Solid first visit to The Wheel!…read more Portion sizes were excellent for sharing, as we tried a variety of starters, seafood, and sides. Favorite dish selections per voting of the table, were the brussel sprouts (~$20), calamari (~$20), and NY strip (~$50) specifically because of the tallow fried rice that laid underneath the steak! Although we enjoyed the quality and quantity of food, the service was quite slow. Our waitstaff didn't come by very often to take drink orders, refill water glasses, or follow up. It didn't seem too busy that evening, so we were a bit surprised. We stayed in the dining room on this trip, but hope to come back for a nice evening when the outside patio area is available.

Decided to move outside due to the high noise level even though it was hot outside. Speakers outside were also blasting music, It felt intrusive, but still quieter than inside. Repeated requests to lower the volume feel on deaf ears. Mussels were tasty. Eggplant dip akin to dog food. We were advised to move inside due to impending threat of storms. We all grabbed our drinks and expected the remainder potion of our appetizer that was left (a handful of muscle and dog food sip would be brought inside. When it didn't come I turned around and saw one of the women cleaning up the tables outside tossing out the remainder of our 1st course and clearing the plates. I said to our friends that we paid for that and they ahouldnt have assumed we were finished. Our friends did not want to make a scene and chose to let it go. Main course was decent branzino tasty, decent portion, my friends did liked the scallops and my husband enjoyed his pasta. Dessert was chocolate Carmel with gelato not bad not great. Never to return or recommend. Place May work for you if you're in your 20's, early 30's. Every place you dine at today you're probably dropping $200/couple. Time to elevate your standards and don't settle for places like The Wheel.

"Dessert made the night."…read more La Bistro delivers a solid, comfortable dining experience, even if it does not quite separate itself from the pack. I ordered the 1930's Rachel sandwich with pastrami, Swiss, sauerkraut, and thousand island on rye, served with a side of fries. The sandwich was well balanced and satisfying, with the pastrami bringing a good depth of flavor and the bread nicely toasted, though nothing about it pushed beyond what you would expect from a reliable local spot. The fries were crisp and did their job, but again, more supporting act than standout. Where the meal really turned was dessert. The Tangerine and Ube mousses were easily the highlight of the night. Both had a clean, refined presentation and a smooth texture that felt more thoughtful and elevated than the rest of the meal. The tangerine was bright and refreshing, while the ube brought a subtle richness that rounded things out nicely. It was the one moment that felt memorable. The ambiance leans warm and relaxed, making it an easy place to sit and talk without feeling rushed. Service was steady and unobtrusive, fitting the tone of the restaurant well. Overall, La Bistro is a dependable spot that gets the fundamentals right, but it is the dessert that gives you a reason to come back.

Be prepared - the menu is extensive! Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by the service. We felt rushed throughout the meal, with attempts to clear plates while our forks were halfway in our mouths. When asked if there was a time limit to dining, we were told it was a push to seat other guests (We spent about 2 hours dining/drinks). Dining out should feel relaxed, not hurried. I hope management addresses this because the food truly deserves better service to match.

We had the private dining room because we were a party of 10. Very nice menu and an excellent wine list but on the pricey side. Started with crispy Calamari with a lemon caper tartar and a crispy artichoke with lemon aioli, Friese, peppers, and pecorino cheese. Both were very good. For mains. my wife ordered the scallops with mushrooms and asparagus risotto. She truly enjoyed it. I opted for the herb crusted lamb loin since I am a rack of lamb lover. It came with farro and sautéed spinach. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Others in the group raved about the pork chop. For dessert, we tried the chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache and chocolate cookie crumble. Much denser than a regular mouse, very good. Also the brown butter creme Brule. Almost as good as my mine which I got the recipe from a family friend Paul Bocuse.

From the moment we walked in, the hospitality from the staff, and chef made us feel right at home. We started drinks with a Strawberry Cosmo and a Paloma Spritz. Both refreshing and dangerously strong in the best way possible. For apps we came for the Crispy Duck on Sushi Rice, and as someone who usually scared to eat duck, this completely changed my mind. The duck was unbelievably crispy, similar to crispy prosciutto, and paired perfectly with their special sauce. We also had to do the Crab Cake was another standout, especially with the house-made Green Goddess dressing. The chef even came out to explain how he prepares the sauce, which made the experience feel much more special. For the entrees, we ordered the Linguine Fra Diavolo, loaded with perfectly cooked shrimp and the perfect amount of spice, alongside the Steak & Chips finished with a truffle vinaigrette. Somehow, every single dish just kept getting better. And because we clearly hadn't eaten enough, we had to try the Bacon Mac & Cheese Balls with smoked tomato sauce. I honestly could've eaten an entire plate of those. To end our meal, the chef surprised us with his Duck Egg Brownie, and it was one of the softest, fudgiest brownies I've ever had. A 2 hour train ride sounds crazy... but Flinders Lane made it absolutely worth the trip. I can't wait to come back to try the kangaroo!
