Well, on a fluke heading down the freeway starving I stopped at this diner. Old school with super friendly people. Good so far.... The home made French onion soup was excellent.... My blue cheese salad was close. I should have stopped there.... My one piece of liver, small amount of string onions and one piece of bacon were burnt on the bottom. The liver, onions and bacon were all cooked to oblivion on one side.... The home made mashed potatoes looked to have been freshened up with water and were soupy and weak. The sweet potato fries were good..... I'm full, but the meal was not good. Obliterating food and serving the burnt side down is a crap move. Bummer too.... This could have been a fun stop. read more

I love this diner. My first visit was in February 2013. I visited again in April 2023 and again in August 2024 when I visited family in Bath. I do live 700 miles away from Savona, but when I am there, I will visit this excellent diner. They produce great tasting entrees from yesteryear, at a great price, and they are also concerned about people needing to maintain a gluten-free diet. They show us that this is how to run a restaurant. They care about their patrons. read more

My daughter and I each ordered the tuna melt sandwich. She ordered hers with an order of fries and I ordered mine with potato salad. I ate the potato salad first which tasted exactly like my homemade. They definitely do not buy it from the big name potato salad manufacturers. Came with four little bread and butter pickles and we each ordered a Pepsi. The tuna melts were typical tuna melts with bread grilled in butter. If I was in the area I would come back here again but order something different. read more

When I saw the sign for a "diner" I had fantasies of gleaming chrome and glass, an enormous menu with home made specials and a huge case of home made pies. This isn't that diner. Cash only. Apparently "spring cleaning" not a big thing here. I can't rule out that there is something lurking on the (dirty) menus that might be tasty. But trust me. read more

Good Value and Good Food! We travel from Rochester to Binghamton at least once a month; and we were starving on Christmas Eve! We called ahead, and they were open, and only a mile off the highway! Had dinner there tonight. Food was good. Had spaghetti and meatballs. Service was not good. My cup had grease on the inside. I never did get another drink. Waitress was not very attentive, never came to see if we wanted anything more or if we needed anything, or even to give us our check. We wanted dessert and went to the counter twice to see if we could find the waitress. Finally she came out and took our dessert order. We asked for coconut cream pie, I wouldn't eat mine because as she came to the table she tipped the piece of pie into her shirt and hair of which she had whipped cream in her hair. She knew she flipped my pie into her hair and still served it to me, I don't eat hair in my food. We asked for our check which we never got, instead just went to the register to pay and get out of there! Never again! read more

The waitress, who I think may have been the owner, could have been more polite and attentive. She seemed more interested in washing the outside windows than taking care of customers. read more

This was a little diner that I once stopped at with my family on our way to Niagara Falls. It was in the small town of Savona. It was basically your typical diner fare. It had a counter sitting area and two additions with large dining tables. The staff was pretty friendly when we went there. The prices for the food was pretty reasonable. They had chicken, pork chops, salads, steaks etc. The waiter then actually asked if we were going to Niagara Falls and gave us a lot of tips and shortcuts, which kind of payed off, it shortened our trip, and saved us a little money on the toll road. We stopped here on our way to Fredonia. Wanted to try some local fare and we hit the jackpot. Really homemade dinners. I have the lasagna and the bride had liver and onions (my kryptonite). Very generous portions and very tasty. While we were eating we could see the dessert display case. Just looking at the pies you knows they were home made. The apple crumble was made with real maple syrup and was heaven. The waitress was a doll who gave great service and advice. We stopped in on our way back home to Binghamton looking for a quick bite to eat. We ordered breakfast and our food came out pretty quick. We were not aware that they only accept cash (ugh why can't places put a sign on the door. Ugh) one of us had to leave and get cash from a place close by. So a quick meal was not what we got. You won't get a better breakfast. Eggs with perfectly cooked crispy bacon and you must get the homemade bread. Diner reminded me of 1960"s. Neat, clean, you can sit at the counter and watch the chef cook. Waitress friendly and efficient. I also must mention as some single customers came in they were greeted by name, said hello to friend. Great local diner and great food! You can't beat the prices, they are extremely reasonable. Breakfast can get a little busy, so expect a little wait. Watch out for the breakfast specials-the pancakes are HUGE. The only downside is that it is CASH ONLY. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, there isn't a bad time to stop in because they serve breakfast all day. There is something on the menu for everyone and everything is HOMEMADE. Although I've lived in the area a long time, this was my first visit to the Savona Diner. I ordered a Club Sandwich and was given a choice of turkey, ham or roast beef. Doesn't a club sandwich come with all of them? Sandwich was okay. Half the plate given over to potato chips--way too many. My dining companion had a sausage, onion and pepper sandwich. Huge sausage on not large enough hot dog type roll., but good taste. Waitresses didn't seem too happy, but were very attentive and helpful. Then later I saw two of them talking and they smiled the most beautiful smiles. Wish they'd share their smiles with the customers. It's a small-town diner, people, and the food is just "okay". Great diner-y diner food with good service and amazing giant slices of pie. I had a grilled cheese with bacon which tasted basically like I wanted it to. Washed it and the potato chips down with a cup of good diner coffee and finished it with a slice of coconut cream pie that was truly giant and delicious. This is a local diner and it definitely feels like you get different treatment depending on whether you're a local or just passing through. The food was frozen packaged and the grandma is just as cold to the customers. It's a shame because we love chatting with the people who cook and serve to get a sense of the area. This diner was very quaint. Just like a diner in the 50's! I saw one review of the diners' staring at her Indian boyfriend...I beg to differ, they stared at us too and we are of Irish/German descent. I've eaten at this diner many times mainly because a couple of my friends are die hard liver and onion fans. The diner serves this on Mondays. This is a typical local diner; nothing fancy and the place looks a bit run down. But I go there for the food which is good for a local diner and the price is right. Their dessert always tastes homemade. It seems the place is getting more popular lately; I take it that the place is run a bit more professionally these days. An isolated incident, I hope, happened to me one time. Me and my friend arrived at the diner around 4 pm and we ordered dinner specials. About 15 minutes later, the waitress told us she couldn't find the cook. Later she found out that the cook had taken an "unexpected break" and wouldn't be back until 5 pm. The waitress was the only one there but she said she could do the cooking for us. I offered to order something simpler like omelets but she said she could do the dinner specials. She did a good job and I left her $10 tips. The cook was never seen during that time. I've never seen that waitress again either! read more
