If you like Asian food, you should try this place. My fiancé and I had lunch here over the weekend. This place has 4 stars just because of the service we received, food-wise everything was good except l the steak roll was ok (personal preference), and the chicken was dry. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive, checking up and making sure we had everything. It's cute inside; if you have a big group, I would recommend calling after it's not too big inside. You should definitely dine in when you eat here; it's not the same when doing takeout. Now let's get to the food. The dumplings were the best thing we ordered; they were so flavorful and juicy we could've ordered 2 more of them. As for the shrimp tempura, it was fresh and crispy no greasy feeling to it. It had a thicker layer of breading than traditional tempura, but I'm not complaining haha. Next is the sirloin steak and guacamole cut roll; if you want sushi but are not a fan of raw fish, this is a good roll to get. The steak bao was good; the flavor had a hint of spiciness from the Korean marinade; the lettuce added a good freshness and crunch to it. The crispy chicken bao was ok; it had a good light breading on it, but the chicken itself was dry. Japanese chicken curry had a great flavor to it; I recommend getting it with rice and not noodles to soak up the curry. Overall we would definitely come back to try other items from the menu. read more

(pre-pandemic) I walked past Mola and its eye catching exterior almost daily, so I finally decided to give it a shot. I didn't order a full meal (just a drink and chicken bao), but my experience was very positive! I sat at the bar which hit the chord of elegant yet casual. On top of that, the employees were extremely friendly and easy to talk to. In short, Mola would be a great place for a happy hour. I hope to be back after the pandemic to have a full meal and enjoy some drinks! read more

Mola - Taro bubble tea with tapioca pearls... delicious! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

As good as some of the better sushi to be found in other cities better known for it (NYC, SF, etc.). Mola is a pleasant place to eat, especially the bar; the service is quick and attentive; the take-out is always accurate. By Pittsburgh standards it would be considered expensive, but in the broader world of higher-end sushi (superfresh, well-cut, etc.) it's right in the middle. read more

I went here for lunch and I am not sure if I will return. My office is in East Liberty so it's always exciting when new places open for me to try them for lunch. My friend and I came here for lunch and I was happy to see they had a lunch special- I love a good deal! I got two bao and the crab salad- $9 with the lunch special. We also got the shrimp and pork dumplings (fried) to share. The bao had an interesting flavor and the crab salad was delicious. The shrimp and pork dumplings did not have that much flavor. The real issue came with the service. The menu was a little confusing and our food came out at all different times. I hate having cold food, but I also hate to eat my items if the other people in my party do not have their food yet. Not sure if I will give this another try since there are so many other great places to eat in the area. read more

Ordered take out from Mola a few times now, and I've been so happy every time! I love the variety and how fresh everything always tastes. They take care in placement and packing takeout orders so everything looks amazing as well. I love the vegetarian options available with the bao and sushi. The lotus root in the vegetarian bao is so crunchy and delicious and the vegetarian salmon is so flavorful. This is a lovely, reasonably priced restaurant if you're looking for something other than boring old pizza delivery. read more

I like the neighborhood where is located, completed renewed Eat Liberty block with new stories. The design inside is modern . It's like a bar with TV/ Japanese restaurant. I had: miso soup, it's was very delicious: not too sour and not too watery. It's well seasoned. I have had pork belly dumplings with cucumber and maki salmon with ikura which I just think it would be better to eat if cute in small pieces and everything was very delicious!!I There is type of bubble tea called Winter Melon Punch. It worth it a try if you like sweet ice tea. read more

Not vegan friendly!!! I bought a vegan ahimi avocado and cucumber roll and they placed the vegan sushi in the same container with fresh water fish eel sushi. I called to have them exchanged the sushi and was told that I should have specified in the instruction that the vegan sushi should not be paired with the fresh water fish. I am very disappointed Sushi went to waste! read more

One of the best sushi places with high quality fish. We always love eating here and during the pandemic we have continued to have great experiences with takeout. We order online and then go to pick it up and the process is really smooth. I also find their Bao (especially the pork belly and crispy chicken) and mango green tea with tapioca delicious. Definitely recommend! read more

honestly! some of the best sushi we've had and we've had a lot! we have had sushi coast to coast. It's comparable to some of the better places in San Fransisco. The rolls are a decent size for the price. The pork bao buns are worth a try!! best we've had in Pittsburgh to be honest! The crunchy tuna was my favorite and the unagi almond roll was my partners favorite. super creative combos! read more

Hands down the overall best and authentic sushi experience I have ever had in Pittsburgh. We had a reservation for a Sunday afternoon, and were seated pretty much immediately. The service was immaculate and quick, and the restaurant was bustling and lively. I would definitely say this is not a place for a casual sushi eater, I would consider myself one, and I went with someone who knew what to order and that made the experience all the better. Definitely will be visiting again to try some more of their menu!! read more

Mola is offering takeout and delivery at the moment. I got takeout for lunch today and it was great. I had a California roll, spicy tuna hand roll, and a fried chicken bao. The sushi was very fresh and good, but the fried chicken bao was AMAZING. I wish I had gotten 3 of them. I ordered thru Yelp, which was easy, and they had a nice socially distant setup for pickup. Highly recommend! read more

Enjoyed almost everything! The drink menu was great, a good balance of refreshing options that paired well with the fish nothing too heavy. Great for a casual night out. For the appetizers we got Hamachi Kama and the cold uni noodles. The grilled fish was delicious, only thing it left me with was wanting more! The fish was wonderfully flaky on the outside and a moist meat in. The lemon really enhanced the flavor. The special cold noodles were the only thing we did not enjoy. The sauce on the noodles tasted odd. It was almost an offensive taste--one we could not finish. The uni itself was buttery, creamy, smooth, and a mild ocean-y flavor. The sushi grande and some additional spicy tuna orders was filling and perfectly balanced. Although I am new to sushi world I enjoyed all of the offerings. My more experienced partner also mentioned how good the rolls were. My favorites were the spicy bluefin tuna, tuna, and the scallops. read more

My wife and I travelled to Pittsburgh from Southern New England for a business trip, fresh off the plane and hangry for something to eat- we found Mola! The atmosphere is so wonderful, comfy and chic, our server was a 10/10 and the food- GOD THE FOOD! Was absolutely delicious. My wife had the green salad with ginger, a cucumber roll, and veggie bao. I had the green salad with apple and the spicy salmon poke. As we sipped on our Mango green tea boba we people watched and enjoyed our exquisite asian cuisine. The experience in itself was top tier, but the service and dining really went over the top. Can't wait to go back- even if that means we have to travel by plane. read more

Mola gets 5 stars from me. Food quality and restaurant ambiance are more than excellent for Pittsburgh. I've always felt suspicious of seafood in non-coastal cities. Mola somehow has extremely good quality of fish and the premium prices (for Pittsburgh) reflects that. Will definitely come here again next time. read more

I'll start with some positives - clean space, bright and comfortable atmosphere, and a great variety of food and drinks. When we sat down, we waited a while for someone to take our drink order, which they messed up (not a huge deal). Our waiter wasn't very helpful when we had questions on the menu/asked his opinion, and was very awkward the entire time. Maybe he was new and nervous. Our check was also wrong (they advertised $3 bubble teas for the lunch special but charged full price for them). Overall, the sushi was pretty good (not the best I've had), miso soup and dumplings were average, and I was a little let down by the bao (but that isn't my favorite so I may not be the best judge here). It was fun to try, but I wouldn't go again. read more

I ventured to Mola during the month of March to try out the Taste 30 Menu. We initially had reservations for 7, then around lunch time - it went down to 5. I let them know. I was the first to arrive in our party - and they had the table set for 7. I felt TERRIBLE. I had explained I called at lunch time and maybe it wasn't communicated. They were SO gracious about our smaller party. I was so appreciative. They were so very nice and gracious about switching our seating around. Now - to the important stuff - food. A few of us did the Taste 30 menu and a couple of us didn't. Every single one of us - LOVED our food. I got the 4 course taste 30 - but also got a scottish salmon hand roll. Every single morsel of food was phenomenal. My favorite was the 3rd course - a miso salmon bowl with rice and asparagus. Best.Salmon.I've.ever.eaten. I want to go back and get many many bowls of salmon. The hand roll is one of the best salmon rolls I have ever had. I have recommended Mola to so many people in the few days since we ate there. I can't wait to go back and eat off their regular menu. If you haven't been - definitely give it a shot. read more

I'm somewhat new to the neighborhood and SO thankful to have a sushi place like Mola nearby. They're available on popular delivery apps, but if you want to support them I suggest ordering through their website instead (more of the money goes to them). For starters, I absolutely love their spicy edamame. I've tried the crispy chicken, steak, and pork belly baos - all were delicious. Finally, their fish has been fresh and enjoyable in every dish I've tried. My go to is a spicy tuna roll and theirs does not disappoint (try the crispy version for some added texture). read more

Best sushi in town. Chutoro, Ootoro, and Kamatoro are best. Uni and Hotate are also great. Very good service.

Food was fine, ambiance was minimal. Wasn't really impressed but I did love their vegetable salad, they had different mushrooms in it, lotus and tofu skins. Yum!!! Would definitely get that again. read more

THE BEST JAPANESE BISTRO IN PGH One of the few restaurants that kept their dishes delicious and fresh even doing COVID-19. Honestly they have my respect for treating their food and customers with the highest sincerity. Their udon noodle soup is the PURE comfort, and their shrimp tempura is surprisingly airy even it's fried without oil. All of their appetizers, rolls, sashimi, sushi are AMAZING. Order from them when you don't know what to eat - I hope I can visit for dine-in soon! read more

You wouldn't think of Pittsburgh for incredible sushi, but Mola is some of the best fish I've ever had. No need for fancy rolls here because the fish is melt in your mouth delicious. Did delivery for convenience, but food came way before they had stated-about 20 mins before which is rare. The food was still hot and sooo delicious. So fresh! Love the seafood & vegetarian hand rolls! We go frequently like once a week. Friendly staff answers all questions kindly.

I have had some good experiences here but the food is so inconsistent and pricey that I don't feel compelled to go back or order again. In the past I've enjoyed the chirashi, but other times I've ordered simple rolls that just didn't taste very good. Definitely skip anything with tempura in it - it is air fried, which itself is fine, but not done well. My recommendation would be to check out other sushi bars in the city that are consistently good. read more

Came here for dinner recently on a Friday night and it was not too crowded. Parking is hit or miss on Penn avenue, but there is a garage right near Choolah that is not too far. My friend and I shared a variety of dishes. We had the dumplings, mola style vegetables, seaweed salad, spicy edamame, yellowtail jalepeno & blue fin tuna rolls, and some bao. The dumplings were delicious and super flavorful. The spicy edamame was also a hit--a nice bit of spice to flavor up the edamame. The sushi was good as well. I loved the fried chicken bao! Overall, a nice menu with a variety of dishes. Would definitely come back! read more

Solid two for two here. I think it's the best sushi in the city. Small but thoughtfully designed space. Good value for the food you get. It's not cheap but it's not overpriced for what you get. All sushi is tremendous. The staff knows their stuff and they are friendly and attentive. Worth putting yourself in their hands and listening to their guidance. Pretty decent beverage program too. I did not know this place existed until a friend suggested it for last-minute dinner! We had no trouble getting a table for 5 people at 6:30pm on a Thursday. Their tables aren't really suited for groups larger than 4-5 people. I think there is a bit of a mismatch between how deceptively casual the ambience is and how expensive the food is. I had the Spicy Salmon Poke bowl and it was quite good. I do like that they have have a vegan/vegetarian Poke Bowl and Bao, though I didn't try either this time All of our servers were very friendly and helpful! read more

Mouth watering good!! We went during lent, so we tried the veggie bao buns, veggie dumplings, and sushi rolls. I loved everything. Everything had so much flavor. Id love to go back and try different flavors of everything. It's a small restaurant so seating is limited. We didn't have a reservation, so we had to sit at the bar which wasn't a problem.
