Came in for a first-time eye exam with Dr. Monji last week. The experience was fantastic! I'm used to going to Lenscrafters and I dread walking in due to the high pressure sales tactics. None of that at Monji! The staff was very pleasant and competent. I finished my exam and told them what I'd like (new lens for existing frame and contact lens). There was no questions asked or any attempt to upsell me anything. The establishment was well-staffed and everyone seemed happy to be there (including me!) I am very biased, I've been coming here for 3 years and always receive great care and friendly service. their selection is small though and they don't have contracts with more "expensive" brands such as Tom Ford. My daughter's pediatrician had referred us here to have my daughter's eyes checked. Dr. Judy Ichiuji and her staff were very professional, and conducted a complete and thorough eye exam. My daughter was getting contacts for the first time. After two days she had a little bit of a problem with her right eye. I called them but, all the doctors were on vacation and, the one doctor that was coming in the next day, was completely booked. They had her come in the same day I called to get a replacement pair. Sometimes when you first try contacts you can get a tear in the lenses that is not visible and it can feel uncomfortable on the eye. So the wonderful woman at the front desk said let's try a new pair. She had my daughter try them out before we left and it saved us an unnecessary trip on Saturday to see the doctor. Everyone here is very patient, encouraging and, always polite and helpful. I'm so grateful that her pediatrician referred us here. read more

First of all, thank you Monji Optometry in guiding my hand through my first ever medical related appointment I've ever made as an independent young adult! I knew that I was in good hands the moment I stepped in when the store was alive with cheerful exchanges between the customers, the doctor, and receptionist. Every person that I interacted with through this process were very friendly people with a great sense of humor to boot! They even had the courtesy to chuckle at my quips. Dr. Judy Ichiuji gave me a comprehensive ophthalmic exam of my eyes and the whole experience was very smooth, professional, and genial. We had a nice talk through out the exam and she was very patient with me. After that I had Anthony help me out in choosing my new frames. He allowed me to find the frame that suited my face by giving me a carefully curated choice of frames that he felt would work with me. Yet another review from me. I've been coming here for over 40 years and seen three optometrists during that time. All fantastic. Office staff is exceptional (LOVE Kathi and "T"). Truly, the care and attention you get here really is 5 star. I can't count the designer glasses I've gotten over the years from Monji Optometry (contacts too). FYI they are carrying a new brand by Alcon that are the most comfortable ever (if you have sensitive dry eyes like me). An answer to a prayer. This office runs on time; parking is very easy in the lot south of their office and again, front desk matters in ALL medical offices and these gals are great! I'm sad to write this review. I had been going here for over 7 years and my vision continued to get worse. I alway mentioned the difficulty of wearing my contacts and they never could find the solution. I went to another optometrist because the wait for next appt was to long. Little did I know, I was diagnosed with an eye disease called kertoconus. I couldn't believe it so I went to get a second opinion and it was true I had this eye disease for all this time and they never diagnosed it. It's disappointing that this was never revealed every year I went. I now go to a eye specialist that can make custom contact lenses for my eyes. read more

I came to LA for a weekend and forgot my contacts. I called them up, they asked for my prescription (which typically most optometrist don't have). They had them in stock and they just gave them to me for a trial pair with no service fee charge. Kathy was super friendly and helpful and was amazing! So, I've been going here for a few years and the exam part is good. My prescription seems to be fine. But it's taking about 3 weeks to get my new glasses. 1st time it was 2 weeks. Seems a bit long. And I can't see well with over the counter readers. It's killing me. Maybe a 3.5 star if I could. Also called about frame warranty and they said they would call back. That was 2 weeks ago. Drs saldana and monji are FANTASTIC! Very thorough. Take their time with each patient. Professional. Smart. They will ask the other to review their patient for a second opinion, if necessary. The only reason why my husband and i stopped going to them is because our insurance changed; however, we were thinking about going to them on a cash basis, and even drive all the way from LA (we used to live in the Valley) because they are so awesome. I'm new to this so here goes. I recently broke a temple on my glasses. It's an expensive brand and I wasn't looking forward to purchasing new eyewear nor was I looking forward to going back to the optometrist's that sold me the glasses originally. Nice people but they're disorganized and I always felt that I was being up-sold. I'd moved on and found another practice. The problem there was, they didn't sell this particular brand. Thinking that I'd need to purchase new glasses, I thought it best to have my eyes examined first. First good news was that prescription hadn't changed. Second good news was that the optometrist who examined me suggested that I could probably get a replacement temple without having to purchase a new pair of glasses and that her former practice sold that particular brand. She recommended that I call Peg at Takaki & Monji and at that point one of those little inconveniences that tend to cause way more stress than is merited, became instantly better. Here's the thing, I'm not a patient at Takaki & Monji and it's doubtful that I'll ever become one. I'm happy with the practice I'm with currently so there's really no point in changing. But I explained my problem to Peg and she treated me like I'd been a customer for years. She ordered the replacement part and called me immediately as soon as it arrived at there office. And more, when I went in to have the temple piece replaced, Peg accidentally and inadvertently scratched my lens. It's on the far left side. You can barely see it and it doesn't interfere with my vision. No big deal. But Peg felt awful about it. She offered to replace the lens and when I told her that wasn't necessary, she insisted that there'd be no charge for the replacement temple. This is just extraordinary service and even more so in view of the fact that I'm not a customer. How do you pay back this level of kindness and consideration? I guess these days you write a review on Yelp. Takaki & Monji get a lot of 5 star reviews. I'm not surprised and I'm happy to add mine. read more
