Tasty bar with good brews. The first waiter who originally took our order really didn't offer any suggestions or help us with our beer selections. What we ordered, we liked. I had a cantillon sour which was excellent. The next guy who took our order faces us suggestions and was very helpful. I asked for certain types and the staff was able to make great recommendations based off my descriptions of what I wanted to taste. Also better prices than the other beer houses near the gram place. This was a really cool spot to enjoy some beers away from all the tourists, or at least it seems less touristy. They have a very extensive beer list although there were less Lambics than we thought there would be given the name. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly and helped steer us in the right direction. The only off thing was that I had one beer I really didn't like at all and did not drink, but it was kept on the bill. It ended up being taken off but the server was super weird about it. We came here twice while in Brussels. They have an excellent selection of beers including a few Cantillon beers on cask! The ambiance and service were good. They have one full dinner dish and when we came was a stew. It was amazing both times we came. My wife got the quiche the first time we came and it was great too. One of the best beer selections I have ever seen. Nice spacious bar with outdoor seating. Could easily spend a few hours here with good company just enjoying the different offerings. Discovered my favorite beer in the history of the Earth (Cantallion Lambic). Probably the best beer bar in downtown Bruxelles. Great selection of beers, with an extensive offering of draft cantillon along with vintage lambic bottles. They don't have crazy super rare stuff, but they have some very nice, more available, vintages. We came here twice, including one of them for Zwanze Day 2016. Very friendly and attentive waitstaff, even when they are completely slammed with patrons. In addition, the food offerings, while sparse, are tasty. We've had the classic and veggie quiche, and were pleasntly surprised by the tastiness. Also ordered the pate, which was huge. Equally delicious. As a local, I can guarantee that this is really the place to go if you want to discover what Belgian craft beers are really about. 40+ top quality beers on tap, what more do you need? The service is efficient and looking forward to provide you with their advice on what to drink next. Only downside: for the quantity of beer you receive (should be 25 cl but it is more 20 cl per glass generally speaking) it is somewhat too expensive. This is one of *the* beer bars in Brussels. Unlike some of the other area bars that are more old-timey and rustic, this one is modern, the type of place one could expect to find in any large city. At least, in terms of decor. Selection is another story - probably the main reason why this place is revered. Most places don't have the kind of selection this one has, especially with regard to the lambic style, which happens to be one of my favorites. Very few places in the world are able to have this kind of selection of Cantillon lambics. I didn't partake, though, as they were on the pricey side...and besides, Cantillon itself is just down the street a ways, and I'd just been there several hours earlier. Having quenched my sour cravings and in the mood for some hops, I went with the De Ranke XX Bitter on draft. This is an excellent beer we *get* in the US, but isn't always fresh when seen on liquor store shelves - which is what a "Belgian IPA" like that really needs to be at its best. The hop attack along with typical Belgian yeast character was exactly what I was looking for at that point in the day. Besides high-ish prices, there was one other thing that annoyed me about this place - we went in late afternoon to find more than half the tables with "Reserved" signs on them. What is this, a bottle-service nightclub? The place wasn't terribly full, but when most of the tables have been set aside for some unknown reason, there weren't too many places to sit. I don't know why we couldn't sit at one of those tables, as no one else showed up when we were there. I've never heard of having tables "reserved" at a beer bar. Still, for the true beer snob, this is certainly worth a stop. read more

So on our trip to Belgium, you've probably had at least a dozen friends tell you "you have to go to Delirium!". Funny thing was that the first things I heard from a local that I stayed with was "don't go to delierium" and "every person that says they want to go to delirium heard it from another american". After that advice, he told me to come to Moeder Lambic. Here's the gist of the place. It's got a giant amount of beers (good luck trying more than a hair of them), it's cheaper than delirium, and it's also less busy (you aren't surrounded by a million other tourists). Beers in belgium are the best in the world. I know... fighting words, but I'll be the first to admit that the best beers I've ever had are from Belgium. It's difficult to add anything to what has already been said through the many great reviews of Moeder Lambic, this place is simply awesome. Not only a great selection of Belgian and european beers, they serve quality beers from the around the region. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoors, there are several tables that would make a relaxing area to have a beer on a cool evening. Indoor there are several booths and a long bar, with some of the heaviest bar stools I have ever lifted. This place can get packed on Friday and Saturday nights, but I was able to find a nice booth without waiting on Sunday evening. Super cool bar, definitely for the beer lover! Decor in and out is pretty cool and reminds me of how an American bar (or restaurant) would be set up--namely, there is a lot of space! Booths line the walls and surprisingly there are no tables set up in the aisle (I would expect them to make best use of the space they have by adding tables there but am happy they didn't). They achieve the simplistic and clean look/feel in this bar. Moeder Lambic serves a very wide variety of beers from all over (Belgium, France, US, Germany....) regularly with "guest beers" listed on a board as well. Ask for recommendations as the servers are happy to give it to you! Also, if hungry (or even if not) order the cheese plate. This is delicious! Nice beer list, and the waiter was very helpful, even correctly suggesting that the Italian beer tasted "just like wine" ... it totally did! We also experienced a classic Brussels moment while enjoying our 2nd or 3rd round... the waiter, with all the professionalism in the world, delivered an entire, uncooked butternut squash to a customer on the patio with no explanation and no indication that he thought this was odd. What I really like about Moeder Lambic is that it manages to keep an authentic local atmosphere, with a n international clientele in the very centre of Brussels and with both good service and good quality drinks and food. This combination is lethal and I am happy to recommend it. When people visit me and they are chilled out I always take them here but also I like to go on a cosy summer evening for a good beer. I appreciate that you can be picky with beer " Would you like a solid thick beer, something more like a lager or a fruity option?" Around 300 kind of beers, mostly Belgian but not only, out of them 40 draft beers and a few beers of the month, plus a very nice selection of local sausages and cheeses... all those goodies wait for you in a simple but warm atmosphere with tree-trunk tables as a reminder of the original Moeder Lambic in Saint Gilles. On Saturday night our waiter was not a local (he was French) but he knows his subject. We tasted six kind of draft beers and enjoyed each sip of it, since his recommandations were great. Very convenient location too, near from Grand Place, but I only give it 4 stars, because I prefer the atmosphere of the original Modeder Lambic located in Haut Saint Gilles, which has more charming vintage details (the old comics for example that you can read while sipping your beer :-)). read more

Brussels' OTHER beer mecca. If you're not into the total dive atmosphere of Delirium Cafe, then Moeder Lambic will probably be more your speed. Their beer selection is very impressive with plenty available on tap in addition to the bottle selection. It's nowhere near as big as Delirium but as a result it's quieter and you can actually have a conversation. We received this place as a recommendation from a friend stateside. We hadn't bookmarked it but stopped in for an afternoon drink and snack when we came upon it in Place Fontainas. Glad we did. We had some pate with our beers that was amazing. Some RSC Anderlecht fans were in attendance as well for the game that evening, drinking songs and all. We only had the one visit, but we'd wanted to come back a second time.
