The Frenchie

Upon arrival, we were not greeted. She didn't tell us anything so we assumed we had to seat ourselves. We had to wait 20+ minutes for our menus. The waitress just seemed really out of it. It was really awkward. We had to remind her twice for our coffees, and it took her a while to take down our orders. There was another couple who left before ordering their food, I'm sure it was because of the same reason. It was fairly empty when we walked in, like I had mentioned earlier, there was only one couple seated before us. Gave me mom and pop shop vibes. But here's the kicker: do not let that stop you from ordering the food here. If you can withstand mediocre customer service, the food here is phenomenal. My husband encouraged me to stay even though I wanted to leave and I'm glad we stayed for the food. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs and it was absolutely delicious. It was nice and crispy even though it was smothered in sausage gravy. The home fries were tasty too. It was crispy and tasted perfect! My husband got The Frenchie, and he liked it a lot. He said shout out to the hard working Latinos in the kitchen. And my son got the Cinnamon roll pancakes. Overall, this place would have been a 3/5 if the waitress would have been more attentive, or at least communicated with us.

Sometimes... you can go home again. Having graduated from Vista High in 1986, Allen's Alley was always a mainstay for weekend breakfasts or the mid week lunch. I moved away a long time ago and I hadn't eaten here in over 40 years. I was glad to see that it was still a running restaurant (though the name changed a while ago) staffed with some of the original cooks. I had to order my same order which consisted of 1/2 order of biscuit's and gravy, crispy hash browns and a single over-medium egg. I sat in the back, sipped on my coffee, and just wallowed in the nostalgia of that little hole in wall breakfast place that still serves a decent breakfast at a reasonable price. My entire meal with coffee was around $12 and that's a bargain anywhere. If you are driving through Vista, CA and you need a decent meal at a fair price, do yourself a favor and visit Mom's Kitchen (there a small framed photograph of it as Allen's Alley inside near the door - give it a gentle tap for good luck).

The staff was very friendly, and the food was very delicious! Would recommend to others

Mimosa flight

We stopped by on a busy Saturday morning, and even though the place was packed, the service was warm and welcoming. An older woman (I'm really hoping she was "Mom" herself!) greeted us with the kindest smile and made the whole experience feel like breakfast at home. We sat at the bar, and our food and drinks came out fast. I ordered the mimosa flight, and wow -- each one had the perfect ratio of crisp champagne to fresh, flavorful juice. The cinnamon roll pancakes were absolutely to die for -- fluffy, sweet, and perfectly glazed. Everything from the vibe to the food just hit right. I'd 100% come back again -- such a gem of a spot in Vista!

We love Mom's Kitchen! They have the best gluten free griddle I've ever tasted. We love this place and have never had any food we don't like. We love the Lox, biscuits & gravy, the cinnamon roll French toast is out of this world and the sandwiches are all great as well. Outdoor seating complements the indoor dinner with counter service. The only downside is that it's popular and small so you'll usually encounter a wait on the weekends but the location is a nice place to walk around for 15 min while you wait your turn.

Chicken Fried Steak

Cute small hole in the wall, but the food was a solid 3/5. It wasn't amazing but it wasn't terrible. My veggie omelette was kind of bland so I needed to pour cholula all over it. Hashbrowns were very mediocre, wasn't crispy at all. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and it was very average.

Mimosa flight. Pineapple, grapefruit, cranberry, and orange juice.

Definitely your traditional old skool diner. Food is ok, service is ok, ambiance is cool being in the heart of the village. Overall has the look & feel of a diner which feels cozy & nostalgic. I got steak & eggs. The steak was supposed to be medium but was cooked medium-well/well. It was tough and chewy. It seemed as if there were only 3 people working and we were sat immediately on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. That should've been the sign that it wasn't maybe the best spot. Our server was sweet but because she was the only server and food runner service is more on the slow side.

Ordered from doordash, not only had cold french toast but there was a hair in it! To make matters worse the sausage was completely raw inside and when ordering a biscuit even though they have the picture with gravy, its just a plain tasteless buscuit with butter. Dont bother eating here!

My family visited here recently and were pleasantly surprised we had never seen it previously. It will be added to our places to stop in when visiting the area. Parking lot is big as it's in a bigger shopping lot. It has 6 or so bench style tables inside to eat at. Several coolers with canned and bottled drinks-a big selection. Racks of chip options right by the checkout. The service was good, they were quick to take our order and greet us upon entering. Checked in on any sandwiches that needed to be wrapped up to go (there weren't though as we all ate our huge sandwiches). Looking toward to going back & trying their potato salad. Our interaction left us feeling unwelcome and discriminated against, and at that point we decided we would rather take our business somewhere else. It's disappointing because I was genuinely looking forward to trying Yellow Yeli and would have loved to give the food a fair chance. However, the experience we had before even being seated was enough for us to leave. Maybe the food is great, but personally, I wouldn't bother wasting my time trying again. There are too many other places where a party of 6 can feel welcomed and appreciated from the moment they walk in.

To my surprise Water Shack's burgers were delicious and satisfying that I find myself coming back here ever so often. Their burgers aren't the heavy, greasy/high fat patties you would get from other places. However, their 1/4 lb patties are their smallest patties and heft makes for that ideal bun to burger ratio. Did I need to order double patties on most of my burger orders? Probably not. Their patties are on the leaner side but they aren't dry; and the fixings from any burger you choose will satisfy that meaty burger fix you're looking for. The Chicken Patty Melt is also a very tasty item. Very cheesy, buttery and crispy toasted bread with chicken breast. Their fries and onion rings also come air-fried so this place focuses more on the healthier comfort food options that wont leave you feeling heavy and drowsy. This place is also doubled as a purified water dispensary and also serves baked goods and ice cream. Love this type of no-frills, unassuming place with very friendly staff and serves up some delicious food!

We ordered coffee and then started working on our laptops. From the get go we could tell the cashier woman was NOT a friendly person, it was like we were annoying her by being in her cafe. Our goal was to work there for the day and eat lunch there as well. There were hardly any other customers in the place the entire time we were there. At about 11:20 the cashier woman came to our table with our original receipt and showed us the time stamp on the receipt and said, "I told you you can only be here for about an hour, this is not the kind of cafe where you can sit and work all day." I said, "It's only 11:20, it's not even lunch time, we planned on ordering lunch here as well." She just walked away and said nothing. We should have left but we were in the middle of working.
