I have been fortunate to be able to find and dine at several Himilayan/Nepalese restaurants in the Boston area, and every one of them has so far been a great experience. Tonight, I added Momo Masala to that list. I was also fortunate to have friends who live nearby, and when I mentioned to them I was going (hopefully to invite them), they said it was one of their regular places for take-out. But they also informed me that they did not have a liquor license. But that recently changed!! They now offer beer, wine, cocktails, and whiskey pours - none of these are huge amounts, but there are certainly enough options for any of these. Our group of 4 did sample several cocktails. They aren't super fancy (though some drinks do have garnishes or salty/spiced rims), but everything is well crafted. Momos first, if course. They offer several varieties, but if you prefer yours steamed, read the menu carefully, as not all varieties are available steamed. We got vegetable and chicken momos, the chicken ones in a broth. Their medium level of spiciness provided a nice but not overwhelming kick. Our entrees continued the high quality. Their chicken tikka masala has a very dark and rich sauce, and the chicken chunks were tender. The lamb was equally good. The naan here (we got garlic) is very crisp, just the way I like it. This is a popular take-out spot, but there are enough tables to accommodate people who dine in conveniently, with a relaxing ambiance. This is another great add to the wide variety of dining options in Jamaica Plain.

Wow. Just wow. We ordered takeout and got two types of momos, one veggie and one chicken, in two different sauces, jhol and hariyali. First of all, just the fact that they have these different sauces for the momos like jhol, hariyali, and tandoori put them a notch above the rest. On top of that, the flavors were absolutely drool worthy. The momos were delicious by themselves but then you have the sauce and that elevated the dish to the next level. I'm glad we ordered takeout because we licked the bowls clean. The order was ready fast, arrived in basically no time, and was piping hot. Great flavor, and great value for money!

Garlic Naan, Saag Paneer, and Chicken Kadhai Special

My wife and I stumbled into Momo Masala on a summer Jamaica Plain evening, and it immediately felt like we'd found someone's cozy kitchen halfway around the world. The space has that "neighborhood gem" energy -- small, warm, and full of spice aromas that make you hungrier the longer you sit. We started with the Samosa Chaat, and honestly, it set the tone for the whole meal -- tangy, crunchy, and full of flavor layers that made it hard to stop eating. The Saag Paneer was rich and comforting, and the Chicken Kadhai had just the right balance of spice and savoriness. The Garlic Naan came out warm, buttery, and perfect for scooping everything up (and yes, we definitely fought over the last piece). What really stood out, though, was the staff. They were genuinely kind and attentive -- the kind of service that makes you feel like they actually care if you're enjoying your meal. And for all that food, the bill came to around $60 -- incredible value for how flavorful and filling everything was. If you're craving authentic Nepalese and Indian comfort food without the pretense, Momo Masala should be at the top of your list. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit.

The service was quick and the food was plentiful. We stayed past their open hours (by mistake) and they didn't rush us out which was greatly appreciated. Definitely would return if in the area!

Ordered food for takeout. Everything was well packaged. The portions are very large for the price! Everything tasted really good. I would order from here again!

Hands down some of the best Indian food in Boston! We got takeout but the resteraunt itself seemed very busy with both diners and people getting takeout. The food was beyond flavorful and tasty. Very reasonably priced as well compared to the other Indian resteraunts in the city. Cannot recommend this place enough! Definitely a must when coming to Boston

Momo Masala remains our favorite go-to restaurant in JP. From the courteous and patient staff to the delicious food, we've thoroughly enjoyed every visit to Momo Masala. The chili momos are an absolutely staple in our orders and we would definitely recommend them. The lamb curry is delicious and we've ordered it several times, and it consistently delivers. Our cocktails were pretty run-of-the-mill, but we don't visit for the drinks.... It's all about the food here! We will be back for sure.

Came with a friend after a long walk at the park and the food definitely satisfied our hunger! It is a casual and friendly establishment serving delicious Nepali and Indian cuisine. We got the momo masala, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. It was my first time having momos and it was SO GOOD! I definitely would come back for these. The waiter didn't come and check in, but if we needed a refill of our water she would kindly and quickly did so after we asked.

Tandoori Momo

I tried Tandoori veg Momo for the first time. It's interesting as it's similar to dumpling but different. I'm ok with the fillings but the sauce is good. But the sauce is very salty. The mango lassi is ok. The mango flavor is not that strong. I also tried the vegManchurian (Indo-Chinese) dish. It is my first time too. Even though it doesn't remind me of anything Chinese, but the taste is the best of the day. Even though it's very salty again. I'm not sure if they were designed to eat with bread/naan/rice. I ordered medium spiciness and it has the right kick (American level spicy). I gave 3 stars mainly for the saltiness of the food. The service is good. And parking is easy to find around the block. They have tables available on Friday night without a reservation.

This is the third time I've come and was very happy with it again. We got a couple different things, but the chicken momo masala was particularly noteworthy! Service was very friendly and courteous. It was also fairly calm inside. Highly recommend!

Ordered a takeout order food ready right on time. We were greeted with a smile and walked away with food ready to get back home. New restaurants have there challenges, but this one is running along nicely and the food is to die for. See photos for more.

WOW! What a treat to welcome Himalayan food to JP. And such incredible food it is. Make sure you try not just the classic Indian dishes like tikka masala and palak paneer, but the momos from the end of the menu. I haven't had Himalayan food before and really enjoy the combination of spices. A+ for allergy safety, lots of options for people with nut or wheat allergies, and a big vegan menu! Momo does a lot of take out business and they're fast and reliable. Eating in is also very pleasant with a bright sunny space and extremely good waitstaff. I enjoyed the music and the ambiance in general. There aren't many tables, so on busier nights you might need a reservation. There is one big table in a separate area that would be nice for a group of 8-10. The best part of eating in was eating the food right out of the oven- the garlic naan smelled so good and tasted crispy and delicious. I love this restaurant and I'm so glad they opened!

Great to have a Momo place in the neighborhood. Ambiance: Decent, sitting, tables, decor, etc. However, place seems a bit small. That being said I got a table right away, went around 6:15 PM. Service: No complaints here, the staff are friendly, and they did allow me to do a half and half on the types of momo, which let me try two types. Food: I got medium level spice, so wasn't too spicy, but also intentional because wanted to see how flavors were. The flavors in the momo were great. I ordered Chicken Tandoori Momo and the Chicken Hariwali Momo Masala. I preferred the Hariwali. They give 10 in one order, took the rest home, so would recommend splitting the order if with someone. Laccha Paratha was good. GREAT chicken curry, the blend of spices, bell pepper, onion reminded me a a bit of Kanda Bateta Nu Shak. My next item to try will likely be the Eggplant Bhartha, there menu seems to have a lot of variety.

I am SO glad we did, because we were so impressed. Sauces were rich and flavorful, and the naan was warm and comforting- especially paired with the sauce. The saag paneer (spinach and cheese) was nicely spiced, with an opportunity to taste out the flavors of the spinach. The cheese was nicely flavored as well. The chicken tikka masala was creamy, with a nice set of spices and something a bit extra in the flavoring that made it a bit unique. I would have liked to see a greater volume of chicken pieces, but the pieces that I did get were tender and cooked nicely. The okra (Bhindi Bhuna) was really nicely flavored. But the okra itself was too stringy, with a mix of hard bits and tough bits. The okra needs to be significantly more tender. All in all a nice meal! Excellent service also.

When we arrived, the man hosting took our order and immediately pointed out that gratuity was already included because "people often come, eat, and don't leave a tip." While we completely agree that servers deserve to be tipped for delivering exceptional service, being lectured about it before we even received our food felt incredibly unprofessional and unwelcoming. To make matters worse, the food did not live up to our last visit. We used to love when the meats were served in silver trays for family-style sharing. This time, my goat curry was served in a single bowl with a tiny portion--literally only 3 pieces of goat--making it impossible to even share a bite with my mom. To top it off, the curry completely lacked authenticity and just tasted like plain tomato sauce. We also ordered garlic naan, but it came out so well-done it felt like hard toast bread. To his credit, he did take the naan off the bill. Before realizing how bad the dine-in food would be, I had ordered a chicken tikka masala to go. When I got home and tried it, it had absolutely no flavor. I don't know what changed over the last couple of months, but the old menu and quality were a million times better. We left hungry and highly disappointed.

Decent South Asian and Nepalese place with surprisingly a karaoke night!…read more The bara is a fried pancake of sorts, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The dipping sauce was good as well, possibly a mint-like flavor. The pork momos were really good too, with nice crimping on the skin and decent fillings inside. The chicken vindaloo was decent, though I might have liked more specificity to the flavoring of the vindaloo. The potatoes were nicely textured. The chicken bites were a bit large, they could have been chopped up a bit. The gorkhali khasi (a goat curry) was fairly decent with tender nice pieces. The flavoring was oversalted and again could have used a tad more definition. The bone-in aspect was appreciated as it held the flavor of the meat. The bhindi masala (okra) was fairly successful with a solid infusion of flavor into the okra. The dish was overall too oily though and some steps need to be taken to minimize the oil. All in all quite enjoyable!

This time, I came during a really busy night and my order ticket didn't end up printing correctly. A couple of the dishes I got weren't what I ordered, so I notified the staff. They immediately addressed the mistake and told me they were going to remake the order. While this was happening, there were a number of people waiting for their food. One of the customers was particularly difficult, and kept pestering the staff taking orders to check on the status of her order. The restaurant did an amazing job of managing the other customers orders and remaking the dishes that I had originally ordered. Would definitely recommend coming here!

The wait never got better, but again, I couldn't beat it. This past weekend helped me realize why. We ordered 1 appetizer of samosa and 3 entrees to share. They cannot handle the amount of orders, and it creates a horrible customer experience for most. They do their best, hence the 3 star. They served us our actual dishes, plus fresh appetizer. Still, they forgot my drink so I ended up just paying for it again. At this point, I have 5 entrees I didn't order, so why not support a small business by ordering again? I felt bad at first. But given their popularity, please do a little bit better. Your food is genuinely phenomenal, flavorful, and delicious, so serve your customers better.
