Avoid going to this location if you can. This is my first & last time going to this location. I missed my scheduled appointment at Goodyear for an inspection. On the drive home noticed the Mavis & said "what the hell let me check if they can get me in". There was a person waiting on their inspection to be done. Told me it would be a few mins, I said no problem & gave them my info. They pull my van in, take off the 2 front tires, shake my back tires, & call me out to my van. Let me add my 2 rear tires were replaced last week at Goodyear. I was told my driver side back tire had an issue & my breaks/rotor needed to be replaced. The employee working the counter asked me if I wanted them to continue. I asked if my van would pass or fail, he said fail, I said don't finish. Paid the $21 fee & immediately called Warren on State St. They serviced my van multiple times. If you have any issues go to them. They scheduled me for an inspection Monday (today) & said they would take a look. Got my inspection done after showing the employees at Warren the receipt stating why my van failed. Took them 25 minutes start to finish to check my van. Came out & said my breaks look like new & my rotor is fine. I already knew this because I had them replaced already. When there is nothing there & you hit your breaks, it sounds like gears grinding mixed with screeching. Not to mention Goodyear looked at all my tires & breaks just days before per my request. Called Mavis today to get the name of the person that performed the inspection. I was given his name, but the manager made is seem like I couldn't ask or get the employees name. I'm sure they saw a female alone & thought they could scam me out of getting work done. There are plenty of other shops in Schenectady. Warren on State has been my best experience when getting my car serviced. Goodyear was also great just ask for Scott. read more

Beware of Yelp listings with only one review. They may not be the best indication of a business. On a Sunday in Schenectady I found myself with a flat tire. Sunday is a terrible day to get a flat. So many mechanics take the day off. And with a tire that can hold a bit of air, but has a steady leak, there's only so far you can drive to get the problem fixed. Honestly, I was a little nervous about bringing the problem here. But I could not have imagined a better outcome. I called ahead and spoke with Cason on the phone. I rolled in and we confirmed the problem was fixable with a plug. After telling him my time constraints which involved picking up my kids, he was able to squeeze me onto a lift right away. While the car was being fixed I was offered a Bella Napoli donut. The waiting room was clean, with a clear view of the mechanics working on the cars and plenty of natural light. There is even free wifi. But I wasn't able to get any work done, because by the time I got my computer out and powered up, the repair was done. In under 20 minutes, I was out with a patched up tire for under $20. Seriously, this great experience turned my whole day around. Your milage may vary. If they only had brain!!! Literally the worst vehicle service center I have ever visited. I was just absolutely shocked at the disorganization, unreliability and overall lack of basic knowledge among the entire staff. I truly don't understand how a business could be run so poorly it just amazes me. They have zero respect or consideration for their clients. The lack of organization and management allows results in your "appointment" time meaning literally nothing. They will get to you when they feel like it. Doesn't matter if what time you reserved or order in which customers arrive. They appear to just pick and choose what they are in the mood for next. It doesn't matter if you are in for a quick repair or service or something that is more extensive and time consuming. You may get quick service like is advertised or you may not get your car back for days. There's no telling cuz they don't follow any type of structured schedule. This disorganization is inexcusable and just blatant disrespect to every paying customer that comes in the door. It's not that difficult to build and manage a schedule. Buyer beware they will most certainly make all types of promise's throughout your painful visit to this location. Please remember that any promise they make is strictly to make you shut up and make you feel comfortable for the time being. So I called in the AM right when they opened To make an appt to have tires put on... he made me an appt for 4 PM... I got there on time and I'm told wait would be hour and a half even with an appt. I also asked for a price quote and I was told 30 bucks per pair. While waiting 2 other ppl came in for service as walk-ins and their cars were pulled in before mine.. I eventually get brought in and took over 2 hours total to be done and that was with an appt... ended up being last one to leave shop. Made an appt. for an inspection at 9 am. Arrived at 9 am. Waited 2 and a half hours, car was never looked at. Car was never inspected. Excuse was the "inspection machine" was locked to the car they were inspecting and could not take the car off. If your car has so many issues that 2 and a half hours of work won't fix it, it probably should fail inspection and the mechanics should move on to the next car. read more

I checked the oil right after they changed it and the mark was over the MAX level of almost 2 quarts! This can cause serious damage to the engine and I'm really disappointed with their service. Shit service. Called the day before to get an appointment for a NYS inspection they said to come down before 3pm they can get the car in. Got to the shop the next day at 1 pm and the clerk refused to get the car in. Shop was empty and they still didn't want to take it in. I wanted to wait they said it has to be dropped off. Last year when I called mavis for a wheel alignment they said they have a coupon drop it off and they could take care of me. When I went to pick up the car they charged me for a 4 wheel alignment. Any auto tech could tell you that doing an 4wheel alignment on a 1992 Toyota Camry with rusted out bolts is pretty much impossible. Looked under car and the bolts are not even 'wet' with Wd-40 or similar. Back in the days Mavis was a respectable business. Those days are long gone. read more

Tires were supposed to be in the store already. I got there girl at that front desk was nice enough, but somehow the tire price went up and then they told me that I had to pay an extra $60 in taxes. Then the manager stepped in and tried to tell me that because they are a chain that there is no way to calculate the tax online.(yeah right)He told me that we would have to agree to disagree.So I left .Btw my appointment was for 11:30 got there when they opened to drop it off, told me tires were on a truck that was going to be there at 1pm. Cannot do oil changes right. Overtighten drain plug and stripped thread. Had to go to other repair shop to have the damage fixed by rethreading the drain hole. Mavis would have used a self-tapping plug that will ruin the entire oil pan after a few services. Also, had to go back four times to get wheel bearings redone. They overtightened them when installing although they admitted that the installation instructions stated a much lower torque. Also, they let you wait forever, have no interest in courting customers, make jokes about you in your face, and cannot keep appointments or promised completion times. AVOID AT ALL COST! read more

Buying tires from Mavis was a pretty easy process. The Mavis web site helped with the researching tires. Information found there was informative and pretty non biased. Once I made the decision and went to this Mavis store knowing what I wanted, there was no pressure to sell me what was in stock. The tires I wanted were ordered and appointment made for next day to coincide with delivery of desired tires. The next day the tires arrived and were put on. The car was inspected as all places do. There was no pressure to sell a service though suggestions were made. Suggestions based on proven observations are helpful. Though they obviously want to provide the additional services, the decision to address found issues with my normal service people was respected. The tires along with the alignment were done within an hour and a half. Time waiting was spent using the free WiFi. The car was returned, and there was a big noticeable improvement in the way the car rode and handled. The price was fair. I look forward to the twenty five mile check on them. Helps a lot to know what you want. Do some homework and they will be responsive, respectful, and provide quick well done service. read more

Beware, not only you may get ripped off with unnecessary repairs, but also the original parts on your car may be replaced with aftermarket parts. I had my cars brakes and rotors replaced by Mavis more than a year ago. When I started having problems I took it back to Mavis. It turns out they installed brake calipers incorrectly, so rotors wore out too quickly. During my recent visit, store manager tried to convince me that I also needed to change front and back shocks and struts, because they were past due their service cycle of 30K miles. A day later I called my car 's dealer, and I was told that for shock and struts there is no recommended service time, they can last up to 300K miles. I took my car to the dealer for inspection, and the original shocks and struts are just fine. read more

STAY AWAY FROM MAVIS IF YOU VALUE YOUR SAFETY OR YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like the price BUT, after going there twice i will never be back for safety issues. After the first time, I had purchased tires and had them installed when I drove off the parking lot i realized my tire pressure light was on I brought it back and they said that was normal and reset the light. It came back on the next day and I brought it back and they said it looked like someone had hit the sensor when they changed the tire, they then proceeded to fix it and then handed me a bill. I asked for a manager and they said i had to pay something, I ended up just paying for the sensor, this was the first issue. I decided to go back because they where so cheep after over a year figuring maybe the first time was a fluke. I went in for an oil change, tire alignment, and rotation. They pulled my car in and after about an hour they pulled it back out and it looked like they were done. Some of the mechanics where standing around scratching their heads, they then pulled it back into the shop. I went and asked the attendant if everything was ok. He said the alignment was really off and they where going to run it through again. I thought it was strange because my car wasn't to bad going into the shop. After another hour they pull the car out and said it was ready to go. I drove out of the parking lot and the aliment was worse than when I brought it in pulling pretty hard to the left I decided to run home first and grab lunch and then when back and while driving it seem to slowly get worse and worse. They pulled the car back in and after 15 minutes pulled it back out and a mechanic came out and said "he had forgotten to tighten the wheel and " MY BAD" and proceeded to walk away as if it was no big deal. The aliment though seems better but after this I feel I need to bring the car to another mechanic to look it over to make sure the didnt mess anything else up. Beware of this place unless you want to be sold the Brooklyn Bridge every time you go in. They may give you a good price on tires, but they'll make you pay in other ways - with high-pressure pitches to sell you new struts when you don't need them (a favorite ploy), power steering fluid change (when your car has a sealed unit), etc. And they never seem to be able to get you out the door in the promised amount of time. I saw a coupon in a flyer for an $18.88 oil change so I tried them out. I have my own mechanic but he doesn't like to do oil changes. I usually steer clear of these places because they try to sell you other products and nickel and dime you. This was a different experience. The change took about half an hour, immediate and there was no hard sell, though, the manager did point out a few things which needed tending to and gave me prices and options. The waiting area was clean and pleasant. I liked how there was a diversity of employees ranging in age, race and physical ability. I enjoyed how David, the manager knew many of his customers by name and how friendly he was to them and they in return. It was very much a community of customers and David did what he could to accommodate their busy schedules. There was lively banter about cars, restaurants and people in the community. They are in a good location near Rt. 7 and is easily accessible with a turn-off lane for people heading northwest on busy route 5. . If I have to give cons; hmmm, there was no complimentary coffee like some garages have. Uhm, they didn't provide a comprehensive printout such as Walmart offers detailing everything checked such as tire pressure before and after, etcetera. read more
