What is there to NOT love about Mondo? I've been there quite a few times and have yet to have any substantial complaints. The beer selection is pretty good, the food is always delivered in a timely fashion, and has always been delicious! If I could eat dinner here every night, I'd never complain! Some favorites from past visits include the Tomato Basil pizza (Was great with wheat dough), the calzone with bacon and tomato, and their baked ziti with chicken. read more

I work at the Y across the street and probably eat here 1x each week. Sometimes more! Their pizzas are awesome, with high quality toppings and huge slices. I have probably gotten their chicken panini over ten times in the past 6 months and have loved it almost every time. (You have to ask them to cut the chicken up small, otherwise it falls out and is too big to chew.) Staff is always awesome. Once, their computer froze and instead of making me wait, the owner just told me to enjoy my slices and didn't charge me. I was so impressed that I actually went back the next day and paid for them anyway... On top of it all, these guys are pretty good dodgeball players and donated to our Strong Kids campaign. Definitely my kind of joint! read more

Mondo makes some good pizza, and it's a really cool place. My brother and I were in Middletown last week looking for a bar to catch the second half of the UConn game and ended up here. It made for a great night (and UConn won, which made it even better). It was a little crowded for a Thursday night, but we got a table at the bar with a great view of the two TV screens on either side of the bar. We got two beers we liked from the small, but decent beer selection, and split a large pizza with tomato and basil. The pizza was delicious - nice thin crust, good sauce, good amount of cheese, topped with fresh tomato and basil. The menu included a lot of creative pizzas that I want to try (we decided to stick to a more traditional pizza this night), and the entrees sounded great, too. Two girls at the table next to us got the mac 'n cheese, which looked wonderful. Every member of the staff was super friendly, and the people around us were really nice, too - it was just a great atmosphere. I would definitely come back to watch a game at the bar or have dinner in the main dining area. read more

this place is really great, if you read my previous review it's still the same awesome pizza still but now they have real fried mozzarella .. this time we had a sicilian pizza and it was one of the better sicilian pizzas i have had in a long time!! nice and thick but not too dense and bready or too oily, a little crisp topped with a nice tomato sauce and good amount of mozzarella. (i took some pics that should be up) we parked in the lot around back instead of circling main st hoping for someone to leave and it made it much easier, the lot entrance is around the corner behind the drugstore. i think the parking lot right next to it is just for the real estate agent. mondo keeps getting better! read more

Uh oh, time to disagree with my wife. Brace for impact, Lesley :p. Appetizers included solid wings and good risotto balls. Agreed that they were good while not amazing. But this is a pizza place, we ordered appetizers to hold us over for the stars of the show while we were waiting for a seat on a busy Friday evening. I thought the pizza was spectacular. Connecticut is very lucky; When your co-workers in Massachusetts tell you "Oh, that pizza from Big Y is my FAVORITE," you know you live in a pizza state. This is not New-Haven style or Brick-oven pizza. Go to New Haven for the former (obviously), or to Krust/Otto/Carmine's etc. for the latter. This is New York pizza, which honestly reminds me of the types of pies I'd get in the Bronx as a kid. Not so thick that it's like chewing on a Big Y pizza, but not so thin that you can't pick it up and walk down the street eating a slice. Indeed, they have slices to go, or sit down service. I absolutely loved every pizza that hit the table. Truffle oil? Sausage and pistachio? Holy hell, those were good. It's worth a 10 minute drive just to pick one up and bring it home. Guess the wifey and I will have to agree to disagree :) read more

When I first moved to Middletown my landlord recommended Mondo to us. Fast forward 6 months, we are just starting to make this our regular place (*face slap*...what's wrong with us?!). My favorite thing to order was something I got right before they changed to their new menus, The Cucumber Salad. It's goat cheese, arugula, cucumbers, tomatoes, a top delicious toasted flatbread. Mmmm. Pair that with the Local Cheese Board (cheese from Shelton, CT), their Malbec and you've got a tasty little dinner. Usually I get an order of the Eggplant Fries...they are crispy, melt in your mouth good with tasty marinara dipping sauce. Most times when I go with other people they get a sandwich...the portions are really big so you're absolutely getting your moneys worth and I have never heard any complaints. Take out: they make a mean pizza...I recommend the Margarita or plain cheese. Very family friendly, and the happy hour is pretty good...but of course if you miss the happy hour you can always buy the Yelp deal...$10 for $20, alrighty! Only con: they do not have a dessert menu. This place does get a little loud of Friday nights, but that's okay because the atmosphere is just what Middletown needs! read more

Good stuff all-around here. Thin, crispy pizza with wonder toppings (including some really sausage). Salad was fresh and plentiful. This place is VERY kid-friendly. We may have caught them on an unusual Sunday but it was packed with tykes (including ours). Waitstaff was friendly and very accommodating and the place has tons of things from the kids to do from toys and books to coloring and chalkboards. Recommended! read more

I'm sad to report that Mondo was not as good as expected. The restaurant was trendy and the food looked great but did not hold up. Upon walking in the hostess was rude, unapproachable, and didn't greet us so we assumed she was busy writing things down so we waited. Finally we asked to put our names in and she had no clue how long we'd have to wait ( a simple 15, 20, etc. would have sufficed). Now the waiting area for a table is very small and on a cold night you may have to step outside to wait. When we finally sat our eggplant fries appetizer was very greasy. It got soggy fast and was nearly inedible. Our Spinach Bianca pizza came next and looked excellent with what seemed to be the perfect amount of black char (if you like that sort of pizza, we do). However, one bite into the pizza and it was terribly soggy, and the cheese just slid off the entire slice of crust. Needless to say we left hungry and stopped at another restaurant for food. We will not be returning. I left two stars because their drinks menu seemed sufficient and what we had was good. Drinks alone do not make a dinner so 2 stars is as far as I'll go. read more

Mondo is amazing. The staff is friendly, Keith is great, and most importantly, the food is TERIFFIC! Forget Krust, Mondo is where it is at for thinner crust pizza in Middletown. I order lunch weekly as part of my job. I have never had an order that was wrong, everything was delivered timely and fresh and hot. The fresh mozzarella panini is one of my favorite things to order. It's got balsamic dressing on it and that combined with the yummy garlic type bread they put it on and the melted Mozzarella, leaves your taste buds happy! The parmigiana paninis are also great. The Sherry salad is fabulous with a mixed bed of greens, glazed pecans, BACON, blue cheese and a terrific Sherry dressing. Most salads I have had are delicious though. The pizza is great! Wonderful thin crust, fresh mozzarella, toppings galore, and even a bunch of creative pizzas. I am not gluten free, however some of the people I order lunch for are, and they rave about how wonderful the gluten free pie is. The Veggie pizza is a favorite, and I don't even like spinach, but the pizza just tastes so good, I don't mind it! Keep up the great work Mondo! It's great to do business with you and the food and service you provide is in my opinion far more superb then half the businesses surrounding you! read more

Mondo is my favorite restaurant. Period. I went to school in Middletown and I ate at Mondo weekly. Every pizza is great-- the crust is the key. My favorite is the tomato basil. Simple but perfect. Any of the artisan pizzas are a must especially oozy egg). Plus the eggplant fries-- I can't say enough good things about these. Really, you can't go wrong with any options. The sandwiches are great and the couple pasta dishes on the menu really hit the the spot. Don't get me started on the service. I'd never stop saying good things. I love Mondo!! read more

I came across Mondo here on Yelp when I was looking for a place to have lunch in Middletown. The food here is absolutely delicious. Yum! We tried the mondo blanco pizza and the fresh tomato and basil pizza. Loved that the crust is thinner but not too crispy. The toppings were all super fresh and tasty. I especially loved the dollops of ricotta on the blanco. The appetizers sounded so good I'm bummed I didn't get to try any of them. This would've been 5 stars but I took one off because this place is LOUD and the music they had on was really annoying. As much as I enjoyed my food I actually couldn't wait to get out. If I come back here I'll probably sit outside. read more

Everyone in the Middletown area needs to go to Mondo pronto! I've eaten their food twice - once dine in and once take out. Dine in experience was very nice - loved the decor and the staff were very friendly. A little bit of a wait (about 20 minutes) but that's not bad for a Friday night. We had the eggplant fries for an appetizer which came to us piping hot! But it was worth waiting to let them cool because they were delicious. The marinara sauce to dip was also to die for. For the main course we ordered the ricotta and broccoli white pie - I thought it was very good, although I will admit to having better elsewhere. My boyfriend complained of it being dry but hey - it's a white pizza! When we got take out we decided to order a salad because I noticed when we were there the first time EVERYONE was ordering them. We got the Sherry Salad, which was nice and fresh with good flavor. However, the dressing is very strong so I would recommend getting it on the side. Then we had the Mondo special pizza with sausage, pepperoni, bacon, peppers, caramelized onions, mushrooms and olives. Let me tell you, I have not seen a more perfect looking pizza in my life (wish I had a picture!). The flavor was also very good! A bit spicy - not sure if it was from the pepperoni, sausage or both - but it was not too spicy! Just the perfect amount. Overall, Mondo is a great place to go for pizza if your looking for a fresh spin on it. I will definitely be going back time and time again! read more

I avoided eating here for awhile back when Mondo first opened in late 2010, because they had some pretty obviously fake reviews here on Yelp (fortunately, they were filtered). But I finally got around to it twice in the past few weeks. Our first Mondo experience was actually a take-out order of two artisan pizzas and two salads. Very good! I found the salads to be fresh and well-priced. On our second trip we ate in on a relatively busy Thursday evening. I had only planned on getting a salad, but the pizza smelled so good I ended up ordering the truffle pizza. Again, very good and fresh. Service was efficient and friendly, and I really like the funky atmosphere/decor of the place. Definitely the type of restaurant Middletown needs. Overall, what would make this restaurant ideal for me would be a focus on more local/organic foods, and maybe a few more of the unique artisan-style pizzas on the menu. read more

Yum! What a great experience I had here!! I came here with some friends for a quick dinner. A large tomato basil pie was in the works for us! It was delicious, the perfect amount of toppings, fresh basil. I originally was planning on ordering a turkey panini but as soon as I saw the pizza, I knew. I also ordered the Waldorf salad and the waitress was very nice accommodating our substitutions and whatnot. We switched out the mixed greens for romaine and changed the dressing. The salad was great, I loved the candied walnuts and apple slices. Overall the food and service was great! read more

My husband and I tried Mondo for the first time tonight and we were so pleased by the friendly service and the delicious meal. We tried their risotto fritters (words can't do them justice they were so good) and their pizza was on point! Thank you, Mondo! read more

Mondo on a Friday night in January was really hopping... Had a drink at the bar (beer & wine only) while we waited... Was told about a 45 minute wait but we were seated within 15... Nice table almost private considering how crowded they were... Now to the main event the pizza... Let me start by saying that I'm an absolute Pizza Snob... Born & raised in Brooklyn & a veteran of 5 trips to Italy... The pizza here wasn't awful but it needed to be baked longer... It was too limp... I want my pizza to be on Viagra... Stiff so I can fold it !!! I'm willing to give them another shot and tell them to bake it longer & let it set a few minutes before bringing it to the table... This place does have possibilities !!! read more

I just love the smell of this place walking in! Delicious! On our recent visit, we had the fresh tomato and basil pizza and eggplant fries. The pizza was great and all the ingredients seemed high quality. The eggplant fries are a must try---they were amazing, a hearty portion, and in my opinion better than the eggplant fries at Joey Garlic's, which is saying something. My main tip would be to call ahead---they don't take reservations, but you can put your name on the list. When we called around 5:00 on a Friday night, they told us it would be a 30-40 minute wait. It worked out great because soon after we got there they had a table ready for us. Can't wait to go back and I think Mondo will become a regular pizza place for us in the future. read more

Some of the best pizza that I have ever had. Wonderful flavors, great variety and very fresh. The ambiance is very trendy and nice. Very big with a warm offering. The staff is beyond friendly and outgoing. We went here with a very large group before a wedding, and they were fun, very accommodating and extremely friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend Mondo. You will not be disappointed. Cheers! read more

The more I explore Middletown, the more pleased I am with the food scene. I've heard so much talk of Mondo vs. Krust so I had to try it for myself. It's definitely a casual spot, but the setting is still nice enough for a date night. You also have the option to eat at the bar which can be helpful when it gets crowded. We started out with the Ricotta Fritters because we were famished, but honestly the pizza came out so quickly we probably didn't need an appetizer. The Fritters were good, but didn't come with any sauce and they were too filling. Next time I'll try something lighter to start. They have soo many pizza choices, we had to ask for some suggestions. We ended up ordering the Mondo Bianco and the Mondo Special. You can choose what size pizza you want, which is super helpful! The small is plenty for one, the medium is enough for two, and the large for a group or if you're both really hungry. The pizzas were delicious! The Mondo Special was probably my favorite though. They also had a list of Artisan Pies that you can only order in a small. I will definitely be back to try them! They all sound amazing and unique. I will definitely be back either to eat in or take-out. There are tons of amazing pies to try! read more

if you're looking for an excellent thin crust pizza with the perfect amount of cheese and sauce, this is the place to go. The sauce is superb and the cheese tastes fresh. I recommend the fresh mozzarella since it combines the cheese with sauce and some fresh basil on top. The dough is very thin, so you don't feel bloated and full just from eating the crust. I wish we lived closer!!! But it's the perfect treat for us when we come to Middletown to visit family read more

My parents had suggested that we go to Mondo to grab pizzas for dinner one night while I was visiting CT. I must admit, I was hesitant as I've become quite the pizza snob as I'm very fortunate to live in Brooklyn NY and am surrounded by some of the best pizza around (pizzas earliest roots in the US were brought in by Italian immigrants in NYC). However, I was pleasantly surprised by their specialty pies! I generally judge a pizza place by their traditional pie-- Unfortunately, I think that not only the dough/sauce/fresh ingredients make a pizza, but also the oven in which they are made. My personal favorite oven is a charcoal-fired, however wood-ovens also churn out amazing pies. I wish that Mondo didn't just have your typical oven, because if they had more, I think they'd have even more potential to make a good classic pizza! On to the best part, which is the artisan pies. The Truffle pizza was amazing!!! It's a white pie with fresh mozzarella, goat cheese, riccota and toasted pine nuts with truffle honey-- the truffle honey balances so well with the cheese, and the toasted pine nuts give just enough crunch to add more complexity to the pie. Highly recommend the Truffle pie! read more

So... I waited a few days before posting this review. Why? I wanted to make sure I felt as passionately about my leftovers as I did about my initial experience at Mondo. Creepy? Weird? I must agree with you... but please read on: I can't believe I have lived less than one minute away from here for an entire year and this was my first time going... plus I'm moving by month-end! After just this one visit, Mondo is a big part of why I will miss Middletown. I went on a Thursday night with my boyfriend and we were lucky, got seating right away. Our waitress was friendly and patient. We started off with a round of UFO Pumpkin beer which was pleasant - there was cinnamon and sugar around the rim of the glass, which worked well with the pumpkin spice beer. The boyfriend ordered a full pie of sausage and pepperoni, which he said was delicious but greasy. No comment on my end... being Indian, a greasy pizza is a perfect pizza. Meanwhile, I ordered a full pie, myself... I got the Truffle Artisan Pie: Fresh Mozz, Goat Cheese, Ricotta, Red Onion, Toasted Pine Nuts & Truffle Honey (White). I asked to have mine finished off with fresh arugula, and the waitress happily obliged. I was expecting smooth creamy cheesiness, with a light sweetness, nuttiness, and mild green flavor... I most certainly did receive! There are no words to properly describe my first bite... just imagine 2 months' worth of a serious cheeseboard craving being satisfied through a single bite of an artisan pizza. That's what happened to me Thursday night at Mondo. And again when I had my leftovers the following day. Now that I've had a moment to recuperate from the sheer ecstasy that is the Truffle Artisan Pie at Mondo, I can share my thoughts without clouded judgment. My verdict? The leftovers were just as good as my first bite at Mondo. I'm just stunned at the execution of the Artisan Pie I ordered, and am quite desperate to go back again... very soon. This is MUST HAVE pizza in Middletown; don't pass it up! read more

I hav been going to Mondo's for a while now and I have to say the one thing that never changes there is the amazing quality and quantity of their food. I have never had anything that I disliked there. The staff are friendly and there are big screen TV's all over for you to watch. Also, the prices of their food are very reasonable. You will not be disappointed after you Mondo's! read more

This may be my new local pizza/sandwich/bar go-to establishment. After moving to Middletown about 3 months ago, I finally went to Mondo... I left full, and satisfied. In a state where pizza and Italian food are on every corner, Mondo has a nice niche. Gourmet pizza, standard Italian food, a more than adequate and ever changing craft beer selection, and a buzzing atmosphere. I will return to Mondo frequently... my only complaint? Mondo made me a liar, In life I make an effort to finish everything I start. At Mondo, I started eating a calzone and could not even come close to finishing it. Keep up the solid work. Also, the meatballs are delicious. read more

Took my mom for her birthday - she loves the eggplant fries! Great service and food, I will definitely go back. The one thing I didn't love was the artisanal prosciutto pizza - it was kind of undercooked. Not bad review worthy just not my fave! This review is for take out only - I will update when I eat in. The pizza was very good: the crust was yummy and the ingredients fresh and tasty. When we went in to get our order, the pizza was warm and ready to be taken home. Reasonably priced, good food: I'll be back. read more

Pizza is bland. Got the Tomato Basil as a white pie, based on positive reviews. Could not taste the garlic, very little basil and cheese.

I'm bouncing back and forth between three and four star review with Mondo. I had no big complaints about Mondo. There were many different options for different palates and the service was terrific. From observing the kitchens, the chefs worked their tails off! Our genuinely upbeat waitress was attentive and made sure my water was constantly being refilled. I was one of a party of four and had to wait 25 minutes for a table. That was okay because the bar was empty and we had drinks and two appetizers at the bar. I loved my $6 Mondo sangria; cheers to that! The appetizers we ordered, wings and risotto balls, were just OK and generic. Once we got seated, we ordered three pizzas; the tomato basil regular red pie as well as the truffle artisan pie and sausage and pistachio. Out of the three, I enjoyed the tomato basil the best. The artisan pies we ordered had such a heavy cream sauce that I only had two small slices. Normally at pizza restaurant, I scarf down three or four slices (please don't judge). This morning I had the remaining two slices and thought it was just okay. In the Krust vs. Mondo battle, I have to say I prefer Krust. I just like the hip ambience more at Krust. My husband actually prefers Mondo. Nonetheless, I had a great time there with the another couple my husband and I regularly double date with! Middletown is becoming my favorite commercial hub in CT! read more

We went here on a Friday night... People were outside waiting. We tho it oh boy, it's going to be a long wait... Went up to the hostess, she told us 45 mins for a table. We said sure and went into the bar for a glass of vino. It was only about five mins before our table was ready. We had only just got our wine when our table was ready so don't let it discourage you. So we ordered two specialty pizza's... One was the spicy sausage the other was one with arugula, prosciutto, and truffle oil... I don't recall the name but both were very good! They had several other good selections too. We will definitely go back and try more!! read more

Our office grabs lunch here a couple times a month and the place is great. They have the best pizza by the slice and paninis in Middletown. This place is phenomenal. My food was so spectacular I wanted to go behind the counter and smack the chef because now I can't eat pasta anywhere else! Spaghetti, was heaven. Delicious thin crust pizza. Had the basil and fresh tomato on white pizza as well as sausage and pepperoni on red. Tomato was rich and flavorful. Cheese was perfect amount and consistency. Crust was soft on the inside with nice subtle crunch on bite. Could have this pizza all the time. Happy hour 4-6p (who gets out of work by 4p?!). $3 drafts and $4 wines (only one red and one white on special). You can see how happy hour is not really their thing. Olive plate is huge, only $5, but chopped and sliced so not what I pictures. Probably would not order again. Packed on a tuesday night. Good turnover. So so service. Will come again though for sure. read more

Very good pizza. If Mondo were located in NYC, and not southern CT, its pizza would probably get rated as excellent. The cheese could have been a little bit more gooey and the crust edges could have been a little more burnt (aw heck I grew up in New Haven). But my biggest turnoff was the sausage. It was probably some of the spiciest and fattiest Italian sausage I've ever tasted. One last observation and maybe somebody can explain this to me.....I don't know why every customer inside this joint was under 22 years old. Maybe I missed the sign at the front door or something. I'll have to watch for that next time. I wouldn't want to break a building code or violate a town ordinance :-) read more
