Love this place!! My wife and I are new to the area and have been having fun trying different local restaurants. We've been here twice now, and both times we were very pleased! We came for breakfast, and even though it's a small place, we were seated immediately -- at what is apparently becoming our regular table (twice so far ). The food is great! Connie, the owner, is wonderful and loves to chat. We heard a little of her story from someone else, which makes us even happier to support a local, family-run business. We definitely plan on becoming regulars. And did I mention the prices are crazy reasonable? Three pancakes, two eggs, and two sausage patties for $14.95! Great food, great people, and great prices. If I could give it a ZERO for this visit I would! I have been going to Connie's for several years dined outside etc. Met Coninie several times she showed us around and talked about all the wall goodies where they were from with MUCH pride she was a ball of joy!! BUT in the past year plus something has "drastically" changed in her personality, the last time I was in before this past week, she looked depressed and ready to give up, she said she was tired and her chef was out sick. I came very close to offering her a break and running her restaurant for a couple of weeks, FREE. I have many years of restaurant business, owned my own back in the day, and a great cook, so this would've been a piece of cake. I didn't but I decided to take a friend there last Wednesday from out of town. We sat down, she had a few tables but by no means busy, she came over to take our order, my friend ordered coffee, me water. She brought those like it was the toughest thing she had done that day, her energy was so DARK and ICCKY, I wanted to leave before we got started but we were hungry and had a big day planned. She was not the least bit FRIENDLY, I placed my order and asked if it would be possible to get my waffle after my main meal. If looks could "KILL", she glared disgustingly at me and said, "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME" I didn't quite know what to say it was a very simple request I wasn't asking to substitute or anything other than A TIME DEAL. She huffed and puffed and said, "I have that big table out there so it's gonna be awhile". It was a 6 top, WHOOPEE! I said that's fine, my friend ordered and she walked away, I sat for a minute and thought HELL NO, I will not be treated this way by anyone especially the owner of the restaurant and subject my friend to her ICKYNESS on her vacation! So I got up walked over to her open kitchen and said, "I think we will go somewhere we feel more wanted". she looked up glared and said fine! We started to walk out and she came out and said $3.00 for the coffee, like she was A DRILL SARGENT! I would have said, bleep, bleep, bleep BUT..... MY friend hadn't even touched it but put the $3.00 down and asked for a to go cup. That made her even madder, my firend said, tough day?AND her excuse yet again was her cook was sick. Sorry lady that only works for awhile and why was that our problem. I personally think it's time for her to retire with that attitude! We decided to go down to our new local restaurant "BLACK BEAR DINER"! What a great experience, had an excellent meal and service was awesome too. Will never return to Connie's NEGATIVE diner. First time visit to this small cafe in Vista. We came in at a bit of a rush time and only one server who was the owner Connie. We sat down right away. My husband had the 3 Pig omelet as he loves his pork. It was delicious and the parmesaun cheese on top just elevated it more. He asked for hash browns but got home fries. He was very pleased with that as they were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I got a sandwich and though I try to avoid potatoe when I heard the offering of garlic parmeseun fries,as a side I could not resist. They were absolutely delish with a nice savory crunch. Our tea and coffee were nice and brisk. To top it off at the end of our meal we were given a fruity pebbles and coffee homemade cookies! We had the most delicious mouth watering meal today at Connie's my mom was visiting and we wanted amazing diner food and man did they not disappoint Connie herself served us and took care of us for our time there and she was the cherry on top of everything absolutely obsessed and loved her energy not just amazing food but amazing energy and customer service from Connie's herself with jokes laughs and great talks. Back to the food itself everything is made here and fresh and you can taste it the potato salad I've never had a better one it was absolutely amazing the biscuits and gravy from the gravy to the biscuit everything was perfection. We were in town for a wedding and chose Connie's for breakfast. We were very happy with our decision. Food was delicious, good portions and very reasonably priced for the area. It appears to be run by two people with the owner Connie?) out front as a server and counter person and someone else in the back as a cook. I've been here twice, and I find the lady that runs the front of the house to be quite cold and bordering on rude. She really doesn't seem to have the personality for this type of business. Some have suggested that her demeanor is sarcasm. I love sarcasm and if this was supposed to be sarcasm, she's really bad at it also - this isn't Ed Debevic's. This is a really nice diner hidden away in Vista near Rancho Buena Vista High School on Melrose Ave. I ride my bike down this street often and had no idea Connie's was tucked away in this shopping center. We had a really nice breakfast and sat outside for sidewalk dining. They have 6 or so tables inside and a like number outside. Connie was very friendly and attentive during all parts of our meal. I had the ham & cheese omelette with home fries and sourdough toast. Coffee was also hot and tasty. Others in my party had the biscuits and gravy with hash browns and also a kids meal with a pancake, sausage and an egg. Really enjoyed ourselves and When the meal was over Connie brought out 3 peanut butter and jelly cookies. Never had one before but it was still soft and warm and delicious. Great food! We had the chicken fried steak which was really good. Sausage-loaded creamy gravy, nice-size breaded steak. The home fries were excellent - very crispy, fresh, deep-fried chopped potatoes. Didn't have onions or peppers like some other places, but they didn't need them. Poached eggs cooked perfectly. Hash browns were also good. Heard Connie brag about her pancakes to another table and had to try them. So glad we did! Some of the best pancakes we've ever had, might even be the best - crispy edges, super fluffy, tasted good even without syrup. Came with a generous side of butter, and Mrs. Buttersworth syrup was on the table. Look, if you like real maple syrup, I get you, but I grew up with Mrs. Buttersworth and nothing else beats it on pancakes for me. Connie's is a small place. The two of us went on a Friday morning and there were 2 open table inside and 1 outside. If you can, I'd suggest trying it on a weekday. A party of 5-6 should expect a wait, and parties larger than that might not fit at all. First time trying this place and it is good! I was very surprised by how hot the food was. I went to the gas station and starbucks and just got back and then Xu delivered the food. he must have been speeding because it was still hot. I appreciate that greatly. I tried the biscuits and gravy because the last time I had it elsewhere, it was not good. But this dish was great! it was a lot for me so I barely finished one biscuit of the Biscuits & Gravy. I didn't finish the stage and the inky thing I ate in its entirety was the scrambled egg. For the Little Piggy , it looked good but I didn't try it. However, all of it was eaten. And I really had a hankering for Pancakes, so I ordered that and it was good. I ate a quarter of it and then my bf finished all of the other plates. The building is Small but mighty good food. We have been to Connie's before and it never disappoints. Always plenty of food for the price and the service is always on point. You should try this small restaurant. I went there for lunch yesterday which was my first visit. It is a modest, storefront restaurant, run by the owner, Connie, and her son. Although I don't often eat red meat, I had to try the meatloaf sandwich after seeing it on the menu. It was delicious. The bread was lightly toasted perfectly. The meatloaf thick and flavorful, with a light tomato crust, just like my mom used to make. The potato salad was homemade, with the peels on--a far cry from the commercial version one usually finds. My friend had the French-dip sandwich, which he found to be equally wonderful. I am looking forward to going back to further explore the menu at this wonderful little restaurant. Anyway, there was nothing negative to report. The coffee is good, and the omelet was very good; tender, juicy, and loaded with great flavor! Prices are moderate and it's nice to not have some sort of sign that major restaurants have saying they are adding a surcharge for egg products. And my guess is they have lower egg "overhead" costs than your local shop. The venue is clean, and my favorite part is the decor; more specifically, all the placards on the wall. It's just loaded with humorous sayings. Kept my wife and me busy reading them. So yeah, some Yelpers claim that Connie is rude. My guess is it's related to her style of sarcastic humor having nothing to do with any rudeness. Case in point: As we were leaving, I told her that if there wasn't anything else positive, her fruit was the best I've ever had! Fresh, juicy, sweet & tasty. Her reply? Visiting our family in Vista and they recommended for all of us to go to Connie's... I underestimated how great this food would be. I get why they have such amazing reviews! The food was so, so good. We ordered the grilled roast beef (delicious!), the western burger (delicious!), the Hawaiian burger (also delicious), the Reuben (oh my gosh so good), and three French dips... you can't go wrong with any of it! This is a neighborhood place and the customers call the owner, Connie, by name. It is a tiny little diner with additional seating outside. The decor has cute signs on the walls that you can read while you wait. This is how breakfast food is done right. Connie is no-nonsense so don't go in trying to customize stuff or you might get the side-eye. But you can see how much the owner cares for the regulars and when she has time she will stop and chat- but the place is busy so go early. It is very home Homie feeling. There's lots of fun little art sayings on the wall and it's just a small sweet spot. I ordered a few sides and the service was super friendly and quick. My eggs and hashbrowns were tasty and my water was kept filled. I love the little outdoor seating area too, but I was a little too cold to sit outside when I got my check there was a chocolate cookie with white chocolate chips with it. That was a very nice touch. Based on Yelp reviews, we decided to try Connie's for my husband's birthday breakfast. The restaurant is small. 4, four tops, 3, two tops, and a couple of tables outside. Inside is decorated with cute/funny wall plaques. Connie is the server/busser, and Bill is the cook. I ordered biscuits and gravy (pictured), the hubs ordered the Piggy, and the kid ordered apple pie french toast. The food was served hot and it was delicious! I used to really like this place until two regular customers were using racist terms like "dumb Mexican" and that "young Mexicans are lazy and should just go to school and get an education instead of taking time off" loudly inside of the restaurant to the point that the guest outside could hear as well. When the owner of the restaurant, Connie, overheard she did nothing to stop this disgusting ignorant speech and customers continued with the comments getting INCREASINGLY ignorant AND racist. All of the guests eating outside were making VISIBLE eye contact with each other considering how IGNORANT AND DISGUSTING this customer was speaking inside of the establishment and the owner did zero to stop this kind of speech. read more
