I love little breakfast spots like these, it's small and cozy and the service is so friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious too, my go to for any spot is a chicken fried steak with eggs, hashbrowns, and toast, and this place definitely makes them very well. If you're a local in Vista or are around the area, I'd highly recommend eating here read more

Haven't been in awhile so we were happy to be back. Everything was perfect, from the waitress to the food. My coffee never got cold and the food was all perfect. Pumpkin pecan pancakes, biscuits and gravy, smoky bacon. Glad to see the place hadn't changed, looking forward to going back soon! read more

I have been two times now for breakfast. Both times service was good. The food though is lackluster. I get pretty basic breakfast food: waffle and eggs. The waffle was cold, the syrup was cold. The eggs were dry and lacked salt. The bacon was flabby oil sheets. Friend got biscuits and gravy, tasted like it should but nothing to write home about. People seem to like it though, but i won't be coming back. read more

What a cute diner/restaurant. Great small town vibes, with some mimosas that absolutely slap! French toast was amazing and they let me substitute my sides for some egg whites, because I'm bout that life. read more

This is a favorite local spot. The food is like Mama used to make. The staff remembers your name. It is small but cozy.

Our favorite breakfast spot for sure. The chicken fried steak and eggs are the best i've ever had, delicious huevos rancheros, and the coffee is perfect. read more

If you want to eat like a Vista local then you must visit Moms Kitchen. They have local favorites like Chilaquiles and cinnamon roll pancakes. Their biscuits and gravy are amazing. Good ahead an get the full order. You won't be disappointed. The portions are generous so ask for a box. You're going to need it! A local tip, bring a jacket or hoodie. The restaurant is small so indoor dining is limited. There are tables all along the back of the restaurant. read more

This is my boyfriends favorite place in vista. He grew up around here and said it used to be called Alan's Alley. His favorite is the biscuits and gravy but today I ordered the Florentine omelette and he plans to order it next time. All the ladies who work here are lovely. They loved having my little corgi mix on the patio. I even ordered a piece of bacon as a side for her. The ladies kept coming to refill coffee and said they wanted to see my dog haha. Breakfast is cheap and delicious. Portions are generous. Will definitely be coming back when we have North County days. read more

We love Moms! They definitely have better service some days then others, but they are so nice and the food is delicious so I think it's worth it. My husband and I eat here almost every weekend for breakfast. We love the cinnamon roll pancakes and the breakfast sliders. They have the best scrambled egg whites (so much butter!) and we love the biscuits. Oh, and the home fries --extra crispy. I've only had breakfast, but my dad got their burger and said it was fantastic. It certainly looked great. All in all, come by, put your name on the whiteboard, and relax. You're in good hands here. read more

This rating is based on service and meal preparation. We ordered 2 meals, one was prepared as ordered. Second was a veggie omelet with fruit and hash browns. The server was asked what was the other option besides toast and she said fruit. So when she brought the meal and it was the omelet, toast and cottage cheese she should have known, right? NO! So we sent it back and said it was supposed to be hash browns and fruit nit toast and cottage cheese. So a few minutes later the meal arrives, omelet, fruit and toast. Really!!! Needless to say we left and will not return! Since the parents/grandparents (original owners) this place has steadily gone down hill. read more

My wife and I had a delicious breakfast and overall, wonderful experience at Mom's Kitchen. The staff was so friendly, courteous, and eager to serve, and we loved the old school diner feel to the whole place. One waitress told us that it's the oldest restaurant in downtown Vista, dating back to the 1940s. The menu has something for everyone. My wife had the County Benedict, which was hearty and delicious. I had the breakfast sliders, which were surprisingly filling, and you can't go wrong with a side of sausage gravy for dipping. You can tell all of the food we had was homemade. This was our first time at Mom's Kitchen, but we will be regular customers, and encourage all of friends and neighbors to take in this Vista staple. read more

The food was absolutely fantastic and the service as well. Morgan did a phenomenal job 10/10! I came here after working out at the gym and the steak and eggs were bomb! I wish I would have taken a photo but I was so hungry! Morgan was caring, attentive, quick, and very personable. She deserves a raise for sure. I'll be coming back very soon! Thanks, Morgan! read more

What an amazing find. This little breakfast place is amazing in one word. Alanna our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu. She offered great suggestions and was very professional. I highly recommend this place in the small town of Vista, California. Love this place!! read more

Completely adequate. I violated a rule and ordered Eggs Benedict on a Monday morning when the place was pretty empty. The rule is there because you only want to order hollandaise sauce in a place that makes it every day. I'm not sure what I got - it was a thick mess - my guess it came out of the refrigerator and was a day or more old. I've lived in Vista for a few years and had never tried Moms. Breakfast for one with tip was $28. Oh well. read more

I was recommended this place and was excited to try it. Definitely a let down, we sat for almost 20mins before we were brought waters. I got the eggs Benedict and it was cooked well, not the best but good. My husband on the other hand or ordered the biscuits and gravy which tasted like condensed soup it was very odd and not good at all. Maybe it was a off day? I don't believe I'll go back but try it for yourself :) read more

We've both done take-out from and eaten at Mom's Kitchen as well as explored the menu. We've really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My current favorite is the Chilaquiles but I also really like their scrambles. My kids love the french toast and pancakes. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The take-out food sometimes needs to be reheated when we get home or just simply toasted a little longer but that's not a big deal if you have a toaster oven and/or microwave. I don't think that is unexpected as takeout food will cool off on the trip back and may get a little moist from condensation in the styrofoam containers. But just be aware that your toast may need a minute in the toaster and your hashbrowns or home fries may need to be reheated. Eating at the restaurant doesn't have the same issues as take-out, the food is hot and tasty. Their ranchero sauce could be a little spicier but we like spicy food so it might just be a personal taste. read more

It really is a small place, but it's also kind of homey! We've been there several times and the food has been great every time. We've had both friendly, welcoming service and, once, rushed not-so-friendly service. I'm a stickler when it comes to service. I treat people warmly and respectfully, and I'm a great tipper, so I do expect a smile and a check-back after the food arrives to make sure everything is ok. I think maybe because it's so small there's an extra burden on the servers, maybe? Or they're human and our server was having a bad day. They've been great every other time and the food is consistently yummy. It's just old-fashioned, down home cooking. Check them out. read more

When you walk into this grub spot - you are transported to a small little mom & pop diner somewhere not here...California. The place is clean. The server, Amanda, was super nice and was excited to know we had "stumbled" on to it. It is a bit of a challenge to see from Vista Way so you have to watch for it! They are known for their Country Fried Steak so that's what I ordered. It was crispy, crunchy and tasty!! As she placed our order she told the cook, "it's their first time here - so make it with love!" Which is something you hear in other places...not here. The fact that they serve water in colorful mason jars only add to the ambience. The food was tasty!! The air conditioning was excellent - trust me you need it when you're in Vista. So if and when you're in Oceanside or Vista - make sure and stop by Mom's Kitchen...you'll feel right at home! If you dig my reviews - hit me back and let me know. We used to enjoy this restaurant when it was Allen's Alley. Their sausage gravy and biscuits was one of our favorites and it was usually packed. We came back a few times after it became Mom's Kitchen and were progressively disappointed. Today we tried it again hoping things had improved but the omletes tasted like a dirty grill and the sausage patty was nothing like it used to be. We will no longer be recommending this restaurant to family or friends and will not be back. read more

I love this place!! Even during these COVID times we were able to sneak in a meal in their outdoor eating area. We ordered the chilaquiles, Biscuit and Gravy, Short Stack Pancakes, and the veggie benedict. We actually loved it so much we came back in the same week to enjoy breakfast. I'm only giving three stars because the waitress was amazing. The food has definitely changed. I haven't been here for awhile decided to pop in and get the usual corn beef and hash. To my surprise it was canned and slimy. At least grill it and make it a little crispy to hide it came out of a can. Definitely disappointing. My toast was hard. Eggs and Hashbrowns were good. Cute spot for breakfast. There can be a wait during the weekends, as they do have a dry erase board outside with wait list. When I met two friends here there was no wait and we were promptly greeted and seated. The food was great, very tasty and hot. The service was just as great!
