Okay so, I found this place on a whim. I was in search of some authentic breakfast tacos as I moved from the staple of breakfast tacos (Austin). Honestly, you could really miss this place if you aren't looking for it, and sad for you. When you walk in there is a lot going on, but the food is the most important. They have picadillo, beef and potato, shredded chicken, and regular breakfast tacos (eggs & potato, etc.) . I ordered an assortment of tacos, and let me tell you there are so worth it. They are inexpensive. The tortillas are authentic and handmade. I prefer the flour over the corn but the corn tortillas are definitely just an authentic and thick. . there is a spicy green sauce, red sauce, spicy avocado sauce. Nice selection. The service is awesome and very friendly. The are only open until 4pm everyday and they do take cash and cards. You can sit and eat but you can go also get your food on the go as well. read more

So today I decided to try out Monchy's breakfast tacos. I wasn't new to them as I've had them before from family and co-workers. Being as how it was Taco Tuesday I thought I would try them myself but little did I know their special is only for lunch and not breakfast. Nonetheless I still didn't mind paying the regular price (that's how good they are). When It was time to pay, the nice young lady at the register which I assume is the owner said she was going to charge me the special price since I didn't really know. Decided to stop in after reading a lot of good reviews and wow, I was so impressed! The breakfast quesadilla tacos as everyone talks about are amazing. I've been back almost weekly. Tortillas are delicious and homemade. Everything is reasonable priced and they even do a special on tacos on Tuesday's. The agua fresca is good too. I only wish they were open later! One of the most delightful taco joints in Houston. Honestly the tortillas have always been so delicious to me and the price is spectacular. They are seriously so kind and nice and willing to work with you. Crazy experience but I thought I misheard one of the prices to be lower than it was and he decided to just give it to me at that price, proves the service is spectacular. Not only that but because my vegetarian gf couldn't eat any of the normal meat tacos, they decided to whip up some special breakfast tacos just for her. I love this place so much. Their tortillas are incredibly good. Sometimes taco places don't cook the tortillas, Monchy's does and they're to die for. I get beans & rice on flour and the tacos are superb. Their salsa - oh my god they're so good. They do the super hot jalapeño sauce -- not green sauce, the jalapeño sauce that is thick. Place is phenomenal... $1 tacos/$1.50 quesadillas on Tuesdays!!! There aren't many taco spots where I live but because of work I was able to discover this gem. Blows away taqueria arandas, tacos la bala and all the other well known taqueria chains in Houston. Also students get taco Tuesday deals everyday during the week. They also take credit card. I have been in Houston for a little over a week, and I have been here 3 times. Excellent tacos with incredibly flavorful fillings. The sope was also amazing topped with queso fresco and their (note: incredibly spicy) sauces. Paired with a glass bottle Coke, you can't go wrong. The people who work here are so sweet and nice. The environment is laid back but there is a bus service in the front so at times there's many people eating there with their luggage next to them and a high school down the street so students go there sometimes which makes it somewhat crowded. These are some of the best flour tortillas I've ever had. Crispy and soft at the same time - almost flaky. Great salsas (it may take a few trips to build up your spice tolerance), corn tortillas, caldos, and taco fillings (just pick whatever is fullest since that is probably the freshest) as well.
