Finally told the cable company to go $@&!themselves! Scheduled an appointment within 3 days of my request. Mathieu messaged prior to arrival and was right on time. It seems any bad weather and MB just goes out and there is no way to get information about the outage. Yes I've called, usually have to leave a message and wait over an hour for a call back to find out they know nothing about how long an outage will be. I admit I was a little nervous about inviting a new ISP over to climb on my roof and drill a hole in my wall, but everything went smoothly. Carlos and Matt showed up on time, were very professional, and got the work done quickly. I had several questions about the process, which they were able to answer clearly. The work was very high quality, with the cable strung almost invisibly along the siding and the hole in the wall for the point of entry sealed very tight. Absolutely terrible service. It just drops the connection randomly for a few minutes here and there, which makes it really tough to work from home. I understand that it's a small company, but the customer service is also really slow to respond and not super helpful. It is cheap, though. Edited in response to Rudy's reply to my review: the service eventually came back on (after others in my building called to complain too) but no, I never got a reply from their help desk folks. They literally just ignored my email. It still glitches out frequently for short periods of time. Not fatal, but definitely annoying. Update January 2023: I canceled my account and switched to Comcast, which is much faster, more reliable, and actually has customer service outside of 9-5 M-F (monkeybrains' only support hours). BEST ISP I have ever had the pleasure of receiving service from. Original set up at our apartment was the easiest experience, and in over a year later we have only had two issues arise with our internet service with them. Monkeybrains is extremely responsive and quick to fix any issues their customers may have. My favorite part about working with them is that when you contact them for support, whoever answers/responds to you is properly trained and perfectly knowledgeable about issues that may arise and any potential solutions that could be applied. Today we had an issue where we could not connect our router to the internet after we returned from a trip where it had been unplugged for an extended time period. Monkeybrains contacted a technician of theirs who had just finished another service call nearby and within 30 minutes he was at our location and working towards a fix! I've been with Monkeybrains for about two years, and was a fan for the first, but not so much now. They do not seem to have a crisis plan in place in case of service outages at night or over the weekends, which is unacceptable for people who have unpredictably work schedules. Their technical support team is also abhorrently awful. In the past year, I've found their technical support team to be highly condescending and unwilling to help once they find that the issue is on their end and not the customer's. They seem to prioritize onboarding new customers over providing quality service. The fact that they charge the same rate for 25 Mbps as for 500+ Mbps is also very frustrating when you get the short end of the stick. I have repeatedly contacted support and politely complained about the DSL-like speeds, which has constantly been met with "we'll look into it," with no followup. I work in networking at a major institution within the city (which also uses UISP radios for inter/intra-campus connectivity), which I repeatedly tell their tech support, yet am still talked down to as if I am 5. I also noticed that they do not seem to take the time to understand individual constraints or ask questions--I was told months ago that my speeds are so slow because my building does not allow for a larger radio/dish to be mounted on my balcony, which is entirely untrue (my lease states that one 2x wider in diameter is acceptable). Their support team also blatantly lied to me and told me that radio installed is not capable of faster speeds--(the radio manufacturer) Ubiquiti's technical specifications show the radio installed at my unit is capable of much faster speeds than they guarantee over a much longer range than is the case in my situation (based on line-of-sight, it appears the parent radio is less than a block away). I will, however, give credit to their field techs, who have always been kind and professional, and are definitely more competent than those I've experienced with other ISPs. It's also worth noting that their lowest guaranteed speeds no longer meet the FCC's definition of broadband/high-speed internet, which is embarrassing on their part, to say the least. I truly hope Monkeybrains improves, considering I used to evangelize their service, but I've now been warning friends and colleagues to stay away and go with more established ISPs. read more
