Mom's kitchen has great soups (like pork bone soup or tofu). Aside from that, I haven't been a fan of their bibimbap and other dishes I've tried. It's not bad but I would prefer to go to a different restaurant for authentic Korean cuisine. The prices and menu is reasonable. There isn't a lot of side dishes offered though. Their service is quick and staff is polite, nothing too personable. It is a smaller restaurant so be prepared to wait during dinner time. Not a lot of tables for larger groups to walk in either- reservation is recommended! This is a great Korean restaurant to go to if you're in the area but I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to try it. read more

Decent portions, recently priced. Everything as expected. My friend and I were craving tofu stew and was recommended Mom's Kitchen, which is located on the upper level parking lot by the TnT plaza. When you first walk in, you may have the impression that the restaurant is fairly big due to the mirrors, but it comfortably sits about 10 tables. The staff are friendly and the overall atmosphere felt clean. My friend and I both ordered the spicy tofu stew, one with seafood and the other with pork. The order came fairly quickly with rice and refillable side dishes. Everything was as expected. Overall, pleasant experience and the perfect way to end the night. read more

I'm going to give this restaurant a proper review of their food. I cannot believe that some of the other reviewers went into what music was playing and that chicken tasted like chicken...how am I supposed to base my decision to eat here on stupid reviews like that? First, I am Korean so I know what Korean food is supposed to taste like and the food here is good. It's not the best in the world but overall, it's tasty and satisfying. The pork bone soup is seasoned well and tastes balanced with a slow simmered broth. The ginger doesn't overpower the pork. The heat is right, although I think they may have made it milder for non-Korean palates. It's not the best pork bone soup but it is very decent. The beef soup is bland and tastes more like a clear broth gom-tang so I don't recommend it unless you like plain tasting soup bases. They give very generous portions for the price and the takeout containers are very good quality. The kimchi fried rice is very savory and I like how they cut the kimchi into tiny pieces so that the taste is dispersed well throughout the dish, I do wish they put more pork meat pieces. The black bean noodle is what you would expect and made with pan fried black bean sauce (gan) rather than regular black bean sauce--usually it costs more but it looks as if the cost is the same as regular black bean sauce.They also give a very generous container of kimchi. I do think the kimchi may be store bought however it is tasty. See my photos for reference. This is a decent restaurant and deserves four stars. If they improved on the kimchi and gave just a bit more pork in the kimchi fried rice then it would be a four and a half to five star rating. UPDATE: as of September 2018, this restaurant has improved even more. I think they read their feedback on Yelp. The beef rib soup is much tastier now and the beef chucks are very generously portioned. They don't give out as much kimchi however, they have made up for that with various other tasty side dishes. Tried for the first time and got a few things for takeout. Pork soondubu had a nice kick to it and packed with tender beef and soft tofu. Would've liked some veggies in there as a personal preference but still delicious. Really liked the texture of the black bean noodles. The gimmari was delicious and maintained crispiness even when we got home, not something I see on a lot of menus so that was a nice surprise. Sullangtan was a bit too salty for us. Liked the variety of banchans - pickled radish, kimchi, glass noodles and seaweed. They have a really big menu so I would order from here again and try different items (with gimmari being a definite repeat). read more

Mom's Kitchen is the newest Korean restaurant that opens at The Mall at Langham. Menu is quite similar to most of any other Korean restaurants. Price is quite good as most of the items starts at $7.99. A+ for service. The waitress really takes the time to go over the menu and make recommendations and help with the spice level. She speaks English and Cantonese. I ordered a Wooguhji Haejangguk ($7.99) which is the Hangover Soup. The portion is generous with tons of cabbage and bean sprouts. I was surprise to find a few piece of beef short ribs. Extra spicy was requested with addition of pieces of fresh Jalapeno. Side dish Banchan was weak. Kimichi tasted bland. Since I was eating alone, I was served everything on 1 plate. Mom's Kitchen does serves some decent Korean food. As there is not much other choice in the neighbourhood, I hope they will do well. Shareable and well portioned, paired with steamed rice made a solid lunch. 4/5 She was looking for some comfort food to warm up on a chilly afternoon. The Soondubu Soup proved to be a winner with what felt like a bottomless bowl. Chose the pork option instead of the seafood. The tofu was melt-in-your-mouth soft. The spice was just right to clear the sinuses out. 5/5 As per HER request, we got the Deep-Fried Chicken Wings. Thought there would be more spice to this. Came out plain-Jane, the lemon helped a bit. For real, I didn't even know there was a Korean restaurant here and have always gone to owl of minerva. I'm glad my partner suggested it. We got a seafood pancake, spicy Tteokbokki, and bibimbap during our first visit. This is during the covid lockdown, so take out was the only option. I would say the food is average here. I may change the rating since takeout is usually a hit or miss when it's not fresh out like dine in. The tteokbokki was a tad too spicy for myself and the seafood pancake was very oily possibly from the travel home. Bibimbap was also average. Solid 4 stars. The food was tasty and the service was prompt. Reason that it's a 4 stars is because there are other korean restaurants I prefer but this one is closer to home. I definitely will be back if I need a korean food fix though! We ordered the kimchi stew and pork bone stew. They served 6 side dishes and they were accommodating when we asked for more of the fish cake side dish. Flavours were great, and they ask you for your preferred level of spiciness. Their regular spicy was not really spicy but keep in mind I like spicy lol. There was plenty of meat on the pork bones and they were fall off the bone tender. This is my go to for hot stone bibimbap in the area, and I especially like that they have purple rice which adds a nutty flavour when it gets crispy. I've also tried the Seafood Soon Tofu Soup, but found it to be a bit strong for my taste due to the dried shrimp, however I think it works well as a shared item. Great food with great menu options has all the classic signature dishes that you would expect from a Korean restaurant as well as beer combo options. Really like their menu. Their cold noodles were good on a hot summer day and they have many versions of bone soup, some with kimchi and all flavoured nicely. The dumplings weren't bad either. This spot is an okay place to get some non-authentic Korean food. It is run by Chinese people. They do not accomodate people with strollers well. Seating is quite tight. The food is far too sweet as they use too much sugar in the cooking. The pickled veges and kimchi was not fresh. They will refill them if you ask though. The rice they used was way too wet and mushy. Only white rice was served. The food was served hot which was nice. Service was not friendly and not quick. There was only 1 other table seated at the restaurant and they would not let us sit at a table that was convenient to place our stroller and the server told us we had to sit by the front door. The pork bone soup was not bad. I asked for extra spicy as I have been told that their regular spicy is not too spicy. There was a fair amount of meat and it was tender for the most part. In terms of the soup base, the spice level hit the spot nicely but the pork broth and garlic flavour could definitely be more amped up. The rice that came with the pork bone soup was a bit of a downer. They used a very small short grain rice which did not seem to match well with the soup. Great place. We ordered Kimchi stew, dukbokki, and a chicken dish (cant recall the name). Everything was super tasty and i had one of those moments where I couldnt get up after eating...ibwas way too full but the food was good. I've been really into dukbokki and so Ive tried more than a few versions from different restaurants. They made it perfect here. The rice cakes had that satisfying chew that dukbokki lovers seek. As for the chicken and the kimchi stew, great flavours, great spice. Prices are reasonable and comparable to other relatively cheap places like owl of minerva. Mom's Kitchen is located in the Langham plaza south of Highway 7 and on Kennedy. Parking spots near this restaurant are limited due to the many restaurants and chiropractic practice next door, but there is an underground parking you can go to. The double doors definitely prevent the cold from seeping into the restaurant (not super large place). The prices are rather inexpensive for a Korean place - about $7.99 for a meal. Their banchan consisted of seaweed salad, potatoes (this was actually hot and not sweet, but tasted like soup potatoes), kimchi, bean sprouts and radish slices. The waitress was very nice and speaks Cantonese as well as English. We decided to try their seafood pancake and their pork bone soup. Both items were mediocre, though I'd like to say that their seafood pancake consisted of quite a few items including shrimp, chives, scallop and the base was made from egg and sweet potato flour. The pork bone soup in my opinion could be a little spicier and could have been cooked with more flavour in it. All together, it was $10 a person! Great for dinner on a weekday night! read more

this place is amazing and my go to Korean restaurant !! the prices are cheaper than typical places and I always try new things here that all tastes great. unfortunately recently they raised most of there prices by $1. anyways I have tried their pork one soup before and I have never had a disappointing pork bone soup out of anywhere I've ever been to. the pork bone is tender and they give you a lot of it. the soup is spicy and flavourful and includes a bowl of rice 4.5/5 I also have gotten the soft tofu spicy soup, forgot the exact name but it's rlly good as well. has the same type of soup flavour except without the pork taste and you can choose either seafood or pork as a meat for it. really good as well and the tofu melts in your mouth 4.5/5 I've also gotten the pork katsu with rice. the sauce they serve with it is this creamy sweet and sour sauce that you can put on the pork by yourself as they give it in a squeeze bottle. it tastes sooo good with the rice and pork. the pork is juicy and flavourful. Amazing ! lastly recently I got their army stew which is boodae jigae and I got it for 3 ppl it was $30. it comes in a hot pot style with 2 bowls of rice and a ramen inside the pot. there are sooo many ingredients packed inside like fish cakes, rice cakes, kimchi, tofu, mushrooms, onion, sausage, spam and more! the soup is once again the spicy soup that I think is the same as the tofu stew but I love it. all the ingredients pair well together and in the end we were all full and there was still more in the pot! would definitely recommend this if you're going with a group 5/5 overall this place is amazing with great service and even better food. you also get free side dishes at the start and if you ask for refills they give it to you. try this place out! :) read more

Mom's Kitchen's serves up Korean food that doesn't exactly impress but gets the job done if you're craving it. The menu is smaller than most Korean restaurants but seems to have the main staples. We ended up getting the gamjatang and two varieties of bibimbap - the original, and the spicy pork. The side dishes were mostly underwhelming save for the kimchi. Their gamjatang was pretty good, the flavour is good (although it was heavier in terms of soybean flavour than most places), and the pork bones was definitely fall off the bone. But that craziest part was that there wasn't enough potatoes! Gamja means potato in korean, how did their gamjatang not have any potatoes? The bibimbap was incredibly standard. I do think it's worth paying more to upgrade from the original and get the extra meat like kalbi/spicy pork as the ground pork was poor. The portion size is pretty large for a bibimbap too. Markham isn't exactly known for it's good Korean food, and it's still worth the drive to North York, Thornhill, or Scarborough for better Korean options. read more

I find the most difficult reviews to write are those that are neither good nor bad. I'm sure you know where I'm getting at...yup, this restaurant is another mediocre establishment. To find the restaurant, it's easiest to park outdoors in this cluster**** of a plaza lols. The restaurant is facing the entrance of the parking lot, meaning it's placed beside shops like Millie Cafe. The decor is pretty simple and staff can speak Chinese (psst, not Korean lols). Their menu is easy to read and doesn't overwhelm you with a dictionary of dishes lols. We didn't order the staples like pork bone soup or other types of soups because we had a group of 5 ladies and wanted to share. I will give them credit for not kicking us out; we were frigg'n loud. Anyone who wanted to eavesdrop on our conversations would know we were talking about boys, but we were pretty funny you gotta admit lols. One of the staff members got annoyed at us when we asked for tea refill. C'mon woman, I know we were a bit loud but this is our first request. The usual greedy me would have already asked for side dish refills but we didn't lols. I was browsing through their menus on Yelp and noticed a price hike since it was last posted (1.5 years ago). I felt that their sizzling plate with beef was made quite well. Not enough meat in my opinion, but the beef was tender and juicy. The pieces were a bit tiny, though packed with lots of flavour. The hot pot is usually every Korean restaurant's highlight, but Mom's Kitchen's rendition of this sucked. Usually, I would drink the soup dry lols, but I had one sip and went bleh. What makes Korean hot pot good? I think we need to start with a soup base that is tasty and vegetables that are fresh. I can't say for sure that the ingredients in this pot were that appetizing. I'm pretty sure they used the cheapest ramen noodles ever, it didn't taste like anything and couldn't absorb any of the soup's flavour. The meat was bland, and the veggies were plain as hell. The seafood pancake wasn't bad; I think the portions were adequate. I do have a complaint that it was a tad too thick and the sauce was more salty than expected. The rice cake dish was normal, nothing to complain about. The rice cakes were not too chewy and the spiciness didn't knock us over lols. The taste was like the typical pork bone soup you would get at the average Korean restaurant, nothing extraordinary, but definitely not below average. Not to mention, the pork bone soup also came with a bowl of rice, and a couple of side dishes. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with the side dishes as the amount they gave was relatively little, and were a little bit stingy with the amount they refilled. Yeah, yeah, YES! I like the Korean food here, as the "one chilli" food is not too spicy. Sure, you can call me chicken, but I prefer to eat Korean "mild" or non-spicy. So if I tell you that the "one chilli" spiciness level at Mom's Kitchen is good for me, and in fact I added MORE chilli sauce into the rice, you should take the hint that the "one chilli" level here is just a step up from a hint of heat. Now that I have set your expectation right, here is the review of the two bibimbaps and a Spicy Pork Dupbap. We ordered one non-spicy regular bibimbap, and one spicy squid bibimbap (1-chilli). The portion of both was generous. Probably the most important ingredient of a bibimbap, the rice was good. It was soft and supple. The regular bibimbap had no particular flavour. Just mixed some banchan in, and the problem was solved. I tried some of BF's spicy squid. It was covered in authentic Korean lip-licking-delicious spicy sauce, at maybe medium spiciness level. Except there wasn't that much sauce. Once my BF mixed the rice up, the spiciness was mellowed to 1-chilli/mild level. He scrapped the bottom of the big bowl. I took that he liked the food. The Spicy Pork Dupbap was my idea. It was a good quantity of pork and a bowl of white rice on a plate. I could tell the pork was not only cooked in the Korean spicy sauce, it was marinated in it. The spice sipped inside the meat. No matter how the rice diluted the heat of the sauce, the pork slices remained spicy. I would call the entree mildly spicy overall. As previously mentioned, I added more chilli sauce into the dupbap, as I found the contrast between the pork and the rice too big. So here is the scoop. Is Mom's Kitchen authentic Korean? I am no expert, but it tastes similar to the bibimbap I have eaten at many places. The spicy sauce tastes quite good and spicy, but it is not suicidal spicy like some places. If you eat non-spicy to medium spicy like myself, Mom's Kitchen hits the sweet spot. And this is exactly why I rate here 4 stars - I can eat everything on the menu, something I cannot do at many other Korean places. It helps that the price is very reasonable. A bibimbap costs $8. Services was friendly, polite and effective. The interior decoration is simple and down to earth. We were given 6 banchan. So Mom's Kitchen is more than likely being ran by Chinese owners instead of a Korean lady as you would expect. There is only one worker but she's very efficient and fluent in both Cantonese and English. The menu is small but has staples of what you'd look for in a Korean restaurant. I ordered the soondubu tofu soup and was very happy with my order. The tofu was silky and smooth. It was definitely cooked to the right amount as it kept its shape and didn't fall apart at the slightest touch. I just wish there was a little more soup and pork ): My sister and her BF got a pork bone soup which they finished but said the potato tasted weird? The side dishes were definitely lacking. The seaweed salad was good and fresh. The spicy pork on rice ("dweji bulgoki dubbap") wasn't very spicy and had a lot of oil. The pork was done well though, it was juicy and tender. The size of the food portions was good and the dishes are priced quite low compared to most other Korean restaurants. Service was average for an Asian restaurant. They speak English and Cantonese here. There was difficulty getting a waitress' attention to pay at the end. Gamjatang soup $8 .... DELICIOUS. Not disappointed at all. They were great with the sides, we got an extra order because there were 4 of us. My friends got the bibimbap $9, gyoza $5, bulgogi $12. Everyone enjoyed the food. It would've been even better if it was a tad cheaper. But in this hood, the prices are expected.
