The shop is filled with flowers. I mean, so full you can barely walk through it. The owner needs to work on his social skills, but is very nice when you get through the rough exterior. Basically, if you come in for a few flowers you're probably not worth his time lol. The owner was very informative once we had the flowers picked out. He gave us some floral care tips before we left and let us know about how long each of the flowers lasted. He doesn't really give you much info on the flowers until you have them picked out. Good if you're not into pushy salesmen but bad if you don't know anything about flowers. He has a LOT of different options though, more than most florists in the area so if you're having trouble finding something and need it the same day, this guy probably has it. At the end of the day, I left with a beautiful arrangement of about 10 exotic looking flowers and filler, and only spent about $15. read more

Moe's Flowers is great! I called Moe last Saturday because I needed some last minute flowers for my girl-friends Danceworx show. Moe stayed at his shop an hour and half after his typical closing time so that I could sneak to his shop after I dropped off my girlfriend at the showcase location! Also, his ability to match together beautiful bouquets from "scratch" makes this business even better. I love this flower shop! Truthfully I have no idea about how to pick flowers and Moe was so much help! When I walked in, he asked what I needed help with and he did everything from there. He asked for the occasion, my budget, and if I wanted it colorful or not. As soon as I gave him the information he went right to work! We had a little chat while he was picking out the flowers and he was really friendly! He finished a beautiful bouquet in a couple of minutes and gave me a free vase to put it in. Moe is by far the best florist I've ever encountered. I don't have enough time to describe how great he truly is. Whenever I am feeling bad I head over to his shop to chat and surround myself with his flowers. I always buy flowers from him and he always has a nice selection of plants, flowers and succulents that are constantly changing. He sells beautiful orchids that are in great condition (unlike the supermarkets or other shops I've been to). He is always open to giving me suggestions about how I should care for my plants at home. He's been in the business for so long I doubt you can find anyone with more connections than him. He was kind enough to do my weeding flowers even though I only gave him about 2 weeks notice and had another wedding the same weekend. Not only that, he was able to find every single type of flower I wanted (and I was pretty specific): delphiniums, peach roses, freesia, silver dollar eucalyptus, etc. And to top it off charged me a very reasonable amount of money. We love Moe! My husband and I found ourselves with three months to plan our wedding for well over a hundred people, with a graduate student and high school teacher budget. Moe was incredible when we came to ask about flowers - the quotes I had gotten for flowers had been making me question having any - he worked through what we wanted for the wedding, our shoestring budget, and he made it work. More than making it work, he made it perfect! The centerpieces matched with our summer party plan - brilliantly colorful and fragrant - and the bouquets, boutonnières and corsages were lovely - huge orange rose bouquets that made my dressing room smell like heaven and matched our colors perfectly. Moe himself was exactly what I wanted from a florist. He had everything handled promptly, simply and with no need to bother us. As he said: 'it's your wedding day, you should be having fun and not even thinking about flowers'. I went to Moe's on a wednesday night right before 7pm, and I felt lucky to get there just before he was closing up. I needed sunflowers for my girl (since I had messed up) and Moe was Happy to help. There was a misunderstanding about how many flowers I wanted, Moe thought I wanted X pairs, but I wanted X individual, so in the lateness, the conversation, and sort of rush for both of us to go home, I ended up overpaying a bit. Of course I caught this on the drive home as I'm thinking about it. And I debated for a long while until the next morning if I should bring it up. Since I work in retail myself, I have to deal with customers catching errors. I decided to do it. I greeted Moe, asked him if he remembered me from last night. I told him the flowers were beautiful and my fiance loved them but I thought I over payed a bit. I explained the math, and we laughed about the miscommunication. He apologized and I asked him if I could get either the difference back or if he could make me a bouquet for Christmas eve dinner tomorrow. We laughed some more and chatted while he warm heartedly began to create a large, beautiful bouquet of the biggest, and healthiest blossoms I have ever seen. I feel confident i got more than the diference back in the bouquet. I told him I worked near by and that I would definitely be referring everyone to his flowers. This is a review about an experience my wife and I had at this flower shop two weeks ago. We were passing by and we both spotted a cute cactus plant that we wanted to buy. We spoke to the person arranging some flowers and he was nice enough, advising us on how to care for it etc.. Then we walked in and spoke to the owner, who took our money and made some crude jokes. We brushed it off, but as we were walking out of his establishment, the owner proceeded to harass me by insinuating that I give the worker my phone number. When I said that my wife was standing RIGHT THERE INFRONT OF HIM he laughed and said "so what?" and other unintelligible homophobic remarks. My wife proceeded to throw the cactus at him. That is how horrible my experience was with Moe. My brother and I walked into Moe's flowers to look at his orchids. Before we even stepped in the door he glared at us and said "Do not touch a thing." He continued to watch my brother's every move and then came over by me and moved the things I was standing by (I was not super close to anything). Within 60 seconds, he told us to get out of his store. I was shocked. We had done nothing other than look at the orchids. I asked politely what we did to trigger such a reaction, and he yelled at me "Get out of my F#@*ing store! You get out of my F#%*ing store!" I'm wondering what selection process he uses for deciding what customers he will treat well, and which ones he will verbally assault. I am a quiet, polite, pleasant person, and have NEVER been so disrespected by a store owner/employee in my life. Except the last time (7 years ago) when I simply walked past Moe's flowers. This is probably the best customer service experience I've ever had. Moe is so kind and really cares about his flowers and customers. He helped me find the perfect succulents, repotted them for me for no extra charge, and even for just a few dollars sale, he took his time and was careful in making sure they were potted with care. I'm really shocked how affordable everything was here considering how overpriced most things are in Berkeley. Succulents and pots were only a few dollars each! And in such a small shop, there's a decent variety of succulents here as well as flowers. You can also order special flowers from him that he doesn't currently have in stock. I've gone to his store twice: during the first visit I was impressed with his prices; however, the second visit ruined it for me. When my friend and I entered the store, he immediately gave us a dirty look. I picked out a bouquet and unlike the first time he was abrupt and angry (the first time he threw in a little card and a few extra flowers, but he didn't do it this time). It couldn' t have been just a bad day for him, since he extended nicer words to the other customers. We came back because my friend wanted flowers for her mother--as soon as we entered he said "oh, YOU guys are back again?". She already had flowers, but wanted a few nicer flowers as the centerpiece for her arrangement. When she pulled out her wallet to make the purchase, he yelled at her "NO, I DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS, GET OUT OF MY STORE". It was a random and unexplained attack which left her crying. For that I can't ever come back to his store or think of him in the same way. When I later came down to question why he attacked my friend, he gave a bullshit excuse (that "this is NOT a self-service place" when all of the people in front of us had picked their own flowers??) and said "You are a SLUG, I never want you in my store again!". I was, to say the least, appalled. His prices are cheap but his attitude isn't worth it--one day he'll throw in a nice flower or two and a card, the next day he'll call you a slug and kick you out for literally no reason (I think the reason, if any, was that she already had flowers but wanted some more to complete her bouquet--the flowers, I should mention, came from her small garden). read more

Interesting experience here. When I walked in, he was shouting at someone on the phone about a phone order. I asked about bouquets (custom and prepared) and he got a bit snappy. As the conversation went on, I tried to make small talk about Valentine's Day coming up and he went off on me about something about the growers and being stuck with the flowers and that he marginally raises prices for single stems ($4 today, $5 tomorrow) and how he doesn't have extra money to cover the cost so he must SELL SELL SELL. Well, I hate to break it to you, but you won't with that type of customer service. I should have walked out. Awful customer service. I went in Moe's Flowers searching for a specific type of rose and Moe had complete control over the whole conversation and BARELY never listened to my special requests. You will notice that he'll tell you want he want's and what he like's and feels and not really listed to what you want. He's all "about business" he said. I've dropped by this flower shop for the past 4 years of my undergraduate career because of its convenient location. The owner had usually been pretty friendly the previous times I'd been here, but I realized today it's just all an act. I've concluded that he's only nice when he's in need of customers. Today he was pretty rude and unreasonable. My brother had reserved 2 leis (one purple and one blue/gold) for my graduation yesterday and had already payed in advance. When we came to pick them up we found that he had run out of the type we reserved and simply offered something else with my brother's name on it. This sounds petty, but honestly, the point of a reservation and paying in advance is simply to... RESERVE what you payed for. If indeed he didn't have any in stock, then he should have said so. All he gave us was an attitude as if it was our fault that he was being shady. "I don't have what I don't have, and you don't get your money back" is all that he said... Just cause you have a large influx of customers during graduation season doesn't mean you should completely disregard manners and your customers. Yea, the flowers are alright, but the man is just ..completely unprofessional. (I've seen how he treats other customers as well and my friends have told me similar stories of how he is completely inconsiderate towards his customers. ) I guess it doesn't matter when he has good business and can do without treating people with decency. read more

He has been on Berkeley campus for many years, and what he cares about more than his flowers is the relationships he builds with the individual students. Recently, my husband and I visited Moe to order a bouquet from him for our wedding. My husband and I met in Berkeley 11 years ago and have been buying flowers from Moe since. Even though we didn't want to splurge on flowers for our small reception, we wanted to have a bouquet made by Moe because he holds a special place in our hearts. Now, it has been my husband who's been picking up flowers all these years; I haven't personally seen Moe in quite a while, so I didn't expect him to remember me. To my surprise, he remembered what industry I worked in, where we moved to, and other details you would never expect your local florist to remember about you. Moe is a sentimental man and built us beautiful bouquets, practically for free. By the look of the reviews, people who have a problem with Moe either 1. does not like his style, or 2. has the shop owner misunderstood. Be warned here that he is a straight shooter; he may not carry every flower known to mankind, especially in the summer when the campus is abandoned, and it will cost you if you need certain flowers to be specially ordered. Some reviewers have accused him of being cheap, which I disagree with 100%. As he's once said to me, "money is not everything," and this is shown through his work. On more than one occasion, he had thrown in flowers that were outside my budget because it would enhance the arrangement and my experience of giving the flowers to my friends. In the 11 years of doing business with him, he has been direct and would say it like it is, but has never mean-spirited. I had one of my worst experiences trying to buy flowers in this shop. I am an Indian graduate student at uc berkeley and went to this shop with my mother (who was visiting ). We entered the shop and were looking at different options. In the middle of our conversation the gentleman at the counter (who was on the phone) asked us to stop talking. I was surprised at his reaction since we were fairly quiet. We decided to step out of the shop. The person inside followed us outside and started shouting at us. I was not sure about what was going on. He was angry that we had not bought any flowers. He also complained about us trying to divert his attention from his customer on phone. I was indignant at such a behavior. I told him that we were outside and he was misbehaving. He then threatened to call cops and report us as trespassers. The situation was just outragious. We decided to step away. I have lived in usa for 7 years and never experienced racism. But of all places it happened close to uc berkeley - ironic I guess. I am pretty experienced with buying flowers; I like to buy them for my friends, family, etc. I have been hearing about Moe's so I decided to give it a try. I walk in and there is an ok selection of flowers. Not that much to choose from but a decent amount of everyone's favorites. At first, Moe approaches you as a very helpful and friendly florist. He asks what you want and what kind of colors and wrapping blah blah blah. However, once we get to talking about prices, he is extremely annoying and can't give a good deal. Granted, this is cheaper than Safeway, but I am willing to pay a little extra for something at Safeway if I don't have to get yelled it! Interesting incident: He told me a dozen roses were a certain price and a great deal for me. After I came back to him 3 hours later, he completely forgot my face and upped his price for the same dozen of roses. OK.......... In conclusion, yeah, its pretty ok price for flowers because flowers are pricey. I do not know how this shop has high reviews at all. Moe is rude and extremely unprofessional. My experience: I went in today to buy a few flowers for a friend's birthday. I greeted Moe and told him I wanted something small. He tried to sell me large, overpriced bouquets first. Eventually he showed me to the daisies which were $2 each and the daffodils that were $4 for a bunch. Then he walked behind the counter and said nothing else. I don't know if I'm the only one who needs to see colors together but I wanted to make sure that the flowers I bought looked nice. So I gently picked up some of the daisies and held them together. I felt like the daffodils might be better so I put the daisies back and looked at the daffodils. Not too long into this process Moe came over and started harassing me about touching the flowers. Things like, "See you come in here and not want to spend a lot and the problem is that you're never happy with them and then you rough up my flowers and make them unsellable." He said quite a bit more after this but the jist of his comments were "you're ruining my business." At the end of the conversation, he literally said, "I'm not going to sell you anything." I had not damaged the flowers in any way nor had I ever expressed any dissatisfaction. Not until he started spouting assumptions and accusations at me. My company has bought dozens of bouquets from him in the past and, as I discovered today, he has insulted some of my coworkers before he knew who they worked for too. He is clearly only interested in high-paying customers and has no respect for those he does not deem "worthy." Thus, I strongly encourage anyone shopping for flowers to NOT go to Moe's. I like buying flowers for anyone at random occasions - it can be and specific celebration or just a boring monday and want to make someone happy! I live next door to Moe and usually buy flowers there because my gf likes him and his flowers. But Yesterday he lost a customer - I arrive in the store without knowing what to get, just feeling in the mood to buy something small for gf, oO(maybe a rose, a plant or a small bouquet), I was looking around the store. Moe was servicing a customer while trash talking nearby floweriest about their poor quality etc... My choice was a poinsettia (christmas plant) - it was small, cute and simply and would create the christmas spirit I needed... I asked for price for this plant, and then he lost his temper! He became very rude, start yelling about how students are bad for business, he hate the students because they are cheap and he had it with us. It was very uncomfortable, the other customer, she even stepped in saying that it was uncalled for, but he didn't care- he already started. I absolutely love coming to Moe's; I'm sad I'll never get to buy another bouquet from him since I've already graduated. He always has the freshest selection of flowers to choose from and never fails to create for you that special bouquet for your special someone for any given occasion (yeeep, he can get you a bouquet that says, sexy time tonight? =P). From experience, the best bouquets are created when you give him the framework to work within and leave everything else up to him. This is typically how it goes: You 1) state your budget, 2) choose any particular flowers you want in your bouquet (you don't have to choose ALL of em, just a couple that you want in it), and finally 3) describe the occasion for which the bouquet is for. Moe will work his magic and do the best to get you your perfect bouquet. I agree with some people when they claim that Moe has at time extreme mood swings. I've seen his ups and downs (although not directed at me), but I believe all this stem from Moe's strong pride in his flowers. The majority of reviewers give Moe a great rating for his customer service etc. I can see why- he is capable of treating people very well when he chooses. BUT, if he senses you are a UC student and are unlikely to spend a premium sum, he treats you like garbage. I went in to look for some flowers to draw for an art project and when he heard that I was looking for only a few he began complaining to another customer about how I was wasting his time and space and how he's sick of students coming in to only buy a few flowers. I had been totally friendly and in no way rude- I didn't ask for a discount or free flowers! I immediately chose to take my business elsewhere- why should I buy flowers from someone who is complaining about me to my face? And as I was walking out, he yelled that I had wasted his time by coming and not buying anything. My friend replied that his customer service didn't help and he actually began shouting at us! He went so far as to shout that he wishes (we students) would graduate tomorrow so he would never have to see us again and that we "break his flowers and leave"- I did not damage anything in his shop at all. The whole experience was shocking and completely surreal as it was totally unprovoked.
