Its a great homey cafe, and right away I loved the busy atmosphere. There were only two of us, so even though they were very busy (Sunday brunch time) there was room at the counter for us. We were greeted immediately in a friendly manner and served our drink orders. The waitress checked on us quickly (without being intrusive) and answered any questions we had. While waiting for our food, I noticed that almost half the people that came in were greeted familiarly, all of them being regulars (always a good sign). Our food arrived hot and fresh, and was delicious! AMAZING biscuits and homestyle white gravy, smoky thick-cut crisp bacon...and very large portions as well. My husband and I both ordered breakfast items, but the lunch items being served looked good as well. My only complaint is that I didn't have room for any of the scrumptious looking homemade pies that were displayed. This is our new favorite place. My family and I go to Molly J's all the time. The service is outstanding. The food is all good with one exception, the chicken fried steak is frozen, not fresh, like it used to be (they did not charge me for the CFS when I questioned it) Everything else is great especially the homemade bread and pies. This little place is a cute little country diner! The food was pretty tasty, their biscuits are nice and fluffy which I LOVE. The menu was not very descriptive though, and they were so busy, I felt bad taking the waitress' time asking about the various omelets they had listed. So, i was a little disappointed when i ordered the "spanish omelet " and basically received eggs with salsa. But they substituted fruit for hash browns which was great! The price was pretty decent as well... We paid about $20 for breakfast for two, so not bad. They were pretty busy on the saturday morning we went, and hardly any tables available, but it's a small place, so it doesn't take much to fill it up. I love breakfast. In fact I fix breakfast every morning. So maybe my bar is a bit high. My husband took me out today because we were going on a road trip to see the wild flowers. So I ordered a hearty breakfast. Country ham, eggs over medium. has browns and biscuit and gravy. My husband had scrambled eggs, 2 pancakes and bacon. First of all the coffee taste old. My potatoes were mushy, not crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. I did put some salsa on them and it did make them better. The ham was tasty (you can't mess ham up to easily) The eggs were right. The biscuit was big and fluffy but lacked flavor and texture. The gravy was very bland. I have yet to find good gravy in Bakersfield. My husband said his pancakes were very good, the bacon about medium good and the eggs (scrambled) good. Service was excellent (we sat at the counter). I will go back again and order something that may be more of a specialty such as their chili verde omlette and the country potatoes with onions and peppers. read more

Was recommended this place by a local family member for their breakfast. Walking in was a very family "home" style feeling. The menu was a little confusing to read as it goes lunch, dinner, senior's breakfast menu, and then the regular breakfast menu at the end. Unfortunately they didn't have a French toast combo so I had to create one by ordering french toast by itself $8 and a #2 combo (2eggs, 2 sausage) another $8. So all in all it was $16 for 2 slices of French toast, 2 eggs, 2 sausage.... definitely the MOST expensive I have ever had. When it arrived it kind of looked awkward because there was a big plate with 2 eggs and 2 tiny pieces of sausage link on it and another big place with French toast. Guaranteed could have all fit on one plate. As far as taste, not bad but not $16 worth. The sausage tasted like it was cooked in the same pan as my mother-in-laws Chile Verde. That's not exactly what you expect when biting into a sausage to compliment a sweet French toast bite. We also ordered biscuits and gravy which I'm pretty confident was Pillsbury biscuits you get as the store as they were very flat and tiny, not fluffy and large like other places. The gravy wasn't my flavor, I enjoy a sausage gravy and this was more just salty flavorless not savory gravy. The end of the meal was complimented with a very delicious snickerdoodle cookie. Had they not provided this, I would have rated 3 stars for sure. If you're looking for a great breakfast that won't break the bank, you may need to look elsewhere. However, if you want a decent breakfast with an awesome snickerdoodle cookie, this is the place for you. read more

Fantastic brunch! Best Eggs Benedict in town, and I've tried almost all of them. Great hash browns, and the ranch dressing was not that nasty out-of-the-bottle buttermilk thing. Pancakes were fluffy and just sweet enough to be absolutely delicious without overdoing it. Best of all, we were seated immediately, and the waitress was extremely considerate and friendly. When my eggs didn't come out to my weird and unusual specifications the first time, she took them back immediately without my even asking and had the cook redo them perfectly. She gave my little sister some coloring materials, and made her pancake a Mickey Mouse face shape with grapes and melons and fresh applesauce. Amazing deal for the less than $3 price of her meal. As we were given out check, we were also given two free freshly-baked snickerdoodles cookies, warm and melt-in-your-mouth-ish. When we first discovered it, we truly enjoyed going for breakfast. We tried it for dinner one time and it was terribly bland; didn't enjoy it at all. It all went down hill when we realized that our credit card had been charged twice for one meal...I called the restaurant and the manager was not very helpful at all.I had my bank statement as proof but to be honest I didn't feel like dealing with them at all. Best Eggs Benedict I've ever had! The Hollandaise sauce was so good, it had like a mildly sweet undertone that I haven't tasted in other restaurants. Had breakfast there this morning. It was busy but we were seated pretty fast. Our waitress was civil, but that is about the extent of it. She did her job without a smile or any real friendliness. The food was good. My son enjoyed his kid's breakfast plate with sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, eggs and toast. My husband had the 6oz steak and eggs special with hashbrowns, over easy eggs and a biscuit and gravy. He said the steak was tender but lacked flavor, the hashbrowns were average, the eggs were great, the biscuit was very good and the gravy was only so-so, much better after the addition of salt, pepper and a little hot sauce. I had the chile verde omelet, with country potatoes and biscuit and gravy. I loved the omelet, it was stuffed with cheese and delicious chile verde that was not at all spicy, just tender and flavorful. The country potatoes were extremely good, crispy, salty and great flavor with the bell peppers and onions mixed in. The gravy was pretty flavorless so I followed my husband's lead and it was good after the additions of salt, pepper and hot sauce. The biscuits are very good. All in all, we will probably go back. Just order the country potatoes instead of hashbrowns and toast instead of biscuit and gravy. read more

I heard good things about this restaurant but I went in there and sat in the corner and the place was dead, and i was organizing my shopping bag and purse looking at the menu and the owner threw me out because it took me 10-15 minutes to order something and we had words and he said he was going to call the police if I didn't leave and so I left and he was very rude and I talked to one of his employees and she says that's the way he is and she felt bad about it but I've never been treated that bad at a restaurant. I told him I was going to YELP him and he said he didn't care. I did not know he was the owner. Oh well! read more
