto and have recommended them to friends and family.

I brought my car to Gochee's Garage because it would not start. I was told the issue was a faulty…read morefuel pump and was charged approximately $1,800 for the repair. When I picked up the car and began driving it home, it immediately started running roughly and the check engine light began blinking -- indicating an active misfire. This serious issue did not exist when I originally brought the car in. I returned the vehicle the next business day. Rather than re-checking their work or considering that these symptoms appeared immediately after the fuel pump repair, the shop diagnosed a completely different issue (spark plugs) and charged me an additional $900. What was most frustrating was being told that these were "two separate problems," that the timing was "just a coincidence," and that it was reasonable to pay full price for both repairs -- even though the second issue only appeared after the first repair and was not caught during the initial diagnosis. While it was acknowledged that it was highly unlikely the spark plugs happened to fail on the exact same day as the fuel pump replacement, the shop refused to consider the possibility that something was missed or that something occurred during the repair. After posting a review, the owner publicly stated that he hoped to discuss the matter further and work toward a resolution. I followed up with a direct email, but more than two weeks passed without any response. Given the lack of follow-through, I have filed a formal complaint with the New York State DMV so that a neutral third party can review the situation and find a resolution. I am sharing this experience so future customers are aware -- not only of the repair outcome, but also of what happened afterward. I expected the shop to stand behind its work when new problems appeared immediately following a major repair. That did not happen here, and I cannot recommend this shop.

My Toyota dealer…read more(doesn't matter which because they all stink equally) during my free routine service told me I needed new tires and quoted me a high number. Went to Labarges. They told my nope. My tires were good. Another routine service. The dealer said I needed new brakes. Labarges agreed, but half as expensive. Most recently. My fan was making a weird noise so I thought they might cover the repair since I was at 40k miles, just outside the warranty of course. They also noticed my state inspection was overdue. Had to pay the dealer a $189 "diagnostic fee" to discover it was just acorns clogging a filter so I needed a need filter and of courses the acorns removed. $21 for state inspection which is failed because I didn't realize this, but I had two chipped taillights (my daughter is 17 and I'll leave it at that) so I'm $250 into the dealer and they tell me it's another $700+ to repair the taillights. So I stop at Labarges. They tell me to go to a junk yard or eBay and order a left inner and a right outer tail light and they'll pop them in for me. $155 on eBay brand new. And I happened to have a slow leak so they said that the sensor is starting to go, it he cleaned it up, but the aluminum sensors are garbage so they wanted me I'll likely need to replace them eventually. Charge to replace the headlights, cleanup sensor, and repair slow leak. $50 because it took them 30 minutes to do all that work. They charge you for the time they spend. A novel thought no? For anyone looking for a mechanic, why go anywhere else? They saved me over $1,000 on my most recent visits from what the dealer wanted to charge me.
