The lock on my apartment broke and monKeys sent someone in about an hour. He immediately looked into the problem, told me what was wrong and how he could fix it. I ended up needing my entire lock replaced, and it was $350 plus tax. I'm not sure how that compares elsewhere but I was desperate so of course went through with it. Excellent service!! I moved into my apt and there was this hole where a deadlock used to be. Being a single woman living on the first floor apt makes a hole on the door a little bit inconvenient. They copy keys quickly. The folks behind the counter might come off as abrasive, but they're really genuinely nice people.

I lost my key and I needed a new copy immediately! So I yelped the closest place near my apartment and this was it! The man who worked there was super nice, and funny! What horrible customer service from office staff. Had a tech come to my office to give me a quote for a heavy duty door closer. The tech left without giving me the quote. The next morning I received a call from their office saying, "So what, are we doing the work?" I replied that I didn't receive a quote, he told me over the phone. I asked for it in writing and he mutters, "ridiculous". Would you believe this guy??!!! I asked, "What's ridiculous?" he says "That I have to give it to you in writing." I told him to forget it and hung up. Too bad for Monkeys because I was going to replace our usual locksmith with this company permanently. They'll never get our business nor will I ever recommend them. read more

I will keep it short. Our office has been struggling with our top lock for too many months. Its a pain and elbow grease doesn't cut it anymore. This guy is arrogant and can't make keys for his life. I had him make me an office key, it didn't work. I went back and told him the keys don't line up properly, he tells me that the machine lines them up properly and that if he listened to his customers they would drive him crazy. So he took the key and polished it for 3 seconds gave it back to me and said it will work now. Came back to the office and no luck. read more

I've had them make key copies for me for years but recently had them put new locks on my apartment door. They were able to do it while the door was being painted during a hallway renovation, which meant that the installation was very clean and attractive. They were prompt, efficient and courteous. Jeff knows a lot about his field so he's interesting to talk to. Yoel is careful and explains what he's doing. The shop has a display board with a lot of traditional NYC hardware on it, so instead of talking about "that thingie" you know what the proper terminology is. These guys are really solid. read more

I'm knocking off one star because once the job was done, the locksmith ended up adding a little to the initial estimate that both the owner (whom I spoke to on the phone) and the locksmith had given me. The locksmith gave me the estimate after examining the lock and the job needed, but at the end said it ended up being more work than he thought, hence the extra cost. When you don't know anything about locks it's hard to know what is fair- was it really that much more work? Why was he unable to determine how much work it would entail at the beginning? Who knows. But both he and the boss guy Jeff were really nice and I'm happy with the job done, so I won't quibble over $15. read more

I used Monkeys to install a jimmy proof deadbolt and the whole process was absolutely seamless. They showed up early, and installed the deadbolt without a hitch. Because the previous tenant had installed a more complex deadbolt I needed to put a plate on the door, which Monkeys handled for a small charge. Based on the reviews, and the time constraint I had, I chose to go to Monkeys to get 2 copies of a key I needed. Service was very quick -- however, I should of compared the keys BEFORE leaving the store. I got back to my apartment, and neither key would even go into the lock. I took a closer look at the keys, and they CLEARLY were not a copy of my key. The two keys I purchased weren't even cut the same either. One looked like it had one bite mork in it, and the second looked more similar to the original, but did not compare. Neither key was the same type as the original, which is why it wouldn't even go into the lock. read more

Great fast service. I copied two keys and was out in less than 2 minutes. They charged me 2.50 per key though, rather than the 2 bucks a key reviews that I read. I'm not complaining though.
