I wish there was a main dish on the menu with the sichuan pepper, garlic, scallion preparation like that! Consider adding to menu: Maybe replace the current very breaded garlic dish with this preparation. Add a pork belly, cilantro, cumin dish to menu too. Maybe a lamb cumin cilantro. A sesame chicken dish would also be a good crowd pleaser. Consider adding Mapo cabbage and mapp tofu. Japchae with wild mushrooms. Also please stop lighting the duck on fire. I got the angry bird for an app and the Peking duck fried rice. I've had szcheuan chicken before and the angry bird was described as having numbing spices but there were no szcheaun peppercorns. What a great restaurant with such a cool vibe, right here on Greenwich Ave. I have been here several times, but realized I had not reviewed this place. The place is trendy, and anyone who goes there, if they remember one thing, it has to be the chandelier, that dangles right in the center. The bar section always is crowded, specially in the evenings, and even for a table it is better to reserve in advance as it gets booked very quickly. As far as the food is concerned, I have loved their presentation and the taste backs it. The Tuna Tartare and the Shrimp Dumplings are great starters, and the fiery Kung Pao chicken is both hot and flavorful. Others I have tried are the Peking duck, which was very fun to assemble. I was so excited to dine at this restaurant after following it on IG and after having been to both Miku and Hinoki. My cousin from out of town wanted to treat me to a birthday dinner so I suggested Moli! We're seated and from the start our server makes us feel rushed. I ask to learn her name (Romie) and our appetizers sadly make it to the table before our drinks. She barely came to check us and it wasn't until Osmond the saving grace in this whole experience came around. He took our dinner orders and offered sparkling wine which 2 out of the 3 of us declined so he was kind enough to offer dessert. Romie periodically came over brought leftovers at one point but also put her hands in a bag with our leftovers we had sitting there complete invasion of privacy. She decides to call the gentleman over that seated us Patrick who then comes over and asks about our experience. I explained you got your side already from your server why come to us now and he says to hear yours. Upon sharing feedback he says, "Well you got a free sparkling wine what more do you want?" A wine I never asked for that is now being thrown in my face. They offered to comp the dessert which we were ready to order with it still being my birthday celebration but they still put it on our bill. Patrick made me feel BELITTLED and I voiced that before leaving instead of rectifying the situation he made it worse. However, unlike other Peking duck I've had in Beijing and multiple restaurants in the U.S., the under skin duck fat wasn't removed in the cooking preparation requiring difficult removal with chopsticks ( no knives or forks on the table ). The Bao Buns contained a very tough meat, difficult to chew if at all. Consider going only if you choose menu items carefully. read more

The food is quite good, and the service is also very good. But three things really annoyed me tonight. First, the room is so dark that I couldn't read the menu. Exasperated, I had to use the light on my iPhone. After ordering I looked around and saw other people using their iPhone lights, too. Second, the menu descriptions are in print that is so small they would be difficult to read in adequate lighting. In my view reading a menu should be an enjoyable experience, not an aggravating one. Three, when the bill arrived it suggested tip amounts at 30%, 25% and 20% of the total bill, pure effrontery in my view. Unfortunately we gotta do this folks, again as you know, I absolutely hate giving bad reviews. But alas, here we are. On first looks, presentation of the restaurant is impressive. Beautiful decorations, high ceilings, and I was trying to think of a third positive to include here but I am falling short, much like this establishment's service. I'll get the food part out of the way quickly, food was decent. Not bad, not great, just good. But compare the quality of the food to the price, and now it becomes something close to insulting. Absolutely overpriced for what you're actually getting served. You are paying for how pretty they make their plates ONLY. Now I totally understand that from an upscale caliber restaurant but with other places that outclass this one, you would normally get a beautiful presentation that is accompanied by mouth watering umami and you just don't get that here. The biggest issue though is the staff, specifically at the bar. Again overpriced drinks but that's normal in today's economy. The issue was the bartender herself. Totally inattentive and aloof. Completely distracted and ignoring customers while she chatted it up with the drink runner for an unprofessional amount of time. This was the consistent pattern throughout the night. I would've spent a considerable amount of more money had it not taken forever to receive service to begin with from her. Once she finally decided to do her job, the overall attitude and mien was sensationally unsavory. I think this business could do exorbitant numbers if they did a cleansing of the staff. We came here for my birthday and I would have stayed longer but I didn't feel like I was accommodated and we were seated in a tight spot. The appetizers were amazing! I will for sure give them that & the ambiance is good! I would come here for happy hour or a little drink at the bar. Such a beautiful place with incredible service and food! Came here on a Saturday for an early dinner for 2 without a reservation and we were quickly seated. The inside is beautifully decorated and the staff are super attentive. We started with the half peking duck and it was incredible! The second portion of the dish is peking duck with bok choy and mushrooms which all in all was super filling. We also got the chili wonton which was delicious and has a nice kick. We then got the cod and vegetable fried rice and the cod was my absolute favorite dish. The miso glaze is perfection and pairs really nicely with the fried rice. An absolute must get! I had been looking forward to coming here since they opened. It's a BEAUTIFUL space, with decor that is a nod to 1940's Shanghai. It is elegant and the dress code says no shorts or sportswear. My husband and I came on a Friday for lunch right when they opened and it was quiet and lovely. I had the Dragon Dance cocktail which was super refreshing for the warm day (cucumber and lime), and my husband had a whiskey cocktail that was similar to an herbal tea. We both liked mine better. For his second cocktail, he ordered the Moli Moli which was the hit of all 3 cocktails. It was served in a teapot with dry ice, so it looks like it is hot/steaming when poured into the teacup, but it is a cold cocktail. It was infused with lemongrass, ginger, and coconut. So good and the presentation was gorgeous. We decided to order a bunch of dim sum and appetizers, including: - Kimchi scallop tartare (with mango, cucumber, tomato) - Shrimp truffle dumplings (steamed) - Szechuan chili wontons (our favorite) - Pork bao - Honey walnut shrimp - BBQ char siu Our server Norma was lovely and very helpful in recommending the most popular dishes/cocktails, as well as her favorites. The restaurant took over an old bank and was converted into such a beautiful place with tasty innovative takes on Chinese classics. That centerpiece chandelier is stunning. Everywhere you look there is elegance and art. The service is top notch and not overwhelming. The wine list is impressive and the cocktails are fun. This up coming Father's Day weekend will complete their first year of service so relatively new. I recommend this place. I wish I would have known about the Moli Restaurant sooner. You definitely need a reservation or you may be stuck at the bar with the rest of people without reservations. The ambiance was very relaxing with a nice vibe and great music playing in the background. The cocktails were prepared by mixologist that took their time to master it. I am not an alcoholic but I know an awesome cocktail when I taste it. We ordered several cocktails, the Moli Moli, Tang Dynasty, Magic City and another drink but I can't remember. All of the drinks were prepared to perfection and had a nice kick to it. Only advice is have a designated driver. The food menu was interesting it took us awhile to narrow it down. We started with the Honey walnut shrimp and the lobster dumplings. I had honey walnut shrimp before but this one was the best. The lobster dumplings were made with seaweed and it was delicious. For the entrees we ordered the kung pao chicken, duck fried rice, a shrimp and scallop dish and a fish dish. All of the food was well prepared and extremely tasty. All I could say is WOW!!!! The wait staff was excellent, they don't rush you while you are trying to get your order together. They also allow you to sit without putting the check on the table before you request it. I was unsure of how our experience would go, because we had a reservation and still had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. We had the tuna tartare and some sort of yellow tail dish, and both were solid. We also ordered the crispy eggplant, sweet and sour tofu, and my husband had the chicken potstickers. The eggplant was the standout. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and just unexpected. The tofu was delicious, too, albeit fairly conventional. For mains, my husband had the chicken and broccoli, and I had the bronzini. It was...perfection. The skin was crispy and savory, the broth was slightly sweet. My pants currently feel tight, so I left a lot on the plate. We also had the fried rice. It was good and as you'd expect. My dear husband surprised me for a date night at Moli shortly after they opened and what a lovely surprise. Like many others have reviewed, the vibe is 12/10. Unique, sophisticated, fusion in the best way imaginable. The decor is loud, screaming old luxury yet somehow in a rather elegant way. It's old Shanghai but not the Shanghai in my memory. It's the Shanghai in Greenwich, again in the best way possible. The night scene was really enjoyable for an intimate date night. The music turned to house at the end of our dinner which gave out a Buddakan vibe. Saw a local mom group, a girls night out, and seemingly family group and maybe a business dinner, all in perfect harmony. We ordered a few cocktails and I remember the signature one was in such a lovely presentation. It was served in a tea pot, beautiful china. Ordered the Peking duck and some other dish. 8/10. Above expectation. Food seems to be less important when you are in such a good mood and perfect company. We came back some other time. Lunch was more chilled. The only reason for 4/5 was because of an event we came on a weekend. It was hosted on the second floor, not very well organized/ managed. We walked past this elegant restaurant for months before booking a four top for a Sunday evening in June. Our reservation was honored, but the first table we were offered was really a three top, and we had a short wait before we were shown to a larger table upstairs. Suitably ensconced we ordered drinks. DG's Suntory Highball was pricey at $23, but my Moli Moli seemed generous at $18. La Portena's Riesling worked as did the feinschmeker's tequila based cocktail. Although we overheard another patron grumbling about a delay, our meal was well timed. Assorted Soup dumplings were a disappointment, we each had one, and they were not soupy enough. The dumplings in chili sauce were moist and flavorful. They could have been spicier, but it's Greenwich. Eggplant was the killer app, with a nice crunch. Honey walnut shrimp were fresh and light, not cloying. The mains all pleased. A half Peking duck was notable for the crepe wrappers, more elegant than the usual moo shu style pancakes. Seved as a two course presentation with the duck meat, vegetables, and egg to follow. Miso cod in a clay pot was unctuous and savory. Branzino, crisp and simple. The four season string beans were fresh and well seasoned, a good value. We didn't have room for dessert. Unfortunately, the tiramisu comes already plated and couldn't be served to go. Wow! This place is amazing. My dinner partner had had this on his radar for quite some time, and I was thrilled to accompany him on his maiden voyage! There's a really great visual vibe with the decor and the seating. We were at a table for two, towards the back. Minus half a star due to the loud house music blasting at the front of the restaurant. (Why do places do that? It just forces people to yell at each other! That's not fun.) Of course we had to try the Peking Duck and it did not disappoint. Very moist with wonderful accompaniments. Even the pancakes to roll the duck were delicious (we ordered an extra set of these after dinner, to pack up with our leftovers.) And let's not forget the hot shrimp appetizer. I think it stole the show! I'd go back just for that. So fresh. So tasty. And not overly sweet (like so many places do to cover up the lack of freshness.) My only criticism (besides the loud music) was the service. It was OVER-intrusive. Or should I say, the server was quite intrusive. She interrupted us several times (twice, at two different times, just to ask each of us how we liked the Peking Duck...first she interrupted to ask me, then she interrupted AGAIN to ask my partner after he started eating his meal.) Really?? She must've interrupted our conversation no fewer than 7 times during our dinner. It was almost like she was lonely and wanted to be part of our conversation. Very odd and very annoying. Little slow with service to start but very comfortable seating. Started with half duck. For the price i would have thought they would do table-side. Kinds placed in middle of table. Was moist and cooked good. Soup dumplings were fresh. Didn't blow me away Pork dumplings were really tasty and toasted nicely But the best app was walnut shrimp was so amazing omg wanted to order more of it. Crispy with walnut sauce and walnuts. My son and i shared a kung pao chicken and we loved it. Sweet but still spicy. Peanuts toasted. Yum. Chicken and broccoli was really good. Chicken was so tender. Wife had coconut braised short ribs. She loved it but was tiny We shared duck and chicken fried rice. All the rices were nice and light fluffy and not greasy.
