Grew up around Memphis and Mississippi and have had Texas , Carolina and Missouri BBQ and Alabama doesn't get it , don't get me wrong there were some good things at Moe's , loved the cornbread, beans but the ribs were just ok , the Mac and cheese was overcooked the sauce was not great , the beans were good and the service was excellent but Alabama is just not a barbecue state so it seems they miss the mark . Wow - a very disappointing meal. I won't be back even though I have enjoyed Moe's for at least 15 years. Why? First the "BBQ Sauce" was at least 20% yellow mustard. It was hands down inedible. The ribs. They were cooked but only medium rare and not my fave temp for any pork. They were also the the long fatty ribs and not the well-seasoned charred variety. Bland bland bland. AND my full rack had 6 ribs. Sorry that I know this fact but it should Have been 10-13 ribs. The Mac-cheese was about what was expected. The cornbread as great, but imo any bread should be stoppable )in decent sauce and this was nasty). The beans were pretty damn good - I would order them again. BUT since I do not do to any restaurant for a cup of beans Moe's is now a huge pass for me. I am so sorry - not for my poor meal but for how you have put yourself into a fast-food experience. The food was delicious and the service was great. I had the pulled pork and ribs combo and the serving size was good and I finished wanting more . My sides were baked beans and banana pudding. My wife said she didn't any banana chunks in her pudding but I ate mine so fast I'm not sure about mine haha. The corn bread was hardy and delicious and I think the best I ever had. For my first time in Alabama, I wanted to try some classic Alabama white sauce BBQ and turns out I'm a big fan. I think I prefer white sauce BBQ to traditional BBQ. They need a second bar tender (I mentioned this in my last review). Food was great as always. The band was sub-par compared to some of the bands I have heard there. Honestly, wasn't that good. Came in at about 8PM and were completely out of Pulled Pork. Not sure how that happens. I understand with brisket, etc but pulled pork is about the easiest and cheapest of the barbecue meats to make so not having it available with at least an hour left of service is surprising. Despite that, here's the rest: #1: Rib plate, coleslaw, potato salad: Ribs were overall dry and attempted to make up for it by slathering in sauce at time of service (i.e. not cooked into the ribs during the cook). Didn't even finish them and I love me some ribs. Coleslaw and potato salad were fine, nothing exciting, nothing terrible. #2: Rib plate, cornbread, pudding: kid didn't finish the ribs either. Cornbread had good flavor but was dry. Kid loved the pudding. Ambience: fairly typical BBQ place. Mishmash of chairs/tables. Overall was as expected. Service: they legit rang our buzzer, put our food on the counter, and bailed. Like seriously there was nobody at the window to hand us our food, confirm that it was actually ours, or to assist with any questions. I stood there for about 3-4 minutes and there was nobody to be found. Was kinda comical. The people we did interact with (cashier) were friendly and helpful. Won't be back. read more

Been here a bunch of times. Food is good to great most of the time. Process is terrible- hard to order- single dink machine pack into spot where everyone is trying to pick up their food when their orders are ready. This review was provoked by our most recent visit... Table of 6 including our grandkids who are very young. At the 30 minute mark from the time on our receipt I went in and asked about our order... "They are working on it now".... 15 more before the food comes out. Kids and adults have all by now lost interest and are all annoyed by the wait. "We had a lot of To-Go orders" is no excuse to sideline or sidestep your dine in customers- come on! Our time is worth more than your food and if people have to wait they just won't. This review is for the recently opened location. The new building is impressive and beautiful but the food was an absolute disaster. I ordered a drink from the bar (Margarita) and it was flavorless and the drink was 75% ice. I'm not kidding, I've never had a drink so full of ice. I wasn't too worried about the drink because I was so excited for the bbq. That was even more terrible. The coleslaw seemed like it was straight vinegar with a side of cabbage. The Mac and cheese had practically no cheese and seemed more to be like buttered noodles. The ice machine was out of ice (for fountain drinks) and the bbq sauce, that should've been warmed up sat in lukewarm water. Normally I give feedback to managers and those that ask but nobody ever came by to ask how our meal was. Overall the quality (or lack thereof) of the food does not compensate for the pretty location. Maybe they are working out some kinks with the food but in the meantime I would not be back (May 2025). read more

Super unique building and extremely yummy food. I would have given Moe's a 5 star if I had waitstaff, instead of ordering at a window and delivering my own food. The service is exceptionally nice. They have a great patio which is dog friendly. You go to the bar for food orders and great craft beers. The fried chicken special was perfectly cooked. It wasn't greasy and had a nice texture. The bbq plate was tender and flavorful. The beans were a bit sweet but good in texture. The Mac and cheese was really awful. I LOVE their Moe's Nachos, but I sometimes request certain toppings get left off. It's a plastic plate layered with chips, baked beans, onion, nacho cheese, etc.-- what you would imagine for BBQ style nachos. I mean, it's a huge portion, and it's only $9 or so. Paired with your favorite beer, it's a wonderful combination that makes you feel right at home in the South. Their BBQ, especially the pulled pork as my favorite, is always on point. It's so tasty. This is one of the few places I enjoy coming to for food and anticipate eating until I feel sick. I also love the nod to college football with decor. This particular location also has an outdoor seating area, and I've been here to enjoy live music with my food+beer, which was nice. I found a little hole in the wall just outside of Mobile being that I like barbecue I decided to give it a shot. Overall the meal was OK.I got the pork and sausage as usual. The pork was good and had a good smoke flavor. The sausage was a run of the mill sausage. They said it was a local sausage but tasted just like all the others out there. The potato salad was seasoned well and the Mac and cheese had a decent amount of cheese. The corn bread was not great and I think it's because they fry it in a pan or flat top. The sauce was ok could have been sweeter but the spice was ok. All and all wasn't bad for a lunch. read more

COVID-19 Review On our cross-country road trip for Christmas, we drove through Mobile, Alabama on December 22nd. This was a really long day for us and we were supposed to have dinner at Moe's but had a bunch of delays and didn't get here until about 30 minutes before closing. We had just come from Biloxi where we ate Mississippi mud pie and heard that when in Alabama, chicken with white sauce is the item to try and so we decided to give it a shot even though none of us were particularly hungry. Think heavy lunch AND beignets in New Orleans. Siri kept taking us in circles so it took us a bit to find the place, but we eventually abandoned Siri and figured out ourselves how to get to this location. As I said, we were 30 minutes from closing time and in Los Angeles, you get evil glares from restaurant folks wondering why on earth you'd dare enter the premises. NOT SO with Moe's in Alabama. I've always heard about Southern hospitality and I truly received it walking into Moe's. The gal at the register and the two other guys who joined in on our conversation were seriously the nicest people I think I've ever encountered in the service industry. They were so warm and excited to serve us regardless of the time and truly made my first experience in Alabama probably the most memorable of the whole trip three week trip! They helped us figure out what to order so we went with the smoked half chicken, house fried chips, corn bread and banana puddin'. The chicken was out of this world amazing and I truly understand the white sauce craze. I've never seen it in California and have now looked in grocery stores for it, but it is so good! The chicken was so buttery and melty and tender. It was truly amazing. Even though I wasn't all that hungry going into the meal, I had no problem eating my share of this and then lamented I didn't come in earlier and have a full meal! Should you go to Moe's? We have been looking for good BBQ in our area with much dismay we haven't found it until we found this hidden Moe's. We had tried the location in Huntsville and really hated it, but love this location. All the meats we have had so far are excellent. The sides from the slaw, beans, potato salad and the Oreo pudding have been awesome. The setup is at an old house that has been converted to a bbq place when makes it unique. This will be our bbq go to for now on in the Fairhope/Daphne area. Haven't found anything this good in Fairhope for sure. read more

Family friendly, fun atmosphere and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food was really good! I had the pulled pork platter with collard greens and creamed corn. My daughter had chicken tender platter, which tasted awesome! They were moist and crispy. She also had the Oreo puddin which was wonderful! My husband had the catfish platter with grits, coleslaw and hush puppies. We were thoroughly pleased and had fun! There was also a band setting up for the evening. Unfortunately BBQ has been done the death. It seems like there's a BBQ Joint on every corner promising delicious one million hour smoked whatever. Then failing to deliver. Not so at Moe's. I can't be sure they smoked their meats for one million hours, but whatever they did it works. I played it safe and had the pulled pork, Mac & cheese, and baked beans. Everything was super tasty. Moe's Original Bar-B-Que was our first choice for dinner while traveling thur the area, unfortunately our first choice was the restaurant located at 701 Spring Hill Ave, Mobile, AL and after finding it impossible to find a parking spot within a reasonable walking distance and after circling the block a few times we decided to move on to their second location that was still in front of us east bound. So we made the short jog off I-10 and after only a few minutes we found the parking lot off a side street behind a strip mall in a small wooded area that was somewhat dark but turned out to be fine. After walking thru the patio area and passing the bar which is connected to the restaurant but separate, we opened the door to find a nice clean restaurant that is broken into multiple small rooms. The counter at the entrance to the restaurant is for ordering and the next room over has the counter to pickup your order, so it's self serve, you know the drill get your cup when placing your order and wait for your number to be called to pick up your food. The process is painless and well worth the minimum effort. After about 10 minutes we had two beautifully assembled plates of food in front of us. The staff here is really friendly and polite and can answer any questions you have and pretty much put together any combination you like so I rate the customer service as excellent. The side dishes are all homemade and all the ones we chose we outstanding. Pork Ribs - ordered without the sauce were fall off the bone tender and were the St. Louis cut which I prefer if they're done right which these were. They had a light dry rub with a smokey flavor that only comes from cooking using real wood, very meaty and delicious. Smoked Turkey - very moist, sliced to the perfect thickness, light smokey flavor with a very good peppery rub on the edges I absolutely thought this choice was amazing. Dry Rubbed Wings - the picture says it all perfectly grilled (this is a true BBQ joint so no breading thankfully) the dry rub has a hint of sweetness that is almost magical when combined with the flavor of the smokey wood grill, these were some of the best wings I've experience in quite sometime. Sides - like I stated before "all homemade" and all the ones we tried were incredible - Mac and Cheese was maybe the best I've ever eaten in any restaurant. - Turnip Greens - chopped, seasoned and cooked very tender add some of the bottled peppered vinegar and it's heavenly. - Broccoli Salad - a combination of chopped broccoli, smokey bacon, raisins, pecan, red onions all folded together with a light sweet dressing yum! - Squash Casserole - I guess this is consider one of those house specialties as it should be but could have been a little warmer. - Cornbread - not your typical cornbread it was a little dense but moist and super flavorful with corn and jalapeño and yes toasted a must try. BBQ Sauce - there is one sauce and it's a pretty solid recipe just a hint of sweetness, peppery, considered mild I'd say but finishes with a slight spiciness it's really complex, interesting and very tasty. This is southern Alabama so you'll find lots of good BBQ of many varieties but sometime you find "the real thing" Moe's is place you will want to try... read more
